#vacation was exhausting and I'm not yet fully recovered

Speaking of book covers, I've been trying to figure out a way to put together a cover for my Inklings Challenge story On Winged Feet for ages now--I've been thinking about offering it to newsletter subscribers once I get around to starting my newsletter--and I am so stuck, friends. Apparently stock photos of teenage girl + dressed in leggings & tunic + forest + fantasy vibes + braided hair do not exist, and that's not even getting to the wings on her ankles!
Yes, I'll admit, I'm too finicky. But I'm NOT going to slap a generic Medieval-ish Girl in Long Dress with Hair Blowing in the Wind cover on my darling Kenna's story and call it good, even if it IS more for my own satisfaction than anything else.
(There is a tiny part of me that is tempted to expand the story into a novel and try to find a publishing home for it, but that way lies madness. I have TOO MANY stories on hand to add another project to my plate. Even starting a newsletter is a bit ambitious right now.)

Note
It's been a few months since I've read anything tgm, but decided on a whim today that I wanted to re-read MMATS (manifesting a summer romance or at least beach vacation) and stumbled upon the equivalent of a smoking crater, holy shit.
It must being exhausting trying to enjoy your free time by sharing and hanging out with people with a similar interest, and have someone hell-bent on turning it into an even worse version of high school. Like its embarrassing enough being a mean girl then, but with a fully formed brain and less hormonal influence someone is still choosing that? 🫣 yikes.
I'm so sorry that the fun silly hobby that you and so many enjoy is being used to cause harm and fear, and I hope that things can settle and restore after time. I'm seeing a lot of positive voices around, which I think is a good sign that in some ways the good vibes will return, especially when blogs like yours are standing up for the victims and being a firm voice in favor of building each other up rather than making yet another space on the internet for people to be torn down
Though I can't say I'm not excited to hear you considering Marvel, may I be the first to suggest Daredevil? He's a self-sabotaging orphan with big brown eyes and amazing abs, and he's getting a new show this year! Also the community here is active and so sweet (in my short experience)
Enjoy your time away, as much as you need, fingers crossed that the people effected recover okay, and that the perpetrator reflects on the very real impact of their actions and steps away.
Self-sabotaging orphan with big brown eyes and amazing abs, you say?? 👀👀👀
Man, what a day to come back to the fandom, huh?? Yeah, I mean, it can get a little annoying having to bear witness to some kind of drama every other week when you’re trying to write silly little stories in your down time, but soo la voo or whatever the French say
I think the fandom will be fine in the end, but it’s sad seeing so many amazing writers driven off because of this, and the scar of what happened will always be here, unfortunately.
I just think it’s funny that you still have people going around on anon sending nasty, catty things to other people, myself included.
I’ve just eaten my share of Thai food, and I have snacks and alcohol ready for the weekend, so I’ll be fine lol
Take care of yourself!!

Tragic Outcomes 3
Pairings: Xiao x fem!reader x Zhongli
Summary: Ever since you and Xiao have made up, you didn't want to leave Zhongli behind. So, the three of you have decided to alternate between the days when you go to Wangshu Inn to be with Xiao and to Liyue Harbor to be with Zhongli. During the escort, you come to a realization that you didn't want to continue to alternate between two different places to be with Xiao and Zhongli. Xiao then reveals to you about him being constantly haunted by the sounds of your voice crying out to him and you came to a conclusion on how to stay with the two of them in the end. But it seems like something- or someone- is lurking in the corners, waiting to strike.
Note: Hello! This is part 3 of Tragic Outcomes! Quite frankly, I did not expect people to want a part 3 hehe. Because this part is shorter than the other two parts (because I'm currently on vacation and I'm constantly being dragged away from my laptop TT_TT), I'll try my best to make a part 4 with a smut (maybe) if you all want that, but other than that, I will start accepting requests very soon! ^^ To my new readers or returning readers, please keep in mind that I post on AO3 as well, so, if you have an AO3 and see a work similar to this, it’s me (Aaliah_exo on AO3). I don’t post anywhere else but on Tumblr (Genshinluvr) and on AO3 (Aaliah_exo).
