Hello, I'm M! I'm an Indonesian bisexual woman in my late 20s and I'm the Chief of Emergency Medicine in the ER Fic and Fandom Discord server. It's a fun and inclusive space run by six queer women who met through the ER fandom - for all things ER and for everyone in the community.

What drew you to being a part of the server? Zoë came up with the idea of a Discord server for ER fanfic writers last year, and I was immediately sold on the concept of a space where fic writers could discuss writing stuff including different AUs and headcanons. Over time the server has evolved into a space for all things ER where people can share other types of content (fanart, gifs, memes etc) and talk about various aspects of the show and the fandom in general. I enjoy having good discussions with other ER fans, and while our favourite characters/ships/headcanons may differ we always discuss things in a civil (and often humorous) manner without attacking those with different opinions. In addition, as someone whose background is grossly under-represented in (Western) media I love being able to offer different perspectives on things related to the show like medicine, education, and healthcare to people who may not be constantly exposed to them outside the server.

Who is your favourite ER character? Kerry Weaver - no doubt. LGBTQ representation in Western media has grown so much since her groundbreaking storyline on the show, yet she remains the only queer TV character I can fully relate to. She's a queen, what can I say?

In addition, I always have a soft spot for Susan Lewis, whom I ship with Kerry greatly, as her level-headedness quite often offers balance to some of the show's storylines. Then there's Abby Lockhart, whose character development impresses me so much, and Carol Hathaway who was the reason I started watching the show in the first place (can you tell I'm a simp for Julianna Margulies?).

Which lesser-used channel on the server do you particularly appreciate? Being a non-native English speaking fic writer for an American show can be...well, challenging, so "translation-localisation" is great to ensure accuracy when it comes to vocabulary and other related stuff, especially as I'm not accustomed to using American spelling, terms, and slang words in my writing lol

Favourite scene, episode, season? Gosh, this is hard... One scene that I can always replay is, unsurprisingly, Kerry's coming out speech (which I have memorised lol). Another one is Robert Romano signing, "Take care of your dad." to Peter Benton's deaf son Reese which is just heartwarming in so many ways. I also have a soft spot for one particular underrated scene—from "Just as I Am", when Kerry is telling Susan about meeting her biological mother. Susan is genuinely happy to hear it, and her reaction shows how far they've come along as colleagues and wives. As for favourite episodes, "Love's Labor Lost" is a masterpiece though not one that I can watch over and over again, and I have a special place in my heart for "Secrets & Lies" for shits and giggles. Tbh I'm not sure what my favourite season is, but I usually say season 3 because it's the first season featuring both my ladies Sherry Stringfield and Laura Innes as main cast members 😂

Have you ever taken an IRL trip to the ER? Exactly three times. Once when I got dengue fever (#tropicalcountrythingz) at 14 and had to spend a couple of hours in the ER while waiting for an available bed, once when I was travelling to my mum's hometown and had an annoying allergic reaction to something I ate, and most recently about a couple of years ago I was on my way to a work event and very suddenly fell and sprained my ankle which landed me in the ER and caused me to use a crutch for a few weeks. Every now and then my affected leg bothers me (as I have a history of injuries in the same leg) and on worse days I use a crutch or a cane—hand me a lab coat and I'd do the perfect Asian!Kerry cosplay, basically.

"Are you ready to lose?" Virgil purred as Roman sat next to him by the console.

"I'm not going to lose this time princess I promise you that," Roman retorted, ego still much to intact for Virgil's liking.

"Princey princey princey, so naive~" Virgil said, a slight growl to his voice. Roman almost immeadietly veered off course.

"Hey! No cheating!" Roman said with a huff.

"Not my fault you're such a simp you fall apart over a little growl~" Virgil cooed, passing his second lap.

"Oh I bet if I invited Janus over youd be screwed so bad-" Roman snarled.

"Well you're little guardian isnt here to protect you now, is he?" Virgil said with a grin.

"Oh come on! It's been five minutes!" Roman said, dropping his controlling and falling backwards.

