An Unhealthy Childhood Begets an Unhealthy Life (Mr. Enter: The Unauthorized Biography)
Content warnings for this part: pedophilia, drug abuse, child abuse, and bullying
Tumblr media
Pictured: Keith Rauh and Jennifer Rozanski, c.1992
Sometime in 1991, then-18-year-old Keith Rauh was smoking marijuana with his friends in Chicopee Memorial State Park, enjoying the day's good weather, when they were approached by a group of girls from their high school. The group included a girl named Jennifer Rozanski, who was 15 at the time. Keith reciprocated her advances, and what followed was an unhealthy and illegal relationship.
Despite this, Keith would remember this relationship as a positive time in his life. Decades later, he would muse about it in Soul Bond, his autobiography and memoir:
We were young, and I remember her telling us, we had to be quiet, or her parents would hear, and they would get in trouble! (...) We had a whirl wind romance from the very start, and we both fell deeply in love. We were almost in separable at first. Little did I know then, this relationship, would effect me, my entire life. (...) I thought at the time, we were high school sweethearts, destined to be together forever. We had a lot of good times together! - Soul Bond (Life, Love, and the Paranormal), Keith Rauh
It was Keith who introduced Jennifer to addictions she would retain for the rest of her life, including alcohol, tobacco, and opiates. It was Keith who got Jennifer pregnant with her first child in late 1991. It was Keith who chose to leave the relationship soon after.
We were young, and she got pregnant. At this point, things had gotten rough, and we were arguing a lot, like a reaction, of two young star-crossed lovers, having to grow up, way too fast. (...) I don't know why, still to this day, but something inside me, said runaway, and run like hell. This was right before, my first son was born, and I was gone with the wind. - Soul Bond (Life, Love, and the Paranormal), Keith Rauh
Keith stayed in Chicopee until he graduated from high school in 1993, at age 20. He moved to another city soon after. Eventually, he was arrested for drug possession and spent several years in jail. It would be over a decade before Jennifer would hear from him again.

Jonathan Joseph Rozanski was born at Baystate Medical Center on July 21, 1992. Because of Keith's abandonment, Jennifer decided to give the boy her own last name. Jennifer spent the next three years raising Jonathan with the aid of her parents. While Enter credits them as being a positive force in his childhood, they were insistent that Jennifer got married after she turned 18, because the family was Catholic.
That pressure might have been the catalyst for Jennifer's sudden engagement to Brian Plourde in 1995. The two met when Jennifer was 19 and Brian was 21, and Jennifer was soon pregnant with Brian's child. Because they were both Catholic, and because of pressure from Jennifer's parents, they married almost immediately.
Brian decided to keep his last name, while Jennifer decided to hyphenate, changing her name to Jennifer Rozanski-Plourde. Brandon Plourde, John's half-brother, was born in January 1996. Over the next 4 years, they had 2 more kids, girls named Ashley and Emily.

At 2 years old, John saw The Lion King at the movie theater - his first movie, and one of his earliest memories. He was spellbound by the experience, and it most likely played a significant role toward his developing interest in animation. Meanwhile at home, he would watch The Lion King and Aladdin on repeat for days at a time without getting tired of them.
This might have been an early sign of him being on the Autism spectrum, which he wouldn't discover until he was an adult. As a child, he also had several sensory and social issues, many of which persist into adulthood. Some of these included:
A sensitivity to the texture of scotch tape, receipts, and newspaper
A dislike for ketchup, describing it as spicy
A sensitivity to the taste of mint, to the extent that he refused to brush his teeth because of it
Difficulty engaging with other children, and inability to make eye contact.
Jennifer's parents soon bought a separate house for the family to live in. Enter would talk about Brian's role in the family years later.
I don't measure my success in money, most likely because my step-father always measured his success in money. And nothing about that man was successful. Literally pregnancy-trapped into a marriage with three kids he had no qualms with saying that he did not want in a house owned by his wife's parents. - Today I learned that Pluto is a Planet, John Enter

