#wanting for s5 is gonna drive me bonkers guys

So I actually wanted to post something cool I noticed that I was reminded of thanks to this post.

We almost actually never get to see Vecna in s4 in like, normal lighting, and it obscures a lot of his ‘features. One of the features it obscures is his predominant “dark veins” or like, I don’t know how to describe, the dark/discolored patches on his skin-- and why am I bringing that up? Because this seems to have something to do with his powers and, moreover, it might have to do with the mindflayer. Let me just explain real quick. 

We’ve seen when the MF/cloud thing/shadow monster, enters someone’s body, when its not “hiding” it manifests with dark veins similar to what we see all over Vecna in various forms. This was very evident with Will, when he was possessed by the MF and they started to try to draw it out from within him. As the mindflayer gets close to the surface, Wills veins turn black. 

Will also starts to gain super strength of some kind. He begins to literally howl and scream and even talk some type of distorted gibberish, all in a very monstrous/demonic fashion. In fact, it kind of reminds me of every scene in every movie that depicts demonic possession and that is obviously the intentional aesthetic here. 

We also saw these black veins and even darkened patches of “rotted” skin, with Billy when he was flayed, and a similar thing with other flayed victims. Billy also gains heightened strength when the mindflayer gets full control, and starts to behave in a demonic manner. The signs of rot and decay we can suddenly see on Billy’s skin are particularly interesting to me, given we have seen, in season two in particular, that anything biological that the mindflayer makes contact with starts to rot.  And I can’t help but think of this quote from hallucination Brenner thanks to Kali in season 2 as well: “You have a wound, Eleven. A terrible wound. And its festering. Do you remember what that means? Festering? It means a rot. And it will grow. Spread. And eventually it will kill you.” I feel like this is extremely symbolic to a lot of themes in the show in general, but anyway back to that inhuman squealing/screeching. The vines make that sound on their own, and we can probably confirm they are parts of the MF. (A scene for reference) The vines on/in Vecna’s body are not even exempt. We can literally hear a hissing and clicking noise coming from them from time to time, not to mention the fact they’re almost always moving. 

Vecna is the most physically changed by the MF and I think his entire body at this point shows signs of being, FOR LACK of a better term, “possessed” by the mindflayer. From the Mindflayer’s vines that have literally merged with him, to the black veins, to the obvious signs of rot and decay that are basically trademarks to the MF.  Remember how I mentioned the upside down when Henry was first pushed through to it looks like a world that is devoid of life? As if the life has been completely sucked out of it? Because it seems the mindflayer consumes and rots what it comes in contact with? Yeah, that theory is still looking pretty good to me.  But anyway, heres the REAL interesting thing. I think it seems suggested that somehow the MF is the thing thats actually giving all the psychics their powers. Or rather, that somehow all the psychic powers can be traced back to it.  

In season one, when Eleven uses her powers to kill the orderlies in a flash back she’s left exhausted but we can see her physical complexion has changed. Her skin has become pale and “veins” under her skin are visible, they’ve become darker. Similar to how we see the veins under Vecna’s skin, which is also extremely pale. Heres a pic of it to show what I mean. Its subtle, but its def there, imo. 

We’ve got a lot of canon that heavily suggests Henry got his powers from the MF, so what about Eleven? We know that Eleven’s powers were apparently artificially induced by the experimentation Terry underwent by Brenner.  NOW HERES A THING. I can’t find the article anywhere but there was a whole thing about how LSD apparently helps unlock a higher form of human consciousness, allowing the human mind and perception to connect with things we otherwise can’t normally connect with. LSD has a whole insane history directly tied to MK ultra which is also important that I might talk about at some point but for THIS POST I just want to talk about the extrasensory perception LSD was basically suppose to be able to give some folks because woo psychedelic shit. Popular with hippies, folks who would claim to be able to talk to the trees and animals and shit like that? Terry in the stranger things universe was one of Brenner’s experiments, a man who explicitly worked on MK Ultra in the Stranger things universe, y’all need to look that up actually, but anyway Brenner used drugs like LSD on Terry that apparently gave her a form of higher conciseness.  The point of me saying all this is the idea is Terry was able to connect to something “cosmic” thanks to the drugs Brenner fed her and the experiments he did, whatever Terry was able to unlock within her that allowed her to connect to whatever she connected to, it was this that gave her powers that transferred to the child she was pregnant with at the time, Eleven, with this possibly tying into into the MF if it was in fact the higher force Terry was somehow able to channel in order to have powers--- which ties into the fact that IT SEEMS canon suggests Henry got HIS powers thanks to be able to somehow connect with the MF or rather it connecting with him.  Now on top of all this we know its been HEAVILY implied Brenner knew WAY more about the upside down than he ever let on. That Brenner may have even DISCOVERED the Upside Down or something FROM the UD going as far back as when he was participating in MK ultra and decided to spend his time looking for ways to somehow get contact/access to the UD and/or what was in it. 

