Some things we may have forgotten

I've been rewatching MCD and taking extensive notes on it in hopes that I'll never have to watch it again and this is just a list of things that I don't see mentioned or brought up very often/ever that we should talk about and think about more

In the first episode Garroth tries to attack Vylad (angst potential) and Vylad literally just combat locks him by logging out of the game. This is objectively funny and should not be rewritten in any capacity. This should be canon as it is in every universe.

Aphmau's cat Meowki gets randomly killed in Episode 12 by a skeleton while Kiki is right upstairs. Just saying, there's some angst potential there.

In episode 11 Garroth reveals that he knows some medicine. Pretty sure this is never brought up again, but we could always bring it up.

Logan is apparently good with a bow while Zenix is trash at it despite being a self proclaimed "expert archer" which I think is very funny (I know this is part of Zenix's cover but what if we took it seriously it would be so funny)

Zoey is originally from the river village, as is Donna. Pretty sure they retcon that for Zoey, but I like to think the two of them could have been friends before Phoenix Drop.

Garroth actually almost dies in episode 15. Like Dr. Doctor says he will probably die soon at the start of the episode. And he doesn't get healed until episode 20. He literally spends 5 episodes laid up in bed dying.

Brendan's at his side probably angsting the entire time I'm just saying if you want sad gay fanfics, it's sitting right there!

Azura and Garroth were friends as kids??? Hello???? I think this is just a massive plot hole considering what Garroth's actual backstory ends up being asjfgshjdfgjk

Okay but if we twist it a little bit, they were friends as kids as in like at the guard academy??? Bc they're like vaguely teenage/young adult so maybe that's what she means? In which case I wanna think about that more because childhood friends to lovers is one of my favorite romance arcs ever. But is it really childhood friends if you met when you were like... 18?? And you're in your like mid to late twenties probably, I wouldn't really classify that as childhood friends.

WAIT IT GETS WORSE!

I don't... I don't even have a joke here, this is just a massive plot hole. Like all of this is just not true to Garroth's backstory as we know it. Grew up in the same village? You mean O'Khasis?? Where Garroth also FAKED HIS DEATH????

I literally don't know what to say to this I was just trying to find silly little facts to try and incorporate into my rewrite and instead I found a massive gaping plot hole

Moving on, in episode 19 when Aphmau confronts Zenix and they fight, he actually apologizes to her. As if he regrets having to hurt her for the sake of his/the Shadow King's goals.

The Lord of Brightport says the Shadow King "used to be a lord". Which like... Okay, I can bend backwards a few ways to say that he could be referring to how Shad started Falcon Claw, but how the fuck does this dude know that??? I feel like Laurance constantly just stumbling into plot holes by complete accident

Dale is apparently a Garmau shipper, going as far as to ask Aphmau if she plans on hooking up with Garroth. I like to think that he and Molly have a bet going for how long it takes for one of the two of them to finally fess up.

Raven's mom tried to eat him??

Imagine they add new players soon. What will they be walking into?

A green slimy guy is crying over a maybe undead daughter. The Brazilians keep getting kidnapped. The owner of the server's character is thought to be an imposter with the real guy also have had been kidnapped, months ago at this point. The place is drowning in sexual tension, and failed and blossoming relationships several layers deep. The island contains egg children thousands of people would die for. One of the players left months ago and is now Hatsune Miku, but don't tell his daughter that, it'll mess with her abandonment issues. The President is building a zoo for the organization controlling everything, but he has a problem with someone building diamond shrines for someone not even on the server and someone else is building over them, getting in the way of his zoo building. The nether spat them out the other day, almost keeping the shark totem guy prisoner. The embodiment of authority is a lil white bear guy who laughs and blows bubbles (and one of the players knows it's often the same admin as his egg son so he regularly yells at the bear asking when he is next gonna be his son). Also, Cellbit is doing strange things (just in general).

Being a disabled cosplayer I've had some very jarring interactions at conventions. Actually every single day people make remarks, say slurs, look at disabled people with petty. Say they hope your well soon, refuse to believe you can be disabled do young, tell you to try a new diet.

So first off:

Cripple is a slur reclaimed by disabled people, don't say it otherwise

Gimp is a slur reclaimed by disabled people don't say it otherwise

Stop trying to push people's wheelchairs unless they ask you too.

