Sirius had spent the last few weeks in what felt like panic mode. As February rolled over into March, he almost could feel like himself again at work. He’d only cried on Florean a few times in all this, but he had always managed to pull himself back together enough to finish a shift, even when his eyes were red-rimmed. Perhaps because of that or just because Florean looked out for him, any day that Sirius had asked for, he’d immediately gotten off work. Today hadn’t been asked for; it had been a nice bonus. Resting at home had sounded awful, so Sirius made the decision that he wasn’t going to be himself today.

He’d apparated to the McKinnon Farm and wasted no time at all in transforming before anyone saw him. He trotted down the hall, surprised not to find anyone and eventually flopped down in a patch of sun. He’d thought today might be more interesting.

When he heard someone coming, Sirius sat up, but he stayed still a moment as Annalise Fawley of all people entered the room. He didn’t know what to think of her. If Sirius had been asked to play nice with Death Eaters after James’ death, he couldn’t have done it. He had a hard enough time serving suspected Death Eaters at work. But for now he just sat and cocked his head, wondering what she was doing here and what she wanted.
