Ok so what are those lil floaty things around you in some scenes? they look vaguely Vodun/Voodoo(now sure how you spell it sorry)
Like some of the symbols you see associated with Marie Lavu
Tumblr media
"You mean these~?"
Tumblr media
"Why, that is because I am a Vodouisant, my dear~ I practiced Vodou when I was a mortal, and I still do. I am still in communication with the Lwa, so, pardon the reference, one could say that I have friends on the other side~
Marie Laveau was known as the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans. So you are not off by any means~
The practice has many names. Voodoo, Vodou, Vodun, Vudu.. It is but a matter of where you are from, one supposes.
I hope that this was a sufficient answer for you~"

Just been talking with some friends and we ended by chatting about this, and I just wanted to gather more data (not gonna share our thoughts until the poll is over so as to not mess with it.)
*celebrate is defined as 'do you exchange gifts & hang out with loved ones' NOT do you go to church/believe in Jesus/practise Christianity
** also I this poll is bias towards countries that have 25th Dec as a bank holiday
(There were gonne be more options, and 11 was split into 2 but I ran out of answer space)
If you would be okay with sharing more info, I would love to know in the tags: your answer & what country you are from (and anything else you'd like to add)

Marie Laveau was one of the wisest women that ever lived. She was gifted with a power from on high that very few people are gifted with. She could look at you without ever having seen you before and tell you where you were born, what hour you were born and the time, and also the condition of the weather if you wanted to know that. She was, in a way, to me another Solomon, sent from the Almighty God above to come down here and help his people. I also picture her as a John De Baptist who comes to teach right and righteousness. This woman that I am telling you about prayed not three times a day as Daniel did but prayed every hour in the day that our Heavenly Father sent. I picture her as one chosen by God’s own hand. She was not selfish, but waited on the Black as well as the White, and the rich as well as the poor. Doing all the good stuff she could. And never doing any harm to anybody. ~Old Man George Nelson, 1936
Marie Laveau possesses an enduring magick as the preeminent witch queen, Voodoo Queen, and heavenly Saint in New Orleans. Her style of Voodoo encapsulates all the mystery, glamour, and power every witch, folk magic practitioner, and Vodouisant longs for. And let’s face it, witches love pretty things - shiny black mirrors and crystals and stones, beautiful tarot cards, and gold embossed velvet bags in which to keep them. We love the smell of incense, flowers, and perfumes as much as the aroma of a healing chicken soup on the kitchen stove. Living a tradition that is, in its very essence, natural, harmonious, and exquisitely beautiful, we see the allure in what others may deem profane. In The Marie Laveau Voodoo Grimoire, I continue where The Magic of Marie Laveau left off. This book is a working grimoire geared towards the modern witch and conjure worker that provides spells, advice, formulas, and recipes for solving the problems of daily living and enhancing quality of life in the most magickal of ways.

The splatters from the other page practically begged me to make them into some of Brigid’s freckles.
Brighid/Brig is an ancient Irish goddess associated with fire, among other things, and renowned with many blessings from protection to poetry. The most ancient surviving texts recounting her to this day describe her having two sisters of the same name, Brighid the Smith, associated with metalworks in both weaponry and jewelry, and Brighid the Healer, associated with herbalism and song. This has led to Brighid being hailed as a Triple Goddess in her ancient form. ☘️
Indeed the triplicate of Brigid seems to have transformed along with the Irish diaspora following Catholicism and English oppression. St. Brighid appeared in Ireland under the rule of the Catholic Church, most likely another example of Christianizing pagan figures as seen cross culturally. The Feast of St. Brighid coincides with the ancient Celtic pagan late winter festival of Imbolc on the first of February after all.
Among the African diaspora in the Caribbean, where English colonists sent both enslaved Africans and indentured Irish servants to work sugar and other plantations, revered loa of the Voudun pantheon from West Africa were famously hidden within icons of Catholic saints. It is within this particular tradition that Mama Brigitte is found with her flaming red hair, having been married into the Ghede Spirit family to Baron Samedi, syncretized with St. Brighid. Her feast day varies among Vodouisants from coinciding with Imbolc or All Saints Day, which is also when Dia de los Muertos (as a result of the colonial church) is on November 2nd. Still many acknowledge that Mama Brigette came from Ireland. With this consideration of the origins of Samedi’s bride, their union is representative of the legacy of Irish and African history under European colonial exploitations- we Irish descendants practicing paganism today may do well to remember this manifestation of blessed, vibrant, poetic, protective Brighid’s triplicity in solidarity against the exploitations of empires that go on to this day. ❤️‍🔥

I like these posts that are like "women were once medicine woman". Its cute but Black women never stopped doing those things. Indigenous women never stopped doing those things. Even in our darkest oppression, there were many Obeah Women, Mambos, Vodouisants, Priestesses, Benzedeiras, Curanderas, Doulas, Mãe-de-santos, Shamans and so on.
We have many many Diaspora traditions from Santeria, Umbanda, Espiritismo, Vodou and so on.
Just being real. We never stopped.
I also have thoughts on people constantly saying ancient magic doesn't matter nor do correspondences because they may be ashamed of their history or feel they can't study healing arts because they can't connect to the ancient world. Sometimes respect and acknowledgement is all that matters. A lot of people lack respect..

