On Vegetarianism, veganism, and omnivorous diets
So, I recently saw a study on vegan diets vs omnivorous diets that showed that-- assuming both are well balanced and paired with proper exercise-- veganism is significantly healthier.
But--- this study also pointed out that dairy specifically has a lot of unhealthy qualities, which really begs the question "are vegan diets actually healthier than dairy-free diets?"
I want to see a variation on this study that focuses on a diet that allows dairy vs a dairy-free diet, because I have a feeling that the vegan diet and the dairy-free omnivore diet would show quite a bit less of a significant difference

In the USA, "made with real milk" is not impressive. The government incentives food manufacturers to include milk in their products even where they might be able to go without it.
The milk industry is heavily subsidized and propped up by the government. We literally have more milk than we know what to do with. And it's because the dairy industry was expanded to produce for MREs (meals ready to eat) for soldiers in World War 2.
"No rBST" is also not good. Cows don't just produce milk all the time. Do you? Didn't think so. They either get that hormone shot, or they birth calves which are made into veal, and this unnecessarily puts their health at risk.
People don't even know what gelatin is so I'm just spreading awareness about where what you put in your body even fucking comes from, holy shit

i think a lot of people mistake vegans for believing themselves to be "morally superior" rather than the actual, and very reasonable stance that IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION NOT TO KILL OTHER LIVING BEINGS, YOU SHOULDN'T DO IT.
most of us can understand that it's stupid to wield "oh so you think you're morally superior" against any type of human or environmental rights activists because how do you even respond to that? sure? Because its NOT ABOUT MORAL SUPERIORITY. IT'S ABOUT NOT UNNECESARILY CAUSING HARM.
Also, an activist could be the most annoying, self righteous person on the entire planet, but their stances having NOTHING to do with that. An asshole saying "trans rights" doesn't mean you shouldn't support trans rights because an asshole said it.
PLEASE start looking at veganism like you look at any other form of activism and resistance, and consider what disinformation and propaganda you've been fed about it.

The climate crisis is often framed as primarily a problem caused by fossil fuels, and they do play an important role in heating the planet. But even if we could magically reduce fossil fuel emissions to zero tomorrow, according to data scientist and Oxford researcher Hannah Ritchie, our current food systems mean we’d still blow “well past the 1.5 degrees carbon budget, and use up nearly all of our two degrees budget”. What that ought to tell us, she added, “is that we just cannot tackle climate change without also tackling food systems”.
And beef, of which JBS is the largest producer in the world, far outpaces not only plant-based food, but other animal sources of nutrition as well, when it comes to climate impacts. Cows belch methane, and they’re largely fed grains that are grown in fertilizer-intensive monocultures where excess fertilizer causes water pollution or turns into nitrous oxide, another potent greenhouse gas, said Lehner. And that’s not even taking into account the slashing and burning of the Amazon to make room for more cattle, which JBS has been linked to many times over.
“If JBS loses – and they’re going to – I think it’s already sending a signal to major companies that you cannot just say ‘We’re Paris [agreement]-aligned.’ You cannot just say ‘We’re going to be net zero in 2030’ when you have no plan, and the curve for your climate pollution is going straight up,” said Paglia. “You cannot keep lying like this.”

also this is the first time in a long time where no one in the office knows i'm vegetarian (i don't want to bring it up) and honestly it IS weird how often non-veg bring up veganism in discussions and relate their habits like why do you care 🤨

(Stolen from an unsavory individual.)
The vegan to ecofascist pipeline starts with:
"I want to do something to better the environment". A noble pursuit.
Then, "Large scale animal agriculture is bad for the environment". Accurate statement.
Then, "Therefore, I am going to stop consuming all animal products and biproducts." A lofty goal, but still reasonable. It's not something that's for everyone, but if that's what you want to do to do your part, more power to you.
Then, "If I can do it, so can you." Inaccurate. The human body is suited ideally for an omnivorous lifestyle. While the human body is very adaptable, its adaptability varies from person to person, and not everyone is able to subsist off of a vegan lifestyle.
Then, "People who don't follow my lifestyle are maliciously contributing to climate change." We're going into dangerous 'us vs. them' territory now. Now everyone who consumes animal products and biproducts even utilyzes large-scale animal agriculture, and there are myriad of reasons for someone to not be vegan. Personal lifestyle choices are also a distraction from the larger issue at hand, which is that corporations contribute the most to climate change, and blaming yourself and other individuals is a distraction.
Then, "Human beings are responsible for climate change. Humans are inherently destructive." False. Corporations and industrialization is responsible for climate change. Humans are inherently neutral, and for the most part are actually good.
Then, "If there were less people on this Earth, we would have less climate change and pollution."
And there we are. At the ecofascism finish line. Not every vegan ends up at the ecofascist finish line. Many vegans stay comfortably on the third rung of the ladder, focusing on their own personal boundaries and lifestyle choices. However, as soon as you dip your toes into the "if I can do it, so can you" mentality, that's when the ball begins rolling down the slippery slope of ecofascism.
As soon as you begin forcing your lifestyle onto other people, that's when it becomes dangerous.

Honestly i think y'all just fucking don't want to care sometimes. That's really it. You know on some level that you'd care if you look into how animals are treated. But it hurts. So the second you see someone sharing some feel good industry bullshit it's *click* and the thought is terminated. You just don't want to care. But you fucking have to. Animals are dying painfully, the earth is dying painfully, people are going home traumatized from work and injured and getting sick in their homes from the pig shit around them, and dying painfully. You have to care. Even though it fucking sucks to.