You know what the big goal of MK ultra was? It was to create a “mind control” drug. The US government wanted a way to mind control people. From an article on MK ultra: 

"Gottlieb wanted to create a way to seize control of people's minds, and he realized it was a two-part process," Kinzer says. "First, you had to blast away the existing mind. Second, you had to find a way to insert a new mind into that resulting void. We didn't get too far on number two, but he did a lot of work on number one."

So, you know how the mindflayer was literally named the mindflayer because it has the ability to “consume” and control the mind?  So I would say it is possible that Brenner worked out that Hawkins in particular was a place on Earth were the barrier between worlds was thin, hence the lab being there. Brenner eventually abducted Henry, because Henry was the “original psychic,” who had somehow ‘communed’ with the "the thing” that was out there, on the other side of the barrier and thus could be the key to getting access to the Upside Down and whatever it was that was in it. That, largely because of Henry, Brenner realized something out there existed and was MUCH bigger than some silly mind control drug? Entire other dimensions that may be house to incomprehensible eldritch entities? God like beings? Who could give humans powers? Which is why Brenner began his own experiments. Imo this would all seem to add up and appears very suggested by canon. I need to make a proper timeline of Brenner’s activities actually, I should work on doing that.   But yeah.. I feel like the MF is def sentient, but what level of intelligence it has is still kind of questionable. But if it is as intelligent as it seems it would have to be to start reaching out to humans like Henry, if that is in fact what the canon is suggesting, does it feel compelled to attack the human world because it felt challenged by humans first-- did it feel like humans were invading on it and taking FROM it, OR if is just malevolent and humans just made the dumb mistake of trying to meddle with what they don't understand and ended up bumping into an actual evil god that hasn’t taken too kindly to this. Just some thoughts.

Mint Condition 14x04

If you follow me on the tweety you’ll know that I made a pathetic attempt at a full season re-watch starting in like… September. I got as far as the end of S5 before S15 began, but given my severe case of swiss cheese brain I decided to pause the full series re-watch there and pick up at 14x01. I figured it’ll be faster to get through S14 for a refresher and then go back to S6. Shut up my logic makes sense to me.  ANYwho, Mint Condition is probably my second favorite episode of S14 and definitely an overall series stand out for me - even tho I did have terrible nightmares after the first time I watched it. That fuckin dummy was goddamn terrifying and my subconscious was REALLY GODDAMNED SURE he was going to kill me in my sleep. I’m happy to report i had zero issues sleeping after watching it this time. :) Altho watch I just jinxed myself, since I am gonna watch again as I write this to pull quotes and screens.  You can tell I’ve been looking up recipes cuz theres a massive intro nobody gives a shit about before I get to the point of the post. NEVER FEAR! The good bits are under the cut. 

Let me just start by pointing out that while I do believe that Stuart is a mirror for Cas, The whole toxic fanboy/incel/chan troll shtick isnt reflective of Cas as a person in the way we (I) would normally judge someone like that.  I’m not sure if it’s because Davy actually sympathizes with and sees no harms in humanizing those people, or if it was for the fun of playing with a character like that, but there certainly are some parallels there - in the sense that even within his own community he’s  a misfit, rebellious, and argumentative. either way, the trench coat is pretty damning. 

Girl Sam comments that the store had been left to her and Dirk, but Stuart had been fired twice, the previous owner kept catching him stealing. But they hired him back because “he’s my friend”. That forgiveness, Stuart’s bad choices and lack of ‘impulse control’ it’s all reflective of Cas, even though it paints Cas in an unnecessarily negative light, on the surface it’s arguable but not entirely wrong. When Stuart pulls out the Panthro toy, his response is: “so angry, so handsome” and damn if that doesnt describe Dean lol.The fact that the first thing we see him do is steal this handsome, angry figure from the place it was sent is just another Dean detail. 