In 1997, John started school. He attended Our Lady of Hope, a K-8 Catholic school in Springfield, MA. Shy and focused on his own interests, he hated the time he spent there even as early as kindergarten.
Some subjects, like reading, he excelled at - later claiming that he learned to read before he even started school, and that he read dictionaries for fun. Others, like math, were such a struggle for his teachers that he was forced to teach himself. Enter later confessed he would cheat on, and rush through, assignments.
While attending kindergarten I learned that I got to go to the play area when I was finished with my work. I learned to cheat at the race, cutting corners hoping that I wouldn't be seen. - Today I learned that Pluto is a Planet, John Enter
John also faced what he believed was unfair treatment from his teachers. He also talked about this later in life.
Kindergarten teachers learn from Marx. The best way to teach sharing is not taking a toy away from someone who is content and give it to the other kid who just looked at longingly. - 30 Things I Learned in School, John Enter
That same year, John joined his school soccer team at the insistence of his parents, where he played goalie. He got a participation trophy at the end of the season, which he keeps to this day as a memento of the now-closed school.
Tumblr media
Pictured: Jonathan's participation trophy, in 2018
The trophy also serves as a memento of Jonathan's birth name. Soon after, his name was changed to Johnathan with an 'h'. This might have been John's decision, since he took pride in his name going forward, believing that it was clearly the correct way to spell a name which shortened to John.
John spent his early years of school socially isolated, in part because of his shyness and social difficulties caused by ASD. This led to him developing some odd habits, including talking to himself in class and singing on the bus. This might have played a role in the bullying his faced as he went into second and third grade.
John was verbally abused for his odd behavior. That included a time when he blurted out the Kim Possible theme song on the bus, and another time when, though the exact details aren't clear, he was mocked for having a crush on an imaginary friend. The verbal bullying slowly escalated to physical abuse, like an incident when he was stuck with a "kick me" sign. When he complained to his parents, they told him to ignore the bullies, and that they would stop if he did.
One day during recess, a frequent bully approached John and started making fun of him. When he refused to respond, the bully assaulted John with pepper spray he brought from home. John cried and ran to tell a recess monitor, but because of either misunderstanding or disbelief, she ignored him.
He never told his parents what happened, and when his school found out about it days later, their solution was making John repeat third grade to separate him from his bullies. He was left with trauma he'd keep for years, pointing to that day as the start of his disillusionment.
I repeated the third grade to get away from the bullies that had plagued me from the start after an incident where my bully decided to pepper spray me in the face. My eyes were watering and I told the teacher watching the schoolyard, and I was ignored. And I saw how the world worked. - Today I learned that Pluto is a Planet, John Enter
Tumblr media
Pictured: John, Brandon, and one of his sisters, c.2002-2004 (from a profile picture, highest quality available)
While John's school life didn't improve much after that, he found comfort in his siblings, and in entertainment like cartoons, books, and video games. John loved the Wayside series of books by Louis Sachar, and read them to his brother and sisters. They quickly became comfort books for the four. John was also a fan of the Goosebumps series.
John and Brandon played video games together, with some of their favorites being Spyro The Dragon, Sonic The Hedgehog, Goof Troop, Twisted Metal 4, and Halo: Combat Evolved. John also played the game My Little Pony: Friendship Gardens - his first experience with the franchise. The four also watched cartoons together, like Courage The Cowardly Dog, KaBlam!, and SpongeBob SquarePants.
It was around this time that John's interest in writing and video game design started. He wrote out narratives and ideas based on video games he played, including Spyro The Dragon and Baldur's Gate, and eventually decided he wanted to be a video game designer. When he told his school and parents about it, they told him it was unrealistic as a job, and encouraged him to go to college for something more sustainable.
Tumblr media
John's relationship with his parents was strained to say the least. Jennifer struggled with addiction during this time, and sometimes fell asleep with a cigarette in her hand while under the effects of Oxycodone, relying on John to wake her up. In one specific incident, she left the gas stove on, and John only noticed because he got up to use the bathroom.
Jennifer allegedly made John work a paper route only to pocket his money for her habits, claiming she was saving it for college or his birthday. The amount stolen added up to hundreds of dollars. John developed a habit of spending money immediately because of that.
Brian, meanwhile, was abusive toward John and unappreciative of his other kids, talking openly about how he didn't want them. He sometimes gave John tasks he didn't know how to do, then mocked him when he did something wrong. Whether he did it intentionally or candidly is unclear.
Brian allegedly beat John with a leather belt when his grades were low or when he refused to do his homework, to the extent that John became traumatized by the sight of them. But it was a verbal incident that traumatized John the most.
The regret was pierced into my soul and my psyche one hapless day. I remember a lot about it, and I don't remember much at all. I remember it started at five in the evening with dinner. I was asked why my grades were terrible. I was asked again and again, and no answer would suffice. My step-father, a well-built man with an intimidating stature. He slammed on the table until this boy was lost in buckets of tears. This boy who was so socially insecure he couldn't tell his family that the house was on fire. This boy who was recently bullied by children and still bullied by adults. They took the food and drink sooner or later, and the boy gave many answers—from "I don't understand the material" (which was an unsatisfactory answer) to "I don't care." The only satisfactory answer was "because I'm lazy." That answer came about at 8 PM and the food was returned, cold and salvaged by flies. - Today I learned that Pluto is a Planet, John Enter
Tumblr media
Pictured: Various photos of Patrick, 2000s
In early 2004, John had a pivotal experience when he and his family visited an animal shelter to adopt a dog he could call his own. The family already had a lot of pets crowded in a fairly small house, which included at least three Chihuahuas, two rabbits, a ferret, and a dog that belonged to Brandon. The care they could provide for them in those conditions was questionable. But the Newfoundland mix John chose quickly developed a bond with the boy, and he cared for the dog the best he could.
John's puppy was energetic from the start. His favorite treats were apples, and he loved roughhousing with John. Almost immediately, the family noticed his tendency for stupid habits, like how he'd run in circles until he accidentally bumped into a wall. That's why John and his family eventually decided to name him Patrick, in reference to Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants. Patrick soon became John's best friend, and one of the most important pieces of his life.
Tumblr media
Even from this early age, Johnathan was heavily influenced by the media he consumed, which gave him a strong creative drive that he would spend much of the future exploring. His retreat into fiction, though, might have been more of an escape from his difficulties at home and in school. What happened in the next few years would prove to be equally reflective of the man John would grow up to be.
next part coming soon...

