#why can all NPCs be more like Rolan?

Yeah, Rolan absolutely gets Most Useful Non-Party Ally. He put Mage Armor on Gale when I forgot. He stayed a reasonable distance from the main melee. He thunderwaved his shitty mentor and several elementals off a balcony, killing several and softening the others up.

Thank you so much for doing my request I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to request more BG3 content, could I please request first kiss headcanons for Dammon and Rolan 💙💙
my fave npcs..... I love them both so much thank you for giving me a reason to write this. I hope you enjoy and i'm so glad you liked what I did for your previous request!!
gn!reader/tav | no tws, just pure fluff
first kiss hcs with dammon and rolan
dammon
he's so gentle. when he gets there
but.. i think he'd be a bit shy to initiate. you could be on your fourth date and he'd still worry that he's reading the situation wrong
there's a part of him that's just so anxious about messing up he doesn't want to take that step forward with you without knowing you're completely, 100% ready for it
eventually a time comes where he does feel ready for it. the way you're looking at him makes his heart pound and he just.. takes the leap
you're in his forge. it's a comfortable setting for him and where he spends most of his time.. and it's where he first laid eyes on you
in the light, he can see every little detail on your face, and you're staring at him with so much love in your eyes..
he's worried about messing up of course but when you react to it with a smile, he relaxes into your touch and lets himself go
his hand holds your cheek. his thumb caresses your skin and he kisses you like you're the most delicate thing in the world
his hands are rough and calloused from years of working with metals but that doesn't stop him from being soft with you
his other hand rests on your hip and subconsciously he pulls you just a little closer. he doesn't want to let you go just yet
your kiss is brief but it speaks for itself. it's filled with love and respect and adoration
dammon holds you so high he practically worships the ground you walk on. it's just the way he is
but in his kisses, and especially the first one he shares with you, it's clear it means so much more to him
it's not just a kiss, it's a step forward in your relationship. this is a connection he treasures and one he wants to nurture!
he just adores you really
rolan
he definitely has trouble understanding and coming to terms with his feelings for you in general
so when he realizes he wants to kiss you? it was enough when he was able to accept that he liked you, but now.. wanting to move further with you?
it's something he grapples with for awhile. not because he doesn't like you, but because he's afraid of being vulnerable
kissing is.. intimate. no matter what way you look at it, it's something you can't take back
but there is a moment. you're sitting together under the stars. it's something you wanted to do and he can't remember why.. but he can remember looking at you
you're staring up at the sky. a content smile on your face and in that moment he realizes that you're what he wanted. he wants to take your relationship to the next level
so he does
he isn't thinking when he cups your cheek in his hand. all he does is look at you. he admires your features and whispers, "can i kiss you?"
you nod, and his lips press to yours and it's like everything changes
his kiss is gentle and so is his touch
he'll pull you closer. just enough for his other hand to take yours and he knows just how much he wanted this
he's never felt this intensely about anyone else, so this moment is really special to him. you're soft with him and you return his kiss without missing a beat
it doesn't last very long. a few seconds at most, but it's a moment he knows he'll never forget. one he wouldn't ever want to forget even if he could
he won't tell you, but he cherishes this moment. and he thinks about it more often than he'd care to admit

I want to pick Zevlor off the street like a stray cat, wrap him in a blanket freshly warmed and let him cry in my arms. He deserved better. Both acts he was in all he got was hurt. First he had to get help with Kahga and the goblins so that his people wouldn’t be slaughtered when they were just trying to survive. Then his people actually got slaughtered so close to the finish line, and he’s left burdened with all of that guilt. You can see it on his face when you save him: he didn’t want to be saved. He didn’t want you to pull him out of the mindflayer pod, he wanted to be left there to rot for what he did. The absolute didn’t just tempt him, it broke him into a husk of a man.
Then we’re just jarred when he shows back up with his oaths at the end. It isn’t fair. We get to see so many characters have such cathartic arcs but zevlor is missing. We see Rolan finally getting his wizard tower, Alfira and Lakrissa making their way in the world, our companions healing and growing, but not Zevlor. He was an original character from EA we spent years with him, in new saves, smiling when he’d come on screen, and all we got was two acts of pain and anguish, then a jarring ending.
I realize that time constraints and resources are a big part but this isn’t some act 2 character. This is an original early access character. We see so much for Raphael, Rolan, Dammon, Alfira, Mol - fuck even Aradin appears! Yet nothing for Zevlor, and he’s just as important as the rest of them! He gets villanized in act 2, gets the perfect set up for at the very least an act 3 quest (if not companion) and nothing. Nadda. Zilch.
Where was our Loroaken moment? Where was our Shadowheart moment? Where was our freedom moment where we could help our beloved tiefling realize he is loved? Why must we be hurt in this way? I wish he had gotten this love during early acces and part of me kicks myself for not loudly shouting about him from every roof top until launch, but this still hurts. No one needed to shout for the others. No one had to ask for Dammon or Alfira or Mol. We just got them and that was amazing. You can’t even say it’s because he was in act 2 because all the other tieflings got content there to! Hells, we get TWO new companions and a gaggle of camp npcs in act 2&3 and you’re telling me we get nothing for Zevlor in act 3. Nothing? We couldn’t even set aside a tiny quest for him?
The only thing we did get is if we didn’t find him in act 2 and that is heartbreaking. It’s not even a better option because it’s just his lifeless corpse. It feels like tossing salt in the wound. A big fat mocking laugh. I know I shouldn’t be mad and I’m not saying I hate Larian for this, but my heart aches. The only other option for him is death! You only see him in act 3 if he’s DEAD! They’ve fixed so much stuff and that’s wonderful but no one is talking about how zevlor either disappears or just dies. Karlach is getting a fix, there’s dataminded evidence of Halsin getting more content, we get character customization mid game, people are calling for a Minthara fix, and that’s wonderful they’re listening. I just wish I could be loud enough to be heard as well.