Warnings: Slight angsty because it's Xiao, Lumine is unhinged as fuck but she'll be even more unhinged in the next part. It's also a tiny bit suggestive oooooh
Word Count: 3.8k
Tragic Outcomes Chapters: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]
“Are you hungry? I can get you something to eat?”
“No, thank you, I’m not feeling hungry yet.”
“Are you feeling thirsty? I can get you something to drink if you’d like.”
“Now that I think about it, I am feeling a little thirsty…”
Xiao and Zhongli have been at your beck and call ever since Lumine had attempted to attack you. Since Lumine had tried to kill you, you haven’t stopped by Wangshu Inn as much as you’d like to do so. So, Zhongli and Xiao have come up with the idea for you alternate between staying at Liyue Harbor and staying at Wangshu Inn. Zhongli would escort you to Wangshu Inn after your night at Liyue Harbor, and Xiao would accompany you to Liyue Harbor after staying the night at Wangshu Inn. If you were to protest that you didn’t need an escort to take you from point A (Wangshu Inn) to point B (Liyue Harbor), your words would go in one ear and out the other for both Xiao and Zhongli.
Despite recovering from your injuries, you couldn’t help but worry whether the amount of walking could negatively impact the healing process. You didn’t mind walking from Liyue Harbor to Wangshu Inn at all, but it was almost exhausting for you to do so. With your injuries still healing, you didn’t want to strain yourself by walking or making the injuries worse. To quell your worries, Xiao and Zhongli have agreed to give you a piggyback ride on the way to your destination! Have you protested against the idea of Xiao and Zhongli giving you a piggyback ride? Yes. Did they care that you didn’t want them to give you a piggyback ride? No, no, they didn’t care that you didn’t want them to give you a piggyback ride. Their main concern was to get you to your destination safely, and if you worry about your recovery journey being negatively impacted by the trip, then they shall get rid of those concerns.
“Is carrying me really necessary?” You ask, your arms wrapped around Zhongli’s shoulders as he carries you to Wangshu Inn.
Zhongli hums softly, “Yes, it is necessary. I don’t want you to worry about not being able to fully recover due to the trip from Liyue to Wangshu Inn and back.” Zhongli tightens his grip underneath your knees while adjusting you on his back.
You rest your head on Zhongli’s shoulders and let out a soft, defeated sigh, tightening your grip around his shoulders while snuggling up against his back. Zhongli’s back felt so warm, very comfortable. You can feel his back muscles flexing with little movement. You couldn’t help but wonder what Zhongli looks like whenever he’s shirtless. How muscular was he? How much muscle is he hiding underneath all of those layers of clothing? You didn’t need to wonder about how much muscle Xiao has, considering you’ve seen him shirtless plenty of time. He wasn’t really muscular, but he was pretty fit. Xiao is thin and lean; he can carry you with ease. You shook your head to snap out of your little daydream about Xiao and Zhongli’s physiques, feeling your cheeks heat up just at the mere thought of seeing Zhongli and Xiao shirtless.
“I wish there was a way for me not to have to walk from Liyue Harbor to Wangshu Inn.” You sighed softly, resting your head on Zhongli’s shoulders, and closed your eye (eyes?). “Like, maybe I can have a small house that is between Wangshu Inn and Liyue Harbor, so I wouldn’t have to burden you or Xiao.”
“Stop calling yourself a burden, [Y/N]. You’re not a burden to us.” A voice spoke up, startling you and Zhongli. Xiao was leaning against the tree with his arms over his chest, his eyebrows creasing after letting out a sigh of frustration. A wisp of black, white, and green smoke dissipated around him as Zhongli slowly came to a stop. Xiao pushed himself away from the tree and approached you and Zhongli.
“Oh, Xiao! Where’d you come from?” You ask, getting off of Zhongli after he squats down close to the ground for you to be able to get off of him with ease.
