🤩 - what’s something they’re absolutely amazed by?

i’ve talked about this before but gilbert never ceases to be amazed by any advancement in medical science, no matter how big or small it is. he’s just so constantly in awe of how people continuously find solutions and cures to injuries and illnesses that surely would have been a death sentence a couple hundred years ago. of course, being amazed by how the human body works ties into this as well. it’s impressive how resilient the average person’s body is, even without the extraordinary healing abilities that nations have. 

😤 - what’s something that will always, without fail, make them angry?

for real though, if we’re talking just minor annoyances, gilbert can’t stand a messy space. it’s fine if it’s in a bit of a mess while the space is being used / worked in, but it better be cleaned up afterwards. he doesn’t like it when anyone who’s not a close friend or family member steps too close into his personal space, even less so when said person tries to initiate unwarranted physical contact beyond the customary first handshake.

it’s hard to get gilbert really, truly angry ; unless someone made the mistake of hurting one of his loved ones. that’s a one-way ticket to permanently being on his bad side for at least the next couple centuries. he also absolutely has no patience for anyone who neglects or mistreats children and anyone who willingly stay ignorant to proven medical facts. every time he sees an online post spreading misinformation he wants to bang his head against the wall.

1. What does your writing process look like? 

answered here!  but tl;dr it is pathetic. 

6. What kind of research do you put into your writing?

i’m ... a little bit obsessive actually!  though i think in this rpc that’s actually quite common.  ... as obsessive as one can be about researching a micronation of all things, anyway! 

i ordered a bunch of old radio essex interviews / broadcast excerpts on CDs (a few small pieces of which i’ve actually posted!! 1 2 3 4 5), i have prince michael’s book, there’s this really great look into internet crypto in the form of a gigantic pdf titled “sealand, havenco, and the rule of law” in case anybody’s into That, i post so many photos of the place that i once got an anon asking if i LIVE THERE, i’ve found transcripts of certain legal proposals / communications regarding sealand, i’ve dug pretty deep into learning about fort madness and pirate radio... that sort of thing!  i do have a history page where i paraphrased basically all of it, but i havent got off my ass to update it since 2014 and i think i have the occasional detail wrong in there, like specific dates and such.

10. What’s the most challenging thing about writing replies for you?

starting!!  even if i know exactly what i intend to do in my reply, figuring out exactly how to start takes up most of my time.  i usually cheat this by starting off with a line of dialogue, if possible 

17. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

answered here, but tl;dr unfortunately it tires me out!  and that’s a big part of why i’m Pretty Slow and don’t usually involve myself in time-sensitive threads or Dash Awareness type interactions.  i get tired really fast! 

20. What inspires you to write?

aside from an overpowering love for my son and shining star who i will love forever and ever for my whole life until death and well after, i really love seeing how my partners react to my replies, and i like getting reactions out of them! 

among other things of course, but that’s what’s coming to mind currently. 

25. Do you put parts of yourself into your writing or muse? Can you give an example?

to an outrageous degree, yes!  i don’t think any of my characters are remotely close to self-inserts, but i really can’t write a character who i don’t at least 40% relate to - though, i think this is true for a lot of people? 

mk helped me with the examples so ... TALKS A LOT, wants to be entertaining, apparently the way i describe his posture or gestures are things i also do (which i didnt realize!), and the way he reacts to being angry or upset, being physically knocked to the ground with the force of how hard he’s laughing, etc.  that kind of thing! 