Some ramblings on the Tieflings' appearances...
Weirdly enough, this is inspired upon by a comment on a DNDBeyond Facebook post.
There's a book in a few places in the game (most notably Zevlor's area of the Grove) that reference the ritual that Asmodeus and his warlocks did after the Spellplague, which cursed all Tieflings to appear more in his image. Prior to that, my understanding is that Tieflings more closely resembled humans. (Doric from the D&D movie is a good example.)
Many, but not all, of WotC's official artwork in the books show Tieflings with their horns beginning at the brow line, extra growth on the chin to mimic a beard, bumps around their eyes or cheek bones, etc. Many players choose to omit those features in their Tieflings' appearances in their home D&D games. Which leads me to what spurned this ramble: the post I reference showed an old Tiefling woman with obvious protrusions on her brow line and cheeks. The commenter on the post hinted that this was what "old Tieflings used to look like" before everyone decided to make them hot. (To which I say: lulz okay nerd, let people make hot Tieflings.)
Who is the ONLY Tiefling in BG3 who has obvious extra definition to the brow and cheekbones? This handsome fella...
Tumblr media
...who is the "old one." Which, admittedly, cracked me up. I'd personally argue that the ridges make him look older than the wrinkles would suggest, but that's neither here nor there.
Now, granted, the fact that the Tieflings aren't more varied in their appearances in the game makes complete sense. Larian could only use so many different facial models when they're giving a set amount to the player, and it's not worth their time to give every NPC a unique face when they could add a lot of variation using the character selection presets.
But we CAN look at the other two unique NPC Tiefling models, Rolan and Dammon:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dammon's got the more pronounced brow area, which at the very least the face model that Danis and Damays use also share. Both of them also have more pronounced cheekbones that could hint at their infernal ancestry. For me, it's been less obvious on Dammon than it is Rolan; in certain lights in the game, it VERY much looks like his protrude more than normal. I notice it less often with Dammon. Granted, in both their cases, maybe they just have really excellent bone structure, and I'm reading too much into their character models. (Reading too much into things? On TUMBLR? Nah, never happens.) Regardless, two male characters younger than Zevlor don't have as many obvious infernal features, which is an undoubtedly unintentional but still funny call back to "old Tieflings" versus "new Tieflings."
Also consider that Karlach does not share these facial protrusions that the male characters have/seem to have. (I don't think any of the female Tieflings do, and there's some commentary to be had with that, but I digress.)
Tumblr media
But who DOES get some extra infernal features in addition to the horns? Wyll. Who is not a Tiefling, but go with it.
Tumblr media
For shits and giggles, Mizora and Raphael also have smoother facial features:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, I completely understand why most of the NPCs were generic face models for practical reasons. But it is interesting they only gave Zevlor the "traditional" 4e/5e Tiefling look.
What are your thoughts? Or theories, even? Let me hear them!

These condi neg bitches being real quiet about Rolan and Emizel. Anyways I will give these guys credit with Vyncent, as much as I love him there really has been a big struggle for him to find his footing with motivation and it really wasn't helped with the fauna arc or the time him and Charlie pulled the "the heroes aren't actually good" thing that Charlie admitted he was bullshitting. If they took that more seriously it really could've added a lot to Vyncent (and William) as a character but they sorta let it go. There was also a lot of potential with him having magic that was ultimately snuffed out because it wasn't actually on his character sheet, and while I think the sword was cool it was for the most part a nearly useless thing outside of a couple of occasions.
What I will not give these guys though is Jay Ferin she's a fucking awesome character outside of grizzly tying NPCs to her. The reason why she's pushed to the side is cuz fandoms do tend to be misogynistic especially when it comes to "female character that's tied to gay ship". Anyways before episode 53 it makes sense for her to not show all her cards and allow herself to be more easily looked over because she's a fucking spy but she's still a multidimensional character during that because you can see as she starts caring for the crew. Y'all are just really shitting on condi when Charlie and Bizly both also had their riptide guys be "one dimensional" at the start of riptide they just got a kickstart by having their multidimensional break on episode 15. Hell even Dakota could fall into this especially season 1. You guys are just mean
Also like I said you guys are being really quiet about Rolan and Emizel who in my humble opinion are top tier.
Anyways I love you condi condifiction

Celebrating the Winter Holiday with Npcs
Winter approaches and the festive season is upon them. You get a little homesick watching everyone spend the Faerun version of the Holidays and decide to hold your own little festivities. The guys support you celebrating the winter holiday the way you did so back home.
Note: some stuff here includes Christmas tradition since it the only one i'm really familiar with
Tumblr media
Zevlor
Cuddling with him near the fireplace. A plate of cookies and two cups of hot cocoa nearby. Your admiring the snow falling outside the window. He's watching the light of the fire light up your appearance, wondering how he got so fortunate to be with you in this moment.
The one who really wants to learn and celebrate your holiday traditions. Helps you anyway he can in setting up any decorations or activities. Loves baking gingerbread cookies and eggnog with you. Sets some aside for the children. Tell him stories of your childhood spending Christmas. He's always fond of hearing about your life back home. Eager to learn the history of your traditions and why certain customs came about. You would be humming some holiday-theme song as you bake. He would quietly listen. Sing some of the lyrics to yourself and he'll ask about them, wanting to hear more songs. Of course you hang a bunch of mistletoe in every doorway. He's curious at first, falling into your trap wanting to ask what their for. Your answer makes him double-take as he realizes where you and him are standing. He chuckles and says you could always ask him for a kiss, but pulls you in for one, honoring the custom. He's really pleased when you keep catching him underneath one, always indulging.