I need to have a rant about the UK, the heatwave we're getting next week, and shitty attitudes peeps might have about it :V
Tumblr media
First just gonna if you're in the UK, we're about to potentially get our first ever 40C day next week (previous record was 38.7C for reference). Best advice is to keep your windows shut during the day, keep all the curtains shut and if need be put foil in the windows to reflect out heat (I'm legit considering the last point >_>). Make sure you keep hydrated, more than you think you need but not too much. Also make sure kids are adequately cooled and that you keep checking in on elderly people you are about 'cus both ends of age we end up with thousands dying in a year from heatwaves.
Second, people who are like "Oh but we get hotter temperatures regularly, wimps" and other similar shit just. Go past the memes, shut up for a moment and maybe read under the read more.
SO. Right. In 2021 the UK Met Office brought in to weather warnings "Extreme Heat", which seams standard enough except almost immediately after bringing that type of warning in they had to issue the 2nd highest level (within like, weeks IIRC?). A year later and we're now on the highest level, which they consider "an extreme risk to life"
Tumblr media
Look, it me *points at Manchester*
Now I know what you're thinking, "why are you making such a fuss about this? Surely if you're getting these temperatures regularly then as a country surely you're getting used to it and mitigating it?" to which yeah we are trying to but we can only do so much with what we have.
Like I cannot spell out enough how rapidly these changes have happened (almost like climate change is real 🤔) but lets just, kind of point out some things that are happening:
UK building codes focus on heat but only in one direction, don't let it out - A properly insulated building would resist letting heat in as much as it resists letting heat out. However because until the past 20 years the UK was generally a cooler, wetter, country, it's never been a focus. Why wouldn't you want heat to come in when your climate is cooler? Well the answer to that is if a tiny portion of humanity decides it's okay to roast us alive for money you'd be able to deal with it.
The consequence of this is pretty simple. If your home equalises with the outdoor temperature (which you can try to mitigate), even if it cools down it can take days for that heat to finally get out unless you've got a home with decent airflow or just really shit insulation.
For example during last week's heat wave (yes... we've only had three days of respite...) it took 3 days for my flat to finally stop being 5C to 10C hotter than outside 'cus we just could not get the heat to shift. Now apply this principle to almost every home or public building you can think of like schools, pubs, offices, that don't have air conditioning. Oh yeah, that's the next point.
The UK generally doesn't have air conditioning unless you're rich or you're in a public building that is new or managed to retrofit it in - I'm not kidding. Most of us don't even have portable AC units 'cus they don't even properly fit our windows. We literally often end up dealing with heatwaves like this:
Tumblr media
And god so often do we get these shitty "Oh just get AC" comments as if implying that AC is fucking cheap in the UK. Or that a lot of us own and don't rent our homes to get it installed.
The UK admittedly kind of has an obsession with buildings having large windows - Like even my flat has large windows? Not the best but they're generally always designed in a way to keep the heat in, so that's already a problem. I guess the idea is to let in as much light as possible so that the sun adds a bit of heating on a colder day. Now imagine if there were buildings with complete glass fronts suddenly dealing with direct sunlight at 40C, oh...
Tumblr media
Okay so that's already three problems and the bulk of UK homes and offices date back to the 60s and 70s, which means they were already up to (and over with buildings from the 1800s) 70 years and more behind modern building codes. Even if the UK was preparing for these temperatures (since 2003, and we haven't been) the bulk of buildings simply wouldn't be able to cope anyway. There's two solutions to this, you knock all these buildings down and build new ones - or - you retrofit them all. Both of these are extremely expensive and the government will refuse to bank roll this. Don't die from heat stroke peasants!
And we're not even talking about infrastructure yet, I've only focused on "buildings which may contain people for more than a few hours". Lets look at that, with the first easy point that popped up even a decade or so ago...
UK Rail is not designed for regular high temperatures, it's designed for 27C stress free (so no trains on it) - (got a source for that one if you're curious) So trains will have to slow down because sometimes in these kinds of temperatures if the circumstances are right our railways could just buckle from expansion and in worst case scenarios kind of just pop out like springs 'cus railways are kind of designed to be at tension so when a big heavy thing goes over it it doesn't just, give way underneath the big heavy thing. So that's already one infrastructure "ah".
UK Roads are also not designed for regular high temperatures - An example given for this is that once the BBC took a temperature reading on the A68 Earlston in Scotland, 21.2C, but the road temperature was 49.2C, which is pretty much where our roads start melting like chocolate, but less delicious and more dangerous. You'll also note that this article is from 2013 and cites incidents in 2003 and 2006... Lets see what's happening this week, oh!
Tumblr media
Which yeah, that's not a surprise if 21C in direct sunlight can start making roads tacky like taffy then boy, 40C will.
We're having at least one bridge fall apart because of heat causing it to expand - (Source) Again, a simple matter, especially with historical metal bridges (and I'd argue structures as well) like the Hammersmith Bridge where they were built to withstand load and temperature specifications long since gone. How often do you have to cover a bridge in foil to stop it getting too hot, and have to run cooling systems at night to also try to stop it getting too hot? I'd argue if you're in a country where you're used to these temperatures, rarely! Meanwhile...
Tumblr media
Now in a normal sensible country not run by madmen who wish to only make a profit, these matters would be touched on. But all these points require public expenditures to adapt an entire country to deal with climate change. But it's not happening. That bridge? The government's Ministry of Transport refuses to provide any more than a third of repairs. Even though it's a historical bridge and a major crossing over the Thames.
If they're not willing to bankroll London you can bet your ass is Westminster's government not going to bankroll changes elsewhere.
Almost all these points point the blame squarely on poor planning by the UK government for 20+ years. - Not a shock of course, it's not like the UK doesn't have plenty of people who deny climate change, even MPs. But these are all reasons that with proper planning could've been mitigated well before the country starts melting. I believe the devolved governments are trying, but there's only so much they can do within their confines as they still technically have to deal with Westminster.
I could've given simple people reasons, British people are acclimatised to cool temperatures and so on. But they're often ignored and framed as us being unable to cope.
I could've pointed at the UK also having issues with wildfires now. I could've pointed at the fact that I'm in a particularly wet part of the UK it's not rained for two weeks.
But I know those kinds of points get shrugged off as other than the wildfires there's not really any "oh so that's why" reason. It just looks like the British public are idiots with temperature and should suck it up. (Granted given how often the general public lobster themselves in heatwaves that's not entirely an incorrect assessment...)
However maybe seeing that schools are having to shut ('cus most don't have air conditioning), hospitals having to cancel appointments (likely to deal with an influx of people suffering heat stroke) and our roads just melting, will kind of frame how this country was never ready for regular days of 25C, it wasn't ready for regular days of 30C and certainly was never ready for 40C.
The same works in reverse after all, Brits have no real right laughing at Texas when it snowed (well, okay, we could all join in and laugh at the "snow isn't real" conspiracy theories). If your infrastructure isn't ready then of course it's going to struggle.
Just, be a little more patient with people and not just go "Oh get air conditioning" as if it's some magical fix to the UK's climate change issues.
I do get ratty every year with this kind of thing and for genuine good reason.
Anyway now to price up how much tinfoil I need to cover our stupid windows.