"Maybe I'm just that good," Virgil said, moving to lay across him so he couldnt get up.

"Why do I feel like you're not just talking about the game," Roman said, looking skeptically at Virgil.

"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not, details details," Virgil said with a snicker, moving to place a few kisses on Roman's stomach.

"Hey! That t-hA- tickles!-" Roman said, bursting into a fat of laughter and attempting to shove Virgil off him.

"I'm gonna get you for that!" Roman said, but Virgil had already fled the room, Roman following close behind.

"No use running princess! I'm gonna catch you eventually!" Roman said.

He walked aimlessly for a bit before he heard giggling from behind the shower curtains.

"Aha!" Roman said, flinging the curtains open and grabbing Virgil by the waist to pull him out.

"Ok ok you got me! You wHA- wIn- RomA-" Virgil laughed as Roman's hands attacked his sides, head leaning on his stomach and hand gripping his arm to keep from sinking to floor.

"You promise?" Roman said, grinning like a disney villain.

"I promAH- promISE-" Virgil said, letting out an extended sigh as Roman let him drift to the floor.

"I love you princess~" Roman said.

"I love you to you bastard," Virgil said, snickering.

Hey, could you please tell us about your favourite characters :)?

I'll answer some questions starting by this one!

As you can tell my favourite character is Romano he will always have the first place 🥰 the others are France, Japan, Genoa and Monaco! I love all the characters in the show tbh but I mainly talk about the Italian characters because being Italian I'm familiar with this country. I will talk a bit about why I love them keep reading if you're interested! :)

About Romano:

I'm so in love with him !! At the beginning he was my favourite character just because he's my country but reading the manga I started to find more things about his complex personality which made him a really interesting character! From how neglected he was as a child to how he doesn't realize when people are showing him love. I honestly love everything about his canon personality because he does things I wish I could do and we both have a problem showing affection so it makes me sad to see people who don't even try to understand why he behaves in certain ways.. and at the same time I feel sad whenever people try to erase every single bad trait :( headcanons are always cool!! But here I'm talking about Canon Romano!!

I'll make a simple example to explain what I mean: Romano is lazy. But there's a reason and it's important to understand it! He became lazy because every time he tries to do something good, accidents happen! And if it isn't an accident, it's his brother stopping him from doing something stupid. (Obviously, it isn't Veneziano's fault I wouldn't have high expectations either lmao 💀). And sometimes we can see him working, like in that one strip where Prussia finds him working without shoes or how he tried to find a job in America's house. Now, there's an explanation to why he's like this most of the time, so does it mean he isn't lazy? No! He still has this trait! It's part of his character just like the other traits (he gets angry a lot, is envious of his brother, and so on). I believe it's important to understand him more instead of straight up villanize him or completely erase his bad traits :((

In other words, Romano has bad traits caused by things that happened to him and in my opinion we should try to understand what made him this way without either: (1)villanize him, (2)justify him or (3)act like these bad traits never existed in the first place. We can clearly see that instead of working hard to become a better person he finds it easier to blame other people. We can't deny it!

I'll say it again: it doesn't apply to people who love making headcanons and AUs !! These things are important only when we're talking specifically about his canon personality.

I watched a lot of animes but he's my most favourite character ever so I obviously don't like seeing negative things against him but I also wanted to say that it's okay to dislike him! As long as you don't bring negativity in the tags it's okay to have an opinion! It's also okay to change him a bit because as I said creating headcanons is fun. This is just my opinion about my favourite character so please don't take it as me trying to tell you what you have to do!!

Japan:

He has a really interesting personality with bad and good traits too! But one of the main reasons I love him is how awkward he is. His awkwardness is so strong that even if he's really close to someone he will still hesitate do to anything slightly embarrassing in front of them and he's so relatable.. I can be a bit louder with my close friends but I still hesitate to make jokes or do anything funny,,, I wish I was less scared of people and I'm sure he feels the same.