Dammon
He's brought out of his work when you approach him with a cup of hot chocolate. A nice warm drink while the air remains chilly even with the heat from the forge. He takes it with a smile as you scold him for forgetting to wear a scarf outside. The drink was sweet, yet not as sweet as the feeling of you tug the soft fabric around his neck.
Somehow if you have Christmas lights, he's following you around as you hang them up, enamored with them like a kid. Careful, he might mess with the wires trying to figure out how they work. Watches them light up and turn different colors with wide eyes. He's there when you set up a tree and enjoys decorating it. Helps you make the ornaments too. Loves the result, sitting on the floor next to you watching the lights flicker on the tree. If you need a boost, helps you up to hang the star at the top. You had to shoo him out of the kitchen when he kept trying to eat the batter. Likes making gingerbread houses with you. Makes something elaborate probably and actually holds up. Chuckles at you hanging mistletoe everywhere. Really loves this custom and also hangs them everywhere. Careful, its a minefield of kisses now. You might have created a monster.
Rolan
He appreciates the romantic dinner you prepared for him at his tower. Despite all his grumbling about the holidays, its important to him his loved ones enjoy these occasions. There's a soft smile on his face watching snowflakes fall on your face, and an even softer one the next day watching you and his siblings open your presents.
Ah. Classic Scrooge over here. As more festive spirit grows, his grumpiness grows larger. Really, its the cold. He can't stand it and won't go outside without a bunch of layers on. His nose and cheeks probably gets redder, flush from the cold. Appreciates you cupping his face with your hands to warm it up. While he acts all grouchy, will encourage you to enjoy the holidays how you see fit. Just for you, he modifies a dancing lights spell to around the tree, imitating Christmas lights. Standing a bit to the side, watching with no small amount of fondness as you make a snowman with his siblings. You make a bunch of them, some were a little...disfigured. The three of you made a snowman with a large frown and named it Rolan the second. Scoffs when he learns what your doing with the mistletoe. "Nice try. You know I don't always have to indulge you?" He will. Gets more flustered the more you corner him.

Wouldn't it be cool that Larian gave us a mini adventure where your companions are some of the NPCs of the game, such as Alfira or Rolan, and that gives you the possibility to have some subtle slow romance options to interact with them?
For me it would be awesome. Not to say that I would gladly give some extra money if that meant that my Tav can have some sweet moments with the fav blacksmith.
Like, I can perfectly imagine how (since the VA of Dammon does not like the idea of a romance route, affirming that once the players can "have" him he might lose his charm and mystique) during the adventure, your character is able to have some bonding moments with the NPC you choose in order to have a more deeply connection and could aim into a beautifully strong friendship or aim into the beginning of a romantic interest. But just that.
Either friendship or the beginning of "what it could be". Getting the tension and the vibes of romance but never actually getting a kiss or a more physical option.
Just let my half-elf character have a nice "no-date" with Dammon where they spend all night long talking about their interests and at some point he tries to show her how to properly hammer or do some blacksmithing stuff by helping and correcting her posture from behind. Like in Ghost.🥲
I can totally understand why Frazer doesn't want Dammon to be a love interest, and he brings up a great point with the mystery aspect, but I would love a patch or a dlc that adds more to the NPCs.
Even if we don't get romance routes (though both Rolan and Zevlor would slot perfectly into being love interests, though I digress) I would like more options to flirt and/or chat with NPC fan favourites like the tieflings (Alfira, Cal, and Lia included) and others like Rugan. Really, I just want more content for our favourites, and having Dammon and Rolan hanging around in act 3 is nice, but I'd still like to at least be able to get my first on with them instead of just having to think it in my head lol

okay, it’s my turn to obsess over the minor details we get about background NPCs and come up with elaborate headcanons based on scant information. Rolan, Cal, & Lia have had their time in the sun—let’s talk about Doni & Rikka!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I recently saw Doni’s letter to his father in-game for the first time. if you haven’t read it, here’s the text. you can find it in the Festering Cove in the Underdark!
Dad,
Sorry I stopped writing - we ran out of paper on the road. I got this from the druids. Maybe that’s why they’re so mad at us.
I hope this can find you. Zevlor says you got lost and that our old house is gone, but I read a book that says all rivers find their way into the Styx.
When you get it, you can write me back in Baldur’s Gate. Or maybe come visit?
I’ll write again when I can get more paper.
- Doni
while I was looking for this note on the wiki, I also noticed that Doni is listed as the ward of Rikka, one of the tieflings who is guarding the gate at the Emerald Grove. I can’t find the source for that exact bit of information, but I did find this description of a quest line I’ve never gotten in-game before.
Find Doni only occurs if the leaders of the goblin camp are left alive and learn the location of the Druid Grove. In this instance, the goblins come to raid the Grove and the tieflings and druids prepare for the assault. As part of this, Rikka is wandering around the Hollow searching for Doni, who has gone missing. Rikka has instructed all of the tiefling children to hide in their hideout and she will lock the hatch so that no harm comes to them. She can't do that until Doni is found.
