What would happen if Ross and Robert had to babysit Skid and Pump? Would they all get along?

That’s a fun question! And, well, probably not really. It’s a good thing you didn’t include Roy, because if he was there either Skid and Pump would lock themselves in their room, or everything would devolve into chaos.

But! Without Roy, Robert and Ross would probably be willing to give being friendly a try. They’re followers of Roy, so without him they act a bit different. I imagine Ross would just kinda want to let the spooky boys do whatever and wait till babysitting time is over, however Robert may want to try going a bit further. I imagined him asking Lila what the spooky boys like to do for fun, and Lila suggesting jigsaw puzzles.

Robert would probably have at least one since he’s got a lil sister, so he’d try bringing a new one over! Which, well. The spooky boys have reason to be suspicious. After all, Ross and Robert have bullied them. And still sometimes do, at least when Roy’s around. So I imagine things would be tense.

But!! Maybe near the end, the spooky boys might come around. Just them all doing a lil jigsaw puzzle together. It may be quiet and tense, but hey, it’d be progress.

If you're looking for motivation to start up the Spooky Family AU again, let's start with a question. It's easy to see why Lilo and Stitch is Pump's favorite movie, so what was his first time watching it like for him? Especially the Ohana line. You know that one.

YESSSS YOU GET IT YOU ABSOLUTELY GET IT

That’s the exact line I had in mind when thinking about a movie Pump would enjoy. Something that speaks to him, and that hits close to home. Plus, who doesn’t like Lilo and Stitch?

I believe at one point I said that Lila cries at movies, and that it surprises Pump. Well, not anymore, since Pump will also cry during emotional movies. And it started with this one. It hit him hard, and at first he didn’t even know why he was crying, since he felt happy instead of sad. And so, after seeing Lilo and Stitch for the first time, Pump would be quoting it at least twice a day for about a month. He never gets tired of watching it.

How do Skid and Pump do at school? Do they have a good time in there?

I’ve actually rambled a bit about this before to some Discord peeps for a while now but have been a bit too, well, cowardly to post it because it gets a bit real. But also I think it’s important to keep in my AU because a lot of kids experience similar situations.

Well, let’s start off with who Skid and Pump are. They’re two kiddos who definitely are not neurotypical and share the same special interest: Spooky Month, and the most special day itself, Halloween. One of them is hyperactive, the other one has quite a bit of anxiety. I’m super not sure if I’ve mentioned this yet, but in the SF AU Skid has dyslexia and ADHD. Pump has GAD (generalized anxiety disorder).

You may be thinking that perhaps they deal with bullies. In a way, sort of, but not with ones their same age. It’s actually mostly the teachers they have to deal with. Most of the teachers at the school are “old school,” meaning they don’t really appreciate or have patience for kids who deviate from the norm.

There’s also the fact that teachers gossip. No matter how much of a good first impression a kid makes, it will be tinted if a teacher hears from another teacher that the kid has done something to anger them (whether justified or not). And well, imagine a bunch of older teachers complaining about two kids in particular who panic when separated, with one of them who speaks loudly, is hyperactive, and has a learning disability (Skid) and the other constantly being nervous and jumping at small things, and completely freezing up when called on (Pump). Needless to say, they aren’t treated well. Along with the other kids at the school who deviate. Furthermore, the kids who are targeted by teachers tend to stick together. It results in Skid and Pump having some good friends in school who are similar to them.

HOWEVER. Thankfully Lila is a caring and attentive mother who notices the changes in her sons’ behavior when they go to school and come back from it. It culminates in her complaining to the school about how her boys are treated, and she threatens to put them in a different school if the school doesn’t shape up. She really doesn’t want it to come to that, since she knows Skid and Pump have made some good friends in that school.

Thankfully though, Lila is not alone. Other parents follow her lead and start complaining to the school as well. Words eventually travel, and soon the school’s administration takes notice. So then the school is forced to change up its game. The school board ends up firing the principal of the school, which also leads to teachers being fired and replaced with recommendations coming from the new principal. This is when Skid and Pump finally start feeling more comfortable in school, but the feeling of unease still sticks with them as they go through the higher grades. (AND this only happens when the two only have one grade left in that school.)

