2015
“Where are you going now, Yuri?” Viktor asks, because practice is over and his brain can focus on other things like 1) the hole in his sleeve 2) the impressive gap in Yakov’s eyebrow that he does not want to know about and 3) chitchat with rinkmates.
“I’m going to try this new club,” Georgi announces, like nobody knows he’s just seen his ex check in there. “Seems cool.”
Viktor smiles politely and turns back to Yuri, who has just graduated from juniors. “How about you?”
Yuri gives him this look. The one you give to an adult when they ask how to print an email attachment.
“Seeing my grandpa,” he says. “It’s Sunday. We’re making pierogi.”
This is the most Yuri has ever said to Viktor, and he seems to have exhausted his reserves. Viktor’s follow up questions are all met with irritable shrugs.
2016
Sometimes Viktor says he’s going out but stays in. Sometimes Viktor says he’s staying in to do laundry when he is 100% planning to try out that new bar the next block over.
He doesn’t know why he does this.
Maybe it’s security. He lives for the grid, loves checking in and being tagged. But.
Yuuri left the onsen, clearly bothered by something, saying, “I’ll be at the rink.”
Viktor looks for him everywhere, in all his favorite places. The beach, the boardwalk, that panini place in the grungy part of town, the hardware store where Yuuri buys polish for his equipment.
“I looked for you everywhere,” Viktor says petulantly when he finally finds Yuuri methodically practicing the salchow.
Yuuri gives him a look. Viktor blinks, thinking for a moment he’s back in St. Petersburg and talking to small Yuri.
“I told you I’d be here,” Yuuri says. He adjusts his gloves. “But since you’re here — when I step out at the end, I’m not sure —”
Yuuri chips away at a problem with the patience of a coal miner. Viktor usually bashes his head at an issue until it’s cracked down the middle and he’s tired to the bone. And then sleeps for twenty-four hours straight.
“Sure,” Viktor says, and walks Yuuri through the snarl in the yarn.
Yuuri watches intensely, carefully. He asks Viktor to repeat himself four times.
Viktor never minds.
2014
It’s Easter Sunday and St. Petersburg is deserted. Viktor woke up early, because his body is cruel, and tried three of his favorite coffee shops and finally slunk to the Starbucks when he was roundly taunted with closed signs.
The place is packed with tourists and Viktor drinks his concoction in grim dignity. He pretends not to speak English to the five people that all ask directions to the Kremlin. He leaves with his drink only half-finished, his paper only half-read.
Sometimes you never know your dad, as it happens, and sometimes your mom dies when you’re twenty-one, as it happens.
You’re legally an adult, so you get an apartment with the sponsorship money. You train at the same rink, with the same coach, and your life still revolves around the same neighborhood, so it’s not so different is it?
Viktor passes by a couple holding hands, two slim guys, laughing quietly about something on a phone. The one guy looks a little like Chris Giacometti and Viktor has an idea for a step sequence that would definitely inch him up a couple tenths of a point.
He makes some good progress at the rink that afternoon and rewards himself with a bubble bath that floods the bathroom in glitter, like he’s Oberon incarnate.
He wakes up later from a dream, something about hands and gold at 4am and can’t fall back asleep.
But the sky is streaked a pretty pink, like Makkachin’s tongue, and he runs to the rink. The ice smells welcoming.
2017
Viktor comes home to his apartment in St. Petersburg.
He passes by the cafe where he first convinced his mom to give him skating lessons, when he was four.
(His mother, who was an engineer for their country — now it was called Russia again, not that it made a difference to whether Viktor could watch more cartoons in the morning — stared at him with her mathematical brain and said, “For what purpose?”
“Any purpose,” said Viktor. She signed him up, provisionally.)
Viktor unlocks his front door with the usual elaborate ballet of wrist turns and shoulder slamming, and sets the groceries on the floor.
“Please,” says Yuuri, from the kitchen. “Please let me replace that lock.”
Viktor abandons the bags to kiss Yuuri instead until he’s blushing and forgotten his cereal.
“I like that lock. It has character.”
“It’s difficult,” Yuuri says, exasperated and fond. His hands are resting on Viktor’s hips, like they belong there, and Viktor feels —
“I too am difficult,” Viktor says.
Yuuri rolls his eyes but humors him. “I’m going for a run before going to the rink. You want to come?”