I couldn’t find the actual dialogue that accompanies this quest, so maybe Rikka specifies in this interaction that she is Doni’s guardian! either way, it seems like she takes responsibility for all of the children in this scenario, as well as in the alternate scenario where you kill the goblin leaders—when the tieflings are preparing to leave the Grove, she can be seen giving the children instructions on how to stay safe on the road.
so here’s what we know—
Doni lost his dad back in Elturel, but he either seems to not know or not accept that his father is likely dead.
several of the other tiefling children seem to be orphans or not have parental figures present, and Rikka appears to take on a caretaking or protective role towards these kids, particularly in the Grove.
there must be dialogue somewhere revealing that Rikka has taken on caring for Doni full-time since they began traveling together.
and here are some questions I still have—
who is Mol’s guardian? Mattis and Silfy’s? Mirkon’s? it’s interesting that Doni is the only tiefling kid without parents present that seems to have a guardian-ward relationship with one of the adults in the group of refugees. it leads me to wonder if Rikka knew his family before their exile, or if perhaps she simply grew more attached to him than the other children.
what becomes of Rikka and Doni after they leave the Grove? in my only full playthrough so far, I neglected to convince Rolan, Cal, and Lia to stick around, so most of the tieflings died :( I’m wondering if these two make it in the scenario where you do convince the siblings to stay!
my budding headcanon about why Rikka has taken on Doni as her ward is that he seems to be having a harder time dealing with the collective trauma the refugees have undergone than the other children. people have debated whether his lack of talking & eye contact points to the possibility of him being autistic, or whether it’s more of a trauma response—I think it could be both.
he was perhaps always a closed-off child who struggled with social mores and sensory issues, and the chaos of the past few months has only made it more difficult for him. Rikka, an empathetic character who is seen to care for all the children, might have felt a particular responsibility towards caring for him and helping him feel safer.
most of the tiefling kids who do make it to Act 3 seem to be doing their own thing, no adult supervision necessary—Mol running with the Guild, Silfy selling papers, Mattis continuing to run his little shop. it’s lovely, seeing the freedom they have, but it is still a little heartbreaking to see them have to work for their livings, to imagine the sort of hardship they’ll no doubt endure as orphaned refugees in the city.
so perhaps it’s a bit optimistic of me, but I do like to imagine that Doni and Rikka survive and make it to the Gate together. Rikka will need to find work, and Doni may still spend time with the other kids, helping Silfy with sales or hanging out with Mol when she’s not lurking in the sewers. but ultimately, he has a home with Rikka, and as he deals with the grief and trauma of displacement and losing his father, she is able to give him an opportunity that none of the other tiefling children seem to have—to just be a kid.
I would love to hear any thoughts, headcanons, or more canon information about these two that I may have missed! I hope you enjoyed reading this and sharing a glimmer of hope with me :’)

Moar Asheera image 👉👈?
🥺
Well, I decided to start a very fast Asheera run through with some mods. Basically "play this game in the easiest possible way so I can focus entirely on Asheera's feelings about the companions' reactions and motivations" for some writerly inspiration. Plus, I've been feeling the need to re-experience everything and get some Act 1 and 2 screenshots/saves.
I know there's some nasty quest item related bugs right now, but I completely avoided any sort of bugs in my first playthrough so fingers crossed!
Anyways, where was I? Ah yes.
Nautiloid business. Freed Shadowheart. Woke up on the beach, etc.
I'm trying to focus on roleplaying Asheera here, and she was definitely tempted to look at the artefact but this Shadowheart - what a strange name, Asheera would think - knew a fair bit on the nautiloid. So, awake she goes. They naturally decided to group up for safety in numbers. Shadowheart's cagey about a lot of things, but now's not the time to think about it.
Tumblr media
Next, the pair had a run-in with a few intellect devourers, but they were no problem. A few sword slashes and mace hits and they were good as dead.
Also, this is where I mention that I cheated in a bunch of gear because I really don't want to interact with anything but the companions, a few NPCs (like Rolan) and the main quest. I plan on doing this run in a few big sessions over a weekend or two!
When it comes to Gale, Asheera's first impression is that he's a strange, strange man. She thinks he needs to just get to the point sometimes. She of course said #2 here. (Again, pay no mind to the get up lmao)
But a wizard is a fine companion on a dangerous journey, even if he's a bit odd. Then again, aren't all wizards?
Tumblr media
Up next, they had a little run-in with the warrior from the nautiloid. How curious, she's all stranded up in this cage? It's no matter, Asheera convinces a pair of tieflings to go away so that she can talk to this woman again. She's even more knowledgeable about the mind flayers than Gale or Shadowheart it seems.
Asheera is naturally convinced of a cure and committed to finding one, which immediately makes Lae'zel warm up to her. Even just a little. (Side note: I hate Lae'zel's new dismissal to camp dialogue. Why is she soft right away?)
Side note pt. deux: Shadowheart is starting to regret trusting Asheera after this whole... let Lae'zel out thing. She says she trusts Asheera, but I think at this point she's starting to reassess things.
Tumblr media
The group follows the tieflings' directions to the camp they called out only to find a band of adventurers being attacked by goblinoids. They call out a war cry to "the Absolute," whatever that is. After they're dispatched, the party meets another friendly tadpoled face.
Wyll is familiar to Asheera because of his moniker, and it's nice to put a face to the name. It's also a bit odd to find out someone she considers a real Hero is a fair bit younger than her. He's teaching a young tiefling how to distract someone in a fight long enough to run away, and Asheera thinks that it's A) super wholesome and B) clever to focus on the child's ability to confuse and confound if things ever got to be that bad.
Also, Asheera is beginning to see all these refugees and after talking to them she realizes they're likely from Elturel. As a Baldurian, she should be a bit frazzled by them. Some part of her probably is a bit annoyed to be helping people from what is essentially the rival school equivalent. But seeing children potentially in danger tempers that a fair bit.
