With her one-year adoptiversary fast approaching, I would like everyone to meet my doggy, Stella, who is, in fact, named after tdp Stella.
Tumblr media
The rescue agency told us it's sometimes good to rename rescue dogs so they associate their new name with a happier life. Ironically enough, her former name was Monkey. So Stella just felt like the right name for her. Also...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The resemblance is uncanny.

top ten favorite blue things (ur my favorite blue thing btw)
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, also this question stumped me for a while because I actually don't like that many blue things (including blueberries) (I know) (I'm living a lie) (my name is literally Blue it worked too well for me to not use it ok)
Not in any particular order, my top ten favourite blue things:
Zym (fun fact after writing this down I looked up a list of blue things to see if I liked any of them and one of them was dragons, I was like 'oh cool! Dragons! and went to put it down but I can't put two different dragons that is cheating)
The rag I use to clean my glasses
The color of the sky (I love it) (dead meme, I apologize for that)
2/5ths of the trans flag
my copy of the lightning thief (very destroyed, I've had to re-tape the cover several times)
The stars and nebulae sometimes? Which sounds like a very "teenage boy in a wolf t-shirt (cough cough hunter cough cough)" thing to choose but nevertheless
BUDGIES
Zubeia (actually yes fuck you, I'm putting two dragons and 100% not because I am running out of things here)
Blue food
fuck only one left uhhhhhhh blue roses (they exist trust me)

Anyways I finished the Black Parade on Expert and The Brand playing over the credits was like
a neat little bow over a fantastic fan...mission? Game?
I shouldn't be this emotional I played through the whole thing before and already saw how this concludes lol
If you got Thief Gold, go play the FM, it's pretty well made.

one of the things i love most about arc 2, i think, is the breaking down of "this action is always bad" from arc 1 into "this action is always circumstantial" in arc 2. not that arc 1 is devoid of morality complexity and ambiguity, but there's definitely more examinations of said things and said unforeseen consequences in arc 2.
in arc 1, Claudia doesn't break away from her father (isn't familial morality good?) and Rayla does (becoming the first real traitor in the series in a lot of ways). In arc 1, Nyx is our primary (bad) thief who steals for self-centred (monetary) reasons, but in S5 we see both Ezran and Rayla engage in thievery with good intentions, even if for Rayla it is also for 'monetary' reasons (ha!) and Callum spares/helps her much the way Rayla spared/helped Nyx, even after being 'tricked' and certainly lied to. Nyx's thievery has the least consequence with Ezran's having the most, but their intentions (to return a baby creature for money / to save baby creatures from a truly terrible fate and existence) is what divvies up the actions accordingly.
Soren and Terry are both crestfallen and wracked with guilt upon killing someone - for Soren, his father, which is extra complicated given that Viren clearly paid quite a steep price to keep his son alive; for Terry, a relative stranger - but both murders affect them in similar ways. For Terry, it was something he'd never been trained to do and wholly in defense of someone he loves; for Soren, it was fulfilling his purpose as a knight and a crownguard for someone he loves, but also reflective of the strength it took to stand up against his father for what was right.
When Callum breaks away from Aaravos in future seasons, he will be retreading Viren's path in 5x09. Claudia and Rayla continue to parallel each other quite strongly, particularly with 6x01 in mind. Callum, like Viren and Claudia, has used dark magic two times now for Good reasons, yet is clearly still worried by what path it may set him on, while Viren is forced to recognize his own agency (much like Callum did in S2).
IDK if this makes sense but I really like the way TDP takes intention, circumstance, and consequence into account, and doesn't let any character off the hook for their choices within those circumstances, but also doesn't demonize any of them for their choices either

Meeting Gonta’s prestigious human family AU (based on the TDP/DRS universe)
I think that if Ouma were to meet Gonta’s human family they’d hate him since he’s so annoying lol. They’d especially not like him if he and Gonta were dating since, they likely expect Gonta to marry a girl so he can continue the family line.
But yeah, since Ouma’s so openly confrontational compared to Gonta, I wonder what his interactions with them would be like. And since they’re a rich prestigious family, you could imagine Ouma seeing himself as a thief stealing Gonta away from them.(since you know... phantom thieves are known for specifically stealing from rich estates)
Which is especially fitting given that on TDP, Ouma basically tells Gonta that they aren’t meant to be with each other since he’s not a gentleman like Gonta is. So, he’d feel like the “bad boy” taking their innocent son away from them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s the parts where Gonta references his human family for context. There’s also a part on Salmon Team where Gonta implies that his family likes to test him on his common sense a random times, which explains why he has a complex with feeling stupid.
(Keep in mind that Gonta spoke normal Japanese in the original so, there’s no actual reason for his family to see him as stupid. He’s actually a little too smart given his circumstances. He does speak in third person but, in Japanese fiction that’s meant to make characters cute, not stupid. For example, Tenko and Angie also spoke in 3rd person in the jp ver)