31. How different is your muse now compared to when you first wrote them? 

i really didn’t have a clue what i was doing when i first started - of course - but i did know that i wanted him to a bit more combative than he was usually portrayed, because i just thought it felt more fitting, and even when i first started i knew i wanted to distance myself from the sort of... Stock Annoying Child Character Personality with all the Child Character Tropes tacked on for no reason other than he was, for a time, the only young character and only micronation in the cast, so all Child Tropes got attributed to him, and even after other micros got introduced, the effect of this still persists - that almost everybody gives sealand before ever considering what his personality would actually be like. 

so i thought if i made him a bit more disagreeable, it might surprise people into paying attention to how i’m writing him, and not just go off of fandom assumptions.  (this was 2012, so that kind of thing happened!)

this is a whole other rant that i’m apparently just chomping at the bit to go off on, but i need to actually finish this post omg 

anyway, he went thru a time where he was sort of being attacked and derided on almost all sides even by his friends, fighting with people constantly and not being listened to in any capacity about it, and over time it wore him down and it resulted in him being VERY defensive, stern, panicky, and irritable.  he’s much better now! 

38. Do you have a wishlist? Can you share what’s on it?

you know ... this is weird, but, i actually can’t think of anything!  lmao sorry !!

What kind of research do you put into your writing?

Answered here. But, to add onto that, I also read some articles from the Moscow Times, an English-language newspaper aimed at future expats (to Russia) which has a pro-state attitudes from time to time to absorb the outward image of Russia... a little bit, at least. I also try to watch films and series about Russia, read classic literature, listen to Russian funeral rave music which slaps SO hard... ... and I joined a Russian folk music ensemble. What’s the most challenging thing about writing replies for you?

Definitely keeping up with them all. I don’t use a tracker or preserve my likes/drafts to hold replies, because if I don’t feel the inspo for it, I’ll just stop... but I also tend to forget about some threads that I didn’t mean to drop. That, and being a full time student with full time extracurricular activities, or being at my full time summer employment (cancelled for COVID-19) where I spend 80+ hours a week without reliable internet and work over twelve hours a day. It’s a summer camp, it’s not abuse, but it’s definitely a hard labor of love. Do you think it’s important to know someone OOC in order to rp?

Definitely not. I loved the site Cherubplay because you just JUMP YOUR ASS IN without any prior planning, but that kind of interaction isn’t the norm on Tumblr. And, it didn’t always work out to make a winning thread when all was said and done... but it was a lot of fun to react and write “naturally”.  I wish I did more there sometimes. My favorite RP ever was on there, and I still talk to that person even though they left the fandom.

Does your writing style change when you write different muses?

No, actually! At least, I don’t think so. I can’t really pull up receipts, but it’s pretty similar. Of course, the nature of worldbuilding changes from fics to different RP sites, but.... I wouldn’t really call that stylistic.

Do you have a wishlist? Can you share what’s on it?

Definitely, although a lot of this is more like a to-do list.

Write more on Masha’s blog and have some nineteenth century lesbian girlfriends being cute.

Write more between Russia and other post-Soviet states like his siblings and the baltics.

Get the inspiration to write out Ivan and Masha’s timelines and replace their bios with that.

Ivan to find an IC therapist. I’d love doing that, even if I reblogged between two of my own blogs.

(( Do they have a tell when lying/bluffing?

maddie is capable of lying so well that she sometimes believes her own lies. she can easily lie about little things, lie by omission (easiest way to lie in her opinion), and even lying about serious things. however, she never lies maliciously. she never lies to purposely hurt others but it tends to happen when one isn’t being truthful. there are times when lying doesn’t come so easily depending on the situation and it’s usually not very hard to tell that she’s not being completely forthcoming. she’ll avoid eye contact, speak softer, and / or shrink back.

How do they feel about touch?

absolutely loves it, can’t get enough lol. she’s very touch starved but won’t communicate that unless she’s very close with you and even then she might be hesitant to even ask for a hug. she’s afraid of seeming weak or a burden somehow for wanting physical affection. touch is very important to her but unfortunately doesn’t receive it often.

What do their footsteps sound like? Could anyone recognize them from that sound alone?

depends on where she is. if she’s at work, you’ll hear the assertive click of her heels down the hallway, confident and with purpose. if she’s out in public she’ll still walk with purpose and poise but is much more relaxed. i think you’d have to pay close attention to how she walks and moves in order to recognize her from that sound alone.