Telling me to go gluten free with not make my disability go away

So funfact at a convention earlier this year I went to cosplay and disability panel. I was actually really excited for it, and it was great. Later that day a person I didn't know called me a gimp. Someone gad to give up their seat to me, because I was on forearm crutches. The woman I ended up seated besides said. "Oh, doesn't it suck being a gimp right?" And I was just confused, my immediate reaction was to say. "Oh your disabled too!" And then she told me no she wasn't and she just felt bad for me because clearly it sucked being unable to stand without help. It took me a few days to process the fact she said a slur so casually.

BG3 spoilers here for sure, I want to make a thought dump about my favourite Purple Wizard.

I am doing like 3rd full playthrough, and it strikes me even more how Gale doesn't know how to receive unconditional help/love. And how he probably never had someone who was genuinely interested with what HE has to say, and not what WIZARD has to say. While I play I always pick the same dialogue options about his condition and item requests and yesterday something occured to me. (And sorry if that was obvious to everyone else, I'm ND and I can't 'read people that well when they emote) Each time I pick the options that are essentialy 'No problem, I will help, no need to elaborate' he makes that very short pause, like he was ready to make a speech about how important it is, or being ready for tons of questions. And then comes my Tav, just like me, ready to help anyone no questions asked. And then he glitches, and need to quickly come up with something to break the pause. Maybe that's why his bow to my kindness felt so... Theatrical? But not in his typical style but more awkward. There's a lot of other small things, like each time you do something (eg. save the boy from the Harpies) he has a small silly anecdote about his life, that he will not continue on if you're not invested in it. The Harpies one is a good example because you can learn about magma Mephit (that I'm sure is the dude from his ressurection quest) and see him so fuckin' invested in the story, and if you don't follow up on that he just kinda cut it short. I don't know, it's probably silly, but I can't stop thinking that he must have fight for any sort of affection from the others and how he must've been shushed down when he was trying to share his stories. How lonely it must have been having a whole world to share and yet no one in the world to listen.

Sorry this wasn’t a very good description. I just wasn’t sure how to word it and make it look good. I need to read more descriptions to get better at this (also writing this descriptions is kind of the reason I’ve been putting off posting these)

My ideas for him is that he’s a swordsman, wants to live up to House Raspberry and particularly his mother’s legacy, and while he gets along with his father, he knows very little about his past (since here Dark Choco doesn’t really talk about it much, he never went and worked things out with his dad). Also he’s a bit of an introvert and just wants to sword fight and read books, but I didn’t know how to work in that last bit without it sounding weird

Anyways, design notes time

So the name Black Forest comes from Black Forest cake, since that was the closest thing I could think of that combines chocolate and raspberries, even though black forest cake is made with cherries. For a time I was considering using Raspberry Jam instead, but then I went back to Black Forest

I admit, he looks like he’s from the 1700s or something. Granted, I don’t think that’s too out of place in the Hollyberry Kingdom

The hair I remember being something I struggled with for a while, until I kind of settled on this for his hair. I’ll be honest, the sketch I did up top really helped me get a good idea for his design and finally finish it (granted that was a couple months ago)

I had always wanted to give him a white outfit, since Dark Choco and Raspberry both have costumes in white, and I was able to do that here

I’m sorry, this is a bad post (I’m talking description wise, the art itself I don’t think is too bad). I designed him a long time ago, I’m not good at writing the character descriptions, and frankly I’m just writing this because I feel like I just have to get it out and actually post these requests. So I’m just gonna stop now, hopefully next one I post I’ll be able to write a better description, and I hope you like…whatever coherent stuff you can find here, and his design I guess

i feel like it’s going to explode, and it goes away for a few hours after i take painkillers but then it comes back.

i don’t know if it’s because i haven’t been getting enough sleep. i have been eating enough, if not at weird times. i have been drinking a lot of water, and this has been the busiest week of my life and it’s not even over yet.

but my god. this pain in my head is the worst pain i’ve felt in my life. now that i’m thinking about it, it’s probably due to the fact i’ve been sick this whole week, with a cough and a runny nose and headaches obviously. plus it turns out my mother has a bad chest infection so now i’m worried i could have something too.

so not a good combination.