so, the newest trailer for the reboot of Twister, "Twisters" dropped yesterday.
youtube
on the surface, it's not really something to write home about. classic disaster porn of a movie.
the plot definitely is where i took my first issue. sure, the original 1996 Twister was campy and some of the scenes involving tornadoes were silly, but the main goal of the characters is that they became chasers and scientists to obtain data on the formation of tornadoes to increase the amount of warning time we can give the general public. a noble one, especially since it is still the main goal of meteorologists today nearly 20 years later.
in "Twisters", our main protagonist wants to discover a way to "disrupt" tornadoes. so, my guess is that she and her handsome co-star are going to find a way to stop the Super Mega Crazy tornado that's for sure going to be at the end of the movie. very dumb. and she has a phd? ok.
however, that silliness all but pales in comparison to what i'm actually upset and outright angry about.
during the last 30 seconds or so of the trailer, a tornado is currently hitting and destroying a town. our main characters are fleeing from debris as the storm closes in. the last shot of this scene, focuses on the water tower's supports collapsing under the force of the winds, and for a few seconds, we can read the name of said town being destroyed: El Reno.
Tumblr media
El Reno is a relatively small city in Oklahoma, USA. In 2013, the widest tornado ever recorded formed on the outskirts of El Reno. it clocked in at over 2.6 miles wide (~4.2 km) and had the 2nd highest wind speeds measured on Earth at over 291mph (~468km/h).
video: The Storm Chasing Channel
for reference, from the video above, this is the scale of the entire circulation:
Tumblr media
the storm thankfully stayed over a fairly rural portion of Oklahoma and therefore, didn't cause nearly as much catastrophic damage it could have. however, this being an impressive storm is not the only reason why this day lives in infamy amongst the weather community.
El Reno's tornado was unique on top of its incredible storm structure. the tornado was rain wrapped, which means that the classic condensation funnel most people associate with tornadoes,
Tumblr media
was completely obscured by a dense layer of wind and rain.
Tumblr media
photo: Jason Weingart
these types of tornadoes are especially dangerous because you can't see them. in El Reno's case, the storm was such a rain-wrapped mess that no one in the vicinity could really tell just how large it really became. add to that, it took a path that most tornadoes usually do not and did a nearly 360 degree change in direction as it scoured the ground. for a more comprehensive breakdown of that days events, i'd highly recommend watching this Weather Channel's analysis video.
tornadoes this large usually contain multiple vortices, which are the funnels of wind that do most of the catastrophic damage associated with ones like this. these vortices are what led to the death of 3 experienced storm chasers: Tim Samaras, his son, Paul Samaras, and Carl Young.
Tumblr media
in total, 8 people died as a result of the El Reno tornado.
now, what puzzles me most about this being a detail in this trailer, let alone in the movie, is why. the original Twister is what got many people my age and older into storm chasing and weather in general. and if you're at all familiar with the history of tornadoes, which i'm more than certain a fair majority of their intended audience is, then they are going to 100% recognize the town on that water tower and what it means to the community.
if this had simply been a crazy, unique storm that went through the open plains, i would have no issue with them putting this little nod to El Reno in. but the fact of the matter is, this tornado took 3 experienced chasers from us and killed 5 other civilians.
i just find it incredibly distasteful and disrespectful. it would be like having them try to stop a tornado from destroying Moore--a town that was impacted by the last rated EF5 in the same year, 2013. people died. you couldn't have made up a town name?
this whole thing has had me in a tizzy since i saw the trailer yesterday and it compelled me to make this thread that is v specific and probably no one will care about... but I CARE!!! what the hell!!! FUCK YOU "TWISTERS"!!!!! BOOOO!!!

Indonesia volcano eruptions force thousands to evacuate as airlines cancel flights
Renewed eruptions from a remote Indonesian volcano have triggered fresh evacuation orders and sparked flight cancellations and airport closures this week with smoke, lava and volcanic gasses spewing out of the fiery mountain.
Mount Ruang, a 725-meter (2,400-foot) volcano on Ruang Island, North Sulawesi, has been erupting in spectacular fashion on and off since mid-April, posing a growing threat to those living nearby and to air traffic in the region.
The volcano erupted three times on Tuesday, sending lava and ash clouds into the sky and prompting Indonesia’s national PVMBG volcanology agency to issue its highest alert, warning that a tsunami could be triggered by “volcanic material collapsing into the ocean.”
RELATED ARTICLEA powerful volcano is erupting. Here’s what that could mean for weather and climate
Ruang lies just off the coast of the larger Tagulandang island, where authorities have called on more than 12,000 people to evacuate, according to Reuters.
Footage released by the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) on Thursday showed huge crowds of people awaiting evacuation at ports and towering ash plumes.
PVMBG raised alert levels on Tuesday, warning of “new eruptions and continuous earthquakes” while advising the public to wear protective masks and exercise caution.
The latest eruptions have also forced closures of at least seven airports in the vicinity, including the Sam Ratulangi International Airport that serves the city of Manado, capital of North Sulawesi province and a well-known scuba diving destination.
Nearby schools have also been shut to protect children from volcanic ash, BNPB said. Dramatic footage shared by the BNPB on Thursday showed ash cascading into the air.

Mount Ruang is a stratovolcano, which are typically conical and relatively steep-sided due to the formation of viscous, sticky lava that does not flow easily. Stratovolcanoes often produce explosive eruptions due to gas build-up in the magma, according to volcanologists.
Volcanic ash from Ruang has reached eastern Malaysian airspace, Malaysia’s meteorological department said. “We are monitoring the volcanic dust movements continuously and will update the information and issue aviation weather warnings if necessary,” said Met Malaysia chief Muhammad Helmi Abdullah
Regional carrier Air Asia said it canceled 21 flights following Mount Ruang’s latest eruption.

“Air Asia is continuing to monitor the situation closely and will provide more information on the latest developments.”
Malaysia’s national carrier Malaysia Airlines also issued similar travel advisories on Wednesday, following the cancelation of several flights in the area.
Indonesia, a Southeast Asian archipelago of 270 million people, sits along the Ring of Fire and has more than 120 active volcanoes – more than anywhere else in the world.
Mount Ruang previously erupted in April, disrupting more than 200 flights on April 18 and 19 and affecting tens of thousands of passengers, officials said.
Hundreds living in the volcano’s vicinity were evacuated due to fears it could partially collapse into the sea and cause a tsunami as it did in 1871.

