Hey Caffeine, something just popped in my mind. Agent Blue happens after Frontiers and the ending has already been lightly referenced in the fic. Do you plan on referencing the DLC as well? The altered scene of Sonic coming back, all I could think was "parallelllls!" and we both know how much we both love parallels.
Oh! Good question- Goodness, I love the parallels so much aaaaa - I'm obsessed with the DLC, that ending was beautiful. *Unfortunately* tho, I've already referenced explicitly the fact Sage "dies" in Frontiers - which does not happen in the DLC, so if I was suddenly using the DLC's ending - that would kinda be a continuity error... sooo I don't think I'm gonna reference it :(

opinions on nie huaisang now that everything is out in the open?
GOSH I don't know if I'm responding too early while still recovering from the emotional turmoil of just having finished the show, but I thought he was a really fascinating character by the end (long answer under cut):
The whole thing is extremely tragic, but it felt fitting that he was the one to take down Jin Guangyao, because they were the only two who were able to play the game at that level. Putting on a mask for so many long years, and playing into an image to make yourself seem nonthreatening and less dangerous than you are (engendering pity even), making those quiet benign suggestions to direct the conversations around you to where you want them to go. I'm not sure how much of it he picked up from watching JGY as he planned his revenge, but he played it well. On the flip side, there's also the ruthlessness and willingness to sacrifice others as collateral, and the fact that he is prepared to make these choices in pursuit of his greater goal (of revenge, of getting his personal emotional closure). Something something in trying to take down JGY, he sort of... became JGY? In those aspects that mattered.
There's also something interesting in how his personality and preference for the arts seemed at odds with the culture of the more militaristic Nie sect, and how this could’ve affected how he developed the skills he did, through politics and misdirection over physical confrontation. The parallelllls, they keep coming.
And just. Thinking about how he had some form of real friendship with Jin Guangyao in the beginning, and the complicated feelings that would have been in every interaction from the point when he learned who killed his brother and it became an act (and to what extent was it?). Betrayal! Pain! From every direction! And even though he's initially in disbelief upon realising it was Nie Huaisang behind it all, I think in some way JGY did recognise and appreciate that he'd been beaten at his own game, and that perhaps out of everyone in this room they were the only two who could truly understand each other in this way. (NHS must also have had to keep everyone at arm's length, really, to be able to pull off his plan, and now that leaves him alone at the end of it all.)
I like how it was left ambiguous how Nie Huaisang really felt after everything was over. How does he feel about the cost of victory? What do you do with your life after the revenge that has consumed so many years of it is done? Was it worth it? It feels like a big theme of the show that the cycle of violence and revenge damages everyone, and that the perpetrator is not exempt.
Also, I did not suspect a thing when he first reappeared post-timeskip, even though it was really suspicious that he was where he was! (and only started picking up on it towards the end) I picked this up from another post after the fact, but the audacity of including this shot of the fan, in the very first episode!!!

This show, laying everything out in the open from the beginning and we just don't see!! I’m so mad haha.
(As a side-note, I also enjoyed the last interaction he had with Wei Wuxian in Cloud Recesses at the end, and the whole "I know", "I know you know", "I know you know that I know" thing they had going in that entire exchange. Comedy gold, from the very start to the very end.)
