blood turns the water red briefly. their clothes are heavy with stolen life, and as theo sinks below the surface they wonder if they'll ever be clean again.

So I'm a fan of the whole spawn Astarion can eventually learn to turn into a bat (who can resist Batstarion?)

But I cannot imagine he's good at it, at first. Like, the first time he tries he doesn't know how to magically bind his clothing to him, and we just have a tiny, confused, and slightly angry Batstarion in his pile of clothing.

And even when he figures out how to transform and keep his clothing, there still is a period of time where when he transforms back it's not in his clothes- those just end up flung about and poor naked Astarion is stumbling around trying to get his footing.

I imagine there are a lot of times he ends up transforming before he's landed, his clothing goes flying, and he ends up naked sprawled on his partner. Possibly in front of others.

Okay but... how much blood does a D&D vampire need every day, simply "once a day" is not greatly helpful in and of itself! Am I looking at, like... a city of 50k people to support 5k vampires sustainably where they only need a very small amount, or one of 500k going off real world blood donation amounts, or like 5 million if it's an entire person's worth of blood daily ffs, did anyone actually think through the logistics of this when they put it in the game?

I'm not actually convinced the Underdark has that many people living in it, if it's the latter. I'm not even convinced the entirety of the Sword Coast does! How the hells was Cazador feeding all these vampires enough to keep them alive for so long in the centuries leading up to the Rite?!

blood rushes in their ears, every beat of their heart shakes the very ground beneath their feet. gale, warm and solid underneath their body, is the grounding force that brings theo out of the cloud of bloodlust and adrenaline--though the presence of both are still manifest in their blown-out eyes.

"i'm fine," their chest heaves with exertion, the sprint and the jump and the fall have knocked the wind out of their lungs. even if they were injured, they'd hardly feel it until later. nothing gale needs to concern himself with.

he hesitates to pull away, they do not hesitate to sink further into his grasp.

they meet his eyes, then examine the rest of his face.

Caleb watched Ceres carefully, his expression unreadable as she spoke. He knew there was more to her than met the eye, more depths hidden beneath a charismatic facade. It had been over a decade since Caleb had last attended any sort of party, and the influx of strangers into their campsite made him feel a bit uneasy. He could sense the buzzing chatter and laughter of the crowd, the clinking of glasses and the wafting aroma of alcohol. Despite his discomfort, he couldn't resist indulging in a few glasses of shitty wine to ease the tension in the air. As the crackling of the fire filled the brief silence between them, Caleb's tone shifted, carrying a note of conviction. “Nein, it’s okay. I want the tadpoles gone as much as you do.”

The human man despised the tadpole, a small but persistent creature that kept him tethered to the group whether he wanted it or not. The thought of his mind being an open book to his fellow members filled him with discomfort and set him on edge. The others were always quick to point out his sour mood, as if they relished in poking at his defenses. Perhaps they were all burdened by the weight of their circumstances, haunted by secrets and uncertainties that threatened to consume them whole. He took a swig from his wine, the liquid burning down his throat.

His mind shifted back to the book, the reason he had initiated this conversation in the first place. He couldn't shake off the dangerous aura that surrounded it, but Caleb was unable to suppress the overwhelming envy he felt towards Ceres’ possession of such potentially powerful arcane knowledge. But Ceres was kind, kinder than the most of the assholes at this camp. For now, Caleb pushed his curiosity aside to show some semblance of decency in return. “You’re doing a good job, being the face of this. I don’t think we would have made it this far without you.”
