Continuation of me blabbing about those needles I mentioned last night:
Sif and Soft are the same in the material aspect of Yin-Yarns needles, as in they’re both made out of the same stuff. He found a way to replicate them, but chose to only replicate the construct that makes up the needles rather than make a complete duplicate. This was to ensure that the needles themselves would develop differently than his own, better suiting Fluffs more graceful fighting style.
However, he did add his own magic to them so the needles would be sentient (the ancients who made them constructed them and added magic to make them sentient, meaning they were originally just regular old knitting needles). He made it so the needles Fluff would use would be much kinder, taking on a more polite and joyous personality than his own (his needles match his personality almost to a T). Once all that was said and done, he added a spell to make them go dormant until Fluff took ahold of them (he was worried they’d cause trouble), wrapped them up, put them in a nice gift box, and handed it to Fluff.
It was quite the surprise for Fluff, to say the least. He was a little suspicious of the act, and was hesitant to unwrap the needles before taking ahold of them (he had the feeling that unwrapping them would allow them to be active, if they were even sentient to begin with). Yin-Yarn assured him they were fine, and the worst that would happen is that they’d be a little overly eager to be alive, but nothing bad would come of it. Fluff hesitantly unwrapped them and, upon finally holding them, was greeted with the needles suddenly becoming sentient and introducing themselves. They don’t have names yet, and Fluff makes note of this. Yin-Yarn explains that he didn’t name them to allow Fluff to get a closer bond with them. Fluff brushes it off but keeps it in mind and thanks Yin-Yarn for the gift.
A few days pass and Fluff kinda just... doesn’t do a lot with said needles. He’s more than a little suspicious of them (he still doesn’t have full trust in Yin-Yarn yet, and is VERY wary of anything he gives to him), and decides that maybe it’s best to not use them a bunch. One day, he looks at them and has the impulsive thought of “fuck it, might as well see what these things can do” and goes off to Grass Land to fuck around with them. It takes less than an hour to figure out that these needles are the coolest weapon he’s used thus far. It’s at this point that he decides to give them names (he feels kinda bad for not naming them earlier) and comes up with Sif and Soft. The name sticks almost immediately. He spends the next few days getting used to holding and using them (they’re kinda big for him, something Yin-Yarn sorta forgot to account for), and eventually develops a fighting style with them.
He gets really used to using their height in comparison to his as an advantage. Being able to stay above his opponents means he can catch them off guard. He also figures out that the needles are WAY sturdier than he originally thought, and utilizes this to work with them like spears and poles. Think of the Staff and Spear abilities combined. He can use them as a means to gain height and jump farther than normal, but also stab opponents with the sharp tips. He got really good at dual wielding (he originally started with using only one at a time and switching out every so often) and has a very graceful, almost dance-like fighting style thanks to it. He’s fast and unpredictable, but graceful in his movements.
He’s also got the summoning aspect that Yin-Yarn has, but has difficulty using it unless he’s in the air or in something where the needles can be lower than he feet (they’re too big to be used like that normally, and it results in him having to slow down to prevent the needles getting stuck against the ground.), but he’s quite powerful in that aspect! His summons are much quicker than Yin-Yarns, but aren’t as durable. He uses this issue to his advantage, as he can churn out “minions” at a faster pace, meaning he typically tries to overwhelm his opponent with the sheer number rather than the durability. He doesn’t use it super often tho due to height issues.
Yin-Yarn mentors him after this and he’s really good at it! He’s super experienced with his needles and helps Fluff with figuring out abilities and such (he can’t do much for fighting. His fighting style is dependent on summoning and using his needles as blunt weapons, similar to clubs [see: Yin-Yarns final form. If one gets close enough he will swing at the player with the head of the needle])! From then on out, Fluff takes his needles with him wherever he goes (he still uses his yarn whip! He just has the needles just in case the threat is too great for his whip alone). He decorates them with ribbons to help tell the difference (Yin-Yarns look almost identical if the face is obscured), and they’re very fun to be around!

Do you have any tips for incoming college freshman?
despite making it out alive, I’m not sure I’m totally qualified to give advice on college, but I’m gonna try anyway.
note: this is advice of an anthropology major (and creative writing minor, both of which I can get specific on) that used to dual major in history, so results may vary. science cores are VERY different than say, like, arts. no idea how those people coped. they seemed p chill, tho.
I also may be a little out of date. I graduated five years ago, so things may have changed idk.