Drilling in Tornado Alley: A firsthand account of a rig manager who had to take cover | Helmerich and Payne
Tumblr media
While my children can sometimes be compared to small tornados, that’s not what I mean. Tony’s account of his experience demonstrates the importance of staying aware and alert at all times, with the safety of those you’re responsible for as your highest calling. The demands of the job are high – around the clock, for the both of us, there’s a job to do. Drilling rigs are inherently exposed to the elements.
Equipment must be designed to withstand some of the most severe environmental conditions, with drilling taking place in nearly all climates around the globe. Desert sands in the Middle East provide constant sandblasting effect and rigs must be outfitted with larger tires to move efficiently from one location to the next. Feet of snow can accumulate in the northernmost rig sites. Maybe you’ve seen North Sea TikTok? As the Shale Boom has progressed in the United States, unconventional long lateral wells are drilled in areas that encounter severe thunderstorms and tornadoes on a regular basis.
As a native Oklahoman, I’ve grown up knowing how to “take cover” during a tornado warning, but most Oklahomans have never actually experienced being in the path of a tornado. Crews on drilling rigs must expect tornadoes as a very real possibility, and Tony Maynard, H&P employee of 17 years and Rig Manager of over a decade, can give a firsthand account of a tornado hitting his drilling rig. “I definitely won’t forget April 19, 2023. We had just started running our production string casing, there was roughly 21,000 feet of pipe in there.
Tumblr media
We had 2,500 feet of casing in the hole. Between my superintendent calling in to just tell me to watch over the weather, and my safety people were doing it as well. We knew something bad was coming our way. I was watching it too when I realized it was coming in our direction.” Drilling sites are host to a high activity operation. Depending on the stage of the well, the operator and drilling contractor, there are a number of various third-party service companies coming and going on location in order to complete their task. “The superintendent was trying to get to us, but it was pretty bad all around there – roadblocks everywhere.
If we resumed operations and something were to happen to somebody out there, we wouldn’t be able to get any help to them. We shut down operations that night and waited until the next morning to assess the situation.” The next day, Engineering arrived, drones in tow. “We had damage to the derrick board. We ended up laying down casing after the engineers came out with drones. It all had to be inspected before we could even move the blocks. And before the crew could even go up, we had a drone inspect pens and make sure nothing was torn loose.” After a thorough inspection, it was determined that the damage incurred to the derrick board was severe enough to warrant a change out.
Once the tasks of laying down casing and drill pipe were completed, the derrick was then lowered and replaced. The crew was cleared to resume drilling ahead. “Yeah, that was April 19. Then on May 11, we had another one, right across the highway from us. You could chunk a rock at it.” Drilling in remote locations – whether in the middle of the ocean, the middle of a rainforest, or the middle of rural Oklahoma – brings its own set of issues when inclement weather takes place. Multiple methods of monitoring exist in the event that systems are unavailable.
The Starlink satellite system on all H&P rigs, storm radios, high tech rig phones, and even a basic antenna for local channels all ensure accurate and up to date weather information is available. How Car Service Centres Handle Unexpected Emergency Issues?
Car emergencies can happen at any time and without warning. Whether it's a dead battery, a flat tire, or an engine failure, unexpected emergency issues can be extremely stressful and frustrating for drivers. That's why it's important to know how car service centre Melbourne handles these situations and what drivers can do to handle these issues on their own. In this blog post, we will explore how car service centres handle unexpected emergency issues and provide some tips for drivers who find themselves in these situations.
What are Unexpected Emergency Issues?
Unexpected emergency issues in the context of car maintenance and repair can be defined as situations that require immediate attention and could cause further damage or pose a safety risk if not addressed promptly. These issues can range from a flat tire to an engine failure and can happen to any driver at any time.
Some common unexpected emergency issues that drivers may face include dead batteries, flat tires, overheating engines, and transmission failures. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, such as extreme weather conditions, the age of the vehicle, and poor maintenance.
How do Car Service Centres Handle Unexpected Emergency Issues?
When faced with an unexpected emergency issue, the first step for drivers is to contact a reliable car service centre for assistance. Car service centres typically have experienced technicians who can diagnose the issue and provide a solution. The technicians are equipped with the right tools and equipment to handle any situation.
The process of handling an unexpected emergency issue starts with a thorough inspection of the vehicle to determine the root cause of the problem. Once the problem has been identified, the technician will provide an estimate for the cost of repairs and the time required to fix the issue.
The car service centre in Melbourne will then proceed with the necessary repairs, which may include replacing a battery, fixing a flat tire, or replacing a faulty engine component. The technician will ensure that the repairs are completed to the highest standards and that the vehicle is safe to drive.

Examples of how Car Service Centres Handle Unexpected Emergency Issues
Here are some examples of how car service centres have handled different types of unexpected emergency issues
Dead Battery
If a driver's battery dies, they can call a car service centre to jump-start the battery or replace it if necessary. The technician will ensure that the new battery is properly installed and that the charging system is functioning correctly.
Flat Tire
If a driver has a flat tire, the car service centre will remove the tire and replace it with a new one. The technician will also inspect the other tires to ensure that they are in good condition and properly inflated.
Overheating Engine
If the engine overheats, the technician will perform a visual inspection of the cooling system to identify any leaks or damaged components. They will then flush the system and replace the coolant to prevent any further damage to the engine.
Tips for Handling Unexpected Emergencies on Your Own
While it's always best to contact a car service centre when faced with an unexpected emergency issue, drivers can take some steps to handle these situations on their own. Here are some tips
Pull Over Safely
If you are driving and notice an unexpected emergency issue, such as a flat tire or engine failure, pull over to a safe location as soon as possible. This will help to prevent further damage to the vehicle and ensure your safety.
Call for Assistance
If you are unable to fix the issue on your own, call for assistance from a reliable car service centre. They can provide guidance on what to do next and send a technician to assist you.
Final Thoughts
Unexpected emergency issues can be stressful and frustrating for drivers. However, by understanding how the car service centre Melbourne handles these situations and what to do in case of an emergency, drivers can be better prepared to handle unexpected situations. Remember to always drive safely and be prepared for the unexpected.

Five cities in Sicily, Sardinia and Puglia have issued fresh warnings for individuals to avoid being out in the midday heat after the Italian health ministry issued the same warning in another 10 cities from Bologna to Rome on Friday.