Viktor rests his head on top of Yuuri’s. He lets himself listen to Yuuri’s steady breathing for a minute and kisses the top of his head.
“Yes! Let’s run by the river.”
“Sure,” Yuuri says.
2012
Viktor is in Canada or Shanghai or maybe Johannesburg, he can’t really remember right now, but he’s wedged into a taxi beside Chris, who is expounding on the virtues of some new blade. Viktor smiles, not attending, and stares at the lights outside the car window.
They don’t hook up that night, but instead play Gin Rummy and дурак in Chris’ hotel room. Then Chris brings out an actual travel backgammon set from his suitcase.
“This game is so boring,” Viktor tells him, still a little drunk.
They’re speaking English, the common tongue of all competitors, though sometimes Viktor can persuade Chris to let him practice his French.
Chris just smiles and shrugs, sheepish over the wire-frame glasses he wears at night. Viktor is a little bored and a little tired, but that’s okay. The backgammon passes the time.
2016
Viktor has an anxiety attack on the plane, in the tiny Hasetsu airport with a smattering of gates, in the uber ride over, and while explaining to the kind but baffled middle-aged Japanese couple what Viktor and his ten billion suitcases are doing on their front porch.
He has another one while soaking in the spring, though it’s probably just a continuation of the slow long quarter-life crisis he’s been having since his thumb pressed the ‘call’ button under YAKOV and his mouth said, “I’m going to Japan to coach Yuuri Katsuki,“ and then the only father figure he has ever known said, “Don’t expect to come crawling back.”
He rests his head on the rocks behind him and dreams of a time when things — anything — felt fine.
But you can’t expect to get a different result from doing the same thing, his mom would have said. Something has to change.
The sliding door to the main building rockets open. Viktor thinks the door actually might derail off its tracks, but he’s distracted by the sweaty, gasping vision of Yuuri Katsuki, in glasses and workout gear, standing above him.
They gape at each other for a minute. Viktor is naked and flushed and not breathing correctly, but Yuuri is at least two of those things too.
“What are you doing here?” Yuuri asks.
He doesn’t pretend not to know Viktor, like the day after the banquet. And it’s the undertone of desperate hope that bolsters Viktor’s confidence.
Maybe two negatives can make a positive.
2016
It’s after the adrenaline crash and flashing lights have faded, and Viktor and Yuuri are alone, in their hotel room, showered and in sweats, perched on the pushed-together beds that Viktor feels an attack coming on again. He hasn’t had one in so long.
Yuuri nudges Viktor’s leg with his foot. There is a hole in the heel of his sock.
“So,” Yuuri says. “Next season.”
Viktor loves him like this, hair still damp around the edges, relaxed and serious. He loves goofy Yuuri too, but this is the calm version Yuuri never really trusts anyone else to see.
“Yeah,” says Viktor.
He misses skating like a missing limb, but he forgot the other side of the coin.
“You scared shitless?” says Yuuri.
An undignified snort bursts from Viktor.
“Obviously,” he says.
Yuuri scoots in, so that he’s wedged snug into Viktor’s side, and pulls out his phone.
“You already have a PS3,” Viktor says as Yuuri sends a message to the craigslist user.
“Yeah, but I doubt your apartment does,” says Yuuri. “Unless you wanted to get a new place together?”
“After all the work I put into decorating?” Viktor says indignantly.
Yuuri kisses Viktor’s neck, just at the juncture of his jaw, tender and unhurried, with a casual possessiveness Viktor never thought he’d know.
Viktor shivers and leans in.
Yuuri’s lips move up the side of Viktor’s face. Viktor can feel them curve into a smile.
“You know,” Yuuri murmurs, hand warm against Viktor’s side, “this grey hoodie blends in exactly with your hair.”
“This is heather,” Viktor tells him, and tugs the edges of Yuuri’s hair — just becoming long enough for a ponytail.

Viktor Nikiforov is lonely
It’s time to talk, once again, about Yuri!!! on Ice, because that’s basically all I think about.
We know Viktor is lonely, that’s a fact. But the depth of his loneliness is really hard to grasp, I think.
Some people characterize it as depression. I have, in the past, and I think there’s truth to that as well. But more importantly, I think, is that Viktor feels unanchored in his life, and he’s floating (skating) away.
This is going to get long, so more under the cut.