Tumblr media
Side note: Asheera laughed at this line from Shadowheart (there's a couple very fun, jokey lines Asheera says this early on for sure)
Tumblr media
Asheera decides it's time to talk to the leaders of this place, and she gets wrapped in a whole thing with some girl named Arabella (side note: seeing her with her parents again legit almost made me cry)
I think this is a great time to talk about the fact that I'm using an Approval Dialogue mod. I want to see options when they conflict with companions' approvals and what the weighting implies. This won't always work since I'm going with my "canon" paths for everyone again, but it's something that I want to be able to see and think about from time to time.
This one where you talk to Kagha comes up after you can persuade her to let Arabella go (+1 to a bunch of approvals, but for right now I want to focus on Shadowheart for obvious reasons)
Tumblr media
She has nothing to say about 1 or 3, but she gets a huge boost from 2. That's definitely the Sharran in her speaking through, but I do think part of it is her current mindset of pure survival instinct. If it was strictly "I'm a big evil Sharran" rather than whatever fucked up cocktail her brain is at this moment in the game, I think she would have some disapproval for 1 and IMO she might even enjoy 3 a little bit. But she doesn't necessarily mind 1 in particular, which is what Asheera says. It's a bit surprising to Asheera that Shadowheart doesn't have a comment on that. Worth noting for our half-orc.
She gets her hand pain here for the first time, but when Asheera asks about it the topic is stonewalled pretty quickly. Same with Shadowheart recognizing Dark Justiciars in one of the druids' wall murals. Fair enough. Asheera's a fair bit suspicious at this point, but they've got a unified goal and a paladin can cross that bridge when she comes to it.
Oh, and I got the wolf saving throw here which I didn't expect her to fail! It was fun having Asheera and Shadowheart talk about that so quickly. They're still a bit wary of each other, it's after all only the first (second?) day that they've even known each other. I think that Asheera would hear someone ask for comfort in a deep-seated fear and she would offer the simplest thing she can: protection. Shadowheart likely just sees it as a simple kindness given the way she words this, but I think it's very telling that just being... barely nice to her warms her to Asheera so quickly.
This is where Shadowheart's internal calculus shifts back to trusting Asheera again. Maybe she's a bit foolish about trusting Lae'zel, but there are worse people to have as a de facto leader in a situation like this.
(Also, I caught Asheera blinking lmao)
Tumblr media
Summed up, Asheera's thoughts so far...
If this ceremorphosis is so deadly and swift, why are they all still alive?
The refugees need her help, and she's going to drag half this party into helping them if she has to.
Helping Elturians is not what she expected to be doing, but she also didn't expect to have a tadpole crammed in her brain so. You know.
Shadowheart is curious, secretive, and more than a little untrustworthy. She also approves of helping out the refugee children and seems a bit surprised to be offered basic kindness. So there's definitely more to her than the cold exterior shows, but Asheera can't quite figure it out yet. It could all be a façade. Asheera also has a thing for elven women with a little bite and wit.
Gale is an odd man with useful talents. He's been all right so far, being it's barely been a few hours, but of course a wizard would know to hide any ulterior motives right away. Asheera's suspicious of him and his kind demeanor.
Wyll and Lae'zel are the two that Asheera finds refreshing because it's clear what they want. Wyll wants to kill some devil, and Lae'zel is blunt about curing the parasite and going back to her people. They're easier than Gale and Shadowheart, even if Asheera is very lukewarm about Lae'zel. Wyll's a legend though, so she's just hoping this isn't a "don't meet your heroes" type situation.
Anyways, it was late when I decided to do this and I have other plans for the night. Next time, meeting Karlach and vampire boy and who knows what other fun moments! Toodles.

HI. mercury: 2, 16, 7 for all the categories (like 2 for general, 16 for story specific, you get it), bethan: 10, 7, 8, and venali: 11, 1, 5
hiiiiii hii hi hi hi sarah
putting these under a break bc i'm writing a lot and there will be bg3 spoilers for basically all of it.
Mercury 2. Do other companions have special comments or reactions upon recruiting your Tav? - I imagine Mercury would be found in a lone standoff against some intellect devourers near the crash site so her first impression is someone who can (at the VERY least) fight good, if a bit erratically. I think Lae'zel and Shadowheart may be like "Maybe it's better to have her on our side." and more sensible characters like Wyll or Gale would be like "... She hits hard? And not us, so that's good?" 16. How do they react to the Dark Urge killing Alfira - That happened pretty early in my Durge run and Mercury needs to be fixed so Depending on if anything has happened to start making her nice, she'll be pretty apathetic about it. Like "oh man. well don't kill me next, huh? lol" 7. What questions can Zethino ask the PC about Tav in the Love Test? - What is Mercury's favorite weapon? (Answer: Alchemist's Fire. Less specific? Bombs.) - How would Mercury spend a quiet evening? (Answer: Doing anything to make it less quiet) - What is Mercury's greatest asset? (Answer: Her (at times unearned) confidence. Will also accept "her big muscles")
Bethan (Durge) 10. Are there any unique NPCs associated with your Tav that can show up during the course of the game? - I do not know! Durge seems to have a canon backstory you have to uncover as you play but if there's a bit of wiggle room with it, I like to think they had a partner and fellow follower of Helm who trained with them. In the case of them showing up, they would be disgusted with Bethan, and Bethan would only have an inkling as to why. (It's the murder.) 7. What can they be found doing at the tiefling/goblin party? - Prowling. Not in a purposefully menacing way, they just don't do parties. 8. If they’re poly, do they have a reaction to the PC engaging in a relationship with Halsin? - Not only do they approve, they want in on it too.