Tell a random fact about them!

despite looking like the sweetest cinnamon roll ever, madeleine is very talented with guns and fighting. she became one of the top marksmen after america declared independence and knew a war was coming, also becoming very skilled at wielding a bayonet. ))

2  What is something you think you need to work on?

Considering I’m not a native English speaker, I would say grammar. Prepositions still sometimes fuck with me, and tenses are weird. Hopefully, I am not horrible! Thank Jesus for Grammarly. 

8.  What do you look for in a thread?

I love long, plot filled and character-driven threads. I don’t mind shorter replies, but if they are really short after I go all out I can get discouraged sometimes. But honestly, if the plot is good and their writing vibes with mine, I’m down for whatever. 

13.  What do you look for in an RP partner?

Vibes! If we can talk and chat, that makes me more inclined to both reply and write more stuff. But I would also prefer someone who likes to write as much as I do, whose style is similar to mine, and someone with who my characters click. I usually don’t seek out people who are rude/cold/mean to me, so. If you’re not that, we’re gonna be chill.

27.  What makes you want to engage with other muns?

When I see they are into the same stuff as me. Like if I see you posting about Animal Crossing, I will wanna talk to you. And if they post different memes and starters and then actually reply to those. When I see someone working, then I like to work right back at with them.

35.  How many ships do you have? How would you describe them?

OOF So many!! I have a lot of ships, some I wish I could write, some that I write with the best peeps. Usually, my ships with this little brat are hard, because she can be a real bitch. But when someone gets to her she’s really loyal and sweet in her own odd ways. But it would really depend on the person I’m writing with!  One of my fave ships would have to be RodChi, which is @imperiodelsol. I love how they are fiercely loyal to each other and only soft for one another.

I used to be really hung up on AmeRoma - America and this hoe. I like how they are usually more relaxed and fun-loving and how they make her relax and ease up.

Noel Thames Mercer has an excellent memory - to the point of impress. He can tell you precisely what he had for breakfast on the morning of September 19th, 1802, and even that the sausages had gotten a little cold when compared with the fried eggs they were served along side and that the black pudding was a bit dry for his tastes, due in part to the shockingly low humidity that season and partially due to the ship's steward having had a bit of an off day that morning. After all, they were fresh out to sea and said steward was fresh in the job with little experience, hence the poor timing of that meal preparation. The ability to remember such intricate details across such a vast stretch of time simply makes it all the more annoying when, when faced with a confusing string of memories, he cannot seem to truly fathom where in the hell they came from. 

 One particular memory which sticks out to him is that of the sensation of what it feels like to draw the string of a longbow - a weapon he personally has never drawn in the setting of battle. That is, such a memory made itself clear few months into his tenure as the Representative of England. A peculiar hermit living within the Tower of London had offered him company for the day. This Nicolas Grey was just like him, an immortal soul with a deep connection to England itself, albeit older than him by a solid six centuries. Noel remembers even then that even on Sir Grey's face, which would be no stretch to call it merely the face of a boy instead of the old man he carried himself as, his age showed clearly. That afternoon, walking the Tower lawn with Sir Grey, they discussed at length how they each had learned themselves to be something other than human. It was a comfort to Noel to know that Nicholas, too, came from an origin less than keenly thought upon by the British Nobility - places of poverty, classes lower, originating from anywhere but Whitechapel or Trafalgar Square. 

It brought him as well, however, apprehension in that Nicholas had since made himself at home among the elite classes, a place Noel never wished to find himself. Later into the conversation, Sir Grey offered a lesson and a story - teaching the use of an English Longbow, the weapon which won for England great victory over immense odds at Agincourt during the height of Henry V's campaign into France. Memories that did not belong to Noel touched his mind as he practiced his bow strength and have ever since bothered him.

 On occasion such episodes happen in repeat -- flashes of emotion and sensations older than he himself. Noel has yet to confide these visions with anyone, and has always assumed it was merely a part of being England's so-called Personification.

