Been getting my nephew up to speed on the owl house now that it's about to end (and in exchange, he's been getting me up to speed on amphibia since I've only watched one episode of that yet, it's quite interesting)

Now that we've finally started season 2 (we're on s2 ep4 now), he's been fully asking "so your favorite character is this golden guard guy?? But he seems mean?"

So now that we're So Close to ep6, I'm just so ready to see what he thinks of him after that 👀

Okay but one thing I love about Gus is how even though he's a little guy, he's always looking out for the littler guy, as it were.

The first time we see this is in Something Ventured, Someone Framed.

As he says in the detention pit, one of the reasons he tried to hold on to the HAS so hard was because it gave him power that he was lacking in the rest of his life. But he didn't want that power for himself, he wanted it so he could help other people in his situation.

The next time we see this happen is in Through the Looking Glass Ruins. More specifically, the graveyard scene.

Here, he's given a choice. Either he can go along with his new friends and gain powerful artefacts (and probably some money as well), or he can stand up against them.

And he chooses the second option without hesitation. He chooses to fight against a bunch of powerful witches, and why? Because it's what's right, and because the graveyard didn't have anyone else protecting it. (Yes, there was the guardian, but he hadn't shown up yet. Also, he was useless.)

Then we see this part of his character again in Hunting Palismen.

His self-stated purpose is to act as a communicator between two realms, making sure they have a good relationship, and to seek out the giraffes, who were so hated they got kicked out of the human realm. Again, going out of his way to help people who are less lucky than him.

I just really like how it's a part of his character that shows up so much.