Venali (Current LOML) 11. Are there any moments in the game that trigger unique dialogue for your character? - Defeating Lorroakan will trigger a conversation about how she once lied her way into his tower to browse his personal library. He was offputting the entire time, but she got the information she was after that led her to further understanding of her wild magic. She's happy to see him gone, however. Will be happy for Rolan if he's around to take over. 1. How does your Tav advise the player character when it comes to the Dream Visitor? - Tread with caution but listen to everything they have to say. Like with Raphael, there is truth hidden in their words. You just need to play along and listen for something you can use to your advantage. 5. Does the romance have different branching paths, or just one route to take? - Really only one way to resolve her quest and that's to help her discover the source and nature of her wild magic. When it comes to romance, she's in it for the long haul. All she wants is to make sure she's not a conduit for something evil and then settle down someplace safe and far away from everything that happened with the tadpoles. Preferably somewhere close to the people she cares about.

Tav character building questions with Clover!!
1: Where in the Faerûn is your Tav from?
Honestly I hadn't really thought about the exact location lol she's from a woodland farm so... somewhere wooded?
2: What is your character's alignment?
I honestly never bothered to assign an alignment to her, under the assumption that it might well change as the story progresses. I do think she is Good aligned, but probably Neutral Good?
3: Race and subclass?
Wood Half elf and Beastmaster Ranger!
4: If your Tav was a companion, where would they be found?
Honestly probably near animals and or children, similar to Wyll. So probably in the Grove.
5: Dark Urge or no?
She's not. But I do include a default Durge as a companion for my fic lol.
6: What companion are you platonically close with?
She really wants to be best friends with Shadowheart, and eventually gets her wish, but by that point Karlach has moved up that ladder.
7: Romantically close with?
In game? Astarion. And Halsin. In my fic? All of them. We poly-ing this party!! Yes, even Minthara and Durge.
8: Who are they suspicious of?
At the beginning? Lae'zel. Which goes to show her bad judgement, as Lae'zel is one of the most honest members!
9: Is your Tav from Baldur's Gate? Why are they travelling there?
She is not! She's never been to a big city before. She's honestly going there because other people suggest going there and hoping she finds her brother at some point, or hoping to find some information.
10: Are they proficient in playing any instruments?
No! Her brother was a bard before he left and tried to teach her but she never caught on. She loves music though (in game she probably gets proficiency from Alfira but in my fic it's actually Durge that gets that honour) her brother played Dulcimer, Lyre, flute and hurdy-gurdy, so she likely would have learned one of those.
11: Weapon of choice?
Bow and arrow! She prefers a longbow to short.
12: What is their orientation?
Sexual/romantic orientation I assume? She's bi. 💙 💜 🩷
13: What are their thoughts on killing? Is it a necessary evil or do they enjoy it?
She tries to avoid it if possible, but sees it as a necessary evil sometimes...and then there are some people that she thinks "Need to die" (Cazador, for example lol)
14: What hobbies does your Tav have?
She grew up on a homestead. She loves the work there. I think the one thing she enjoys most would be cooking, baking and brewing she still lets Gale cook at camp, but she helps him when she can. She brings home brewed Mead to the reunion party.
15: What NPC's do they like? Which one's do they dislike?
I'm sorry I'm basic 😔 she likes Rolan. But in fairness she also likes Kar'niss if I can justify saving him in my fic once I get there, he's safe. She dislikes people who are ungrateful or cruel. Wulbren Bongle is both.
16: Do they have a favorite creature in the Faerûn?
She likes all creatures 😂 she's an animal lover through and through. I do have an image of her adopting pretty much any animal she can (and a few she can't in game 👀) but I've always imagined that if she met one she would ADORE a Flumph and befriend them immediately. She also has a stuffed Hollyphant at home.
17: Do they enjoy life as an adventurer?
She does! She loves seeing new places, meeting people and creatures, she gets a bit homesick sometimes but she'd be lying if she said she didn't want to adventure anymore (except in the Shadowlands where she becomes depressed and wishes she could go home, sometimes wishing she never left...)
18: What would your Tav be doing if they weren't kidnapped on the Nautiloid?
Honestly? She got kidnapped right after leaving home to find her brother, so she'd still be doing that! And she still is!
19: How do you think they'll meet they're end?
I'd LIKE for her to die a peaceful death surrounded by loved ones, but more realistically she's going to die from some sort of accident. She's not clumsy or anything, but once she retires she's probably left with those as her most likely death.
She does canonly die to Astarion during Bite Night though so...
20: Would they destroy the elder brain or control it?
Destroy. No one should have this power.
21: What is your Tav's favorite spell?
In game? Speak with animals lol Hunter's Mark is probably her most used spell in combat though. She is also beyond fascinated with prestidigitation (which isn't in the game but you cannot tell me Gale isn't using this literally all the time)
22: What languages is your character fluent in?
Common, Elvish she doesn't really know any languages but what were spoken at home.
23: What do they do after the absolute crisis?
Honestly? Go home. She does find her brother according to my fic (considered her True Canon) learns the truth...and she misses her mom. She mostly retires from being a ranger, only using her skills occasionally. She has no issues travelling to the homes of the others, travelling on foot, horseback or cart, solving any issues that come up on the way to Baldur's Gate or Waterdeep, but she doesn't see herself as a ranger anymore. (Though that will NOT stop her from using magic lol)
24: Does your character believe in the afterlife?
She does! That's what happens when your mother is a faithful cleric!
