10 minutes of anime boy whump: ‘nanase riku’ edition

a compilation featuring one of my most favorite whumpees... since there is a limit on video length on this site, I tried to include my most favorite moments so far, but I’ll include episodes that weren’t featured that I liked regardless down below uwu

SEASON ONE:

*episode 1.2

is seen panting hard after playing a game of basketball, sogo shows concern for him and asks him once again later if he is okay

*episode 4

is coughing numerous times from being nervous/anxious about having to watch tenn perform, the others become concerned for him, is tearing up at the end of the episode

0:00-2:33 - episode 5

pushed himself to perform in the rain despite his health, collapses backstage afterward from an attack, wakes up in a hospital (never disclosed what exactly he has, but it’s just assumed that it’s asthma or some other respiratory disorder)

2:34-3:28 - episode 8

inhaler is broken and starts to show sign of trouble breathing right before they are supposed to perform 

*episode 11

planned to confront tenn at the front of his door and talk about how he abandoned his family, but ended up at the wrong room and accidentally vented it all to gaku instead (who didn’t know anything about tenn’s/riku’s history)

SEASON TWO: “SECOND BEAT”

👑 3:29-4:52 - episode 2

panting hard backstage after performing and tries to force himself to do an encore for the fans, harsh coughing and refuses to take nebulizer, is restrained and is forced to take the nebulizer despite pleading to the others to let him continue performing

4:53-7:00 - episode 3

is still coughing (it is mentioned that he is gonna spend the night at the hospital instead of going to the dorms with the others, but that is not actually shown in the episode itself), recovering at the dorms (not shown in this video), gets called out by tenn for his “terrible” performance, starts breathing heavily, cannot continue the performance and tenn ends up taking his place, gets very depressed and sounds like he’s going to cry

7:01-8:07 - episode 5

riku and tenn get into an argument, riku angst galore, starts coughing and breathing hard (having an attack) mid conversation

8:08-8:47 - episode 6

reads comments on social media talking about how iori should replace riku permanently as the center of the group, starts panicking and breathing hard/coughing

note: until episode 11, there’s small snip-its of riku being sad or lost in thought because of iori having to take his place because of his health and since then, their sales have increased for their latest song, so yea... riku is very depressed about the fans liking iori more than riku as the center

SEASON THREE: “THIRD BEAT PT1”

8:48-9:58 - episode 2

men wearing heavy cologne bump into riku and he starts to have an attack, touma carries him on his back and takes him somewhere where he can take his medicine

I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH, BUT NANASE RIKU IS TRULY AN S-TIER WHUMPEE, LIKE- AHHHHHHH

there’s some more angst and whump waiting for riku in part 2 of season 3 (whenever it comes out) if my memory is correct, but I’m just gonna have to wait and see because I do know certain moments that occurred that got me screaming for his red-headed precious bean, but I don’t remember if that was in part 3 or part 4 of the game, oh well.

honestly cannot wait for season 4, because I know for certain that this kid is gonna be in northern europe, and that cold, dry air made it almost impossible for ya boi to walk outside and not have everyone be so concerned for him for like 10 minutes.

overall, I’m happy that I have these clips from the compilation stored on my flash drive lol

0:00-1:34 - episode 11 (episode time stamp start: 7:07 until 8:09 and 11:06 until 11:37)

eichi faints after pushing himself too hard and is taken to infirmary, tears up from the fear of dying from his illness

1:35-3:22 - episode 15 (episode time stamp start: 20:09 until the end of the episode)

hibiki is concerned about eichi catching a cold, eichi almost faints and some eichi angst as he vents about being ill and struggling to catch up to the others, falls asleep on hibiki’s shoulder

3:23-5:49 - episode 22 (episode time stamp start: 0:09 until 2:14 and 5:53 until 6:12)

eichi is coughing and can’t really breathe while he’s in the hospital, feels like he’s really going to die but hibiki (his guardian angel at this point lol) rescues him from his room, more eichi coughing but acts like it’s nothing, eichi is seen panting hard and exhausted

so it seems that I have found another singer who was ill since birth but still doesn’t give up on what they want to do besides nanase riku, nice 👍 I wanted to wait till after the semester is over to start posting again, but I couldn’t help it with these whump episodes I found a couple of days ago, oops