War, natural disasters left record 71 million people internally displaced in 2022, report says (AP) The war in Ukraine helped push the global total of people left internally displaced by conflict or natural disasters to a record high of 71.1 million last year, according to a report released Thursday by the Norwegian Refugee Council’s Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre. By the end of 2022, 5.9 million people had been forced to move inside Ukraine because of Russia’s invasion, bringing the global total of people internally displaced by conflict and violence to more than 62 million. Syria had 6.8 million displaced by conflict after more than a decade of civil war. The number of people displaced inside their country at the end of the year because of disasters like floods and famine reached 8.7 million, up by 45% from 2021. The total of 71.1 million internally displaced worldwide was a 20% increase since 2021.
Workers Now Spend Two Full Days a Week on Email and in Meetings (WSJ) If you ever wonder why it can feel there’s no time to accomplish anything at work, consider this: Many of us spend the equivalent of two workdays a week in meetings and on email. That is one of the findings in new data from Microsoft that examined the activity of millions of workers who use the company’s business applications. Both workers and bosses complain that digital overload is hurting innovation and productivity. Microsoft’s Jared Spataro commented, “People feel quite overwhelmed, a sense of feeling like they have two jobs, the job they were hired to do, but then they have this other job of communicating, coordinating and collaborating.”
Chicago Feels the Strains of a Migrant Influx (NYT) Bulging suitcases lined the wall of windows facing the street at a North Side police station in Chicago one morning this week. Air mattresses, blankets and pillows covered the shiny lobby floor. And more than 40 women, men and children were crowded together wherever they could find space—sleeping, chatting in Spanish or eating forkfuls of scrambled eggs and sausages that a volunteer had arranged on a long table. Chicago has been confounded by a sudden surge of migrants, mostly from South America, who have been bused or flown from southern states to Chicago Union Station or O’Hare International Airport, and then brought to police stations like the one on the North Side to await shelter beds. City officials and volunteers say the response to the influx has been fractured, as the chaotic reality of the migrant crisis in the United States strains the Democratic-run city’s resources for housing and feeding thousands of new arrivals. And the influx is expected only to increase after a change in federal rules takes effect on Thursday. More than 100 new migrants are arriving each day now, officials said, compared with about a dozen a day a few months ago.
Costa Rica president removes minister, security chiefs amid record murders (Reuters) Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves on Wednesday removed his security minister and other top officials from office, after the Central American nation famed for being a safe haven in the region recorded its worst ever year for homicides. Costa Rica ended 2022 with the highest number of murders on record, with a rate of 12.6 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, and data for the first quarter of 2023 indicate a 40% jump from the same period last year.
Spain to ban some outdoor working during extreme heat conditions (Reuters) Spain will ban some outdoor working during extreme heat conditions, Labour Minister Yolanda Diaz said on Wednesday, as the country faces high temperatures more frequently as a result of climate change. The ban will be in place when the national weather agency AEMET issues an alert warning about a severe or extreme risk of high temperatures. The measure will affect outdoors working such as street cleaning and agriculture, the Labour Ministry added. “We have already seen many episodes, certainly very serious ones, in cleaning and waste collection in which workers have died from heat strokes,” Diaz told reporters.
Ukrainian air defenses (AP) By the time Kyiv residents hear the air-raid sirens signaling an imminent Russian attack, Ukraine’s air-defense units are already on the move. From camouflaged positions, they dart out by truck to farm fields around the capital, ready to take down enemy drones or missiles. The scramble has become an almost nightly event since Russia resumed regular air attacks on Kyiv on April 28 after a nearly two-month lull. The units have intercepted every drone and missile fired at the capital since then. It’s a vast improvement since the opening days of the war, when waves of Russian missiles and aircraft eluded many Ukrainian defenses and inflicted heavy losses on Kyiv’s air force. The bolstered defenses have deterred Russian aircraft from going deep behind the front lines and “greatly shaped the course of the war,” Ian Williams wrote this month in an analysis for the Center For Strategic and International Studies.
Ukraine war will increasingly pit quantity against quality—NATO official (Reuters) The war in Ukraine will increasingly be a battle between large numbers of poorly trained Russian troops with outdated equipment and a smaller Ukrainian force with better Western weapons and training, NATO’s top military official said on Wednesday. Admiral Rob Bauer, the chair of NATO’s military committee, noted Russia was now deploying significant numbers of T-54 tanks—an old model designed in the years after World War Two. “What we will see now is that the Russians will focus—have to focus—on quantity, larger number of conscripts, and mobilize people, not well-trained, older materiel. But large numbers,” he said. The Ukrainians meanwhile would “focus on quality, with Western weapon systems and Western training. That’s the big difference in the coming months, I would say.”
Gathering storm (Foreign Policy) The United Kingdom has delivered “Storm Shadow” cruise missiles to Ukraine ahead of an expected military offensive into Russian-occupied territory, CNN reported Thursday. The missile, jointly produced with France, would give Ukraine the range to strike 155 miles behind enemy lines.
With ex-PM Imran Khan in custody, Pakistan cracks down on his supporters, arresting hundreds (AP) With former Prime Minister Imran Khan in custody, Pakistani authorities on Thursday cracked down on his supporters, arresting hundreds in overnight raids and sending troops across the country to rein in the wave of violence that followed his arrest earlier this week. For this Islamic nation, accustomed to military takeovers, political crises and violence, the turmoil has been unprecedented. It echoed unrest that followed the 2007 assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto during an election rally in the garrison city of Rawalpindi. Her supporters at the time, outraged by her killing, rampaged for days across Pakistan. Clashes with police since Khan’s dramatic arrest on Tuesday have killed at least eight of his supporters and dozens have been injured. More than 200 police officers were also injured. The demonstrators burned down a railway station on the outskirts of the capital, Islamabad, on Wednesday night. / (Later, CNN): Pakistan’s Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan was unlawful, two days after his detention sparked nationwide protests and deadly clashes. One of Khan’s aides said he remained in the custody of the Supreme Court for his own safety and will make another appearance Friday.
China keeps up campaign to pressure critics abroad despite Western backlash (Reuters) China is facing a growing backlash from the United States and other Western governments over its controversial efforts to pressure dissidents and their advocates abroad, but Beijing has appeared undeterred. Authorities in the U.S., Canada, Britain and elsewhere recently have taken a hard line, including with expulsions, indictments, arrests and probes, against Chinese operations they say are aimed at intimidating critics and pursuing officials accused of corruption living abroad. Among Beijing’s alleged tactics are threats of harm, online harassment and clandestine operations on foreign soil to hunt pro-democracy activists. China has pushed back with staunch denials and retaliatory moves while apparently shrugging off any damage to diplomatic relations and betting that trade ties can weather the storm—a signal, experts said, it has no intention of backing off. The latest dispute has centered on Canada’s expulsion of a Chinese diplomat on Monday over allegations that he attempted to intimidate a Canadian lawmaker critical of China’s human rights record. Beijing responded within hours by ordering a Canadian diplomat in Shanghai to leave over what it called Ottawa’s “unreasonable actions”.
South Korea will be vulnerable to North’s drones for years, leak warns (Washington Post) An incursion of South Korean airspace by North Korean drones exposed Seoul’s lack of preparedness in defending against such threats, and it will likely take years for the military to correct its shortcomings, according to a classified U.S. intelligence assessment of the December incident. The findings spotlight the vulnerable state of South Korea’s air defense as its volatile neighbor’s aggressive development of a nuclear arsenal has Seoul and Washington on edge. South Korea has prioritized its defenses to confront incoming missiles while investing heavily in growing its air and naval forces, but Seoul’s focus has come at the cost of neglecting other air defense needs, experts said—leaving the country vulnerable to a threat responsible for extensive carnage in Ukraine, Syria and elsewhere. Five North Korean drones flew deep into South Korea on Dec. 26, including one that pierced the no-fly zone around Seoul’s presidential office. The military scrambled fighter jets and helicopters in response but failed to shoot any of them down.
Israel strikes in Gaza for third day, killing militant commander (Washington Post) Israel attacked new targets in the Gaza Strip on Thursday as Islamist militants continued to launch rockets into Israeli territory, extending into a third day a violent flare-up that has killed more than two dozen Palestinians and heightening the risk of wider conflict. Israeli aircraft struck the upper floor of an apartment building in the south of the enclave, killing three members of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, including one, Ali Hassan Ghali, that the group identified as the head of its rocket program. The other two were his brother and nephew, according to Palestinian media. Seven others were injured in the pre-dawn strike, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The attacks have killed 25 since they began early Tuesday, the agency said, and injured more than 70 others. Six children are among those killed, it added. Israel’s targeting continues to focus on Islamic Jihad while avoiding direct hits on Hamas, the dominant and more heavily armed Gaza faction. Military officials said they saw no sign that Hamas had yet deployed its own weapons in the latest escalation.
Trapped in Khartoum as Combat Rages (NYT) Nurses maneuver through gunfire and shelling to make house calls, delivering babies and providing care to those who can’t reach hospitals. Families barely eat in order to conserve dwindling food and water supplies, as temperatures rise. And the few good Samaritans who venture out to help the elderly or put out a blazing fire face intimidation and arrest by the fighters in the streets. It’s been almost a month since the rivalry between two generals burst into an open war in Sudan, plunging the country deep into a humanitarian crisis and reshaping life in one of Africa’s largest and most geopolitically important nations. The Sudanese capital, Khartoum, has endured the most intense fighting, prompting embassies and the United Nations to evacuate their nationals and staff members—leaving behind millions who now face shortages of water, food, medicine and electricity. “We are feeling increasingly desperate as there’s no end in sight,” said Tagreed Abdin, a 49-year-old architect who has been sheltering with her three sons and husband in Al-Diyum, a neighborhood close to Khartoum’s international airport, the scene of some of the fiercest fighting. Ms. Abdin, who spoke by phone, said she spends most of her days shuttling her boys from one side of their apartment to the other as shelling volleys overhead. When things grow quiet, she allows them to sit by the open windows to escape searing heat.