25: What arcana major best represents your Tav?
There are several that suit her. But I think the one that suits her overall is The Star (though it is important to know that she is very much The Fool in Act 1)
26: What animal best represents your Tav?
Honestly if given a metric fuckton of time I could probably find a better answer but I'm going with: Spaniel. Friendly, loving, cheerful and outdoorsy.
27: What was their life like before the events of BG3?
Honestly? Sheltered. She lived with her Chauntea cleric mother on a homestead. Her father left when she was still little and her brother successfully hid anything unsavoury in their home from her. But she would genuinely describe it as warm and loving
28: Is your character the de facto leader of the party? Or do they consider someone else to be the leader?
She is only the leader because she's the best mediator. If you asked her who the best leader is, she'd probably suggest Gale, or maybe Karlach, though Wyll is only excluded because he was going to kill Karlach. She tries to find balance between everyone's ideas, but won't compromise her beliefs.
29: Does your Tav want to utilize the tadpole powers or not?
No. She doesn't like the idea of controlling others and so on. But at the same time, she doesn't mind her companions doing so if they want. (And she does engage her tadpole occasionally for things like communication) Minthara does end up partial Illithid while Clover watches over her.
30: What's your favorite thing about your Tav?
Honestly? I love her sweet fun personality. She can be naive, but she always is willing to offer kindness. So many people in BG3 need kindness. I even love her descent into depression, because she's so empathic that being in a seemingly hopeless situation genuinely affects her, even when she's faking a smile and trying to help everyone else. I also have made the executive decision that she is tiny and squishy and she wears her hair in braids (though I've been imagining situations where she might end up cutting her hair short) and I just...love that for her!

BG3: The Party + random notes
And the big conclusion to the big fight: a big old party.
(dark urge spoilers)
Time to party with all my friends! There was a tiefling there I didn’t recognize, and apparently it’s because if any of the tieflings scheduled to be at the party die for any reason, there is a new back-up NPC there to take their place. So she was there instead of Alfira. 🥲🥲🥲 Sigh. I read online that if you’re playing durge, Alfira isn’t supposed to be replaced, and instead Lakrissa will mention she’s worried about Alfira… I would have preferred that (cause no one mentioned Alfira going missing at all) and I’m not sure why that didn’t trigger in my game.
Found a suspicious lady sneaking around in the grass???? She teleported away???? Doesn’t seem to be a huge amount of info about her online???? Guess I will find out more later????
What a cute party, everyone having a good time: Ikaron loosening up and having a pint, the three siblings still arguing, Bex totally smashed and trying to convince Danis to go into the bushes with her. I feel like if people don’t even like the cute tiefling kids, then everyone must just hate Rolan, who is always super annoying? I love Rolan though, silly idiot. I really wish I could follow these guys all to Baldur’s Gate and make sure they get there safely. Unfortunately it seems like I’m going to find some of them dead on the road as the game goes on no matter what I do, and… well. I’m not going to think about that right now - just going to enjoy the cute party.
It seems I’ve done something that’s glitched Gale or made him mad at me. All the companions propositioned me at the party, even ones I have politely rejected before, but not Gale. I had no dialogue options with him at all, he only told me to go and enjoy the party. Guess I really broke the guy’s heart when I told him that I only wanted to be friends. Sorry man. (another funny bug - Wyll is supposed to be off away from the party standing by the water. But sometimes he won’t be by the water, he’ll be at his regular tent, but he’ll still have the “I hoped you wouldn’t notice I had left” dialogue)
Apparently in early access, Zevlor lights magic lights in the sky, one for every life you saved today. Dang. Why did that get cut? That sounds beautiful? Man I just love Zevlor. Poor old guy can’t relax even at the party. (Honestly, if he was a romance option I think I’d be chasing him… sorry Astarion. It’s the shame, it’s the shame. I smell it like I’m a shark and it’s blood in the water. Give me a sad old character with shame and I’m there) I’m sure everything will go great for him from here on out and nothing sad will happen at all!!! :) :) :) :)
After the party scene, I got the second Guardian dream. DESPITE what you will read online, where the information seems to all be either guessing (incorrectly) or else based on the early access, I can confidently confirm that the second guardian dream is triggered after you free Halsin and talk to him about your tadpole. …and then my friend also playing this game, who has a really bad memory, swears up and down that they had a third guardian dream while they were at the goblin camp, but can’t remember what triggered it or what it was about. I could barely find info online about the second dream at all, I have no hope of finding anything about the third, but it seems so far that the dreams are triggered by concrete game events.
I might have mentioned this before but I am *REALLY* loving the little details in the books I find. I know there’s so many of them so there’s a tendency to skim them, but if you can force yourself to actually read each one, some of them are very funny or very interesting, and some include clever little easter egg tidbits. I LOVE how in conversations with Halsin, he mentions he wishes he had some books to read, and you can say that you keep finding a million books. I am collecting every single book I find and keeping them all in the chest I stole from Kagha, hehe.
Lastly, in my incidental looking up of things, I continue to see the most rancid takes and people complaining about the weirdest things. Like the fragile straight men crying that they need a filter in the game to protect them from male characters hitting on them. Or people complaining that the game is all just pointless combat, because these people are picking the most aggressive dialogue options then wondering why every NPC is aggressive. Or people saying you can’t blame the druids for being protective of their grove - yeah right, so protective they won’t even lift a finger to defend it from an invading goblin army, so protective they can’t even crack open their door to let in one single lost and scared child. On top of everything else they did that pissed me off.
The latest bizarre thing I read is complaining about how on a durge run, Alfira’s death shouldn’t be mandatory, or how the mandatory durge kills shouldn’t break your oaths if you’re a paladin.