Hey you know who else got stabbed in the gut like that and almost died?

These two are the strongest mirror in the ep. Bonding over candy, shared fashion sense and a love of horror flicks, Dirk tells Dean (those names) that he wants to ‘watch over’ Stuart while he is unconscious, and that despite his rough edges, Stuart has been there for him, giving him a place to crash and escape his shitty father. Which, I mean, this is heavy handed as fuck, presumably to make sure the GA doesn’t miss it, but seriously all this kid needs is an American classic muscle car and a love of Led Zeppelin. 

This where I 

curse my inability to gif because it’s the sublest of moments here but when Dirk asks Dean which of the All Saints Day movies is his favorite, Dean throws a quick glance over his shoulder, as if to make sure nobody is listening. He’s so used to hiding this side of himself, the nerd, the fanboy, that even though he’s a grown ass man that regularly kills supernatural evils, he instinctively looks around real quick to make sure he won’t get caught having this conversation. It’s heartbreaking, and I think, attributable entirely to Jensen - but that’s entirely spec on my part. He does this three times in this scene, before finally getting comfortable and enjoying Dirk’s company. Jesus you’d think he was engaging in some kind of elicit trade the way he’s got his head on a swivel. Poor thing. 

“growing up it was always nice to check out for while… I like to watch movies where I know the bad guys’s gonna lose.” Dean’s preferred method of escapism is relatable, sure, but  he’s also point blank telling us right here, WHY he’s been hiding out in his room watching these movies, he’s self-soothing. He’s just revealed that he was awake and drowning the entire time he was possessed by Michael, he doesn’t know why he was ‘released’ but he knows he came home to find a ‘house full of strangers’. The fact that his self care at this point is pizza, beer and movies the way he did as a kid rather than cheap whiskey, the way we’ve seen him do as an adult, probably speaks volumes to how actually affected he really is.  

Dean being the one to wrestle with the father figure - the owner of the store who taught them everything they know before his death, leaving them the business to run and then possessing the lifesize figure of a mechanic who’d been literally burned in order to get revenge on the one who’d been stealing from them - I hate the idea of a John vs Cas parallel and I don’t think it was intended to go that deep, but there’s no denying a paralell between the ghost of Jordan and John.  

The thread on these two, in my opinion, is a little thin. Beyond the ‘ha ha Sam’s a girl’ joke, and their shared science nerd bit here, the main thing really is that even though the store was left to Sam AND Dirk, it seems like Sam is the defacto leader. She’s the one we see dealing with the incoming delivery, she’s the one behind the counter, and she’s the one who called Stuart to call him out on their one star yelp review. At this point in the season, Sam Winchester is the defacto leader of the new hunter collective he’s inadvertently assembled by way of rescue hunters from Apocalypse World. She also demonstrates Sam’s usual ‘lore’ skills, figuring out that it’s the keys that the ghost is most likely tied to, and finding a chemical in the morgue to use as an accelerant to help rescue Dean. That’s literally all I’ve got on them two. 

This is random, but the significance of that poster has been bugging me since the live airing of this ep. I do not understand that reference and it’s driving me bonkers, so if anyone does, PLEASE TELL ME. 

🙃 I really hope I don’t have nightmares tonight. That mask on the dummy is fucking horrible.

1. What Station on the Ark would you be from?

I like to think Farm, I love plants! But also maybe Polaris, because getting caught up in someone else’s drama and then dying offscreen is probably about how my TV life would go. 

2. What would you get arrested for on the Ark?

...making an inappropriate joke about treason? this is based off the fact that I once made a joke about overthrowing the government whilst touring Parliament and did NOT notice the policeman behind me.

3. Would you take off your wristband when you landed on the ground?

 my mum thinks I’m dead if she sees I don’t reply to her texts within five minutes so i’m gonna say no because i hate worrying people lmao

4 What would the necklace Finn would make for you look like? (Clarke: deer/Raven: a raven duh..)

i have so much dragonfly stuff, so probably that! i don’t even know where that came from, but it seems fitting.