The Three Kings Day Luck Baths.
Tumblr media
Bon fet Twa Rwa/happy Three Kings day! This is the time of year where vodouizan traditionally bathe for good luck and prosperity in the coming year. While a good luck bath can be taken at any time, doing it around Epiphany is quite traditional– in Vodou and Hoodoo.
Christmas baths have had a minute to settle *and* it is a very hot time of year to work for luck. While Simbi walks with the Three Kings and is known for his hot, HOT bath making, Ezili Danto, Ezili Freda, and numerous other spirits are also heavily involved in the making and administration of the good luck bath.
Haitian Vodou maintains several traditions from an older Catholic standpoint than our majority modern culture; The Feast of Three Kings, otherwise known as the Epiphany.
In old Catholic tradition, the Epiphany is the commemoration of the day the Wise Men from the East arrived to gift the infant Jesus with their presents of Frankincense, Gold, and Myrrh; this date is the reason we give Christmas gifts… it’s just drifted over time to something we do *on* Christmas instead of a celebration of Twelfth Night. Vodouisants work the Christmas Baths for breaking up the last years. Where there was once negativity, there’s now an energetic hole where the negative used to be…. so we complete the circuit by performing blessings that fill the space where the negativity once sat.
For New Years, this becomes a special Good Luck bath priests make for their community, This one is a bit simpler in process when compared to the cleansing bath from a few weeks ago, but no less effective.
For this particular recipe, you’ll want the following:
Pleasant and warming spices: Cinnamon sticks, star anise, ginger, cloves, allspice, etc.
Fresh Basil.
A little bit of your favourite perfume/cologne, or a small bottle of a sweet scented perfume or rose water.
A touch of sugar (like half a teaspoon or so, just a little bit)
A tiny bit of milk, like a splash equalling a couple teaspoons or so.
Brightly colored and fragrant flowers (roses are pretty much all most of us in the States can get that fit the bill this time of year, but roses are great for this. Select bright and pleasant colors)
Begin by taking a good cleansing shower or bath to clean the body. Light a white candle and announce to your spirits that you’re making a good luck bath for the coming year.
Say your opening prayers to center and bless your space, and ask the Three Kings to bring their gifts to you.
Simmer the spices in a saucepan full of water; you'll want the liquid to be able to cool in a fair amount of time so don’t set it all the way to boil, just a light simmer to pull the goodness out of the spices.
When they’re good and fragrant, turn off the burner and let them cool for a bit.
Pour the liquid into your bath basin and add any water you may need to increase the liquid level in the bowl/basin. Add the sugar, the milk, and the perfume, and then the basil. Rub the basil, until the leaves have all been worked and the perfume pervades the bath liquid.
While you’re working the leaves, talk to the bath about what you want it to bring you in the coming year; happiness, blessings of good health and prosperity, etc. Talk to it, nurture it, and call those blessings into being while you work the liquid.
Take your blossoms and strip the petals and add them into the water, and crunch them with your hands, focusing on transferring their wonderful energy into it.
To take the bath, carry the bath basin to your shower and bring the candle; as long as the candle is lit, Spirit is present and working with you.
This bath is swept UP the body, from the feet up (and you can get this one on your head; Splash in it; revel in it (it’s quite a heady experience and smells *divine*) When you’re done bathing, allow the bath to air dry (DO NOT WIPE IT OFF) and change into comfortable clean and white bedclothes.
Epiphany, January 6th, is the day the Wise Men arrived to present their gifts to the infant Jesus… what better day to present ourselves with a years worth of Good Luck and blessings!