I KNEW IT FOLKS, I KNEW IT

I knew, from this moment, that nawa liked guy. why else would he be singling him out? up to this point, guy had done quite literally NOTHING to antagonise their group, other than that time he said to nawa "ive wanted to punch spoiled brats like you in the face for a long time"

and I could go on and on about the significance of that. like how guy only said that because nawa provoked him with that annoying look on his face and saying "but we want to sit here. do you have a problem?" and how, in episode 11, nawa provoked guy because he didnt know how else to get the message into his thick skull that he needs to keep going, he can't give up on his dreams and goals.

or I could go on about how guy's wanted to punch spoiled brats like nawa in the face for a long time, and he finally got to in episode 11. but nawa wanted him to punch him (and not for some weird kink reason), because he needed guy to fight

also can we just talk about how the table they wanted to sit at in that part is the EXACT table that they're all sitting at together in episode 11?

anyway, back to the original intent of this post

the moment where guy said "I wanna punch that jerk, guy, in the face. that sharp tongue he has is so annoying" was the moment where my side couple senses started tingling

and theres so much to unpack here

first of all: I was right in assuming it meant nawa liked guy (or at least, he was always focusing on guy for seemingly no reason). those flashbacks in episode 11 told us that, from the very beginning, nawa's noticed guy, watched him, known about him and his passion for soccer and his determination to get better.

second: "I wanna punch that jerk, guy, in the face" which he finally achieved in episode 11 (yes, they fought in episode 2, but they never once punched each other in the face there). but rather than it being for revenge, or general fighting, or hatred or whatever, it was because he wanted to, quite literally, knock some sense into guy

third: "I wanna punch that jerk, guy, in the face" and "ive wanted to punch spoiled brats like you in the face for a long time". I dont really have anything to say here, I just think its nice that they both want to specifically punch each other and specifically in the face :) (maybe they should punch each other in the face with their faces) (and also it reminds me of soundwin with their "I'll rub the rap contest trophy in your face" and "ill rub the hot wave trophy in your face")

fourth: "that sharp tongue he has is so annoying" STICK IT IN YOUR MOUTH, MAYBE THEN THE TONGUE WONT BE AS SHARP im so sorry it had to be said

The Crossover, Timelines, and the Future of ACOTAR

Disclaimer: This post is a long one, filled with mostly ramblings, and contains spoilers for both the ACOTAR and Crescent City series. Please don’t read on if you haven’t finished either series, mostly CC, as I would hate for anything to be spoiled. Additionally, this is NOT a shipping post and I want to highly discourage any shipping discussion in regards to the contents of this post. I miss fun casual fandom discourse and want lovers of every ship to feel comfortable sharing their options if they feel so inclined. Thanks for taking the time to read this <3 - Court

SO, LET’S GET INTO IT...

Ever since I finished the last chapter of HOSAB I've had a lot of questions. Like a lot of questions. But as a reader and lover of both the CC and ACOTAR series, one thing that haunts me is how the crossover is going to impact the ACOTAR narrative moving forward. Especially since CC3 is the next book to be released. 

We know from Miss Sarah Janet herself that both series will be able to be read independently. We also know House of Flame and Shadow is Bryce’s story (and Ruhn and Hunt and all the others) and the focus will be on them. Any appearance of ACOTAR characters will be a treat, a little snack to keep readers of both series fed while they wait for the next book if you will, but what I can’t wrap my head around is the timeline, and how Bryce’s arrival ISN’T going to impact ACOTAR moving forward.

The revelations about the Asteri trying to get back into Prythian, the lost Fae worldwalking to Midgard, the 8th Dusk Court, all of that seems like it would naturally have a huge impact on the world of Prythian, and thus the characters within it. Imagine you haven’t read CC, then we learn (at the very least) there’s suddenly a new 8th court? That’s pretty important, and I imagine would leave many readers questioning. 

Which brings me to the meat of this post, the juicy bit, the good stuff, and I guess my main point: the timeline. How, and most importantly when, will the rest of the stories in the ACOTAR series occur and where will Bryce’s arrival in Prythian fall within them?

We know ~6-9 months have passed between the end of ACOSF and HOSAB, so keep that in mind as you read on! Also keep in mind these supposed timelines aren’t referring to the order of publication, but rather the order of each respective story within the timeline of the Maasverse. 

