Der Leichnam Christi im Grabe, Hans Holbein der Jüngere, 1521/22

"Das Gemälde wirkte auf viele Betrachter mit einer Mischung aus Faszination und Schock und wurde bis ins 19. Jahrhundert hinein immer wieder nachgeahmt. 1867 soll der Anblick den russischen Dichter Dostojewski im Basler Kunstmuseum an den Rand eines epileptischen Anfalls gebracht haben. Später verarbeitete Dostojewski die Episode in seinem Roman Der Idiot, wo er einen der Protagonisten beim Anblick einer Kopie des Gemäldes sagen lässt, Der Leichnam Christi im Grabe habe die Kraft, den Glauben auszulöschen." Here's the lutebook by Vincenzo Capirola, 1478 - 1548.

In the preface of this book, it's noted how the drawings were meant to prevent the loss of the book in case it would for some reasons end in hands of people who don't know how to read a lute tablature, due to the beauty of the drawings. Down here I report the preface, in Italian, where this is reported.

"Considerando io Vidal che molte divine operete per ignorantia deli possessori si sono perdute, et desiderando che questo libro quasi divino per me scritto perpetuamente si conservase, ho volesto di così nobil pictura ornarlo, acio che venendo ale mano di alchuno che manchasse di tal cognizione, per la bellezza di la pictura lo conservasse"

This is an upcoming project, from the Capirola lute book. Compiled in 1520, it's a rare case of a surviving music manuscript. Most of our sixteenth century music comes from published sources, when one or two copies might survive from a run of 500-1000. This is the only copy of this source, and it survives because Capirola's student, Vitale, purposefully had it illuminated so that it would be kept as an object of art and not discarded by successive owners. I have a certain affinity with the composer, Vincenzo Capirola. I accidentally duplicated his biography when I came up with my SCA persona, the story I inhabit when I attend medieval events sponsored by the Society for Creative Anachronism. That story involves a minor nobleman named Vincenzo from the northern-Italian city of Brescia who spent time in the court of King Henry VIII, and while I go by the name of Vincenzo da Brescia so, too, could Capirola have done (the other bits of my persona name are less coincidental and are an homage to my immigrant forebears). The piece itself jumps out at me because it looks to be readily adaptable to dulcimer. My biggest weakness is that I have three octaves and two hands, but this piece is a fairly straightforward melody with only a slight second musical voicing. I think it will be a lot of fun to play, and I look forward to bringing it to life!

Si parte giovedì 5 gennaio col party Rehab the best hip hop in town, che metterà in console come dj guest insieme al Soundsystem la brava Elisa Bee. Protagonista da tempo della scena milanese e non solo (è nata in Sardegna), è specializzata in beat di qualità, a cavallo tra i diversi generi. Produce Babylon, programma radiofonico di RadioDue, spesso pubblica musica su etichette discografiche di culto come Fool's Gold, Enchufada e Booty Call Records.

Venerdì 6 l'evento al Circus beatclub di Brescia è Circus Micasa, il 'classico' evento Circus che apre il weekend con stile. Sabato 7 gennaio invece si balla con Relife One Night With #Us. In console entrambe le sere il solido staff Circus guidato Brio alla voce e DR. Space in console. Una nuova vita, che con l'inizio dell'anno segna un cambiamento, una base per ricominciare il proprio cammino… L'evento è una anche una festa per gli studenti dell'istituto Vincenzo Capirola (Leno - Ghedi).