5. If you could resurrect any MINOR character who would it be?

100% maya vie, the revolution queen always and forever! though she is not minor in my Heart

6. Create a squad of 5 characters to go on missions with. Who are they?

Bellamy, Monty, Raven, Abby, Indra! Between them they cover our bases of leadership, plants, machines, medicine, and general badassery

Shallow Valley looked like exactly the kind of place I’d like :)

9. Thoughts on Finn? Some people hate him, and others love him, so I’m curious

i’m not gonna sing his praises, but i think he’s more complex than some people give him credit for.  he did terrible things, but i’m never gonna get behind the grounder agenda of spending hours torturing a child to death. i recognise that this is entirely bonkers to say in the universe of the 100, but that dude should have had a fair trial

10. Be honest. How willing would you have been to take the chip without knowing all the horrible things it does?

i wouldn’t do it! also i have trouble with pills, there’s no way i’m dry swallowing that massive hunk of plastic

11. What character do you relate to most?

monty!! i have also watched people i love deeply fall apart, and his struggles in season 4 really resonate with me. but on a lighter note, i also relate to his sense of humour and his deep seated need to snark at people. and eating leaves.

12. What character do you like the least?

i’m gonna go with Cage Wallace, because fuck that guy. he’s just smarmy, it annoys me lmao

13. Describe your delinquent outfit. (Would you wear something like Murphy’s jacket with the spikey red shoulder patch or have a trademark like Jasper’s goggles? Be creative, yet practical)

i would probably have a pretty normal shirt and a thick jumper. i like yellow, but that probably wouldn’t fare so well with hiding in the woods and such so i’m gonna go with a dark green. that + trousers + my trusty walking boots.

14. Favourite type of mutant animal?

the glowing butterflies are pretty great!

15. What would your job be on the Ark?

probably counselling or something? i can’t imagine i’d be very high up, but probably with people a lot, i’m no good with machines

yeah but my face would be like D: the whole time

17. If Lexa wasn’t Heda, but she was still alive then who would have made the best commander?

Indra’s my go-to! she has experience, she’s level-headed, she’s respected, and clearly a strong fighter. i would follow her into war is what i’m saying here

i’d probably get loud and just start talking over people and offering opinions that no one asked for then fall asleep

i’d never have turned her away from the camp, but she definitely wouldn’t get away with it scot-free and i’d probably keep her away from the others to keep her and everyone else safe

jake griffin :’) he has a strong code of ethics, he’s smart, and he’s kind

21. Would you have been on Pike’s side like Bellamy or on Kane’s side? Or Clarke in Polis?

Kane’s, but probably somewhat removed from the drama

i feel like i should say their advanced medical supplies, but i’d probably just take the iPod tbh! love me some music and i know maya had good taste

i looooove those winding tattoos that go all around arms and legs like vines, so maybe something like that? and my hair is pretty short so i’d probably wear it as it is, but maybe add tiny braids. as for war paint, i can’t be bothered to do regular makeup so i don’t know if i’d even do it. minimal if anything.

24. Favorite quote?

“My mom was the revolutionary. I’m just trying to make things right.” It’s Maya lovin’ hours! i don’t know why, i just really like this one. i’m not sure it’s my favourite, but i can’t think of anything else right now

Octavia, but only if someone else killed Bellamy, she’d never do it

i like to think i’d be the leader of some cool underground revolution, but publicly i’d follow her because she’s terrifying. i think i’d read and write and sleep a lot

the100!tabby is gonna follow monty everywhere, let’s be real. i like to think we’d get on. as for most difficult...i’m not good at reaching out to people, so it would probably be a while before i ended up close with echo purely by virtue of neither of us ever starting a conversation

oh god, not long at all. i have zero survival skills, i’d starve. madi would have to parent ME

probably reveal myself and make it very clear i am in no way a threat- i’m not clarke griffin, i’m 5′4, unarmed, and i look like i’m made of noodles

thumb drives in bullet holes- the worms are much worse

yeah i’d do it, but i’d hate it. i’d try to avoid killing her, but if she needs to be incapacitated, then i’d do it for the safety of everyone else

probably sleep, i’m not sure i could handle that life in isolation

45. Who are you waking up first to explore the new planet?

more or less the same lot. i’d actually wake Gaia too, she’s the Flamekeeper and might know some helpful hints about flame culture and stuff. she certainly knows the history.
