that one post talking about how op doesnt like the deux face situation is till pissing me off bc like. i keep seeing people in the reblogs like 'oh, i was rooting for them but i didnt realize they couldnt breathe or eat' and its like no!!!!!! that's not true!!!!! i dont know if the op of that post was just misinformed or deliberately lying but its SO frustrating to see people take it at face value. but i dont really have a right to be mad because i do that too sometimes! like im not mad at the people taking it at face value per se, because its not hard to believe that a deformed animal might be suffering, but in the case of deux face shes actually doing well, all things considered!!

She can get herself up from a standing position just fine! she just has trouble maintaining a stand so the family is working on building her leg muscles up. and she breathes fine, too! the only thing different is that she breathes through both noses at the same time. And she can also eat without issue! She is bottle fed for the time being, but the only reason she can't nurse is because of the standing issue, NOT because of any structural problems with her mouth!

Obviously we can't always know when an animal is in pain, but I think in this case there's absolutely nothing wrong with the family doing their best to fight for her. I don't think it's just a 'clout' thing either, because they have explicitly stated they're not allowing visitors or the media because they don't want her welfare to be impacted by that! there's this idea that people raising animals for products (meat, leather, milk, fur, etc) don't care about them, but when it comes to personal family farms thats usually as far from the truth as you can get. i urge you guys to look into the situation for yourselves

genuinely in tears about deux face btw. like I know she's just an animal and genetic abnormalities happen all the time and she's probably not gonna make it very long but she is alive! two weeks! she's alive and there's a video of her mom and other cows licking her and saying hi and she's in the sun and she can lift her head up and she's alive! it's just like. the perfect most poetic little bit of hope in the world right now. she's making it. and people love her. people from all over the country, all over the world, know about her and are holding out hope for her to make it. and she doesn't know me and I'll never see her in person but she matters. and I look at my two-headed calf tattoo and I look at the poem by laura gilpin and I look at deux face and I look at the stars and I'm overwhelmed by the beauty of it. there are twice as many stars as usual.

Let's be clear, just because I dont support human euthanasia doesn't mean I oppose it for animals. This is not "ableist" humans have other things to live for besides being majority comfortable on average. Animals do not. That's why mercy killing is a thing for animals but murder for humans. Humans and animals are different

who’s the most monstrous clone oc (if you’re comfortable with sharing it)

(All clones are capable of being scary, but some are a little scary all the time!!! Also, you implied one, but I have brought three hehe

Top right is Truffle, and she has the DNA of a Football Fish (and some other deep sea creatures). Despite all the teeth, she only eats tiny crustaceans, and she is a bit of a practical joker!!! Mostly luring in unsuspecting folks with her lure and then going BOO!!!

Top left is Rocky Road, and they are technically two clones with separate brains, despite being counted as one in the masterlist. They got some sorta bovine DNA, and they're rather skittish, as stumbling over their legs made them an easier target, but they are pretty sweet once they warm up to someone!

And then the last one, is probably more monstrous in terms of personality than appearance, but he is fuck-off huge (shout out to you anon who asked about giant clones!!!) His name is Chickpea, and he is a bad, bad boy!!! The muzzle and claw caps are not just a fashion statement, y'know!!! The collar is tho hehe

in general the rule is, the more of a mutation is visible on the outside, the more is wrong on the inside that you just cant see. i have absolutely no question that there are far more things wrong with that calf that are highly impacting quality of life, least of all because i'm very aware that in two-faced animals even the head that seems more developed can have horrific things wrong with it. the claim that this animal seems to be perfectly fine beyond the two faces is one that i do not trust in the slightest given how much you would need to look inside the body to be able to even tell that.

the brain scoop has a wonderful video from several years back, where they dissected a two-faced calf for the field museum, and if you can stomach it it's an excellent case study on why two-faced animals do not survive nor thrive.

I am here once again fresh off listening to that vegan teacher reaction videos to share some dairy farm information and wisdom that was not asked for but you get anyway

Calf hutches are used to provide the calves with safe, clean living spaces and offer airflow in the summer and protection from the wind and cold in the winter, and using calf hutches often leads to better health for the calves and easier tracking of any issues they might have as well as making sure they all get the same amount of milk (also, the milk substitute for calves smells amazing)

Essentially, they're cribs for babies. Calves have really bad immune systems, and if you can't easily see which one has diarrhea, then that calf could very well die and spread the issue to the others. Farmers dont want their animals to die. (Farm animals are not cheap. Even if they were born on your farm, if they die you're losing out on the money you could get from them. 5 month old steers can go for over 1000 dollars)

can not believe i have to put this out there but: being concerned for the welfare of an animal who has a condition that frequently leads to a slow, painful death is not ableism. its uh. basic animal husbandry

#humans can make informed decisions about their bodies. humans can decide how they want to be helped. humans can decide if they WANT to be #animals can't advocate for themselves and their health #the two-faced calf can't look at her caretakers and say 'im in pain. i can't breathe. my organs are failing.' #so it is up to humans to pay attention to animal health and to make the best decision to cause them the least pain and suffering #forcing an animal thats suffering to live is cruel #plain and simple #perhaps deux face will be a miracle case like frank and louie and live a long healthy life #but she may also be in pain and is more likely to suffer and die before she gets too old