- keep a map of the campus on you if you’re not purely online by the time school starts again. my school gave us a planner with one in it and I had that shit for all four and a half years I was there, even when I knew the campus better than my own neighborhood. you never know when you suddenly have a class relocated to one of the arts building and you’ve suddenly forgotten where tf that even is and class starts in 20 minutes.
- (god one time I was taking an astronomy class and the lab was out in the food forest and I was like THE WHAT NOW WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT WHERE THERE THE HELL IS IT and that was the night I learned we had a food forest after two whole ass years of going to the university)
- idk if this is great advice or not but 90% of the time when I had a class, I showed up early and sat in the hallway and went over whatever we were supposed to be learning that day. it helped me better pay attention than it would have if I had done it hours before, and I’ve never had a professor that waited for me to understand before moving on, because it’s expected that you understood before coming to class.
- AKA from my experience, you’re not going in there to learn, you’re going in there to review and ask questions on whatever your homework was. maybe you’ll learn a little more while in class, but most of college, for me at least, was teaching yourself via the readings and then gaining better understanding while in class. if you can, sit outside the class beforehand and brush up. it helps a LOT.
- take all the notes and see if you can’t find a method to take them well on YouTube. you’ll probably develop a method of minor encryption with shorthand if you’re anything like me and have professors that went super fast or readings that feel like a slow death, but, seriously. good notes mean everything.
- don’t worry about the other students, tbh. I worried a lot about the people around me for no reason, and, now that I’m out of there, literally none of it mattered in the end. college is a social thing, but don’t make it the priority over class.
- tho if they’re your partner for something and they don’t hold their weight, tattle that shit to the professor. if they’re a good professor, they’ll take the fact you’re pulling all the weight into the grading account, and hopefully help you.
- back up files in more than one place. trust me.
- email professors if you need help. it’s literally their job to help you understand what they’re teaching you. go to their office hours. I sure as fuck didn’t until I was a senior due to crippling anxiety and that was likely my biggest mistake I ever made. if they’re a bad professor and won’t help you, you have a chance to slam them in the end-of-class report thing they do.
- on that note, you probably will have a few bad professors. I certainly did. I even had to go straight to the dean after a mishap because I lost my scholarship due to a particularly bad one.
- PAY GOOD ATTENTION TO THOSE SYLLABI. highlight the fuck outta them. tack them to the wall where you’re see them everyday. also, probably, keep a planner. it’s probably the ADHD talking, but if I didn’t write things down in more than one place, I forgot about it. I learned this one the hard way, needless to say.
- if your school has a writing workshop place thing (like, where you can take your papers in and people will read them and help you fix them up) USE THAT SHIT LIKE YOU’RE GONNA BE KICKED OUT IF YOU DON’T. *especially* as a freshman, because you might think you know how to write a paper, but I can almost promise you for sure that you don’t know shit.
- enjoy yourself as much as you possibly can, especially as a freshman. you get a special n00b card when you’re a freshman, take advantage of that and get used to your new environment. go to the free things, eat as much free food as you possibly can. maybe skip drug parties, they’re kinda sketch. make friends, even if you might not keep them when you’re done. it might seem like hell while you’re in the middle of it, but I miss college so much, if only because I wasn’t the only one going through hell and the people around me knew that.
- good luck! you can always talk to me if you need to. I might not be the best help in any instance, but I’ll give it my best go.

ok but ever since you guys brought up pm/qyz i havent been able to stop thinking about it, theyd be such an entertaining disaster couple? none of pms usual methods work bc qyz is so uselessly oblivious and straightforward, so 9 times out of 10 hes the one that ends up flustered instead (qyz definitely accidentally declares to the entire heavens how good pm is in bed at some point and pm just wants to die) anyway what im saying is this is a gr8 ship pls take responsibility for making me ship it
Okay the thing about this ship is that it’s so ridiculous it’s impossible to not love it??? Like??? I’m not even sure what to headcanon with these two!?? Like??? Your Quan YiZhen outing Pei Ming as “good in bed” is p much on the spot he’d really do that????
Tbh, I think for a long time Pei Ming had already been playing around with QYZ, in like a joking way that is (ya nasties), so he’d tell QYZ to say certain things and then watch everyone’s reactions. Basically this is par for course behavior for him???? Taking advantage of QYZ’s naivety for fun???