Welcome to the news channel of the Angry Nature,Today we will tell you about Cyclone Freddy,Madagascar, Madagascar👇another video, https://youtu.be/NzWs39 At least four people have died after a tropical cyclone battered Madagascar's east coast, with heavy rain and powerful winds tearing roofs off houses and triggering a storm surge. Cyclone Freddy made landfall on Tuesday, weeks after another tropical storm killed 33 and left thousands without shelter. Schools have been shut and traffic has been suspended in 10 regions. Earlier, Freddy caused some damage in Mauritius, flooding beachside hotels. The head of Madagascar's National Office of Risk and Disaster Management told the BBC that "negligence" was to blame for the deaths. "Despite the awareness that we spread. People still dare to ignore the instructions and the warnings," said Elack Olivier Andrikaja, adding that three of the deaths happened when a home collapsed. However, the mayor of Mananjary, one of the worst-affected towns, said the damage was not as bad as in previous cyclones because those living close to the river had been evacuated in time. The Indian Ocean island nation of Madagascar is particularly vulnerable to cyclones. It is hit by an average of 1.5 cyclones every year, the highest rate in Africa, according to the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Officials also said 7,000 people had been pre-emptively evacuated from the coastal region directly in Freddy's path, and warnings waves could reach over 8m (26ft) were issued by the International Federation of Red Cross. #madagascar_cyclone #cyclone_freddy #angry_nature #madagascar_tsunami #madagascar _______________________________ The channel lists such natural disasters as: 1) Geological emergencies: #earthquake  #volcanic_eruption  mudflow, #landslide landfall, avalanche; 2) Hydrological emergencies:  #flash_flood #tsunami  Limnological catastrophe, floods, flooding; 3) Fires: Forest fire, Peat fire, Glass Fire, Wildfire; 4) Meteorological emergencies: #tornado, ATTENTION: All videos are taken from open sources. Signs You Need a Home Foundation Repair
Signs You Need a Home Foundation Repair
A home is one of the most significant investments people will ever make. To get the most out of your investment as a homeowner and maintain the highest resale value, you should do everything you can to keep your house in tip-top shape.
Many homeowners forget about the foundation when performing routine maintenance and repairs. While most people believe the roof is the most essential part of their home, other crucial components like the foundation help keep you and your family safe. Your roof is the first line of defense against weather elements like rain and snow. On the other hand, the foundation helps support your home, bearing the structure's weight.
Foundation issues must be addressed immediately to avert costly structural damage. At Basement Remedy, we have an efficient workforce that uses top-notch technology to repair your foundation and basement.
Below are the top eight warning signals that your foundation requires repair. Call us today at (614)915-0230 for more information on foundation repair services.
Signs You Need to Repair Your Home's Foundation
While the prospect of paying for a long list of home repairs can be daunting, fixing a home's foundation is a substantial project that requires careful planning. If there is a problem with the foundation, it could compromise the entire house. The key to successful foundation repair is early detection of the issues and action taken before the damage spreads too far.
Below are some of the most common signs of foundation issues
Poor water drainage
Sticking doors and windows
Moisture in the basement or crawlspace
Bowing walls
Walls that separate from the house
Cracks in flooring
Sagging and uneven floors
Bug infestation
Water stagnating near the foundation
Porches of chimneys separating from the house
Foundation upheaval
Why Is Your foundation an Important Part of Your Home?
A solid foundation is essential for your home's durability and structural integrity. Below are some of the top reasons why you should ensure that you have a structurally sound foundation:
The foundation supports your home
Resists movement
Provides insulation for your house
Moisture proofing
Prevent pest infestation
What Is Foundation Failure?
Foundation failure refers to the phenomenon where the soil beneath a building sinks or slides because of an earthquake or another event.
There is a high risk of catastrophic accidents and even loss of life if the building's foundation is not constructed correctly and the floor sinks and falls. Buildings rely on their foundations for support and stability in weather and terrain.
Weak foundations never yield the most significant results and raise the risk of losing the structure in the event of any form of future movement in the soil. Therefore, they need careful attention during the building process.
The foundation acts as the building's "spine," holding everything together and preventing it from collapsing. The foundation is the most crucial part of any construction if you want it to stand firm, and buildings with solid foundations are more stable and survive longer.
There are three significant types of foundation failure. They include:
General Shear Failure
Punching Shear Failure
Local Shear Failure

