For anyone who does not remember or does not know, I'll re-define what a Big Bang is under the cut!

A Big Bang is a fandom-wide collaboration. Authors, artists, and betas come together to create heaps of new content over the course of a couple months.

Authors will first work on their fanfic. Any genre, any crossover, any au, any book. Be it ship content or gen fics- all creativity is welcome! The only requirement is that it be Infinity Train related.

Authors will be expected to write a 5k fic by the deadline. Artists will be assigned a fic after the first author check-in, in which they will be given a general summary and scene descriptions from their assigned fic.

Any art medium is accepted! Whether you use traditional, digital, musical, craft, or cosplay. If you have any questions about your preferred medium and potential participation, message me for more details.

488 words of self indulgent soft fluff for the night - Guz/Junebug

Soft breathing, slow breathing. Rain pattering against the roof, quiet creaks as the house settles and wild rattatas scamper around in the dark. Juno lies awake, listening to it all, staring up at the ceiling. 

They woke up some time ago, one of the gentler wake-ups they’ve experienced. So gentle, in fact, that Guz.ma has continued to sleep soundly beside them, even as they’d gasped to catch their breath for the first minute or two. That had been - Juno turns to the chair placed next to their side of the bed as a make-shift bedside table, picking up their phone to check the time - about a half hour ago. They still can’t fall back asleep.

As they nestle back down into the mattress, their phone left back on the chair, Guz.ma lets out a sleepy sigh. He rolls over to face them, eyes closed, hopefully still asleep. Juno smiles fondly and brushes the hair back from his face, smoothing out the frown starting to wrinkle at the top of his nose. Groaning softly, he scrunches his face under their gentle hands. “You awake?” he slurs out, still keeping his eyes shut.

“Maybe,” Juno says lightly, moving their hands to cup his face. They rub their thumbs along the tops of his cheeks, eyes following the patterns they trace against his skin. 

He purses his lips at them, eyebrows knitting. “S’morning?” he asks.

They sigh, running a finger down the side of his nose. “Not really.” Their eyes stay focused on the tips of their fingers, seemingly absorbed in the paths they follow.

Finally, he blinks his eyes open, gazing at them blearily. “Nightmare?”

Juno doesn’t respond. Guz.ma knows.

Heaving out another groan, he bats their hands away from his face, opting to just grab them bodily and pull them to his chest. “D’you need to talk about it?” he asks, sighing contentedly once they’re safely tucked against his body, chin resting on top of their head.

“I think you need to sleep,” they mumble, eyes still open, staring off into space.

Guz.ma lets out a soft snort, rubbing a hand up and down his partner’s back. “I can stay awake for a bit.”

Juno hums disbelievingly.

“What? Can’t sleep anyways, knowing my snugglebug’s lyin’ awake like this.” He squeezes them lightly.

They hum again, a little softer this time. Closing their eyes, they rest their head gently against his clavicle and slowly breathe in, taking in his familiar scent and listening to his heart beating steadily. 

Pressing a kiss against the top of their head, he smiles. “Y’don’t gotta talk about it if you don’t want to.” His chest rumbles with each word. “Just know you’re safe, I’ve got you.”

Juno nods slowly as their muscles finally relax, letting their body melt into his. While his hands smooth up and down their back, holding them securely, they drift back to sleep, heartbeat slowing and steadying to match Guz.ma’s.

so my mom decided to give away MY cake to HER colleague's family that had come over. like we get it, you value pleasing others and looking like a good person above everything else, but give away YOUR slice of cake for that???? i didn't even know and i had a bad day and was REALLY looking forward to the treat, but i found the fridge empty and it was like a slap to the face. she didn't even apologise and would probably argue that im being so selfish instead and im. so fucking mad.