A lot of people headcanon that, before Yuuri, skating is all Viktor has. And once again, I feel there’s some truth to that. He has Yakov, he has his rinkmates, but we only see Yuri, Georgi, and Mila. Georgi seems too caught up in his own drama (to be fair, we don’t know much about him) and Yuri and Mila are kids. They’re not really friends.
There’s Christophe Giacometti - but I think the fandom overemphasizes their friendship. What I saw, upon my most recent rewatch, was a friend, but more like a “work friend.” Someone to hang out with and get drunk with and maybe even gossip with when they’re together at competitions. But not someone to text or call when he’s lonely. Not someone who he can just talk to about boys. They have fun when they’re together, and that relationship is important to both of them. But they see each other as skaters, competitors, first and foremost. It’s clear that Viktor and Chris haven’t talked since the last time they saw each other when they see each other again at the Cup of China. And sure, they’re both busy with skating and coaching and what have you. But a call between friends is not hard to do, especially in the months after the last skating season, but before Viktor shows up to coach Yuuri. And again, we don’t really know. We don’t know what happened in those months. Maybe they did talk and hang out. But that was not the impression that I got.
Who does that leave Viktor with, then? We don’t know anything about Viktor’s family. We may find out more in Ice Adolescence, or we may not. Viktor has Yakov, who he lived with for a time and trained with (and who is clearly important), and Makkachin. That’s not enough. Viktor has no peers. He is at the top of the world in skating and people love and idolize him, but who does he hang out with? Who does he call at the end of a long day to complain to? Who does he go out for coffee with? Maybe with Georgi, or even Mila - though he seems to only talk to Yuri about skating pre-series. But we don’t know.
Then there’s Yuuri. In spite of him feeling like he was working alone until he met Viktor, there are a lot of people there for him. His family, Minako, Yuuko and Takeshi (even though he clearly hasn’t talked to them since he left Japan), Phichit. He also has acquaintances - like Ketty, who was the one who made him the song back when he was at school and also wrote Yuri on Ice. He said things were awkward between them AFTER he didn’t use her song, but that clearly implies that there was a time where they probably hung out. He also has rinkmates, like the girl who hugged him, and the other rinkmate in the hospital who he was at least close enough to visit there and be anxious about. Even if he wasn’t close with his rinkmates, they seemed to have each other’s backs. But like I said, Viktor has rinkmates too. For Viktor, those are not enough, because that’s all he has, but for Yuuri, they’re smaller pieces of his support system.
I relate to Yuuri a lot, for a lot of reasons, but in this particularly instance, it’s the understanding that even though I HAVE a strong support system, I still feel alone. It’s cutting, it hurts, and it is really, really hard. But that doesn’t mean the support system isn’t there, just because I’m not using it properly. But I think Viktor is in more dire straits. I think, before Yuuri, he has Yakov and Makkachin and skating. And that’s not a support system.
Viktor gets his “L words” - Life and Love, from Yuuri. From the night he entranced him at the Sochi banquet, to skating Stammi Vicino, to coaching, to falling in love, it seems like Viktor has much more joy in his life since Yuuri came into it. Again, it’s hard to tell because Viktor is not the POV character, and we don’t see too much of his background. But even he said that he got those “L words” from Yuuri. He implied there was an emptiness to his life beforehand.
But here’s where things get tricky. Because, based on what we see, everything that Viktor has emotionally is tied up in Yuuri. And, if this were a real life relationship, and not an idealized, fictionalized one, that would be scary. Viktor still has Yakov, and he has a new friendship (ish) with Yuri Plisetsky, and he has Makkachin. But if that wasn’t enough before, it’s still not enough. He has Yuuri, and Yuuri seems to be his everything.
I think, to an extent, Yuuri feels the same way about Viktor. They’re wrapped up in each other to the detriment of their relationships with others. But Yuuri still has his family, he still has Minako, and Yuuko (who he’s reconnected with) and Phichit. And he even said that being with Viktor has made him realize the love and support he already had.
But without Yuuri...Viktor has nothing. That’s dangerous. That’s codependent. And yes, I think they’re both codependent, and if something happened to Viktor, Yuuri would break, but he would survive to eventually put the pieces back together. But if something happened to Yuuri...I don’t know if Viktor would survive. Because if one person is your everything, if you lose that, you have nothing.