*Note: Thinking about where the next ACOTAR novella will fall (and what it might be about) hurts my head so I’m only going to briefly touch on that in this post. 

Opt. 1: ACOSF --> Bryce’s Arrival --> ACOTAR 5 --> ACOTAR 6

If the series were to follow this timeline, I have a hard time wrapping my head around how Bryce’s arrival (and all that will be learned because of it) WONT impact ACOTAR moving forward. As mentioned above, Bryce has some information that’s going to really rock the world of Prythian and I struggle to see how this information won’t change the story in ACOTAR 5 and 6. 

If everything involving Bryce occurs BEFORE the events of the next ACOTAR books then it’s safe to say the characters would all be aware of: 

The Dusk Court (reborn or not) 

The Asteri’s return

Other worlds

Bryce’s arrival 

The Starborn Fae

And whatever knowledge Rhys and Armen seem to have

That’s a lot of really important stuff that has huge implications for Prythian. The way I see it, if this is the route the timeline takes then readers will need to read both the entirety of the Crescent City and ACOTAR series, though this goes directly against what the author herself has told us.

Confused? Me too. 

Opt. 2: ACOSF --> ACOTAR 5 --> ACOTAR 6 --> Bryce’s Arrival

I don’t know what to really think of this potential timeline (but I might have convinced myself more and more of it while writing this), as there’s a whole lot of story left to cover, and if I’m remember correctly, there was only around a ~6-9 month gap between the end of ACOSF and Bryce’s arrival in Pythian at the end of HOSAB. That’s not a lot of time to solve all of the issues the ACOTAR characters are facing, at least in my opinion, especially when we still have: 

Koschei and his machinations + Vassa’s curse

Two more love stories that need to unfold

Lucien and his real father

Eris and his scheming / Autumn Court drama

Mor and her secret

Elain and her powers

The High King plotline

Feysand’s death pact

Truth-Teller and where it came from

Valkyries still aren’t fully formed / Bloodrite fallout

Tamlin still running around totally feral though I hope he stays that way

And the many unanswered questions regarding tertiary characters and newly introduced characters, like Gwyn, Emerie, Balthazar, Helion and Lady Autumn, etc. etc. 

That’s... a lot. 

THEN AGAIN, if I remember correctly, the entire events of the Throne of Glass series spanned over the course of ~one year, so maybe this timeline isn’t so farfetched after all... 

Though I do find this all to be a bit clunky. Readers of both series would be aware of Bryce’s arrival, other worlds, the Asteri’s attempt to reinvade Prythian, the lost Dusk Court, etc. all throughout the rest of the ACOTAR series. Seeing as CC3 is coming in January 24′, before the rest of the ACOTAR books, this timeline would also mean that readers of both series would have technically already seen the conclusion to both CC and ACOTAR by the time they finish HOFAS. 

Sarah does like to play with the concept of time (past, present, future) so perhaps this timeline might make sense in the end. This could also play into the theory that TOG was the past, CC the future, and ACOTAR the present... 

But now I’m giving myself a headache so let’s move on. If you’re still with me, you’re a saint and I hope your bookshelves are always full, your recs always good, and your pages never dog-eared. 

Opt. 3: ACOSF --> ACOTAR 5 --> Bryce’s Arrival --> Novella (?) --> ACOTAR 6

This is a pretty wonky timeline too (I’m starting to think they all are) but I could also see it potentially making the most sense given the fact the 6-9 month window between ACOSF and HOSAB might be enough time for one of the remaining ACOTAR stories to play out, given that Nesta’s story spanned around ~10 months to a year. Though this would mean we’d read about Bryce’s arrival at the END of ACOTAR 5, and thus would need some sort of mention of this monumental event in ACOTAR 6/the novella. This would also mean there would be one endgame ACOTAR couple already together during the events of CC3, though I don’t think this is a huge thing, seeing as House of Flame and Shadow is about Bryce. Could we get crumbs and hints? Sure, though seeing as Sarah likes to keep her endgames tight-lipped, I highly doubt we’ll get anything substantial. 