“You called my name.” Xiao simply says, raising an eyebrow at you.
You blinked at Xiao owlishly before looking over at Zhongli. He crosses his arms over his chest, shrugging his shoulders when you give him a look. You walked over to Xiao and linked your arms with his with a smile; Xiao looked away with flushed cheeks at the close contact with you. Sure, the two of you are dating, but Xiao isn’t used to physical touch. He doesn’t hate the physical touch between the two of you! He loves the physical contact between the two of you. But because he was so closed off and introverted, any form of affection was foreign to him.
Like the sudden public display of affection that Xiao had done when he was with Lumine that Childe had witnessed, it was so sudden that it even caught Xiao off guard.
You slowly unlinked your arms from Xiao’s arms after seeing his reaction. You look over at Zhongli with a sad smile, “Thank you for dropping me off today, Zhongli. I’ll see you later!” You quickly approached Zhongli to give him a hug, only to trip over a broken tree branch on the ground. Zhongli and Xiao were quick on their feet and were at your side before you could meet the ground. Zhongli held you by your shoulders while Xiao grabbed you by your waist.
“Please be careful.” Zhongli chides gently, helping you up.
“Don’t run! You’re going to hurt yourself!” Xiao scolds you gently, shaking his head in disapproval. After you composed yourself, you gave the two a sheepish smile while scratching the back of your head with a small laugh.
“H-Hey! Just because I tripped over a branch doesn’t mean I have issues with running!” You exclaimed, puffing your cheeks out at both Zhongli and Xiao. “Plus, I didn’t see the branch there at all! I just wanted to give Zhongli a hug before we depart to Wangshu Inn!” You huffed, puffing your cheeks out with your arms over your chest.
“You still need to be careful; we don’t want you to get hurt again.” Xiao frowns.
You turn to Xiao and give him a small smile. “I’ll be careful! It’s not like I’ll be in another life-threatening situation again!” You joked, playfully rolling your eyes.
Xiao and Zhongli did not look too pleased with your little joke. It may be a lighthearted joke to you, but to them, it was one of their biggest fear. What if you did get thrown into another life-threatening situation again? Ever since Lumine had tried to hurt you, Zhongli and Xiao have been on high alert. It has been a while since you, Zhongli, and Xiao has seen the twins, especially Lumine. You three would see Aether and Paimon here and there when they’re on their commission, but Lumine wouldn’t make an appearance.
It was like she had disappeared off of the face of Teyvat, and you couldn’t help but feel on edge with the thought of Lumine being out and about. She could strike any time soon and will try to take you out of the picture in order for her to be with Xiao. Xiao didn’t resent Aether for the whole Lumine situation, but he is wary of Lumine since she did try to kill you. It was all thanks to Zhongli and his shield that had protected you from the wrath and jealousy of Lumine. Xiao will forever be grateful for Zhongli and his protection over you, especially when Xiao is out doing his duty to protect Liyue and when he’s not able to be there to watch over you.
“Oh, was it too soon to say that?” You laughed awkwardly, scratching the back of your head with a sheepish smile on your face. Zhongli and Xiao nod their heads in response to your question, their arms crossed over their chest at once. They look like they were going to scold you at any moment for saying something as crazy as that.
“Yes, way too soon.” Xiao and Zhongli said in unison, giving one another a side-eye look afterward.
Zhongli sighs softly, “You shouldn’t be joking about anything dangerous, [Y/N]. You know how worried we get about you.” Zhongli says.
“Not only that, but Lumine is determined to inflict harm on you. So, it’s best not to make light of a dangerous situation.” Xiao says while you nod your head in agreement.
“You’re right! It wasn’t right for me to joke about something that could harm me.” You said softly. Zhongli gently brushes your hair away from your face with a small smile, his hands caressing your face. “You truly cannot blame us for worrying about you and your safety,” Zhongli murmurs softly, his thumb gently rubbing the apples of your cheeks.
