Sunday, August 21, 2022: Three months ago today, Corduroy Institute added a second melodic layer onto Corduroy 73.
Most of the first melodic layer was riddled with uncertainty and rambling deviations which failed to convey a sense of purpose for this piece. The end of that improvisation, however, provided several glimpses of worthwhile avenues for exploration: A two-note Mel9 sliding ostinato to undergird the harmonic content and a V-Synth figure which relies upon just four notes.
After a lengthy respite, we decided to record a new layer in which we focused on maximizing the effectiveness of these motifs. This self-referential act was nearly akin to sampling one's own self. The reductive approach allowed the song to move more concisely, permitting the rhythmic content to shine through without being muddled by clashing harmonic content.
Unfortunately, our performance of this new melodic layer was not recorded by any video camera. Any expressions of satisfaction about this performance are forever lost to time, but let it be clear: Corduroy 73 appears to be complete in terms of musical content.
As the session concluded, it remained to be seen whether the piece would be given vocals. Furthermore, we still had to devise a way of contending with the problems caused by the occasional loss of MC-707 drums due to mistimings on the Scatter function.
Whatever became of Corduroy 73? Further details forthcoming.

it just occurred to me that i could make songs with inspirobot quotes
like, so many things from inspirobot are metal as hell and out of pocket. my favorites so far are
- Pretend, let it die.
- Simpletons and asskissers form an alliance for future generations
- All you need to transcend into the fourth dimension is money and a second life
like, these lines would feel so at home in a song

Saturday, December 19, 2020: Two years ago today, Corduroy Institute convened and recorded two songs. We had not generated any material since the October sessions of that year, and it was the first time we made new music at the Bancroft Laboratory of Auditory Sciences since January of 2020.
The first improvisation was Corduroy 64, an impromptu recording in which the EPS 16 Plus repeated a tropical 6/8 loop recorded from the Digitakt in 2019. Atop this, we added a Bass VI bassline and V-Synth choir pads. This piece, despite having undergone a later overdub plus a few ambient mix revisions, remains unreleased to this day.
Then came the pivotal moment when we finally revisited the use of a random number generator as a source of creative inspiration. We were given Fairport Conventions's Liege & Lief and a compilation with the collected works of the Mexican post-punk band Size. Thus we recorded Corduroy 65, a piece which in due time became "An Interpretation of Our Own Story, currently available on our 2021 album Eight/Chance/Meetings.
The song is available for peer review on Bandcamp, Apple Music, YouTube, Spotify, and more.