A major winter storm, moving through Ontario into Quebec, will develop a strong east-southeast wind in the region Friday afternoon into night.
Peak gusts of up to 90 km/h are called for with a few exceptions. The northeast coastline of New Brunswick could hit gusts of 110 km/h. In northern Inverness County, gusts could reach 120 km/h due to the topography of the Highlands.
The weather agency notes that “similar storms in the past have resulted in utility outages” and “high winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.”
The wind is expected to diminish west-to-east Saturday morning.
Heavy rain will accompany the strong winds. Rainfall Warnings are in effect for the entirety of the Maritimes, except the northwestern corner of New Brunswick. Rain amounts will be in the area of 20 to 40 mm, with higher local amounts possible. Water runoff from saturated or frozen ground could create localized flooding.
There is an additional risk of several hours of freezing rain for the St. John River Valley in New Brunswick Friday afternoon.
Snowfall Warnings for the storm are restricted to the Mount Carleton – Renous Highway and the Bathurst and Chaleur regions of northern New Brunswick. The warnings call for snow totals of 15 to 20 cm Friday afternoon and night, before an eventual change to rain. Other areas of northern New Brunswick could see some initial snow accumulation of less than 15 cm before a turn to rain.
A risk of storm surge is noted in remaining Special Weather Statements for Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and northeastern New Brunswick. While the timing for that risk spans late Friday into Saturday, it is noted that “the highest threat will be during the high tides during the day on Saturday.”
The storm will impact travel and travel services in the region. It is recommended to check on the status of flights and ferries frequently. Hazardous weather will be impacting a large portion of eastern Canada, including much of Quebec and Ontario.
Nova Scotia Power and the province's emergency management officials have been monitoring the storm, which is the same system that has impacted western parts of Canada and parts of the U.S.
"Most likely there will be some power outages and restorations underway and likely damages to some roads," said Jason Mew, director of incident management with Nova Scotia's EMO. "Public works and various other provincial departments and Nova Scotia Power are all ramping up to be ready to respond."
It's anticipated trees and branches could fall and break from the powerful winds and cause widespread outages, there's also a concern for the health of some trees following Hurricane Fiona's impact in September.
"We have seen quite a bit of weakening of trees and branches since Fiona," said Sean Borden, storm lead with Nova Scotia Power. "Since then, we have had over 100 people out in the field every day removing trees around power lines."
Borden says they have crews spreading out across the province, as this storm is expected to impact the entire province, but it's tough to predict the damage.
"We'll be in a better condition closer to the event and early Saturday morning to be able to provide customers with any restoration times," said Borden.

The Ultimate Guide on the Importance of Choosing the Highest Quality Shutters
Protecting your family and possessions is an important part of life. Even if you have a high-value home, there are still some things that can be stolen or damaged by weather. In this article, we'll discuss the importance of protecting your belongings with shutters Melbourne, which make the perfect addition.
Protecting Your Family And Possessions.
The main reason for having shutters Melbourne is to protect your family and possessions from intruders and the weather. With the first, an intruder could be anyone from a burglar to a rogue pet. They are equally dangerous as they have no idea of the damage they can do, so it is important that you keep them out of your house at all costs.
With regard to protecting your possessions, it is important to realise that not all shutters are created equal. While some cheap models might keep out most intruders and stop light rain from entering through gaps in the frame or window glass, these flimsy products can be easily broken or damaged by wind gusts (especially if they aren't fitted correctly).
This means that when you're away on holiday or off at work, there's a good chance one of these cheaper models will fail without warning and let in water which could cause serious damage before anyone notices!
Preventing Weather Damage.
When you choose a shutter that is of high quality, you prevent any damage to your property. The best shutters are made of galvanised steel and powder-coated aluminium. These materials make them sturdy and durable, so they won't rust or corrode over time.
They also protect against weather damage by preventing moisture from getting into them. If your house is near the ocean or in an area where there's lots of rain, wind and salt in the air, then look for material like stainless steel that doesn't rust when exposed to these conditions for long periods of time.
Maintaining A Quiet Environment Inside.
Noise pollution is an issue that affects people of all ages. As you grow older, you may find that you're more sensitive to sounds around you. This can be due to a number of factors, including: Ear damage caused by years of exposure to loud noises An increased sensitivity to certain frequencies (e.g., high-pitched noises) Aspirin use, which can make your ears more sensitive
Keeping You And Your Family Safe.
Shutters can help you keep your family safe by keeping intruders out. These inexpensive, yet effective security products are designed to make sure that no one can enter through windows and doors without a key or passcode.
Shutters are so effective at keeping people out because they're hard to open—they require effort and use up energy. In addition, their weight makes them impossible for someone to move on their own unless they have access to heavy machinery or know the right amount of force needed to put pressure on each individual bar (since not all bars are the same size).
Keep Burglars Out.
Shutters Melbourne can be a great deterrent to burglars. Burglars are always looking for easy targets, and they don't want to put in the effort if they don't have to. The last thing they want is to break through a security shutter only to find that you have an alarm system installed as well - because then, it's not even worth their time!
With this in mind, we recommend installing shutters as part of your home security plan. They won't guarantee that your house is burglar-proof by any means, but it will make it more difficult for someone who wants nothing more than a quick and easy score (and who doesn't care about being caught).
Conclusion
When it comes to protecting your home, the choice you make is important. By choosing shutters that has been manufactured with the highest quality standards in mind, you can be sure that your family will be safe and secure.