There’s something about Zhongli and his soft touches that makes your heart flutter so much. Zhongli handles you as if you’re fragile glass, while Xiao handles you as if you’re a delicate butterfly, easy to be injured with a single touch. You sighed in contentment and leaned into Zhongli’s touch, your heart fluttering in your chest like butterfly wings.
Xiao mumbles to himself, arms over his chest as he waits for you and Zhongli to be done with whatever it is that the two of you are currently doing. At first, Xiao did not like the fact that both you and Zhongli were so close to one another. The affections that the two of you shared with each other made his heart twist in his chest in the very beginning, but now, it didn’t seem to bother Xiao as much as it used to. Xiao is just relieved that you’re okay and that the resentment that you held against him was nonexistent.
You didn’t flinch away from Xiao’s touch, you didn’t avoid his gaze like how you used to, and you weren’t afraid to wear short-sleeved shirts and shorts around, showing Xiao the stitches and scars that decorated your body. No matter how many times you and Zhongli have tried to reassure Xiao that it wasn’t his fault—even though it pretty much is, you’re just trying not to make him feel guilty because he does bring the topic up every now and then— Xiao would feel guilty regardless. It was mainly Childe’s fault that Xiao felt a pang of immense guilt for the tragic outcome after your commission. While the commission was successful, you almost didn’t make it out alive, and when you called Xiao’s name, he ignored your calls and cries.
He can hear it clear as day. The day you almost died, he could hear you calling for him to save you, but he ignored you. He ignored your cries, and this was the outcome of it. The consequences of his actions; you were attacked by the Fatui Skirmishers, and you almost lost your life.
“XIAO!” Your voice was shaking with each cry.
“XIAO!” He can hear your breath hitch with every breath you take. He can hear you crying for him over and over again. But he ignored your cries and continued to hang out with Lumine and Aether, jaws clenching each time he heard you call his name. “What a nuisance.” Xiao scowls internally.
“XIAAAAAAOOOOOOOO!” Your screams echo in his cranium, making Xiao visibly flinch out of his thoughts with a small gasp of fear.
You and Zhongli look over at Xiao before looking over at one another with concern. Xiao can see that you’re worried about him, but Xiao couldn’t help but feel like his worry for your wellbeing was a burden. He didn’t want to bother you or make you feel upset over the fact that his mind was constantly plagued with your screams and pleas in his mind. You approached Xiao and placed a gentle hand on his arm, “Are you okay?”
Xiao swallows the forming lump in his throat before nodding his head rapidly, responding, “Of course I’m fine. There’s no need to be worried about me, [Y/N].” Xiao lets out a shaky exhale. He knew that both you and Zhongli could see through his lies, but the two of you chose to say nothing in response.
Zhongli sighs softly, “You know, there’s no need to bottle up your emotions and trouble yourself. Doing that will result in you destroying yourself mentally and emotionally.” You nod your head in agreement.
“Zhongli’s right, Xiao. Please don’t keep your troubles to yourself! It’s okay to voice your concerns and talk about what’s been bothering you. I’m here for you, Xiao. Zhongli and I will be there for you no matter what.” You gave Xiao a small smile, caressing his face in your hands.
Xiao places his hand over yours, gazing at you sadly. “I keep hearing it,” Xiao whispers.
“Hear what?” You ask.
Xiao hesitates for a moment, looking at you and then over at Zhongli. You and Zhongli seemed really concerned over him, but Xiao couldn’t get himself to tell the two of you what was wrong. You tuck his hair behind his ears, “You don’t have to tell us if you’re not comfortable with it. You can do it if you feel comfortable with it. Don’t force yourself.” You whisper, giving him a small smile.
Xiao gulped and took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself. “I can hear your screams, your cries, you begging for me to show up to save you.”
Your heart drops at Xiao’s response. He has been haunted by your cries ever since the incident happened. Xiao looks heartbroken, almost terrified, even. You didn’t know what you could say to quell his worries away.
“Xiao, please don’t blame yourself. It’s not your fault—” Xiao shakes his head at your comment.