Honestly, depending on the sense or senses, he may or may not be able to handle it. Vlad thrives on his senses of taste, hearing, and sight. Touch or smell he could be ok with letting go of, but if taste, hearing, or sight were to be gone he would have a very hard time adjusting as his job relies on sight and hearing, and he loves his food. He’ll live, but he wouldn’t know what to do.

She has to consider the question for a while. “I’d rather give a real life one than a fictional one. I think true stories have much more depth to them, for the obstacles were real. When I was younger, back in the 60s, I started to frequent a coffee shop run by an elderly couple. Of course, we started to talk and learn more about each other after some time. They told me their story. They were communists who escaped the Third Reich by fleeing to Russia just barely in time, with only what they could carry on their backs. They lived in a tiny flat with several other families. One day, the husband was arrested for speaking ill about Stalin and sent to Siberia. The wife couldn’t stand being without him, so she followed after. She went as far as she could by train, but when she couldn’t make it further, she walked the rest of the way. She moved into the nearest town and kept herself alive by the barest means possible. Every day, she would go as close as she was allowed to the camp. At first they chased her away each time, but gradually they came to know her. Eventually, she was allowed to see her husband at the fence for five minutes a day, under strict supervision. They did their best to hold hands and kiss between the links. They did this every day, no matter the weather or how ill they were, until he was finally let out. By that time, they could come back to Germany and live out their days together.”

I try really hard not to, but like, if it feels like a thread isn’t really going anywhere interesting, or I don’t know how to reply, and a discussion w/ the other mun doesn’t help, it gets dropped. 

I also rely on the tumblr activity page, and that absolutely doesn’t help at all 

15. Have you ever written a reply that made you emotional? Will you share it?

I’m sure it has. I’m a p emotional person and it’s not hard to like, make me cry, but I genuinely can’t think of anything off the top of my head. If I do I’ll like, repost it or something. There’s some that I get real excited for, tho. 

19. What is the most important thing to you in writing a reply?

I’m gonna cheat and do two things, bc they’re both important to replies. The first, is doing the “yes, and” thing that I mentioned in #8, and the second is working in like, character physicality. A lot of my muses talk with their bodies, or hands, and I’m still trying to figure out what the balance between dialogue and motion is, but it’s something I like focusing on. 

26. How long have you been roleplaying for? On which platforms?

I’m coming up on 11 years this year. After my 13th birthday some friends of mine and I made fake accounts on facebook for the various Hetalia characters we “claimed” among each other, and it was all downhill from there. I was on fb for like, less than a year, I think, before I hopped over to Deviantart (the fb accounts kept getting struck down for not being real people lol), and then I switched to tumblr like, 3 years ago? I think? 4? IDK I remade my blog and I don’t have a great grasp of time. Skype and Chatzy were real wild; those were somewhere in the deiviantart days. And I can rp on discord too but I’m not always the best at keeping up 

33. Do you write things other than roleplay? Can you share something?

Ha. He. Heh. Funny story. I’ve been trying to write fic for years, but I’m kind of chaotic about it. But like, I can share this half finished nonsense. It’s my attempt at editing and expanding a drabble that I wrote here a while ago, and I’m trying to make it work, but I’m kind of, y’know, scattered and easily distracted.

Are there any characters that you love, but simply cannot RP?

Italy, South/North. My family’s Italian, my grandfather immigrated here from Sicily, and we’ve always been big on our heritage. I’ve loved learning about Italy and the history, I can trace my family tree back so far through Italian history but...I couldn’t RP either Italy for the life of me. Let alone Sicily. I’m beyond happy watching other people do incredible with them though!!

i think for me it’s trying to get over my anxiety about not being able to write as well as other people. i love writing but it gets difficult when i keep thinking that i’m not very good at it ya know?

20) What inspires you to write? 

i love the idea of being able to create something that can make people laugh, cry, etc. !! i was inspired to write maddie specifically back in 2011/2012 because i could relate to canada’s character but didn’t really like 100% how they were portrayed in the show and wanted to expand on their character.

30) Do you have any unspoken rules that might not be on your page? 

i don’t think so! i’m pretty relaxed here tbh. ))
