Considering nobody’s mentioned
Certain.
Characters.
I’ll ask you about them.
No.1:
Are there any more Hit Era characters, for example Dennis.
No.2:
How does Mighty Mac work?
Do they have two stomaches?
No.3:
Can the Culdee Fell engines eat from the faces on their back?
And lastly No.4:Who’s the list of Mid Sodor engines in YOUR AU.
#1
There’s Molly and Murdoch, AND Arthur. Those three are still existing AND on the island, a lot of engines just rarely see them, except James who sometimes ditches work to see Molly. Actually, now that I’m talking about Molly…she’s a quite a self-depreciative engine in my au. Always cracking a bit of humour about how ugly she looks and the stuff she pulls, thinking she doesn’t deserve to pull passengers and prefers pulling dirty trucks. Her old railway was never good to her, which is kinda the reason why she’s got those issues. Other than that, she’s an introvert, but can be optimistic when she likes.
Murdoch is still the same engine he was before. When he became a beast, he was more of a curious animal. He’s often seen around the mainline, pulling goods or just wandering around, which gives train enthusiasts the perfect chance to get up close to him to either feed or pet him.
Arthur is still at the coastal village, aiming to keep his record clean of any mishaps. He often wanders around the village or goes for a little dip in the shallow pools. He mostly eats fish, and often has his crew complaining about it.
#2
Mighty Mac is pretty much a catdog situation. No one knows if they have separate stomachs, not even them.
As for the legs, they don’t have any hind legs since they’re the same engine, sooo….they just have eight front legs.
#3
Yes! The Culdee Fell engines can very much eat from both ends. They also have stubby little tails so they don’t block their back faces too.
#4
Duke, Smudger, Freddie (it was mentioned he canonically used to work on the MSR in the TV series), Jennings, Albert, John, Tim, Gerry, Alfred, Jim and there’s also Stanley, but not the RWS Stanley. I’ve also deciding whether or not I could give Mighty Mac a MS background.

7/7 HAPPY late 7/7: have Eddie “Alaric” Gyeon, Fredrick”Fearless Freddie” Russell, Ivo Hugh Barclay, and Tobias “Toby”Stratford-Smith
Tumblr media
Freddie’s (and alaric) design was inspired by @vita940124 and @radarvision/@gadgetini while Alaric was inspired by glowynviator’s cfr designs on Twitter.
Random notes like Alaric real name is Eddie. It’s just a nickname and he’s half Korean because I got inspired by the Korean translation of his name so he and his twin brother Eric cool design next month they’re twins and half Korean and surname symbolism, like his name in scenery or view, and I totally fits the culdee fell railway , he seen at the more optimistic and loud twin. He has dyslexia and dyscalculia alongside his brother, both r kind and friendly folks.
Freddy gives me that chill cool parent vibes, and I like to think he has like so many scars from his tails, because when he was younger, he was much more reckless and little to no sense of self preservation. Hence the scars (like the scars are in space there from when ammunition’s accident, they exploded) like he suffers from sensorineural hearing loss, so he needs a his hearing aid and he’s very good at doing both ASL and BSL.
I will is baby I bet him off a lot of 90s fades like you know those overall jumpers such as the one from the fresh prince of Belair like plaid camo striped outfits I mainly got it from Pinterest. I would positive here, but it will be really long ha ha and of course I chose every shade of purple like a fine, because I was usually seen in purple in Trainz and of course I gave him cool kicks many converse cause they were also really popular and plus of course is Lil tamogachi. He probably gave it a like full long name but his nickname is grapefruit. Also, I found out here he and Duncan r technically cousins, so I’m trying to figure how it works.
and, of course, Toby I am making a huge au based off of Tobias and half pariah and I feel like that’s where people tend to have it as a nickname and this is like a real thing but it’s not but you know I am like a huge sucker for this movie so of course I’m again told you I was gonna draw him with Henrietta but I guess I was late for the eight you and you know fun fun, soft grandpa cottage core vibes both he and ivo have glasses (square frames of course though ivo gets them later on and he totally based them off of Toby’s Toby’s cries.)