I do genuinely think Pei Ming would dote on QYZ because QYZ is so naive??? He’d probably give him lots of candies and weird small things he finds (when he’s actually doing something that isn’t a woman bahahahaha)
ANYWAYS so because this ship came about because of my “who’s the best in bed?” poll and it contains Pei Ming, it’s hard for me to think about it in any other light that isn’t the papapa light tbh hahahahaha so please forgive me
I imagine they’d start their relations due to something v stupid, idk it might be like QYZ finds PM in the mortal realm probs surrounded by women or something and he’s like woah dude what are you doing here??? Not v pure of you my dude??? And Pei Ming is all “the four human pleasures are eating, drinking, playing, and enjoying. Right now I’m enjoying”
This makes QYZ v confused like what is meant by ‘enjoying’ and then one thing leads to another and PM turns into Ming Daddy™  to teach our naive god a good lesson
But QYZ is like the worst lay and isn’t v reactive the entire time. You know? Like it’s good, but it’s not blowing his mind which crushes Ming Daddy’s spirit. To be fair, he hasn’t slept with men before, though he was certain that wouldn’t be a problem with his experience???
MING DADDY DIDNT GET HIS TITLE FROM BACKING DOWN AFTER ONE BAD TIME THO, okay????
This leads to him giving QYZ a series of lessons like how to kiss properly, communicating during the papapa, so on and so forth. Both of them get much better, and it just becomes a thing????
Eventually QYZ asks if they’re lovers (since they kiss a lot and that’s a thing lovers do, right???) and Ming Daddy, king of commitment issues probably, is like woah dude CALM DOWN and thinking on his feet he’s just like we’re friends with benefits???? And Quan YiZhen is like awww sweet we’re friends how cool, I really needed one of those.
But that’s a bad idea because now Quan YiZhen is gushing about how he’s friends Pei Ming, and not just any friends but friends with benefits?????
THE ENTIRETY OF HEAVEN IS NOW OUT TO MOB PEI MING BECAUSE HE’S SULLYING THEIR PRECIOUS BOY!!!!!!! I personally believe he’d get beat up for like 10 days straight and someone has to pull Quan YiZhen aside and explain everything to him, which only makes it worse because yes, indeed, they DID do the papapa (and more than once because it’s actually quite good)
Idk they’d probably dual cultivate together, and QYZ says that they’re cultivation partners which might be a better plot for their relationship than everything else I just wrote honestly idk, but the same thing would happen with Pei Ming getting beaten up and everyone trying to explain to QYZ what dual cultivation actually is, and Quan YiZhen is like no he really puts it in, and it’s really amazing so we do it a lot
“No no no, not like putting his hand in your hand, but putting his… thing into your… place???”
“That’s exactly what we do?”
(Insert pikachu meme)
But like yeah, I could imagine it also starting because Quan YiZhen wants to increase his cultivation and he hears about dual cultivation. He doesn’t really know what is really is and assumes it’s just like holding hands and stuff, but definitely overhears that Pei Ming is very experienced with it… and if he’s going to learn to do something… he might as well learn from the master??? I think Quan YiZhen would spend a good year trying to convince Pei Ming to teach him lmao
Idk there def has to be the sad moment when Quan YiZhen gets the rude reminder that Pei Ming is/was a manwhore who’s slept around (possibly still sleeping around) with a bunch of different people and he has to confront his FEELINGS which he’d probably be okay with the fact that he liked Pei Ming, but would be upset with the rude awakening that the feelings may not be mutual or that there’s no exclusivity in their weird relationship (but wow I hate the sadness so I can’t even)
Without a doubt, Pei Ming asks Quan YiZhen to call him “Daddy” but Quan YiZhen literally doesn’t understand. “But you’re not my dad????” “That’s not really the point??? It’s more of a sexy thing?” “Why would being my dad be sexy???” Pei Ming would really try to pull out all the moves and seduce Quan YiZhen in an attempt to make him say daddy, it happens, but QYZ is still confused
Modern!AU where Pei Ming is Quan YiZhen’s sugar daddy someone make it happen???????
Idk, I’d have to reread through the parts with QYZ and Pei Ming to think of ones that are more… domestic??? Lmao really I can only think about it as experienced Pei Ming teaching naive Quan YiZhen how to have a good time :)))))) but i’m v soft for couples like this omg

My thoughts on Tomb Raider 2018 movie
Tumblr media
Forgive me, Lord, for I have sinned! :D
Some part of me must have gone crazy when I decided to watch the new Tomb Raider movie yesterday. I wasn’t even interested in it after I had saw its trailer and some scenes, and given my aversion to current franchise direction. Yet my curiosity was stronger. And my favourite Alicia probably did the magic.