BUT! That is the entire story, and the current AU takes place when the school hasn’t shaped up yet, but Lila has started complaining. So currently, the main struggle the boys face is school. That’s kind of the main problem they’re facing. Otherwise, they’re living pretty darn good lives right now.

In this Au Jaune exists? How do she get along with Lila?

Jaune and Lila get along really well, in fact they’re super close besties! They’re very casual with each other, often in each other’s space.

They playfully banter a lot, laughing and shoving each other around. They’re both much more silly and goofy when they’re together. When they were younger they were daredevils, bungee jumping and cliff diving and such. They’re more chilled out now and often busy being parents, but their more childish sides definitely show when they’re hanging out together. It’s lots of fun for Skid and Pump, and perhaps a bit embarrassing for Ross.

Aaaaaa I might be late but for the character opinion bingo, maybe Bill Cypher from Gravity Falls or Chara from Undertale?

Heyheyhey sorry I’m very very late, but I see you!

Soooo these are both super interesting villain characters! To be completely honest I know next to nothing about Bill Cipher since I haven’t watched Gravity Falls, but his design has always fascinated me. Why he look like that. I also know he’s the big bad of the series, and I remember watching a clip where he said something about turning Dipper and Mabel into corpses, and so yeah that’s a pretty bad person thing to do.

Then Chara- I’ll also be honest, it’s been a whiiiiiile since I’ve done any Undertale stuff. Though I still remember a lot of the characters super well since Undertale was a fantastic game. Chara is… sadly not one of those-

I don’t remember too much about them besides that they are a huge reason the genocide route takes place. And how Frisk is at first controlled by the player and then taken over by Chara and such. At least according to theories, I think most stuff with Chara is theories. I also remember a phase in the fandom where people were saying Chara did nothing wrong and I remember heavily disagreeing with that. Since the genocide route is kind of a mix of Frisk’s, Chara’s, and the player’s fault. So yeah that’s kinda why I ticked the top second square. For the fun little Undertale debates.

In the Spooky Family AU, has Lila ever had to comfort both Skid and Pump at the same time?

Oh sure, usually it’s due to Pump being sad/crying and then Skid doing the same because brother is Sad and that is Sad. Like the Hatzgang bullying them; normally that wouldn’t bother Skid but if it bothers Pump, you bet it’ll start to bother Skid. Also school isn’t always fun for them. So sometimes they come home in a bitter mood.

Speaking of school, I do have a school-related event that I’ve had in my head for like, a year for this AU. It would have to do with how the education system treats kids who are “different.” Lila would have to comfort both her boys and would have some scalding choice words for the school after the fact.

I’ve been very hesitant about posting anything about it here though, especially since it’s a bit angsty and it might bother some people. That’s why I do my best to properly tag and put warnings for my more sad AU posts, since the last thing I want to do is trigger anyone. And I dunno if it’d be too jarring compared to all the wholesome stuff I’ve posted?

Anyway, I’m still thinking about it.

This is a good question- and to answer, thankfully not!

In this AU, Susie and her grandpa are a completely separate family. This is because I began this AU before confirmation that Susie and her grandpa were Pump’s family. Back before that, there were some theories that Pump’s family was either neglectful or he didn’t have a family at all. The Spooky Family AU is kind of based off those theories, except with a happy ending.

So Susie is currently living with her gramps while her parents are off working. Just like in the OG Spooky Month, except in this AU Pump isn’t related to her. Though she does sometimes babysit Skid and Pump.

Has Pump ever had to be the one to comfort Skid, instead of the other way around?

Oh yes, even the more cheerful kids need a good dose of comfort every once in a while. And Pump is always there to give him as much comfort as he needs, with all the love he has.

Pump may not be as good at spoken reassurances as Skid is, but his hugs sure are top-notch. He’s the kind of kid to stick close to you until you’re feeling absolutely 100%. He’s very patient and wants to make sure that those he loves are doing a-okay.