And maybe I’m projecting too much. Maybe none of this actually makes any sense. It’s based on a lot of assumptions, a lot of “I thinks” and “I don’t knows.” And honestly? Lots of fictional relationships are like this - this wrapped-up-in-each-other codependency.
We get 12 episodes with Viktor and Yuuri. 12 episodes to watch them fall in love. And we really don’t get enough to make the determination that I’m making here. Their relationship in canon is good and beautiful and strong. But in the fandom, there’s a lot of things that make me think it’s not healthy. I’ve written them too. This is only something I’ve recently started thinking about because I think about this show too much. It’s not something I necessarily see when I rewatch the show.
Viktor is lonely. We know that. That’s a fact. Maybe that’s all it is. And with canon, maybe that’s all it needs to be.
But I think as a fandom we have to be conscious of how we characterize our boys, to not turn life and love into the be-all-end-all of their lives. Because fiction influences people, and if young readers idealize the general fandom conception of Viktor and Yuuri as so-in-love-nothing-else-matters, they might not recognize that that can be unhealthy in their own, real life relationships.
I don’t know. I love my boys. But I was in a relationship where, as much as I tried to deny it at the time, my partner was my everything. And when he broke up with me, I was unstable for 3.5, 4ish years. I’ve only rebalanced my life in the last two. So yeah, maybe I’m projecting. But I’m ALWAYS projecting on these characters. Maybe I’m over-identifying. Projecting on fictional characters is something everybody does, to an extent.
Canon Viktuuri is good. Canon Viktuuri doesn’t really give an implication of codependency, except in tiny snippets of “maybes” from a life Viktor has that we really know nothing about.
But I’ve seen the codependency in fandom works. I’ve probably written codependency in fandom works, unintentionally. And I think, that’s something we need to work on, as a fandom.
This post got away from me a little bit. At first, I just wanted to talk about how I don’t think Viktor and Chris’s relationship is all that close. But it definitely turned into something else.
Maybe I’m wrong. I’m not saying all fandom works present this codependency, just that I’ve seen enough of them that I’m worried. And as an worrier with a propensity for over-identifying with the yuri on ice characters who I spend more time thinking about than almost anything else in my life, I felt the need to write this out.
Maybe it’s just my obsession with yuri on ice that’s unhealthy. I’ll have to check on that.

If you find time/inspiration for this prompt (and if it's not included in the storyline you're writing obviously), how about the first time (or several times) Viktor tells Katya about Yuuri in your 0G universe. Or instead, maybe her perspective of meeting Yuuri for the first time with a look into how her conversation with Yakov went after? Either would be so wonderful! Thank you for your time :)
omg one day i really wanna do a full “meet the family” kinda fic because i have this FULL backstory for katya and her many accomplishments but, for now:
Tumblr media
“–– and we beat my previous time by 50 whole points, Mama! It was amazing!”
Viktor’s voice echoes, loud and bright, around the hangar where Katya is doing maintenance on her jet. She has their holo video chat on speaker and she’s been listening to Viktor gush about his newest friend for the past hour. She’s never heard him so excited about a new friend. It’s adorable.
“He’s really something,” Viktor says dreamily. Katya doesn’t need to see the hologram projection to know her son is blushing.
“You really like this boy, huh Vitya?” Katya asks. She tightens a bolt on the underside of her engine.
“Well–– I mean––” Viktor sputters. “Yeah, I do.”
Katya chuckles. She reaches for a different wrench. “I’m glad. Remember, there’s more to life than your academy classes. Go out, make friends, meet cute boys.”
Katya tries not to worry too much, but it’s in her nature. Viktor has always been determined, goal-oriented. She knew he’d excel at whatever he put his mind to. But under all the charisma and bright smiles is a kind of loneliness that Katya recognizes. He reminds her so much of herself, before she met Lilia and Yakov and Viktor’s father.
“I–– he’s not cute!” Viktor squeaks. “I mean, he is, but–– that’s not–– I like him for different reasons!”
“Like?” Katya prompts. She rolls out from under her jet. Viktor’s hologram is flushed bright red.
“He’s really smart,” Viktor mumbles, looking shy. It’s a nice change from the way he usually calls her, all exhausted from any one of the million classes he seems to be taking. “He works hard. He really likes dogs, too.”
“Ah, good,” Katya smiles. “That could’ve been a deal breaker.”
