We are in the midst of Holy Week and the readings tend to be dark. But yet, there in the midst is this Hope! The Lord will deliver me! I just need to ask!
O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into morning: Drive from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. It’s Palm Sunday! I don’t like Palm Sunday. It makes me feel uncomfortable. It reminds me how fickle we as humans are and I’m afraid. It also reminds me how quickly things (our moods, our loyalties) change. It reminds me of the power and influence I allow others to have over me, ignoring truth. Ignoring what is right. But as we walk the road before us this week, we also know who knows us. Understands us. And forgives us! Thanks be to God!
Assist us mercifully with your help, O Lord God of our salvation, that we may enter with joy upon the contemplation of those mighty acts, whereby you have given us life and immortality; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen (Source: The Book of Common Prayer, p. 270).
