Just finished the new Paulo Interlude chapter and I have some Thoughts...

I thought it was really funny that Ghetsis was getting more pissed off at Paulo's dog than at Paulo himself. and then he fucking VAPORIZED it. holy shit

I never thought I would feel satisfied seeing a character turn into a villain but in Paulo's case it's just...so satisfying to see his slow descent into villainy finally pay off.

His new theme slaps BTW. In a “holy shit he’s finally snapped” kinda way

It seems like a bit of a double standard that it's considered completely normal for a Trainer to form a sync pair with more than one Pokémon but when a Pokémon tries to form a sync pair with more than one Trainer it's treated like you're tearing friends apart. I know Paulo and Hoopa aren't exactly a sync pair since Paulo is apparently just controlling Hoopa with his sync stone, but still, the fact that Pokémon can't form sync pairs with multiple Trainers is something I've been thinking about for a while...

Which reminds me, I can't believe Giovanni is the only villain who's realized just how broken the power of sync stones is. These things can substitute for a Key Stone/Mega Stone, Z-Ring/Z-Crystal, Dynamax Band, and now the Prison Bottle? Is there anything sync stones can't do?

Now that Paulo's taken Hoopa and gone full villain, I think it's about time that Lear comes back and completes his character arc by being the voice of reason for Paulo the same way Cheren was for him. They foreshadowed it way back in the PML arc, and with how many things finally got paid off in this chapter, I think I trust the writers to pay that off too.

We also got the last art for the Villain Arc Memories collection! I really am nervous that they might resolve Paulo becoming a villain too soon. (I'd rather get him/Giovanni/Ghetsis all causing problems on Pasio next arc than another PML.)

i could never understand why paulo struggles being a trainer when he was starting out

like bro

you have a rock type

which is like, a good typing starting out

how tf you keep losing to your rival he literally has a pikachu (which could only deal normal/electric type moves)

in that situation its either the pikachu is just overleveled or rockruff is just extremely underleveled

"oh no my rockruff's weak and useless so theyre better off as death fodder so that the stronger pokemon in my team can win"

sure sacrificing your pokemon can help you gain tempo in your team

but

dude just buy a shit ton of healing items and level up your pokemon

those snobby youngsters usually have normal/poison type pokemon, your dog can sweep them easily and get the money to buy items

Yeah so that Paulo Interlude that just came out... Poor Paulo and Tina...I was not expecting us to get the backstory for the two for them so quickly. You can tell how much of an impact losing their wild Dratini friend to a heartless collector had an impact on both of them. What I really appreciated was how we see how Tina and Paulo responded to that event. We see that Paulo took that loss hard and vowed to become stronger so he could protect others. This explains why he took his loss so hard during the PML league tournament which was exacerbated by losing to Giovanni later on. He’s worried he may not be able to protect what he cares for  Tina was also clearly affected by the event, but yet she went down a separate path thanks to meeting trainers at a Pokemon graveyard who talked about their Pokemon who have passed on. She realizes their time is limited with her team and chooses to focus on cherishing the time she has with them Paulo wants to protect. Tina wants to cerish. Both of them are valid in the ways they responded to that sad childhood event. Colress even recognizes this yet cautions Tina and the player that straying too far to one side may have disastrous unintended side effects and that maintaining a balance in the middle is the most ideal.  Given the fact that Tina has now been captured and Paulo is going alone I’m curious to know what’s going to go down now. I feel like this is seting up his true fall to the dark side because I can’t imagine they aren’t going to make him lose badly that he ends up agreeing to join the villain’s side or just maybe not joining the villainous team but becoming villainous himself

I know I've poo-poo'd on this Anniversary a fair bit so far, but it is interesting to note that Hoopa Unbound is placed with Giovanni here, at least. I wonder if he will still play a major role next arc, and him getting his hands on Hoopa is what brings Paulo to his senses.