“I really want him to be my co-pilot, Mama.” Viktor chews his lip. “Is it too soon to ask him to switch his entire program for me?”
“Well, didn’t you say you already asked him, Vitya?”
“Oh, right.” Viktor’s brow furrows. “You’re right, oh no. It’s definitely too soon.”
Katya laughs a little to herself. She wishes that she could reach over and ruffle his hair.
“Vitya,” she says, softly. “I don’t know much about your Yuuri, just what you’ve told me, but I do know you. Don’t worry too much about if it’s too soon or if you’re coming off too strong. Just be you, Viktor Nikiforov. Everything else will follow.”
Viktor, the big softie he is, sniffles a little. “Thank you, Mama.”
“Smile, Vitya. You finally met someone who can keep up with you, that’s rare,” Katya wipes her brow before getting back under her jet, resuming her work. “Now, tell me more about this boy.”
“Well, last week I used my jet to take him to New York. Oh, the food here, Mama, you have to visit….”

The Softest Valentines Collab (Top secret, can’t tell you nothing!)
I’ve been working on In Your Eyes I See Beauty all day today, thanks to a wonderful prompt idea birthed by Tati in the @wewritevictuuri Discord server that I am gifting to her once completed. I’m very soft for what’s to come and here’s a little snippet, it will be on AO3 hopefully soon.
Each beauty video had the same signature flair, Viktor’s hair would start off in a bun, he’d wave a salutation to his followers and wink. If the video was centralized around makeup he would showcase a new palette from another company who begged for the exposure. When his looks were complete, he would pose in different angles for the camera much to everyone’s delight.
“Ah what mask will they enjoy next?” Viktor wonders as he wipes away the product to expose his bare skin.
Sometimes he adores the product, other times they’re complete trash and he runs to the nearest spa to try to alleviate the damage with a facial.
If the video was centralized around hair, he would gently pull at the hair tie holding his luscious silver locks in, a waterfall of silver falls and dazzles. It’d been amazing that he was able to maintenance it for so long. He couldn’t rant about how annoying it was to ensure there was no knots, that his ends weren’t split or dead, that he used just enough product to make sure it stayed shiny and soft.
And Viktor knew there was a whole world of people who wanted to rush their hands through it.
It’d gone on this way for months and his subscribers kept piling in. Endorsements and partners scrambled in to get a cut of the beauty guru King himself, and while that part afforded him the best quality of product and lifestyle, it was starting to get lonelier the higher and higher he rose.
One day, while doing his morning face mask routine, Viktor had decided to go through his email, stumbling upon a message marked: WE GOTTA TALK ABOUT YOUR NAILS. At first he thought it was spam but being curious by nature he clicked on it and scoured through the message from a fan.
They stated as usual how they loved his content but they noticed as much as all of his other features were taken care of, noticeably his fingernails were left in the dust. They even included a close up screenshot of Viktor holding onto a foundation bottle, signs of ragged and bitten nails displayed.
Truthfully, he enjoyed a good mani/pedi but he was often forgetful and had an awful habit of biting his nails that would destroy the treatment in less than a day.
Then they made a plea for him to check out another bloggers work. They never showed their face on screen but the nail art spoke for itself and it just so happened that they ran a series dedicated to the looks Viktor would create.
“He’s an amazing nail artist but enjoys his privacy. His series Nikiforov Inspired Nails made me think AHH THEY SHOULD ABSOLUTELY COLLABORATE. Please consider it!” The email concluded.
Pasted at the end of the email was the link to the aforementioned beauty bloggers work. A world of color flashed before Viktor’s eyes, different variants of nail art in both style and length displayed. The camera angle this artist Katsuki Yuuri seemed to work with was always filming from the neck down. The most amazing part was he was able to complete both hands flawlessly every time.
He clicked on the Nikiforov Inspired Nails series, seeing posts marked close to the beginning of his debut as a beauty blogger. So he was aware of him! How had Viktor not been aware of him? The series highlighted the different styles Viktor tried out, embellishing colors of gold and fuchsia seemed to be in every other video.
Then he stopped at a particular video where Yuuri created nail art based on a winter prince theme Viktor had done. He was absolutely captivated by his technique, captivated by the way his hands moved and created, and he realized he wanted him to salvage his nail beds, and hopefully unveil his identity.