Like. Guys, why are you even playing a durge run if you don’t like the durge story? This game has a narrative, it isn’t just a collection of “x action causes you to receive y effect.” The point of Alfira’s death is that it’s supposed to be senseless and devastating. If you are playing a good paladin, it absolutely SHOULD break your oaths and that should be something you have to deal with. That…. That conflict is supposed to be the entire bloody point of playing a resisting durge character. It’s what makes the story so interesting and gripping. If this stuff was optional it wouldn’t be as devastating. If you don’t like it, you can 100% play a different character. Why on earth play durge if you don’t like the durge story??? The game warns you at character creation that there will be consequences. Why… why would you complain when you run into those consequences?... I don’t get it.
Next up: just tying up all the loose ends before I am ready to explore the underdark. Gotta fight that gnoll nest, gotta do Ethel’s hut, gotta clear out the goblins leftover in the camp. SO looking forward to the underdark area.

Video Game Questionate
Tagged by @joufancyhuh
Tagging: @sunnydae and @nym7, if you want to play.
You’ll discover real quick here that I have not played many games. I like what I like XD
-Games-
First game you ever played: Pirates of the Caribbean online? I burned through the free version in a couple days and then my friend bought me Sid Meier’s Pirates.
Favorite game: Either ME2 or ME3. I just love how the second upends the optimism of the first game and shows you the dark underbelly of the galaxy. And I always love me a good lazarus story. And the raw emotion of the world ending in 3. And how it ties together so many threads of previous games (though sometimes it gets a little weird.)
Game you hated at first but now love: Can I say ME1? It was a steep learning curve getting through that game the first time. I nearly rage quit SO many times fighting that Krogan battlemaster on Therum.
Game you used to love but now hate: I spend a lot of time in Skyrim. Hundreds of hours. But I don’t see myself going back. No matter how many times it gets remastered/rereleased.
Game with the best group/companion(s): ME2. They sound like the literal worst of the galaxy, but then you get to know them all and realize they must be protected at all costs. God, even Zaeed won me over in the end.
A game with your favorite ending: ME3, destroy ending specifically. There’s something about Shepard shooting a wannabe god with a pistol. The anger on their face. Their resolve. The ensuing explosion. Everything that happens after I would have written differently, though, tbh.
A game with the WORST ending: ....this might be an unpopular opinion, but I really hate how DA2 ends. It kind of feels like the main events of that game happen no matter what you do? I was kind of hoping to see a less violent side to the mages, especially since they seem queer coded to me. It feels like Bioware was trying too hard to justify the Chantry’s behavior. (Yes I’m aware that it sounds like Anders wrote this. xD)
Best character customization?: Of the one’s I’ve played? Mass Effect Andromeda. Though I feel like Femryder has better options than Maleryder.
-Hero and Companions-
Your favorite playable character:  Shepard << hands down. Though being gay in Ancient Greece as Kassandra was a ton of fun too.
The funniest playable character: Hawke
Your favorite companion(s): (in no particular order) Kaidan, Peebee, Aria (it was just a DLC, but STILL), James Vega, Grunt, Jack, Anders, Isabella, Zevran, Merill, Morrigan, Ikarous, Legion
Companions you could live without: Oghren.  Cora Harper. Liam Kosta. Wynne. Liara T’Soni. Leliana.
-Relationships-
Favorite game friendship(s): Vega & Cortez, Tali and Legion (as late as it was), Joker & EDI (hey it was total enemies -> friends -> lovers over the course of the game), Merill & Isabella, Hawke & Varric, Shepard & Joker
Favorite companion banter:  “You would be one to like grizzly bears, Mr. Vega!” “Heh, heh...huh?”
A relationship you loved but went bad: Alistair/Warden, Femshep/Vega (in game only. I don’t mind the fix it fics)
A relationship you weren’t sure of but loved: Zevran/Warden
A character you wish you COULD romance: *deep breath*  Sloane Kelly. Jeff “Joker” Moreau, Kasumi Goto. Miranda Lawson (as Femshep). Ashley Williams (as Femshep). Jack (as Femshep), Aria T’loak (actual romance please), Morrigan (as a female Warden), Tali (as Femshep), Gianna Parasini. Honorable (or dishonorable??) mention to Brynjolf of Skryim Thieves Guild.
A minor character you wish could be a companion:  I really can’t think of any? Unless we’re counting Clone Shep. :P Oo! Nyreen Kandros.
-Fun-
Shoutout to a random NPC: That Salarian construction worker you find on his break during the Citadel DLC. May I have that much chill when meeting Commander Shepard. Rolan Quarn.
A game you love watching playthroughs for and want to play: None. I hate watching playthroughs and only do it when I need dialogue for a specific scene. ^^This!
Love watching playthroughs but won’t ever play: see above <-
Online gaming or solo?: I may have got my start in online gaming, but I prefer solo. The only exception seems to be playing Among Us with friends.
Why do you play video games?: To be honest, I started playing games regularly because the hormone regulator I take (spironolactone) makes me kind of light headed sometimes. And when I first started taking it, my dermatologist gave me a much stronger dose than I needed. I was basically useless for two hours a day. I take a more reasonable dose now, but the habit remains. Eat lunch, take meds, and play games for two hours when I can. Now it’s more of a self-care thing. I find video games help me cope with PTSD. Combat situations that I can beat without too much challenge relieves that fight instinct my reptile brain is always trying to activate. Puzzle games like sudoku and mahjong (the matching game, not so much the original strategy game) help me with freeze responses.