imo good character-establishing things to have for pcs are like

- the usual why are they on this adventure, why are they w this group, etc

- what's one personality trait that drives them to do the stupid but fun thing

- what's one aspect that might make them act in ways contrary to how they do normally (including Not doing the stupid thing if it wouldn't be fun)

that last one is beneficial for the collaborative aspect of ttrpgs: if everyone else wants to do x, & as a player u wanna cooperate but ur pc would be opposed, how can u navigate that? there's still times to dig ur heels in, but often I've found more value in establishing Why or How my character can be convinced to go along w smth anyway

also just. ppl contradict themselves sometimes, & having even a simple sense of that in ur pcs can both make rp richer & assist in collaborating w the other ppl at ur table

sometimes im worried im in a bubble of compassionate people, but then i go outside of tumblr. when i check in on instagram, take a peek onto twitter, reposted tiktoks, fucking splatoon, apparently also roblox. images and videos of people angry and protesting, and people, including children, saying the most they can with what social media outlet they have.

no matter how much they try, media giants and coorperations can't hide what the masses think. i think my college blocked a donation site to palestine, tumblr is keeping related tags off trending, twitter is doing the same, google searches lead to misinformation and news outlets are cherry-picking, lying, or not reporting at all. world leaders vote and give money to end a people.

but even with they're power, they are few. citizens from all over the world are many. everywhere you look online, millions of people won't let you forget, won't let them forget. even if it's not right outside your window.

i just. i love the human spirit, human compassion and love in the face of human evil.

I created a Userstyle for the Chrome/Firefox Stylus Extension that reverts the new dashboard to the old format. This took a lot of tweaking and it's not perfect at all, but if anyone wants it I'll be uploading it soonish now!

You need to have Stylus installed. So if you don't have it:

Install the Stylus Firefox Addon or the Chrome Extension (You can install Chrome Extensions on Edge as well)

Once it's installed into Firefox/Chrome/Edge you can proceed with adding this style or any other.

To add the style, follow the instructions:

Click on "install".

Style will open a tag with it and in the left side you'll have a button that says "install style", click there. (Step-by-step copied from the lovely dorothyoz39 who wrote this in a reply!) Only two columns in Masonry view. Unfixable, Tumblr creates columns based on monitor size, if I try adding another column (because it doesn't exist) it just perpetually loads on screen. Tempfix: Zoom out in chrome/firefox and it adds more columns

Search bar doesn't appear on some pages (like viewing a post), this is because Tumblr removed the search bar on those pages completely. Unfixable!

Tumblr has ONCE AGAIN CHANGED THE ACCOUNTS MENU. The menus are now shorter and have less information on them. This is unfortunately permanent. I do not see any way to fix this. Unfixable.

If you want people's icons to stay fixed in place, instead of scrolling with the dashboard add;

to the top of the code! You can also create a second userstyle by clicking the 'tumblr.com' part of the link in 'Write new Style' and adding the code in there! That way you don't have to worry about re-adding it when you update.

Solved issues: (Update)

Menus need to be manually closed SOLVED! in V.4 and updated in V.5! The menu & icon WILL scroll with you if you have removed the sticky header CSS, however, clicking anywhere on screen will make the Menu disappear still.

Masonry view in searches is now fixed!

I recently encountered yet another tumblr user who didn't realize that the Blog Settings option to hide your blog from search engines also includes tumblr's own search. It's surprisingly common in my experience, where people for years complain that search is broken for their blog, or that their posts don't show up in the public tags/search, but have no idea it was their own choice that put them in that situation. I know that the explainer text for the "discourage searching of [blog]" option is definitely more detailed than it used be, but if you haven't checked your settings since then, well...

Anyway, is it possible that the option could be separated into "hide from external search engines" and "hide from tumblr's search"? For people who would prefer not to be googleable (and assumed that's the only thing the option was doing) but are ok with their posts showing up in tumblr's own search.

Or possibly the options could be "hide from external search engines" and "turn off tumblr search for my blog"? Or at the very least, could there be further explainer text that hiding your from tumblr's search means that your blog's own searchbar won't ever find anything?

Well, what do you know. We were looking at this same issue just recently and could not agree more: this setting really should be separated. Ideally, it would look a little something like this:

We need to take another look at this, as splitting search settings into Tumblrs vs. others makes a whole lot of sense. What is less clear is when a member of the team will have the capacity to work on it.

But rest assured we will be adding this to our agenda, and will be in touch with you with updates as and when we have them. And we hope you do not have to wait too long for news on this. We’ll keep you posted!