Speaking of the  Novella... If it does come after ACOTAR 5/Bryce’s arrival, could this be a good way to bring in the idea of the multiverse to ACOTAR-only readers? Perhaps the novella is about the time the Daglan ruled over Prythian?? Or maybe it’ll be about Queen Theia??? Maybe it’ll be about none of that?? 

Now my head hurts. 

Regardless of how the timeline shapes out I am so excited about where the story is going and can’t wait to see the new dynamics, lore, plots, and elements the crossover introduces. But now I want to know your theories! How do you think SJM will handle the crossover, the revelation of the Maasverse, the interconnected worlds of Prythian and Midgard, and all the goodness we still have left to explore in CC3/ACOTAR 5&6???

i know poets and musicians and ya know, the general population, always talk about how awful it is that people who were once very close can easily become complete strangers, but! for a second here, can we also admit that sometimes the ability to forget and be forgotten by others is... exhilarating? like, there are certain people whose name is the only thing you remember now and pheew, thank heavens for that? what a joy it is that in some time a garbage human being, who's only ever made you sad, will forget most about you... you'll no longer be a part of their lives, they will never have access to you, your growth and future, they will never know more than just that small part they knew once upon a time (and even then, just some memories which will get hazy over the years). how great that one day their brain will click on "empty recycle bin" of the file of you.

what a joy that one day you'll be standing next to them, not being able to hold decent small-talk, because honestly? all this awkwardness will still be infinitely better than the hell of having known them more.

What a Phone Call Can Do

Teasers for my Different Meeting AU (that has basically become a fic at this point, may even pop it on Ao3 who knows), title of this post is an idea for a title, let me know opinions?

I have specific things that I am planning to include, and moments that I will do as canon, adjusting canon, or throwing away canon, so here’s some of those and feel free to share ideas:

Steve is going to spend the night with Eddie at Rick’s, no way is he leaving him. There will be discussion of Steve’s trauma in more depth in this part, as well as discussion of his homelife and parental neglect. 

Steve will be present for Jason and Patrick’s arrival at the lake house and Patrick’s death, Jason will take a slightly different turn on his idea of what Eddie is doing.

Yes, I will be making Steve get cursed, why, because he is my little doll that I like to make bad things happen to (this means Eddie will know his song, I have two ideas already, one is my own and another I saw in a fic and laughed so hard I almost peed, see if you can guess).

After leaving Eddie temporarily, to drop off the kids and Robin somewhere, Steve is going to run some errands, mainly: getting food and clothes for himself, stopping by Gareth’s house to fill him in on what’s going on, getting food for Eddie, leaving his car at his house so it’s less suspicious and sneaking into the trailer park to get Eddie clothes/see Wayne

Steve has been accepted by the other people in Eddie’s life at this point. Wayne almost immediately fell in love with Steve (I’m a sucker for Wayne telling Eddie to marry Steve of he'll adopt him), and the Corroded boys all got wooed by Steve’s cooking and baking, especially Gareth (Steve also has hair care talks with Gareth because they both love their hair and have been trying to bully Eddie into taking care of his)

Nancy having weird Feelings about Steve and Eddie, thinking she’s into Steve at first, but then she realizes that she's just jealous (is it because she misses Jonathan? Is it because she's suddenly interested in a clumsy lesbian? Maybe it’s both and I create the messiest polyamorous relationship known to man)

Following canon: the fruity four will still get dragged into the Upside Down, starting with Steve being yanked in, Steve will still get attacked by the bats, Fred is still victim 2 but that will happen off screen as this is from Steve’s point of view, Patrick is still victim number 3 and dies in the lake, Max is still cursed and plays bait, Nancy and Robin Acting Adventure at an Asylum

Adjusting canon: Steve is with Eddie for more of the story, contemplating having Nancy be cursed by Vecna as they leave the Upside Down or maybe having it be Eddie so he can see Steve as one of the victims, Steve’s injuries are not ignored once they leave the Upside Down (homoerotic wound care anyone?) which is going to adjust the groups at the end as well

Tossing out canon: Steve is also cursed but (thanks head trauma) he doesn’t know until it’s too late, replacing War Zone scene with a cute steddie moment in the RV, addressing Steve’s many head injuries and giving him hearing problems (there is a government issues hearing aid at his house but he rarely wears it, he will be once they learn about the music), happy ending :) 

Take note that I didn’t include Eddie and the bats here, because I have no idea if I’m even going to include that, I have an idea for following canon fully, adjusting canon and tossing out canon but I won't really know what I’m doing until I get farther into the fic.