Viktor scrolled to the contact info for Yuuri, hands flourishing over the keyboard as he wrote, “Loved your Nikiforov series. How about we do a special video where you get to work on me exclusively? Talk soon, xx”

I was just thinking, what must have happened that evening after Yuuri said he wanted to retire? (Barcelona Wreckage Drabble)
Hands shaking, Yuuri opened up his laptop and immediately scanned for the record button off of his YouTube channel interface. (Chapter 1 of OMLK)
I’m interested to see if you guys spot patterns on how I start my stories. I definitely thrive on prompts, and on a good day I can put out drabbles that can either warm or destroy your heart.
This was so much fun! I’m tagging the following people to join in or not, either way I’m terribly excited to be creating and watching you all create!: @savedbythenotepad @japansace @sweet-vitya @everymanwillbeaking @iwritebetterthanispeak @postingpebbles @e-de-mimsy @stammiviktor

Victuuri Fic Recs
I haven’t done a rec post in a while, so I think it’s about time. Here are a few from my embarrassingly long master list—more incoming as soon as I have time! Some of these are quite popular, but others are criminally under-appreciated and deserve more love and kudos. Please be aware that some of the fics below are heavier than my usual fic rec fare (we all know I am easily bruised when it comes to Victuuri angst). Please take care and mind the listed TWs and the tags within the fics themselves. In no particular order:
I’ll be your Steady Satellite by @catalists
"After seven months as Hawking Space Station’s resident astrobotanist, Yuuri Katsuki hasn’t managed to grow any plants in zero gravity. What have grown are his feelings for his childhood hero and now-coworker, mathematical genius and exobiologist Viktor Nikiforov. When a mechanical error leaves them at the mercy of the empty vastness of space, Yuuri and Viktor are forced to confront their budding relationship in the face of a terrible sacrifice.”
Space AU! Space settings and loneliness go together like peanut butter and jelly and Yuuri and Viktor. My heart grew three sizes reading about two very lonely people falling in love in a confined setting and then shattered when space became the dangerous place it so often is and a terrible choice had to be made. What I really appreciated about this fic is that the effects of that choice weren’t shrugged off and weighed on Yuuri and Viktor for quite a while. Everything will be okay though, because they have each other. If you want a story about loneliness, love, and sacrifice, and feel like a good cry, this one will hit you like a mallet wrapped in the softest cloth.
TW: suicidal ideation and attempt
Into That Good Night by @lavenderprose (MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH)
“‘What was it like?’ Yuuri asks. The scrape of his skates is slow and gentle on the ice, and Viktor looks up to watch him come near. He stops inches away, eyes fixed on the stands. ‘To be in front of thousands of people? To hear them shouting your name?’ Viktor looks at him, this beautiful man he's somehow found on the other side of the world in a town that doesn't exist, and says, ‘It was marvelous.’ Viktor Nikiforov has neglected life and love for over seventy years. Fighting a losing battle with illness, he takes up residence in what is known as a twilight town. In a city on the sea built of dreams and memories, he meets another dying man.”
Me? Recommending a story with Major Character Death? This is a first. Relax, it’s a San Junipero AU, so it’s MCD Lite. That being said, this story is soft, melancholy, and bittersweet more than straight ANGST, but it’s not for the faint of heart. Lavenderprose’s prose is gorgeous and it will make you think just as much as it will, on occasion, devastate your poor heart.
If you’d like something lighter, I also recommend Take Hold, a lovely Soulmate AU.
TW: MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH (have I said that enough?)
The Fall of this Empire will be Loud by @vntya
"In 1991, the Soviet Union collapses. In 1989, the Berlin wall falls. In 1987, Viktor Nikiforov, iconic figure skater and darling of the USSR, defects to the United States. In 1986, Yuuri Katsuki falls in love.”
This fic recently updated after a hiatus and I am so, so happy it’s back. It’s a Cold War AU and danger lurks around every corner for our star-crossed lovers, but you know it’s going to be okay from the very first chapter. However, the road to the eventual happy ending is rocky indeed.
TW: period-typical homophobia Hide and Seek by @senshoo
"Thankfully, the walk only took a few moments and soon, Yuuri was juggling both the child and the key while he shouldered his way into the apartment, set the kid down on his second hand couch, and then sighed, sinking to the floor. One deep breath. Maybe two. And then, it hit him. Holy shit. Did he just kidnap a child? Or: The one where Yuuri accidentally becomes a father at twenty three. Oh, and there's still skating.”