One of my mutuals posted an excerpt from Faces of the Gods: Vodou and Roman Catholicism in Haiti. Contrasting with notions of “belief,” the book says:
Vodouisants cannot afford the self-surrender of mysticism, nor can they permit themselves the luxury of an idealism that seeks to mask the miseries and frustrations of their existence. Their needs are too immediate for that. Their religion must satisfy actual needs rather than merely invite them to high-flown intellectual exercises of theology.
The more I think about this, the more frustrated I get.
The idea of a god or godlike entity who can ruin lives and never be ruined in turn is the closest thing in my brain to Lovecraftian knowledge. I simply can’t cope with it. My functioning requires me to insist that everyone has at least some possible way they can be defeated. So that’s what I imagine is the sort of thing going on in people’s heads when they talk about religion satisfying “actual needs.” They need it to function in the same way I need the concept of defeat to function.
I think Christians, and other folks whose religions involve “belief,” are just as prone to this sort of need. And I think saying they don’t have it is a way of devaluing them. “They don’t really need it, but I do! They just have ‘the luxury of an idealism,’ but what I have matters!”
What’s more, I think this is part of a pattern among a certain brand of leftist. In general, they frame the things white people* want or believe as inherently childish compared the things other racial groups want or believe, even when they want or believe the exact same things. Like that whole business about “white atheism” that pops up every now and then, where white people are atheists for reasons that don’t really matter, whereas other folks are atheists for reasons that do really matter. I find it ironically childish in its own right, because it cedes agency. “White people have the ability to give up these unimportant things, whereas we have no such ability and no choice but to cling onto everything we have.”
*I say “white people,” but the pattern seems to be that if you have membership in a particular minority, you consider that minority to not be part of the “white people” blob, even if you consider other minorities to be “white people.” Like if you’re disabled, you think of the “white people” blob as only containing abled people, but you may or may not think gay people can be “white.”

Ezili Dantor is part of the Ezili (Erzulie) family of loa in Haitian Vodou. She can be fierce, aggressive, temperamental, and hard to deal with at times. Though, she is also a very nurturing loa as Erzulie Dantor is the protector of children, abused and scorned women, and prostitutes. Due to her role in assisting with the liberation of the Haitian people, she is often referred to as the Patroness of the Haitian Revolution. Join Vodouisant Ritchy Thermidor and Dr. Asanee Brogan in this episode as we discuss this very important deity in the Haitian Vodou pantheon.

Fashion Scam Exposed: The Unraveling Tale of Petra Berg’s Deception and Fraud
Tumblr media
In a shocking revelation, Petra Berg, the now owner of the fashion brand BERYLL that had success and recognition in the 90’s and early 2000. Petra Berg is also a self-proclaimed advocate for women’s empowerment. On her website My-Bodhi.com Petra Berg sells everything she can make money of. The light of truth does not make Petra Berg look good. From overpriced esoteric gimmicks, Tarot readers, psychic readers to Vodouisant. Petra Berg knows them all, and certainly doesn’t use these shady connections to help other people, as she declares, but solely to harm and take advantage of others .
The saga unfolding shows a convoluted network of deception aimed at exploiting gullible customers, all orchestrated under the guise of offering high-quality designer goods at discounted prices. Petra Berg is also the owner of the fashion brand MILA where she claims even in the name of the brand “Made In Los Angeles”, that it is produced in the USA. Further investigations showed that Petra Berg nor any of her companies have a California Garment Registration Certificate. It is illegal to operate a garment business without first obtaining a garment registration from the state labor commissioner’s office. If you operate without a valid certificate of registration, you will be subject to civil or criminal penalties. Research showed that none of the outlets Petra Berg claims to sell do even know her or any of her brands.
Also none of the celebrities that she is promoting on her homepages and in the Today Show sales know any of her brands or Petra herself.
Investigations reveal that Petra Berg, who posed as a seasoned designer, had no formal training in design. Instead, she lifted designs from reputable fashion houses, sent them overseas for cheap reproduction, and smuggled them into the US under false declarations. She then peddled these counterfeit goods on popular platforms like the Today Show, misleading consumers into believing they were purchasing genuine high-end products. Shocking enough the investigation showed that the Today Show host Gil Martin is absolutely aware of the fact that the Today show is selling those countrified made up brands to the Today show clients as it is reported that Gil Martin is given kick back money from the brands listed on the Today Show.
Diving deeper into this web of deceit, it’s clear that Petra Berg’s actions are part of a larger scheme
involving a cohort of individuals driven solely by greed, with no regard for the customers they were swindling. The original founder and creator of the Beryll brand, was resolute in their decision to maintain distance from the brand’s current owner and their questionable business practices.
Beryll Reviews: Stan G.
on Birdeye
Today Show Deal from 11.22.20 was an alleged $698 cashmere wrap for an amazing $89! Jill Martin couldn’t say enough good things about this item, so I ordered one for my wife for Christmas. It only took 2 months to get delivered! Worse than that it’s a cheap piece of shit! If it is truly cashmere its about as flimsy as possible, and it might be a wrap for a 10 year old not an adult! Unfortunately I now find out that there are no returns/exchanges or refunds! So I’m out $106+ I plan on raising hell with NBC and the Today Show for two things, 1) promoting crap like this (is Jill Martin) being compensated for sales?? ; 2) they need to more boldly state that items are a ONE WAY SALE.
Adding to the intrigue, Petra Berg recently painted herself as a messianic figure for women worldwide, claiming to possess the solutions to their adversities. Her self-spun narrative traces back to a fabricated rags-to-riches story, where she rose from being a small-town journalist to a purported self-made business magnate in Los Angeles. Research even showed that she was working for the former Austrian treasury minister Karl Grasser who was sentenced to 8 years in jail for corruption. Until the end of this corrupt politicians career, Petra Berg helped to camouflage his crimes. Despite the truth she claims to have founded various fashion brands and to come out of a linage of fashion dynasty. Investigations under Petra’s maiden name Petra Pichler from a small town in Austria, revealed that the only connection to fashion in her family was a small low end fashion retail store in an outdated shoping mall.
However, the facade crumbles under scrutiny. Behind the scenes, Berg’s life is far from the polished persona she projects. Struggling with alcohol addiction and a tumultuous personal life marked by being a frustrated and angry woman that got divorced by her husband and lost custody of her children based on the public court records. Her actions reek of desperation rather than empowerment. At this point none of the sources is willing to come forward as Petra Berg threatens everyone that speaks up with lawsuits or even physical harm as she did to a former best friend that has video evidence of her criminal operation.
Now residing in Los Angeles, a stark contrast to her native Austria, Petra Berg attempted to reinvent herself yet again, exaggerating her success to anyone who would listen. Despite her claims of aiding other women, it seems Petra Berg’s actions were driven by self-interest, leaving a trail of deception and disillusionment in her wake.
The unfolding story of Petra Berg serves as a cautionary tale, revealing a sinister underbelly of fraud and exploitation lurking beneath the glamorous facade of the fashion industry.

