“Is someone out here?” Lance’s head pokes through the sliding doors that open with a quiet woosh.

Keith hadn’t heard them open. He’s staring at the dry blood on his hand, focused on the pounding beat of his heart in the broken bridge of his nose. Blurry glimpses of Shiro jump in front of his eyes; covered in blood, eyes closed and at peace, fighting for his life, dying for it.

He’d break his own nose over and over again until it would never sit right again if it meant Shiro’s hand would sit approvingly on his right shoulder one more time.

“Guess not,” Lance murmurs, and the doors slide shut. “That’s fine—Jesus, Keith! Make a sound or something!”