Don’t want search engines to crawl your blog, but still want your posts to appear in Tumblr search and in-blog search? We’ve now split the existing setting for excluding your blog from search into two, letting you choose to hide posts from external search engines, Tumblr search, or both! If you previously had this toggled on or off, your existing preference was copied to the new setting.

Speaking of search, we have increased the limit of indexed tags from 20 to 30. This only applies to new posts.

SMS text Two-factor Authentication codes were not arriving, and this is now fixed. For a more secure experience, we recommend using an authenticator app for your Two-Factor Authentication codes, and don’t forget to save your backup codes!

Some ads were stopping people from scrolling for a few seconds, this has been fixed.

With Bing’s policy change to no longer use content they index for their search engine for AI training unless opted in to, we are now allowing Bing to index posts from blogs that allow search indexing. We continue to discourage Bing’s crawling for AI training.

New Desktop Dash, No Bueno

Okay so, new dash layout on desktop.

As seems to be a common reaction: not a fan.

Let's talk about some of the issues:

1. Really visually cluttered

The new sidebar crowds out the dashboard content and the bright blue popup notifications (now at the side AND top) and create-post bar pull your eyes in different directions. There is no space for the eye to rest on anymore - it's all noise. The end result is that everything flattens - there's no focal point anymore.

It's also pretty overwhelming - even for someone like me - so I can't imagine it would be very user-friendly to someone who was photosensitive or struggled with visual overload (especially when paired with the high-contrast 'true blue' default site palette and animated icons for the changes-on-tumblr/staff-picks/trending buttons).

2. The activity pop-up now covers dashboard content

This is really bad from a usability standpoint. In the old layout the activity pop-up used to drop down over the recommended blogs sidebar. Now it actively gets in the way of looking at core content. The dash is why we are here, burying it like this is baffling.

The search bar now drops down over the recommended blogs banner instead, but where the old design had non-critical space on each side of the dashboard to visually allow both features to pop in, this new layout is way worse for efficiency. And for what? Having a rarely-used former drop-down menu now permanently active? The old banner with quick-links for the key use-features (notes, messages, askbox) made much more design sense.

It also means that the activity pop-up gets now completely covered by the blog pop-up that opens when you click the notification, so double demerit there. 0/10.

3. It's harder to navigate to the activity page, and the new page-stretch means you can't see new notes without scrolling down

That first bit is kind of a nitpick but cramming the 'See everything' link down at the bottom of a browser window isn't a great navigation choice. (Again, the visual signifiers and eye-direction in this new design are incredibly poor.)

That the main activity page now requires you to scroll to even see the top note due to the new display ratio is really egregious. It makes another key site feature just slightly less convenient and accessible in a very irritating way. Bad choice.

4. The new ratio pushes the Radar and Main Sponsored slot completely off-screen

This one is directed the tumblr staff: that's also a bad choice, guys. That's your main ad-slot for people loading into Tumblr so hiding it is going to hurt both your ad-impressions and your ability to promote the ad-free option. The new layout ratio also means that the in-dash ads are going to be a lot more invasively screen-filling - and let's be real most users will either add-block or leave before purchasing ad-free. I have no idea what the new layout is trying to achieve but if ad optimisation is the goal then this ain't it, chief.

To be honest I cannot comprehend the rationale for this change. I guess it's visually a bit more like Twitter... but that site is currently being demolished from the inside by poor management decisions so maybe it's not the best aesthetic to be aping.

Okay so, new dash bad. And so, in true Tumblr spirit: we complain. However, to get results we must deploy the art of kvetching productively.

If you want the old dash back (or at least, a better new-dash design that corrects some of these big weaknesses) what you should do is head over to https://www.tumblr.com/support and lodge a feedback ticket pointing out the problems. The more users who do that, the more likely you are to see an effective response.

Remember, tagging @staff and @support in posts won't fix this. There's no guarantee they'll see it among the notes barrage.

Also: please don't be rude or abusive when you lodge tickets. Whoever is manning those blogs and inboxes probably isn't the person who forced through this change. Save an intern, be polite.

Go forth in disgruntlement to keep this hellhole a hellhome.