I did not expect anything from the film. I tried to watch it without my judgemental attitude towards Laraboot. I tried to watch it as something that does not pretend to be Lara Croft or Tomb Raider.
First thing that needs to be said: it is way better than the games. The story is based on the game plot but they took, let’s say, the best from it and thus for fans that love the rebooted series it must be perfect.  After the made-upintroduction to Laraboot’s life (biking, kick-box), they follow Reboot plot quite faithfully (at least from what I remember) - the shipwreck, the island, parachutte scene, her pierced stomach, the first kill, her axe... I think Reboot fans got what was needed for a good adaptation.
!!! SPOILERS AHEAD !!!
The film definitely has its light moments. 1) Alicia I really do think she was the right pick. She is a fantastic actress and I find her truly resembling Laraboot. She fully gave herself to the role and I enjoyed her acting very much (except for one scene which I’ll mention later). Mainly, she is not annoying as game Laraboot, there is no necesary moaning and that was very important to me - I did not have to mute or turn the movie off after 20 min. I am only sorry that somebody like her had to play such a shallow character. And yes, her sick abs were impressive as hell, she was a beast there... She was the reason that make it worth watching.
2) First kill scene Now that was a highlight of the film for me. Damn it was intense! I found this decisive moment in game very irritaiting - game Laraboot cried and had a mental breakdown when shooting the bad guy in the face. Which is understandable. If only she was not killing hundreads of men three seconds later, it would be also believable. Instead it was amusing. Not in the movie. The decision to use for this a hand-to-hand fight instead of gun was a good move. They showed movie Laraboot’s fighting skills and made it more dramatic. And Alicia’s performance in it was phenomenal. I loved her there. It made a really good impact on me and I caught myself really watching with interest. (also the fact she didn’t become a killer-machine a minute later helped a lot)
youtube
3) Soundtrack Not that it would be a masterpiece but some pieces were very nice, it underlined the movie well. Definiely better than the game soundtrack which was too simple, depressing and overly dramatic.
youtube
4) Lu Ren He didn’t get much space in the film and I wished he got more scenes there. I don’t know what specifically drew me to him but I got hooked on him. I did not see any sexual chemistry between him and Laraboot as many other people did apparently. But they bonded over their shared clichéd ‘I-lost-my-parent-too’ past and surprisingly it was not forced but natural. I liked his character very much tho we did not get much of him. Shame.  yeah and I found him cute, I couldn’t help it
Tumblr media
5) Main advantage? No Sam!!!! That speaks for itself.
Tumblr media
So much for the pros of the movie. Now what I did not like at all ...
1) Plot Generally speaking I think it is a film that one does not have to see more than once. You can’t make gold from the plot that is average even from its source. It lacks originality, there are typical hollywood whims of every action-adventure movie, e.g., diary, valuable documents that has to be destroyed in order not to be seized by the villain - ‘surprisingly’ the villain will obtain the notes very quickly and easily based on main protagonist’s decision to keep them; father figure without which the heroine could not found her true adventurous self etc. Simple and straighforward. On the other hand I ask myself what did I expect when I knew it was game-based and I knew the plot?
2) Faaaaatheeeeer Another thing that annoyed me - they drained the father story to its maximum. He was alive. Living on the island as hairy castaway. And of course he had to die at the island. I ask why they had to give so much time for Richard. I took it they wanted to make it so dramatically emotional, a tearjerker, but for me it did not have the effect. It was too Hollywood. They so much forced the father-daughter stuff, they wanted to drain you emotinally but it appeared so plain and ordinary.
3) Stunts, Effects Also the stunts and some effects were very poor. Like the parachutte scene where Laraboot flew to the forest. Or the jumps. OMG the jumps! I lauged so hard. They should hire a better stunt director. He must have been drunk when working on the movie. The jumps Laraboot makes?!!! Ridiculous! I mean she always looked like this:
Tumblr media
Of course Alicia was pulled by some ropes or anything for security but it appeared so absurd - it is like they dragged her earlier than she got a chance to actually take off some surface. Honestly, the directors failed big time here.
4) Plot holes Maybe it was due to my non-full concentration but all characters claimed there is no way how to get away from the island. BUT WHY? We did not get an answer.. And what next, is it a stand-alone movie? They started the ROTTR storyline, revealed Ana to be the bad guy. Which brings me to the fact why Richard did not say anything about Ana to his daugher?