France:

Well,,, I don't know why I love him so much. He did a lot of bad things, but he's also a fun chaotic character and I love his friendship with Spain and Prussia! I'm the biggest France simp for no reason I guess haha but I still understand why people might dislike him so it's okay if you do! Just like for Romano I don't want to erase his bad traits but I also don't want to see people hating him on my face.

Genoa:

Well pt2,,, loving him doesn't make sense kdhshfj he isn't my city and he doesn't even have a canon personality: all he did was literally selling Corsica and calling himself a genius but it was enough to steal my heart <3 he has my favourite design, he's gorgeous and I will fight Himaruya if he doesn't give him a pretty colour palette :)). Tbh my favourite thing about him is that one of my closest friends is Genoese so we love to give him headcanons together.. his story is really interesting to study and Genoese stereotypes are funny so I feel like I have an empty book in my hands and I can write in it freely!

Monaco:

She's pretty, elegant and smart! She's short and can't really fight but she's intelligent and knows what she's doing all the time :0 . She has a bizarre addiction to poker and honestly I can't think of anything bad about her, she's my favourite girl in the show!

Others?

I don't want this post to be too long so I will end it here! Some of my other favourite characters are Switzerland, North Italy, Prussia (I have a love-hate relationship with him?) and Sweden.. I think there are more?? Help?? Tbh Himaruya is really good at his job, most of his characters are perfect <3 <3 I'm more comfortable talking about the Italian ones but it doesn't change the fact that I love them all!!

If you can could you do some hetalia headcanons for the main 8 (not including America or including him if you want to) as well as Prussia, Romano, Spain, and Canada that have a American S/O that uses a lot of Meme slang (like Yeet or Salty or Shook or Mood you get the picture) and the countries are just like 'WTF are they saying?!' and because of it they have to try and explain it, Key word TRY. Pardon? You were drinking some hot chocolate, reading on your phone. He'd ask if you were alright. His mind would assume you’re scared, or got shivers from a ghost walking through you.

“Did you just have an Encounter?”

This man is high-strung so don’t laugh otherwise he’ll be offended and get rude. What an absolute brat.

It’s meme slang, you tell him. “Love, I deal with enough slang on a regular basis. We don’t need any more.”

This guy is vaguely aware as he is exposed to America quite often and he himself is a London aware of changing tides, but he’s then he deems it ‘Improper’ and implores you not to use it too often.

“He is being salty.”

He doesn’t know how to take this. That man on the TV is being irritating, but he can’t comprehend what you mean.

This man is helpless with technology. If you show him the word meme, he will say “mee-mees”. He is uncultured in the ways of the internet.

You explain, and he just nods, but he doesn’t understand. He comprehend, but doesn’t understand. Barely ever.

This man basically embodies ‘old dogs can’t learn new tricks’.

“You’re such a simp.”

“Only for you.” Awww, Canada, baby.

Of course he knows. This boy is young in comparison to every other personification and he goes on the internet.

He isn’t one for speaking in slang normally, only when someones being extra cringe or dissing someone. Boy is cultured but sassy.

He also has a folder of memes. Mostly saved from America, but now he knows you’ll understand them and won’t cringe at him, you will now get them when you’re apart. He wants to make you smile and if memes are the way to get deeper into your heart then so be it. America is literally supplying him with the hottest memes out there for free.

1p!Russia

“Cash me outside, how ‘bout that?”

He recognises it. It doesn’t click in his brain, but he remembers America shouting it at some point. Just like you’re doing because he inconvenienced you. Please don’t fight him.

You can show it to him, but he isn’t all that interested. Internet culture doesn’t interest him. He doesn’t follow trends and only got Facebook because America insisted on making him an account. The dude only has a laptop for work and his phone has basically no app. His highest used is Tetris.

He’ll recognise things you say, but will mostly just give you a judging stare. Or maybe chuckle if you make a fool of yourself.

Calm down, you’re being way too energetic about throwing that into the bin.

He deals with all of his siblings at home, and then America at Big Work Meetings. He does not want to have it from you.

