Some shots from Lost Island Theme Park’s first Island Night. The park will be open until 9:30 on Fridays and Saturdays in July and the first weekend of August (when downtown Waterloo holds its annual Iowa Irish Festival. The park itself will be offering free parking to anyone with Irish Fest wristbands/tickets for said weekend)

My crappy Volkanu POV from Day One. Just the ride, the audio on the videos I took of the preshow and queue areas were pretty terrible with the Canon Powershot I used.

The Ora Tika Idol sealing away the fire demon Volkanu was stolen by thieves that were cursed into becoming stone guardians hiding it away. With a Tamariki guiding your Thermal Blaster armed vehicle through the Mura Realm, grab the Idol first and blast your way through Volkanu’s army of lava monsters to restore the idol to its proper place in the Temple of Fire and seal the great calamity again.

Iowa’s Lost Island has started its 2023 season and they are selling pocket dictionaries for Aukipi, the park’s conlang. This is the most amazingly nerdy theme park souvenir I’ve ever purchased, perfectly catered to some of my specific tastes like the rest of the park. Well worth five dollars, especially when Disney did something like this but nickel and dimed you with their Avatar Na’vi Language trading cards and card reader.

Some lore notes:

As you can see on the cover, Auk Modu is Lost Island’s proper name

There are five 2-2 1/2 month long seasons on the island consisting of Nuna, the season of darkness associated with the Tamariki, Yom, the windy season associated with the Udarans, Voltariz, the dry heat season associated with the Mura, Bakati, the rainy season associated with the Awa, and Galti, the harvest season associated with the Yuta.

It’s pretty heavily telegraphed in a Lore spread that the fire demon Volkanu was once a mysterious banished Tamariki named Kanu.

Lumina with her Windicator, an air manipulating wand generally used by cosmogemists, members of Udara's mystic sect that played a role in trapping Volkanu the first time. While Udara's technology could generally be described as steampunk, there's a bit of a magitech side to it in that cosmogemy played a role in developing the gravity defying metal alloy "Udarinium" they want to use in rebuilding their floating city and of course, the crystal powered Thermal Equalizers in the Volkanu attraction essentially being a gun-shaped windicator that can harness the power of all four elements.

Windicators were also one of the items the Island Emporium giftshop introduced this year.

The Akua Maze splashpad and its Lazuli Orb serves as the interactive play centerpiece for the Awa Realm. 

Within the Adventure Guide app storyline, the Lazuli Orb provides the water elemental power for the Thermal Equalizers in the Volkanu attraction.
