I think that it's possible to believe that being the love interest is good for a black female character, that spuhura is a popular ship that has the fandom in a chokehold, that fans made it even more beautiful, and still recognize that 2009 spuhura wasn't greenlighted out of love for black feminism but rather to try to extinguish any gay readings of spock

A little HC post on Scotty x Uhura JUST BECAUSE I DON'T WANT THIS ACCOUNT TO COMPLETELY DIE LOL (this is written in mind for older!Scotty and older!Uhura BUT interpret it however u want ^w^)

- Scotty has never minded having rough, calloused hands, if anything he's taken pride in it! He's an engineer, one who's put in many, many years of hard work. It's a symbol of what he's done- what he does. But.. yet, he can't help but feel a bit self conscious when he finds himself contrasting his own hands to Uhuras. Soft, thin, beautiful- not without a few small notes of their own, but for the most part simply perfect.

And in contrast to his it makes him feel.. well, imperfect, he'd suppose. She deserves a lot better than an old engineer with scars and dents like the ol' Enterprise herself.

But Uhura eventually does notice how his smile shortens, or his grip softens momentarily, or he has to quickly glance elsewhere when they hold hands. And upon finally learning why he does this, his, what he thought to be, unimportant feelings.. she, takes his hands gently into her own, and lifts them to her lips; Offering the most warm of kisses.

"You're perfect, Scotty." Against his hand, Scotty could feel her smile. His cheeks felt a rush of heat that roused a small, bashful wheeze out of him.

"A-ah, I don't know about that, Lass-"

"But you are." Her eyes flicked upwards, and she finally allowed his hands to fall; But intertwined with her own. She stepped forward, their bodies bumping together. "And if I have to tell you every single day I see you? Well, then it'll be a priority one for me." Uhura stood up as high as she could, whispering against his ear in a way that sent tickles up his spine.

"Until you see yourself the way I see you."

Nichols and Nimoy had way better chemistry than Nimoy and Shatner, but alas racism meant we never got enough Uhura on the show, let alone Uhura & Spock as a couple. Strange New Worlds has already had so much for Uhura to do and we’re only on episode 3. And Gooding & Peck have that same great chemistry that will make any interactions they have on screen completely worth watching and rewatching.

Even without the romance, I’m just happy my girl is finally kicking ass on tv. And we’ve still got canon Spock/Uhura to fall back on in the Kelvin universe.

Spock is not Mr. Darcy.

It's not Pride and Prejudice with him, although it's easy to think that considering there is a distinctive Austen-ness about him.

Spock is Mr. Knightley from "Emma".

No matter who you ship him with, that's always the dynamic. He's Paul Rudd in "Clueless".

He's an amazing friend to a ridiculously precious babe who is always trying to fix everyone else at their own expense and that friendship grows into romance through his gentle candor and stalwart presence.

But he's a friend (comrade) first, last and always and that's what everyone has found so ridiculously hot about him all these years.