on another note, I’m starting to ship hibiki and eichi cause during eichi’s whump moments, hibiki seems to always be there for him, he really is his guardian angel lol they’re so cute uwu if I ever end up watching the whole show or play the game, it’ll probably be because of these eichi/hibiki moments uwu

nagisa gets stabbed from behind

0:28-4:55 - episode 12 (episode time stamp start: 0:00 and continues throughout the rest of the episode)

nagisa is tied up and in pain, beaten up (numerous times throughout the episode) by his brother, reopens his wound and is bleeding through his bandage, is duct taped to a seat and is sent off into space to collide with an asteroid

note: I put “and continues throughout the rest of the episode” for this time stamp because we also get to see the others try to figure out where nagisa was taken to and plan out a whole rescue mission to get him back.... however, they were too late when they arrived and nagisa is sent out into space

4:56-6:14 - episode 13 (episode time stamp start: 12:09 and continues until 16:56)

nagisa is rescued (found unconscious)

I honestly want to watch the show in its entirety now even though I’m not too big of a fan of space/science fiction anime... I don’t mind the fact that I just spoiled myself either lol, it is what it is

I guess you can call this one of those cases where I came for the whump but I stayed for the plot

**if you listen closely with headphones, you can actually hear the moment when glenn stops breathing although it is faint in the background

I tend to go back and watch these episodes every now and then, but damn, I really need a second season for this show ( ╥ω╥ ) there a few more moments here in there that I wanted to add, but ehhh, this list would do for now owo

also, istg, fibel’s scream from episode 3 & 9 are the most realistic “shocked” screams I have ever heard in anime in a long time

qwenthur is pushed off the cliff (saved) and goes unconscious when he reaches the bottom 

00:53-1:46 - episode 5 (episode time stamp start: 16:50)

a large wave is created from explosion, qwenthur drowns from the wave collapsing onto him

1:47-2:32 - episode 8 (episode time stamp start: 13:35 & 14:53)

qwenthur is caught in a building explosion, bleeding from his head and has a metal shard impaled into his thigh, he can’t move

havia also gets caught in an explosion near him and is bleeding from his head and arm

2:33-3:27 - episode 11 (episode time stamp start: 07:15)

their base zone gets bombed and qwenthur is found unconscious afterwards, he can’t move on his own because he has a sprained ankle note: this continues onto episode 12 where he still can’t really move on his own, and at one point, at the episode’s climax he is in a very dangerous area and gets spotted by the enemy (nothing much really happens to him beyond that)

3:28-3:50 - episode 14 (episode time stamp start: 16:47)

qwenthur is kicked in the face, shot right in the shoulder and yells in pain note: I find it kind of funny how the enemy tells qwenthur to stop yelling because he only grazed him but if you see the rest of the scene (not shown in this video), you will notice that NO, THE GUY LITERALLY SHOT HIM RIGHT ON THE JOINT OF HIS SHOULDER, OUCH!

3:51-4:28 - episode 16 (episode time stamp start: 05:10 and continues for the rest of the episode)

qwenthur gets slammed against a wall and this keeps on happening throughout the episode to a point where he is bleeding from his head and mouth, gets punched repeatedly until the girl’s (her name is: ohoho) knuckles have blood on them

4:29-5:00 - episode 18 (episode time stamp start: 13:54 & 21:39)

qwenthur is slammed against a rock wall | head is getting crushed by metal arms

5:01-5:43 - episode 22 (episode time stamp start: 06:23)

qwenthur is caught in an explosion that he created in an attempt to spread the poisonous gas away from his team

👑 5:44-8:42 - episode 24 (episode time stamp start: 00:00 and continues until around the 15 minute mark)

qwenthur and havia are caught in multiple explosions causing their jeep to flip over numerous times and explode, they are both found unconscious and heavily injured (especially qwenthur) and they are both taken for treatment, qwenthur has to go through emergency surgery and his heart stops beating at some point and the medical team had to use the defibrillator to get him back, he wakes up in bed, tries to sit up but is in pain (this happens twice) and barely manages to get up and walk on his own

the last one is honestly my favorite one from the list, like, OH MY GOODNESS, I love me some hospital/infirmary whump, and let me remind you that the whole thing in that episode LASTS AROUND 15 MINUTES... just... chef’s kiss

whump aside, I gotta say, I do love the bromance between qwenthur and havia uwu