Don’t brush this one off as kid fic. Trust me. Do not. Little Yuri does not overshadow the adult characters or decimate the plot like a wrecking ball hopped up on Pixie Sticks. He is well-written, as are Yuuri, Viktor, and Phichit. If you love found family fic, you will love this! Tadaima by @stammiviktor
"After decades of wandering, Viktor finds a home in the Katsuki family.”
Speaking of found family fic, this Victor-centric one is a masterpiece. As I sit here trying to come up with a summary for this fic, I am drawing a blank; there are too many good moments to condense into a little paragraph. This fic is soft, poignant, and just so, so beautiful. I cried over a paper bag. Really. You will understand once you read it. READ. THIS. FIC.
Confidential Information by @iwritebetterthanispeak
"Yuuri never imagined that being able to figure skate would be useful for his job at Interpol. He was very, very wrong. Viktor Nikiforov, as a famous athlete popular in the public eye, has received threats before. There are very few he takes seriously. However, as more secrets are uncovered and nothing is as it appears, the stakes rise until it becomes clear that there may not be a way to save him this time."
Yuuri is an Interpol agent, Viktor is still a skater, and I am a nervous wreck reading about them. This fic has a thriller-like pace, particularly in the later chapters, so if you want something with a little more get-up-and-go, this is a must read.
TW: major character injury; minor character death; death threats against major characters; violence; homophobia The Crow Upon the Sea by @amberstarfight
"Supposedly, Katsuki Yuuri can hear strange messages on the radio, the government is raiding random homes in his town, and Viktor Nikiforov has disappeared. The truth is a completely different story.”
A genetically modified Russian spy AU. This fic is a difficult one to summarize since, as a well-developed AU with excellent world building, it is packed to the brim with detail. Government conspiracy, romance, this fic has it all in spades. If you like Sci-Fi and/or Spy AUs, this is an absolute must read!
TW: major character injury; forced medical procedures
The Clockwork Prince by @momothistle
“Figures are beautiful automatons designed to entertain. Artisans are those specially trained tend to them and keep Figures in working order. Yuuri became an Artisan in hopes of meeting the Figure that captured his heart as a child, the ice dancer Viktor. Yuuri had long given up his dream and opened a small shop. Then one day, his entire life changes when Prince Yuri comes and requests Yuuri to make emergency repairs on his Figure, the one and only Viktor.”
I debated whether on not to put this on the list since it hasn’t updated in some time and I suspect it might be dead. Nevertheless, what we have been given is a beautiful and very unique Steampunk AU. Even if it stays incomplete, I think it is worth the read! [Fair warning, there is side Otayuri if that’s not your thing.]

Model AU Masterlist
urgent need of gravity by RennieOnIceCream (Hitsugi_Zirkus)
"Yuuri," Phichit waved the magazine in front of his face, "you collect every single magazine that Viktor is in, have his spreads on your wall, follow his fashion tours online, and probably fantasize about seductively applying his lipstick. I say, what do you have to lose?"
Yuuri opened his mouth. Closed it. Then he reached out and snatched his magazine back. How the hell did Phichit know about that fantasy anyway?
OR,
AU in which Yuuri is a make-up artist working in a small salon when he's suddenly invited to work for big time fashion brand Stammi Vicino right alongside its top male model, Viktor Nikiforov, and love isn't all glitter and perfectly-winged eyeliner.
The Return of the Little Piggy by JMonCheri
Everybody had their regrets in college.
For the students, it was making fun of Katsuki Yuuri.
For Yuuri, it was letting himself become too stupid.
For Viktor, it was not doing anything.
_-_
Once there was a boy named Katsuki Yuuri, who was shy, loved to make clothes, had adorable smiles and was fatter than the usual average human being. Unfortunately for him, apparently being chubby wasn't all that accepted in the norm back then. After numerous accounts of bullying, Katsuki Yuuri disappears for good. Now years later, there is now a man only known as Y.K. Fashion tyrant, multimillionaire, professional cold-stare giver... and is trying his ultimate best to run away from his dark past, until a certain silver haired CEO of a certain rival company who went to the same certain college he went to back then decides to flat out entangle their fates together. Do both of them have anything to say for it? Sadly, no. No they don't.

golden achilles' heel by RennieOnIceCream (Hitsugi_Zirkus)