Who’s an engine who’s backstory you would change, and how? (LOVE your stuff!💚)
Molly, in that I would give her one.
Entire absence of backstory excluded, though, I actually find this a difficult question! It is my way generally to try very hard to reconcile all information given, even if it sucks. I enjoy the challenge of making unfortunate narrative choices work. Too, most of the stuff about various characters that I don't like are problems with the way they're used in the present, not the backstory itself.
For example, I almost went with Freddie because his backstory (that he is a very old engine who was sent away a long time ago and has now returned) is incongruent with everything else we know about the Skarloey Railway. But this is in a context where what we know has already been thrown out the window. Otherwise, I might press X to doubt about specifically when it was that Freddie was supposed to have worked there enough to learn the line so well, but I could buy it if Skarloey was the one excited to see him and not Sir Handel. That way, Freddie could be plausibly old, but not older than the Little Old Engines. Maybe he was just on loan to the SR for a few years or something, not long enough to be noted in the extensive information we've been given about the SR.
A lot of HiT era additions occurred to me as possibilities but most of them are variants of the two above scenarios: either they have no backstory to speak of or the backstory would be workable if the rest of the show hadn't forgotten who everyone in it was.
Considered Norman for a hot second because he doesn't really have a backstory as given, but I feel like the CGI gives you enough of him for you to want to know more. But again, that problem is just that he has no backstory. Except, I looked his ass up and apparently his backstory is that he feels he breaks down too often and Dennis is his twin brother? So he actually has a great backstory, it just never got used. What you could do with him, as an engine who wishes he could work harder if not for his apparent ails, who happens to be brothers with the laziest motherfucker to ever grace Sodor's rails? Hmm!
Also briefly hovered on Hugo, because of all the characters that have ever been introduced, he's the only one that I just do not find interesting in any way. But I actually like having at least one guy on this goddamn show who didn't manage to grow on me after I decided I didn't like them.
But then I remembered.
If I could change any engine's backstory, it would be Stanley.
Stanley was introduced in The Great Discovery, which is in my opinion, the worst of the movies. Yes, even worse than Misty Island Rescue. Yes, even worse than Thomas and the Magic Railroad! Because while both of those movies are just dreadful, they are at least not boring. There's enough fucking wat shit going on in them that they keep you busy with lampoons. Caint say the same for The Great Discovery. The Great Discovery is like if you were trying to scientifically engineer a way to reflexively make someone check their watch that they do not have in the year of our lord 2022.
Also, Stanley has the same backstory (such as it is) as Ryan, but with Ryan it was executed better.
Stanley seems like a cool guy in the CGI though. Honestly, I would love if he'd gotten an episode or two. I think he deserves it. I think he's probably only in the CGI because he got a surge in popularity after the guy sent his toy into the stratosphere, but it's a waste just to have him do cameos. But it's hard when all he's got going for him character-wise is he came to sub in for Thomas and Thomas got smuckers about it but now they cool. Conflict's been resolved so what else you got?
I think I read somewhere that he's military surplus? And his livery looks medical. He's generally used for shunting and there's that one moment in "Pouty James" where James demands to know where the coaches he was pulling the day before are and Stanley has to tell him, all retail-like, that Edward took them for the day. He's described as empathetic, but I think if one reframed it more as him having good bedside manner... Like a nurse, though, not a doctor.
I think it'd make a nice comparison to Victor who also has good bedside manner but because he actually works in what is effectively engine medicine, he almost never needs to bust down an engine's sense of entitlement since he's taken as the authority to begin with. Stanley works in a position that, if one is not careful with how they let other engines treat them, can lend one to getting pushed around and taken advantage of.
So he's all smiles and helpfulness and optimistic of outcomes and he'll put up with some hysterics because he understands about delicate train feefees and egos and that how he's being treated in this moment isn't about him, but there eventually would come a point where he'd have to say enough was enough. He'd still do it in a way that de-escalates because he'd rather go along to get along and he ain't out to make others feel bad, but it would be clear there'd be no further histrionics in his yard over who got what stock today. Someone, somewhere, is getting their legs sawn off and they would love to be an engine taking cars of scrap to Reg's instead.
(Thanks for the question and the compliment! :D )

How about Fearless Freddie?
Tumblr media
I always hoped he would come back in the CGI era
1.This is hardly original, but that's a Mid Sodor boy, I'll tell you what. He typically did goods work, but was known to take passengers from time to time.
2. After the MSR closed, Freddie was used as a stationary boiler somewhere in Marthwaite. When the Arlesdale Railway was built, Freddie was bought by The Thin Controller and restored.
3. Contrary to popular belief, it wasn't Skarloey and Rheneas who challenged Freddie to a race, but Sir Handel himself! The two engines used to race on the MSR (Much to Duke's chagrin) and wanted to relive the old days, only to derail on a bad bit of track that Rusty hadn't gotten to yet. They haven't raced since.
4. While Freddie occasionally works on the mainline with the other engines, he spends most of his time at the wharf. He rides a little roughly sometimes, and finds that the trucks are somehow less likely to pay him out than the coaches.
5. Despite carrying the number seven, Freddie is officially the SR's number ten. The real seven is Duke, while Bertram and Mighty Mac are eight and nine, respectively. Freddie's number plate is a carryover from his Mid Sodor days.