“Stop making excuses for me, [Y/N]. I ignored your calls when you needed me. I ignored it all, and you almost died because of me.” Xiao states, his eyebrows furrowing with frustration. Everyone knew that your injuries were the result of Xiao ignoring your pleas for him to show up. While he was not wholly responsible for the injuries, if Xiao were to show up when you called for him, if Xiao had agreed to accompany you on your commissions, you wouldn’t be horribly injured.
“This is all my fault! If I hadn’t agreed to help Aether and Lumine with their commissions and helped you out instead, you wouldn’t be in this situation.” Xiao frowns. “If I were there with you, you wouldn’t be injured, and you wouldn’t have been in a near-death situation. You would still be able to see from both of your eyes rather than losing sight in one eye.” Tears pool around Xiao’s eyes, his bottom lips trembling.
“Xiao, please don’t beat yourself up over this! Please stop blaming yourself. Yes, this wouldn’t be the outcome if you had joined me on my commissions and come to me after I had called your name, but you can’t change the past.” You said, shoulders drooping. “What’s done is done! What’s more important is that I’m alive and well and that I’m here with you and Zhongli.” You added.
Xiao’s gaze falls to the ground as tears start to cascade down his cheeks slowly. Your eye(s) widened in panic as you cupped his face in your hands while you rapidly wiped his tears away. Xiao grips both of your wrists tightly, pulling you into his arms before burying his face into the crook of your neck. Xiao’s tears start to dampen your neck and shirt collar as you gently comb your fingers through his soft hair. You didn’t know what else you could say to make him feel better. You knew that Xiao had been filled with guilt ever since Childe had told him about you being injured and almost dying from your injuries.
As much as you wanted to comfort him, Xiao was stubborn and stuck to the fact that he was the reason you almost died, and if he had gone with you on your commission, you wouldn’t be in this state. You still need to go to therapy, and you still need daily checkups with Baizhu and the two doctors from Sumeru and Fontaine; you still haven’t fully recovered from your injuries. There are times when you feel phantom pain in some regions of your body that makes it hard for you to cope with that Zhongli had to give you pain medication just to numb the pain that wasn’t really there.
Adjusting to your new life wasn’t easy; it never was going to be as easy as you would hope it would be. While your broken bones and fractured skull can heal to their original state, you can never get one of your visions back. You missed being able to see out of both of your eyes, but since you lost your vision in one eye, you didn’t see what use it’ll make if you were to keep the eye that no longer works. It will never come back, and you’ll have to live the rest of your life with only one functioning eyeball.
You feel arms slide over your shoulders, bringing you and Xiao into an embrace. You look up to see Zhongli; he reaches down and swipes a stray tear away from your cheeks. Your eyes widened, and you touched your cheeks, finally realizing that you had unknowingly shed a tear. You weren’t sure if you were crying for Xiao or over the fact that your life won’t go back to normal after the tragedy.
“I don’t think I want either of us to be alone today. Or, ever.” You sighed softly, leaning against Zhongli’s chest while Xiao kept a firm hold on you, face still buried into your neck. Xiao lifts his head up and looks at you quizzically as you and Zhongli wipe his tears away from his flushed cheeks.
Xiao clears his throat, “What are you implying?” Xiao asks, tightening his hold around your waist tightly.
“C-Can we all just go to Wangshu Inn together? I-I don’t want Zhongli to be alone, a-and I don’t want Xiao to be alone.” You stammered. “I don’t think I can imagine myself away from the both of you.” You said softly, feeling your cheeks heat up.
You swallow your saliva nervously, “If that’s okay with the both of you.” You quickly added.
You weren’t sure if Xiao or Zhongli would agree. Especially with how the both of them acted around each other while you were still at Bubu Pharmacy days after your surgery. To be honest, you didn’t know how long you were at Bubu Pharmacy due to being in and out of consciousness. Since then, Xiao and Zhongli would clash heads with one another, and there would be a spark of jealousy and competition between the two, but they remained calm and professional around one another. Unlike how Childe and Xiao would be around one another.
