Chapter 4 Recap

Bybloemen is back (in just a few hours)! It's been a while since we've checked in with the residents of Stenenbrug and our intrepid angel investors. For those of you who want to get back up to speed, here's a quick recap of the events of chapter 4:

In the beginning (of the chapter): Gertrude stakes out the Toad and Bone tavern before it opens, and finds that it lives up to all of the disreputable stories she's heard...

Arriving back home, she's greeted with news that she's received yet another offer for the bybloemen she won at the Goose and Mistle. Gertrude, savvy businesswoman that she is, decides to see if the bids keep rolling in ahead of her planned auction...

The money would be nice, but wouldn't it be nicer if there was more of it? And in any case, how could she possibly impress Mevr. Van Haupt or secure the continued assistance of her angel investors if she jumped on the first (or thirteenth) offer she received?

Meanwhile, Basil finds himself in the middle of a contract renegotiation with his familiar and her flock...

After agreeing to pay the price demanded by the corvid guild (more bread) in exchange for the essential intelligence they collect (stolen mail), he receives news that Gertrude has been receiving (increasingly desperate) offers...

Back at the Pig and Pie, Ludwig painstakingly transcribes Basil's field notes into proper(ly embellished) reports for The Adversary...

...and gets roasted by Pieper, who is couch surfing until Basil keeps up his end of the bargain and finds him a post befitting his station...

Upon Basil's return, the Beelzeboys have a discussion about the "ethics" of "embellishing" and "amending" reports for the purposes of getting promoted (a dangerous gambit when your boss is The Adversary)...

Knowing that they're expected to meet Gertrude at the Toad and Bone shortly and need to get a move on, Basil helpfully* suggests that Ludwig just package up their reports and expedite their delivery downstairs...

What will happen at the Toad and Bone? Will Ludwig get that coveted promotion?? Will Pieper actually find the master that he so richly deserves??? Find out later tonight!