This man needs chillness in his life, consistency. He hates hecticness. So you throwing shit and shouting will get on his nerves before he tells you to pack it in.

Yeah, he’s too grouchy for this stuff.

“Is this a bird?”

“That’s a butterfly...” He doesn’t get it. He has watched a few animes, that’s what happens when you’re friends with Japan. And America. And Prussia. And also Romano because it’s his guilty pleasure so he may catch on to what you’re saying.

He’ll also understand other memes you say, but he doesn’t find them themselves funny. He just actually enjoys watching your expressions to it and your enthusiasm.

He works off other peoples happiness, so seeing that grin of yours whilst you imitate gives him the butterflies in his stomach.

He will try though to pepper some in if you are a user of memes in your language. He wants to pick them up to make you smile. He’s such a cutie-pie UwU.

“Ah yes, stonks.”

No, these are the finances, honey. They’re not-oh... now he’s slightly disappointed as he looks at you from over his glasses.

Prussia is energetic about his memes, and Germany will often be ‘gifted’ with them. Sometimes, he’ll read through them but often he’ll scroll through them all. His brother spams. Heavily.

You may get lucky sometimes if it’s an animal meme to make him smile, or exhale sharply through his nose, but Germany doesn’t often find them funny.

Like Italy, he’ll smile if your positively thrilled with it.

“That is a juicy boy.”

Oh, thank you, s/o. He’s happy you’re enjoying the meal he made you.

He knows memes. This man watches anime. He has every social media account on all platforms. He will smile, he will partake in some fine dining that is the dank meme section of the internet.

They’re mostly the anime version of a meme. He doesn’t really enjoy edgy humour, and while a Danny DeVito meme about magnum dong is mildly humorous, it just isn’t his sip of tea.

He’ll say memes out-loud in the same room as you sometimes, in that deadpan voice of his, which always makes it ten times funnier. Even his commentary of anime that you’re watching a rerun of will have memes in it. And if you say you’re watching an anime and got to this specific episode, you bet he’ll pull up his neatly made folders on his phone for that anime and send it. He appreciates that you like that type of humour.

1p!Prussia

“That is a sweaty boi.”

Dat boi? Dat boi! Prussia is a people pleaser at heart and a goofball so of course he knows memes. This man has a large following on the internet, he makes a living off people enjoying his content!

As soon as you spill the proverbial bag of you liking memes, he will spam. His line of thinking is often, “Hahaha, this is hilarious. S/o may also find this funny. I will send it to them!” And if there’s one meme on that website with him scrolling hours at a time, you will get sent at least like 30 in an hour.

He will try his darnedest to make you laugh, so you will get a specific meme made about anyone you know too just to see you in tears over it.

“I have an army.” He sends you a picture of England. “We have a Germany.” Yeah, it’s that MCU meme of Loki and RDJ... Sometimes he’s not that funny, but A+ for effort!

1p!Romano

“One does not simply--”

Yeah, he knows what you;re going to say and rolls his eyes. If it’s anything too cringe, he will laugh at you and take the piss. But he will not hesitate to make an edgy or self deprecating meme.

Romano is ‘do as I say, not as I do’ type of person, and also never call him out for his hypocrisy. He will get snooty with you.

But he does enjoy them even though it doesn’t seem like it. He enjoys seeing you happy about them so as long as you’re shameless and don’t take his elbow digging to heart it’s all fine.

Don’t call him out for laughing at whatever meme you say or send, as he will get defensive and annoyed with you. Imagine edgy teenager ‘I’m not like everyone else!’.

1p!Spain

“Pepe the frog.”

He partakes in a bit of memeing. He enjoys it. He’s got you.

But boy does he like the incomprehensible ones. Where the pictures highly saturated and has a couple of nonsense words put across it not lined up. He is cracking up at it.

Normal ones are fine too, but it’s either Facebook mum ones or weird incomprehensible. No in between. He doesn’t get that deep on the internet to understand the ones with context.
