‘nobody wants a general election, obviously’, says second PM in a row that wasn’t voted in by the general public, wasn’t even voted in by members of the party let alone the people he claims to represent, and whose party is predicted to lose said general election

also honestly whole post is kind of not relevant to scotland right now anyway which makes the "young scot card" comment so utterly fucking bizarre????? the may elections are england and wales only. it's not a general election?! and for the equivalent scottish parliament elections (not being held in may, dw) you don't need ID to vote anyway. by the way.

God Save the King
I recorded and then watched the magnificent and regal ceremonies of Prince Charles III’s coronation. We, Americans, though we have plenty of pomp and circumstance at various and important occasions, don’t hold a candle to what took place yesterday. Charles became king the moment Queen Elizabeth died so the coronation yesterday was more symbolic in a solemn religious service that acknowledged the…

Oxymorons
The term ‘Scottish National Party Member of Parliament’ is, like ‘caring British Conservativism’ and ‘British Labour socialism’, an oxymoron. Each pairing involves concepts which are incongruous or contradictory. It may be possible to be a Conservative and to care about people. It may be possible to be associated with British Labour and yet have a social conscience. But neither compassion nor a…

PAPUA NEW GUINEA IS A FAILED STATE
PAPUA NEW GUINEA IS A FAILED STATE
by: NELSON WANDI, Source HERE, 16 August 2022 How can the government turn the blind eye to interrelated realms of judiciary, economy, and politics wallowed in the corruption mire? Our government is running a failed state, and the government can not be pretending to live in a well-functioning state. In a democracy, we would’ve thought that we would be getting better as we evolve democratically.…

Liz Truss, comeback kid – POLITICO
Liz Truss, comeback kid – POLITICO
Press play to listen to this article LONDON — It’s Westminster’s oldest cliché — but a week really is a long time in politics. Seven days ago, Liz Truss was watching her fledgling bid for the Conservative leadership falter after the first round of voting left her in a distant third place. Fast-forward one week and the U.K. foreign secretary has secured the backing of sufficient Conservative MPs…

“Bagpipes Greet Justice Minister,” Ottawa Journal. February 11, 1942. Page 3. --- Greeted by the skirl of bag-pipes and lusty handshakes of many of his compatriots. Justice Minister St. Laurent, successful candidate in Monday's Quebec East byelection, arrived at Union Station Tuesday night.
He arrived in Ottawa shortly after ten o'clock from Montreal where he had been given a hearty reception at Windsor Station, when more than 200 supporters sang "O Canada".
First to greet the Minister of Justice as he got off the train was Pensions Minister Mackenzie, who extended a hearty welcome on behalf of the delegation of Parliament members who crowded behind him. Mr. St. Laurent referred to results of the byelections In warm and glowing terms.
"The election was highly satisfactory to all good Canadians. It expressed the satisfaction of Quebec in Prime Minister King's policies. In fact it was a personal tribute to the Prime Minister."
Mr. St. Laurent will not take his seat in the House until the re turning officer for Quebec East sends in his official report on the count of the ballots cast which is expected to be late next week.
He left the station with his arm linked through that of Hon. Ian Mackenzie's, the entire delegation being piped along the length of the platform by Tom Reid, member for New. Westminster. B. C.