Tumblr media
5) ‘I’ll take two.’’
Now I get to the famous ending scene of the movie. That was probably the only scene Alicia acted badly. I didn’t believe her. I didn’t belived she became badass. I didn’t believe she can wield dual pistols. I don’t know why they put this scene in the film in the first place. A bait to classic fans? Didn’t work. Just because they gave her duals does not make her to be the Lara. It takes so much more to be Croft. It was forced, useless, unnecesary. If it wasn’t there it’d be better because they mixed apples with pears and it doesn’t go well together.
In conclusion, as a common viewer it didn’t offend me as I knew what to expect knowing the Reboot series. It was better than the game and I wasn’t bored as I thought I’d have been. As a Lara Croft fan it didn’t offend me either because I don’t consider this film to have anything in common with Tomb Raider or Lara Croft so to speak. It was just another film about another very plain and ordinary girl. It just appears to have a name of a famous character.

What do the fighting styles of the deities look like? In specific I'm curious about Bastet and Anubis, as well as Horus. My apologies if this is more than what you're comfortable revealing right now.
Hey there, and it’s no problem! It’s not so much about what I’m comfortable revealing, I wouldn’t mind sharing this! But it’s more how informed or interesting my answer will be?? I’m not as familiar with specific fighting styles / martial arts, much less about the type of fighting-styles present in Ancient Egypt – aside from mentions of wrestling and stick dance/fighting. So basically, I kinda need to do more of my own research on the front… >>
However, this is not the only thing I have in mind for DEITIES verse, because aside from sparring each other, the deities also have to be able to hold their own with demons… sometimes large and fast demons, including the likes of a certain chaos snake. So I have this very ambitious imagery of how dramatic, fluid, and even artful the deities can look in intense combat – especially when they use their divine weapons in combination with their movements and magic.
((LIKE… IDK BUT FOR ANYONE WHO SAW WONDER WOMAN– the way that Diana fights with her shield/sword/lasso?? That’s both efficient but looked pretty supernatural and like visual eye candy??? Is like… ultimate goals for what I’d wanna convey. But I digress…))
Anyway, even with this vivid imagery, I’ll have to test how well I can pull if off, and truthfully need to make time to practice with drawing everyone’s movements, where it’ll be relevant in the story. I imagine that the deities in general have a certain way of fighting that’s both practical but also obviously superhuman, due to their durability, stamina, and healing factor. Each deity adopt slightly different techniques tho and it usually depends on their roles, their instincts, and their weapon(s) or choice -- which you can find more details about in their worldbuilding notes HERE.
I’ll attempt to explain some examples for the 3 deities you mentioned, under the cut, but TL;DR I’m still figuring out the details for the way each deities will move and fight for combat scenes, that still suit their character.
Okay so Bastet is like, embodiment of “though she be but little, she is fierce” when she’s put in a situation where she needs to fight – doesn’t get into scrimmages often tbh but when she does she can hold her own, in a way you can expect from a Daughter of Ra. She has a smaller frame so I feel like she might be light on her feet with dancer-like movements + freestyle acrobatics, as necessary. She’s swift with dodging attacks and, if necessary, making retaliatory strikes or with using an opponent’s momentum against them. With divine weapons, she’s adept at both casting magic thru her sistrum and using the elongated handle like a staff, and is also skilled with daggers and throwing knives when she needs to strike with something sharp.
Anubis is not an avid combat-fighter himself, but like the majority of deities, he knows how to fight when he needs to – even spars with Horus to help maintain his skills. Anubis’s fighting style and techniques are usually more defensive or reactionary – using his scepter to cast protective magic or block attacks, or to physically keep enemies at bay – as he’s rarely in the position where he needs to go on the full offensive. But if he’s pressed to attack, he’ll wield his scepter like a staff, and he’s skilled enough to stun to incapacitate enemies with a well-aimed strike. He also knows how to use knives if he really needs to.
Horus I’m stillllllll kinda working on but he’s like, typical close-combat, dual-weapon / melee fight + a little extra boost of speed. He’s relies a lot on his agility and fast reflexes to keep up with opponents and dodge their strikes, and uses his dual khopesh to parry and block attacks until he has an opening to strike back. He trains and practices regularly outside of his divine duties, and I like to think he’s able to perform maneuvers that are reminiscent of parkour / free-running – specifically in cases where he uses the environment to his advantage to gain ground from enemies or to build momentum for heavier strikes (which is, ironically, is something that I headcanon Set can do too, but those are details for another day)
