If you're in the US and make less than $73K, you are entitled to file your taxes for free. This is a service provided by Intuit and others, required by law, and which they do everything in their power to cheat you out of.

this is going to be so niche BUT if you're doing your income taxes with turbo tax, and you're under 25, and you're trying to use the free version but it's forcing you to use the deluxe version without telling you that you're trying to input a form or deduction that you can't do on free:

restart your tax return

when it prompts you to use turbotax's data from last year's return, press no.

you'll have to press all the buttons again but it really doesn't make a big difference in filling out the return because it's just asking your martial status and where you live etc.

when you get to the "deluxe is now $15!" page, just hit continue - at some point it will offer you deluxe again, but you should still be on free after hitting continue and you can just turn down deluxe.

finish the rest of your return as normal. you can connect to the CRA or whatever, it's just the turbotax info that is the problem.

this year deluxe is $15 if you're under 25, but last year it was free. so you probably used it last year if you filed with turbotax, and when it says "use your data from last return" it's also taking the version you used, which is forcing you into deluxe.

or maybe this was just a me problem. it pissed me off so bad trying to figure it out im posting this to maybe save someone the trouble lol

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT TURBO TAX

If you have a simple tax return and made under 60k last year, you qualify to do your taxes for free.

If you have ever paid turbo tax, they will hide the free option from you when filing your taxes. You can either create a new account or use their chat to have them give you a "downgrade" code so you can do it for free. If you do not, they will charge you over $100.

Also, there are many free options out there. Do not pay to do your taxes if you didn't make over 60k. Do not give money to people who keep the tax system complicated and terrible to line their pockets if you don't have to

Nap started at 4:30, woke up just now at 8. In my dream I was watching a youtube short where a guy was getting requests for scenarios that he would make a skit to involving "You'll be Back" from Hamilton. The shirk started out with him comically zooming into a comment from a whole bunch and him reading it out loud in a very distored autotune voice. The request was, " Son asks Dad to go for a ride. Car crash and death" or something like that. The voice broke into laughter when he got to "car crash" which made dream me laugh.

The skit (filmed in this guys bedroom, no real props, like an average tiktok):

Son askes dad if they can go for a ride. Dad says sure. In the car they hear a commercial for turbo tax, which in my dream was car insurance. The dad ignores it. Later, the son is on a motorcycle, he crashes and dies. When the dad finds out and is mourning, he ominously hears another turbo tax ad, but this time its blaming the sons death on the lack of turbo tax car insurance. The dad gets the insurance as the Hamilton song plays. End scene