This is an humanized AU I came up with. The name is ttte City of rodos (also sodor). It is an humanized + modern reincarnation parody. There may be a few sf elements.
Ivo Hugh…name in this AU is Ivo. He has just started university and is the adopted son of Frederick (Freddie)
Freddie…name in this AU is Frederick. Tanned-skinned man. Ivo's adoptive father. Called Freddie by everyone.
Sir Handel…Name in this AU is Falcon. Welsh man with long hair. Always wears a blue tie. He is soft and mild-mannered, but according to Stuart, he was a black-hearted person in his childhood. For some reason, he lacks memories of that childhood.
Peter Sam…his name in this AU is Stuart. A slightly chubby Welsh man. Always wears a green tie. Good-natured and hard-working.

I like your Sodor internet headcanon, and your Skarloey railway one.
Do you have any other Skarloey railway headcanons?
naur bc the way i literally forgot this ask existed for several months akdkl;fsa;kldjf;asldk
but yeah go ahead have my Skarloey Railway fleet HCs
-The first six engines arrived pretty much exactly as in canon.
-Before Rusty, there was a No. 5 diesel called Lana. She was built initially as a slate truck for the line’s opening, before being selected for conversion into an engine in 1952. She had been a rather troublesome truck, though her conversion into an engine and naming was ultimately what caused her to wise up, as she now experienced pulling trucks from the engine’s point of view. She even pulled coaches on the odd occasion. Sadly, this only lasted one year, and she was withdrawn due to a failed gearbox. She was converted back into a slate truck, though has retained her newfound wisdom from her time as an engine. There is debate about whether she should be restored to her former status as an engine.
-The number 7, too, has had a rather interesting history. Before Ivo Hugh, it belonged to a railway traction engine (with 4-2-0 wheel arrangement) called Luan, built in 1954. She acted as station pilot at Crovan’s Gate for a while, giving the likes of Sir Handel and Peter Sam time to rest in between their trains. She was withdrawn in 1958 and sold on to another railway.
-No. 8, like in canon, is Duke.
-Freddie is spelled “Freddy” in this AU as his full name is Freddy Fazbear. He is still based on the NWNGR “Russell”, and is the Skarloey Railway’s No. 9. He was built in 1906 for the same railway as his twin, at this time without a name, and worked there until that closed in 1937. He was left in the shed until requisitioned for World War 2 in 1939. He worked at a steelworks until the war ended, at which point he was sold to a tramway in Dorset. After that tramway also closed, he was bought by the Skarloey Railway and restored at Crovan’s Gate. By the time he was ready, in 1987, Duke had already been in service for four years, so he was given the name “Freddy Fazbear” and the number 9 when he at last entered traffic.
-Mighty Mac was built in 1992 as a new build engine at Crovan’s Gate works, becoming the railway’s No. 10. No one quite knows how they got to have two faces, but it’s just how they are and the other engines have learned to accept it.
-Luke, No. 11, was built in 1903 and worked on numerous industrial railways before being sold to the Skarloey in 1996.
Bertram, No. 12, was built for the opening of the Mid-Sodor Railway in 1880, and was abandoned there even longer than Duke, until Toby found an old line that connected up with it and discovered him in 1998. He was restored at Crovan’s Gate after the events of Toby’s Discovery.

ohhhhh, you want characters that don't have much said about them, eh...
hmm... Fearless Freddie?
Tumblr media
Fearless Freddie offended me as a kid, because I was familiar with Ivo Hugh via Wooden Railway, his Character Card, and internet descriptions of Book 40. He was the ever-elusive Skarloey Railway No. 7, and I loved to imagine what he was like and how cool it would be if he'd been in any of my TV episodes... then Season 10 comes along and was like "forget Ivo Hugh, we have a newer, cooler, more marketable Skarloey Railway No. 7!"
I was upset. Then I got his Wooden Railway toy and was a bit less upset, because his design is pretty cool to be honest. I still never really liked him in the show, since I hated how they ruined the Skarloey Railway engines' personalities (and most other engines' personalities) in the HiT Model Era. I still don't like that they made him No. 7, because I'm sure they knew Ivo Hugh was a character that was out there. They were still selling Wooden Railway toys of him! And also, if they were going to continue the numbering sequence after Duncan, why did they not start with Mighty Mac???
I almost forgot the thing about Sir Handel knowing him. I think it'd be easy to retcon this into being about Sir Handel knowing him from the Mid Sodor Railway, though that wouldn't explain how well he knows these Skarloey Railway tracks... but there's a lot more that needs retconning in that episode, such as Skarloey's and Rheneas's personalities (and Sir Handel's, come to think of it). It would be cool if he had that kind of history behind him, though. He could even be the Mid Sodor's No. 7 instead, and that way we can avoid conflicting with Ivo Hugh!
Oh wait, we know what the MSR's numbers 5-7 are now... that means he got Tim too!!! /j
I'm sure he's a nice guy, and he does have a pretty awesome design... but I can't get over the merciless slaughter of my son Ivo, who deserved more than Christopher Awdry gave him 💔
