#I'm stupid happy about this omg #because so far everything about my restarted master's have been just delays after delays and just all kinds of problems #that I can't do anything about #FINALLY things are going the way they're supposed to #though I probably won't graduate until like spring 2025 because uhh. *sweats* there's a new minor program in the faculty of arts #and I really really want to do that as an additional thing. and as long as I'm enlisted in the master's degree I can access it for free #I could take it after graduating but it'd cost me a few hundred so like. *gestures* #well I'm considering my options but hhhghghghgh I'm falling into the exact same rabbit hole as I did 11 years ago #too many cool things to study #anyway yesss at least I can get started on the thesis now #it's gonna be dope #if my proposition is accepted I'll be researching peer pedagogy as an integral part of the woke youth culture #meaning like. the informal pedagogics of young people educating one another on the internet and in real life #I've been rotating this subject in my head for the past four years and I'm so freaking stoked to finally get down to it #ugh I really hope it'll be accepted

i realize the student council probably doesn't have characters that arent first or fifth years because of cast size but i also like the implications that the sixth years dont have class presidents

#i really think it would be fun if the other lower classes had class presidents/student council. theres a pretty sizeable nintama oc fandom #on here innit #but i also like how small the current sc is it makes them feel cool and mysterious to me #they ARE cool and mysterious to me... #esp because they do the principal's secret work. which is probably stuff like #that episode where they have to disguise as him and hemuhemu bc he has an assassination attempt on his head #but also i like thinking about secret espionage missions and cool important tasks blahblahblah whatever #the sixth years do seem to have more specialized lessons/work and they do a lot of missions/independent study so it makes sense they #probably dont have as many classroom style lessons and more on field training #i think the first years being the only ones to have class presidents in the underclassmen makes sense to me #bc theyre still rookies so it helps to have a classmate to look up to or help manage things and leadership training or something #and the fifth years too maybe because i feel like transitioning into the more difficult work of the sixth years also necessitates something #like that maybe but this is just my mental gymnastics for something kind of arbitrary #i like to yap. #mine

i won't let anyone tell me ever again that my history degree is useless. i won't allow anyone to say that humanistic and social sciences don't count under capitalism, and aren't able to help us all """progress""", or bring significant changes to our reality. we are seeing the roots of the "no one of us can be free until everybody is free" quote (thank you maya angelou!!), and how it all comes down to learning and studying and listening to our past and the people all around the world affected by a (western established) multifaceted system that is failing now more than ever because thanks to social media and the global connection it's giving to all of us it cannot look away anymore. a system (and its enablers) that slowly but surely are being exposed and forced to take responsibility in such a impactful and inescapable domino effect.

you start by reading about i/p and then you find yourself reading and informing yourself about yemen. about the ethnocide of the uyghurs. about armenia. about sudan and tigray and the congo. about why namibia is responding to germany. about south africa, and about the numerous human rights violations north american first nations have been suffering for centuries (about the residential schools, about how many reserves don't have clean drinking water...). about thousands of refugee camps and dangerous migrations and why people risk their lives to cross the mediterranean.

it all comes down to caring, even if just a little bit, about things that happened not too long ago actually. in history terms some of them practically happened yesterday. it's beautiful to see so many people fighting for justice and for a better future, but that can only be achieved if we know our past. one of our uni professors used to tell us that we don't study history because of that saying about how a society that doesn't know its past is condemned to repeat it, but because the day might come in which someone might try to deny a fact or event that definitely happened and definitely affected some group of people, and we have to be able to identify it and correct it. we have to be able to identify if oppressive tactics of any kind are being established and pushed again, even if they aren't exactly as they used to be (because they never are) to stop them. we are here thanks to our ancestors, and we owe it to them. we cannot, we mustn't forget.