There will be a happy ending though, I promise. My own gay little heart needs to see Will Byers meet Eddie and have his tiny gay brain explode because “wow hot man”, I also need Eddie and El to meet because she would adore him (Bitchin and Metal, hello?). I may also try to include a scene with Murray, because I love him, meeting everyone properly, finally meeting the Steve and before any of the adults or Cali crew can be clued in on their relationship, Murray tries to set up Eddie and Steve. I will also be showing Steve allowing himself to be soft with some of the kids (my heart grows 2 sizes whenever I think about Steve getting close with El and calling her Ellie bean, which she loves because it’s a new nickname)

Potential other ships to be included:

Jonathan/Argyle/Nancy/Robin as a polycule or as two relationships or mixture

Lumax/Elumax (as long as Max and Lucas are together I'm happy)

NO BYLER sorry, hot take, but I don't like Byler, and I think that Will deserves better than M*ke Wheeler, maybe I'll have Will and Gareth get to know each other though

Okay so i might make Siren AU into a thing. Got some very loose thoughts / this is basically just me brainstorming (if anyone has any ideas please don't hesitate to tell me)

Peppino can't swim. He just sits in his shitty little boat while fishing one day and suddenly gets attacked by probably Pizzahead or Pizzaface. Gustavo sees him struggling and panicking, and saves him from almost drowning.

I already made some concept doodles for Gustavo, he's basically a mermaid but with a shark tail and those fin thingies instead of ears. Round little shark man <3 He also doesn't inherently think humans are evil or something, when someone's in distress he tries to help as best as he can. He can get very protective over friends and loved ones tho. Don't anger him. You'll regret it.

The sirens probably can't speak human language, with a few exceptions. Pizzahead probably learned it from (obsessively) observing humans, and then tried teaching it to Fakey. Fakey can speak fractions of sentences or words, but it mostly sounds like gibberish. He doesn't speak often though, mostly communicates with croaks, gurgles, and other noises. I like to imagine Gustavo tries to learn to speak human language so he can communicate with Peppino better (bonus points if his first full sentence for some reason is "I'm going to kill you", not knowing what it means and scaring the shit out of Peppino)

Fakey stays a frog, but with like. A tail, like when frogs are in that transitional phase between tadpole and frog ya know. But still humanoid looking, i mean he has to look like Peppino, right? Created by Pizzahead out of literal frog DNA and.. anger? Jealousy? Unhealthy obsession? All of the above? Idk yet

Mr. Stick is probably one of the few characters that stay human, and he's one of Peppino's friends/acquaintances

Not sure if Brick should stay a rat, possibly even Peppino's (involuntary) pet, or some kinda fish that's already Gustavo's friend. Although it'd be fun if Brick just lives with Pep, and Pep can't get rid of him no matter what he does, so he reluctantly keeps him.

I literally have no ideas for Pepperman and Vigilante. All i could think of for Vigi rn is uh. Sea slug. But Pepperman?? Zero clue. Head empty. Help.

Got two thoughts for the Noises, either Noise is a human too, but Noisette is a siren luring him in (or vice versa!), or both of them are sirens. Option 2 would make more sense to me, but option 1 seems interesting too.. OR secret option 3, Noise and Noisette are both creatures that transform depending on if they're in water or on land. Peppino doesn't know this. The Noises act like it's the most normal thing in the world.

Pizzahead as either a regular siren or maybe like. An octopus/squid? Kinda like Ursula from Ariel idk. Or maybe an eel. Idk why

I still think it'd be funny if Pizzaface was a flat fish. I forgot what they're called but the mental image is so funny to me. Flat fuck.

Pizzahead probably got the idea of cloning Peppino cause he once saw how strong he is, and thought he would need that kinda strength for the war between him and.. other creatures.. i actually haven't thought about that one.. who would he even be against? Are the other bosses on his side? Is he trying to start a war between sirens and humans bc of people like Peppino fishing all the time? Or have humans started a war against the sirens in ancient times and it's still in their nature to despise humans because of that?
