In the Shadow of the Mountain the not-story of Smoke Ridge.

I live in a town called Smoke Ridge. The campus is called Alvin Schwartz University, apparently named after some Civil War “hero”. Note the quotations.

There’s a stone plaque engraved in the wall of the Campus Center here... it reads “In the Shadow of the Mountain”. Presumably, it’s referring to the Smoky Mountains surrounding our school... but couldn’t they have chosen a less ominous phrase?

Whoever heard of a tourist trap without tourists? There’s always a new roadside attraction opening up nearby, but you never see any new people. There’s no way any of this is viable.

That new math building shouldn’t be this hard to navigate... from the outside it’s just a giant box... but the slope it was built on just makes things way more complicated than it should be. All the hallways should just loop out onto themselves, but somehow I always wind up on the wrong floor in the wrong room. 

One perk of being the oldest building on campus is that you also happen to hold the longest running active morgue in all of East Tennessee. It’s kinda weird to think that Premed students are working in a room that once housed dead Confederate soldiers.

Also... there’s a freezer that’s just hanging out between offices... I kinda hope it’s not related to the morgue, considering how often I have to pass it every day.

Stein and MacHale Hall are joined in the stupidest way possible. The second floor of Stein connects to the first floor of MacHale. Supposedly, the place is haunted by the ghost of some kid who never got the memo, and now he’s doomed to forever wander those halls looking for a class in the wrong building.

I find myself working really late at the DMC across from campus all the time... I’m never alone. There’s always night owls also working on their next big project and keeping themselves awake with a steady diet of Mountain Dew and Ramen noodles. No big surprise there. That said, I’m still curious to know what exactly the deal is with the same three students who wander outside at night, never going anywhere in particular.

One night I came home late. Right as I reached my dorm, some kid ran past me. I didn’t think anything of it. An hour later, my roommate comes enters my room in a panic. A kid was stabbed over drugs in a gazebo nearby. 

A friend of mine keeps getting headaches and complains about someone singing. Another friend of mine deals with Ham radio stuff... her equipment keeps picking up some kind of rogue signal with no real source. I don’t like jumping to conclusions, but I can’t help but think these two things are related.

You know, they shot the Evil Dead here... it’s part of the local lore and everything. The house has since burned down, but you can still find its chimney if you look hard enough.

The theatre troupe has this bi-monthly tradition of holding not-so-secret drum circles somewhere in or around town... they rely purely on word of mouth, with no posters or official announcements or anything. This year... they’re holding it at some obscure watering hole a few miles away. There’s no GPS or internet or anything over there.

Truth is often stranger than fiction, and these two worlds intersect way more often than we’d like to admit. What may at first appear to be some fakey world-building exercise written for Tumblr notes may actually have their origins rooted in reality. Some say Smoke Ridge is a myth, and others would back that up with concrete facts and a real-world atlas. But I’m sure anybody who's read this far understands the difference between the real and the unreal. After all, if nothing else, we can at least trust our senses. Right?

GURU'S HUKAMNAMA 9th January 2019

The Hukamnama is in Ghar 1 because Guru Sahib has mentioned Ghar 1 on the preceding sabad at SGGS 595. 

As per concept of Ghar 1, each sentence (tuk) shall contain three or more ghars. 

Let's find the ghars and read the hukamnama in accordance with concept of Ghar.

The ghars in tuks have been earmarked by commas as under;

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਃ ੧ ਚਉਤੁਕੇ ॥ (ਅੰਗ ੫੯੬)

ਮਾਇ ਬਾਪ ਕੋ, ਬੇਟਾ ਨੀਕਾ, ਸਸੁਰੈ, ਚਤੁਰੁ ਜਵਾਈ ॥

Maae Baap Ko Baettaa Neekaa Sasurai Chathur Javaaee ||

The son is dear to his mother and father; he is the wise son-in-law to his father-in-law.

As per concept of Ghar, the Rahao pada is not in the Ghar of that of all other padas of the Sabad. Accordingly, the Rahao pada of this sabad is in Ghar 2, wherein, there are two ghars in each tuk of Rahao pada as under;