Haitian Vodou[a] is an African diasporic religion that developed in Haiti between the 16th and 19th centuries. It arose through a process of syncretism between several traditional religions of West and Central Africa and Roman Catholicism. There is no central authority in control of the religion and much diversity exists among practitioners, who are known as Vodouists, Vodouisants, or Serviteurs. Vodou revolves around spirits known as /wa. Typically deriving their names and attributes from traditional West and Central African divinities, they are equated with Roman Catholic saints.
The Iwa divide up into different groups, the nanchon ("nations"), most notably the Rada and the Petwo. Various myths and stories are told about these Iwa, which are regarded as subservient to a transcendent creator deity, Bondye. This theology has been labelled both monotheistic and polytheistic. An initiatory tradition, Vodouists usually meet to venerate the Iwa in an ounfo (temple), run by an oungan (priest) or manbo (priestess). A central ritual involves practitioners drumming, singing, and dancing to encourage a wa to possess one of their members and thus communicate with them. Offerings to the la include fruit, liquor, and sacrificed animals. Offerings are also given to the spirits of the dead. Several forms of divination are utilized to decipher messages as CLONES

Something about your portrayal that sticks out: I think you're the only Alastor I've come across that REALLY leans into the whole voodoo vibe, funnily enough. This is coming from someone that WRITES Alastor, too.
What is something about my portrayal[s] that sticks out?
Tumblr media
//I'm really happy to know that people actually notice that! Seeing as I'm a vodouisant myself, I thought that using my knowledge on the subject was appropriate. I quite enjoy that I can have Alastor use the knowledge, and even go on smaller rants about something related to Vodou.
I'm also really happy to know that this is something that sticks out to people. <3

Voodoo Healing Practice
The idea that Voodoo involves evil arts such as human sacrifice, dolls, and magic spells has been reinforced by popular culture. However, the preconceptions surrounding religion are untrue for people who follow it. Voodoo healing incorporates elements of conventional Catholicism along with West African indigenous religions. Enslaved people brought Voodoo, primarily practiced in Haiti, to Louisiana in the 1700s. It developed due to syncretism between several West and Central African traditional faiths and Roman Catholicism.
A single body does not govern the religion, and its adherents, often referred to as Vodouists, Vodouisants, or Serviteurs, are very diverseor and have many Vodou gods. Vodou is centered on spirits called lwa or voodoo loa of healing. Voodoo healers are compared to Roman Catholic saints because they frequently take their names and characteristics from traditional West and Central African voodoo gods.