Zhongli hums and nods his head, “I’m alright with that. As long as I’m with you to make sure that you’re safe.” Your heart flutters, and your cheeks heat up at his statement.
Xiao pulls away from your hug with a sharp sigh, his arms over his cheeks, cheeks still flushed from the amount of crying he had done.
Xiao gives Zhongli a weak smile, looking over at you before grabbing your hands. He nods his head with a small grumble, “I’m okay with that. I trust Zhongli, and I want him to be able to protect you with me.” Xiao murmurs, looking away with scarlet blush dusting his cheeks. “Even though it’ll be hard for me to share you with another man— the man that I look up to, the man that saved me from my tormentor.”
You sighed dramatically, “I wish there were a way for me to live between Liyue Harbor and Wangshu Inn. It’ll make it less complicated for the both of you.”
“What? You don’t want us to leave your side so soon?” Zhongli teases, lightly pinching your cheeks. You pouted and looked away from Xiao and Zhongli’s teasing gazes, face heating up under their gaze. Your heart was going insane, racing against your chest as heat pooled in your nether regions, making your face turn a much darker red.
“Stop teasing me! Yes, I don’t want either of you to be leaving my side any time soon!” You whined, face bright red.
Zhongli and Xiao look over at one another, the corners of their lips quirked up at your flustered state. Xiao and Zhongli place a gentle kiss on each side of your cheeks. Zhongli’s arms wrapped around your waist while Xiao’s fingers interlock with yours, his thumb rubbing against your knuckles.
“We won’t be leaving your side any time soon, don’t worry,” Xiao reassures you, tucking your hair behind your ear with a tiny smile on his face.
“You better not.” You mumble.
You, Zhongli, and Xiao were so wrapped up in your little world while walking to Wangshu Inn that the three of you failed to see a figure watching the three of you from afar. Lumine clenched her jaws tightly as she watched you chat happily with Zhongli and Xiao. The lingering touches between the three of you made Lumine sick to her stomach. The feeling of jealousy twists Lumine’s heart painfully as her sword materializes in her hands.
Lumine shakes her head, trying to shake the thought of you and Xiao still together, her heart falling into the pits of her stomach. Not only were you getting Xiao in the end, but you were also getting Zhongli in the end.
“How come she gets what she wants, and I don’t!?” Lumine scowls, stealthfully following you, Zhongli, and Xiao. She peeked from the wooden boxes and watched you laugh at what Zhongli had said while Xiao gently nudged you, his cheeks bright pink. Lumine’s eyes narrow at the sight of your and Xiao’s hands being connected while Zhongli had his arm draped over your shoulders.
Lumine held her sword up and watched the light reflect off of the blade; the reflection of the back of your head appeared on the edge of her sword.
Lumine smirks and hums to herself, “It seems like I’ll have to forcefully take you out of the picture in order for me to have my happy ending with Xiao.”
Lumine stands in the shadows, watching you walk up the stairs of the Inn with Zhongli and Xiao glued to your side. The three of you looked so happy and relaxed with one another! A smirk appears on Lumine’s face as she clutches her sword tightly, her knuckles turning white. It’s such a shame that Lumine will ruin that moment once she finds the perfect chance to do so.
“I’ll make sure that you’re completely out of the picture, [Y/N] [L/N]. I want to watch you squirm under me with my sword through your heart, surrounded by your blood. I don’t care how much force I’ll have to use. Xiao will be mine, and you will be out of the picture, once and for all!”
Note: I had to leave it on a cliffhanger, you know I had to do it! As much as I don't like cliffhangers, I sure do love putting cliffhangers on my fics hahaha! I will make a smut for this one soon, I just don't know when specifically, but it will definitely not happen before or after the angsty parts. But who knows! My brain is unpredictable! I just hope it won't be as cringey as my first ever smut. That was something! Anyway, to all of my new and returning readers, keep in mind that I ONLY post on my Tumblr (Genshinluvr) and my AO3 (Aaliah_exo)! Nowhere else except Tumblr and AO3!