I don't see a whole lot of fanmission discussion on here, which is a bummer considering they're such a huge part of the classic Thief community and why it's endured so long. With some of the Black Parade hype recently, I think now is the perfect time for this- here's my personal list of TDP/TMA fanmission recs! Not in any particular order (aside from the first 3-5 or so for each game, which are my personal all-time favorites) these are just taken from my highest rated fanmissions in FMSel. Each one links to a Thief Guild page where you can find the mission briefing, screenshots, and downloads.
Thief Gold: Ascend the Dim Valley Endless Rain Rose Garden The Scarlet Cascabel The Black Parade Catacombs of Knoss Alcazar Chalice of Souls Making a Profit The Sound of a Burrick in a Room Whispers Below the Cobblestone Between These Dark Walls Dirty Money Falling, In Love Autumn in Lampfire Hills
Thief 2: Compulsory Egress Into the Odd Bad Debts, and its sequel Disorientation (part of the Talbot series by Melan, along with TG FM Rose Garden) The Violent End of Duncan Malveine Feast of Pilgrims Ominous Bequest, and its sequel Broken Triad Rose Cottage Behind Closed Doors The Turning of the Leaves King Abedzen's Tomb Legacy of Knoss (sequel to TG FM Catacombs of Knoss) The Ties That Bind (the first FM I recall ever playing and, imo, a cute introduction to FMs as a whole) Old Habits and Dead Wives Vanishing Point All For a Night's Sleep The Last Lighthouse Keeper Cracks in the Glass Bloodmist Tower Finals at the Academy Heist at Hilbert's Highrise Hotel The Sun Within and the Sun Without Malazar's Inscrutable Tower Ravensreach Coaxing the Spirit Keyhunt
Here's a TTLG thread on how to set up both games for playing FMs. I personally don't use any fancy loaders, FMSel will be what you get by default, it works perfect and is all you need. TTLG overall is just a great place to be, it's good for FM hints/walkthroughs/recs and general Thief/Looking Glass discussion.
Ideally you have T2Fix already installed, but for setting your game up for FMs, you should do a quick reinstall and make sure that two options are ticked: common script modules, and T2FMDML. T2FMDML is a collection of fixes for Thief 2 FMs that wouldn't otherwise play nice with NewDark, and the scripts as I understand are for FMs that need them but either come packaged with older versions or without the scripts at all- there's a lot of older FMs out there that will be broken for you if you don't have both installed. You can just rerun the T2Fix installer for this, you don't need to reinstall the game or anything.
Thief Guild is where all the links lead, and it's a great site for finding FMs. You can filter by genre (city, thieves' highway, cathedral, etc.) or look through the usermade collections- for a start, I'd recommend looking at the collections specifically to find classic/early FMs, a category that I know I'm not hitting on much in my list here but is definitely worth checking out if you're at all interested.
Bonus Dark Mod rec: The Dark Mod is a fanmade, free, Thief-inspired stealth game. I haven't played nearly as many missions for it as I have for Thief, but it's still absolutely worth checking out to see if it clicks for you. If you only play one TDM mission, though, my personal rec is Iris.
If you have any, add on with your own FM recs also! Feel free to send asks or dms about anything FM-related, as well ^^ I'm always looking for more to check out, and always open to talk about them if anyone wants.

Finally finished Thief TDP! My thoughts:
Very much liked every mechanic, jumping, climbing, stealth, flooring sounds, etc
Stephen Russel voice acting. What can I say?
It might be over the top but I like Garrett being “I’m Mr cool meh meh meh” it fits
I slowly improved combat overtime, but I do find it interesting that it’s practically impossible without taking out someone
ROPE ARROWS ROPE ARROWS
I despise yet love Constantine’s house. I love the cool twisting tile room, the void room, but getting in and out of it??? Hate it
The cutscenes are amazing. I love the style of them
Guards muttering
Overall: I love it and will continue to play the Metal Age!

What's one of your favorite TDP headcanons you have?
Ooh! One of my all-time favourite headcanons is that Nyx and Hendyr are siblings or found family, either way.
I like the idea of them being alone from a young age and Hendyr having to practically raise Nyx himself (not sure what the age gap would be but he's at least a few years older). I think he would have shielded Nyx from a lot of the worst the world had to offer so that she could lead her more carefree lifestyle growing up, which reflects in his scarred face (his left cheek) while she has none.
So when his talents were acknowledged and he was chosen to join the Dragonguard, it was difficult to leave her on her own - even if she was older by this point - because they were always together. While Nyx enjoys the thrill of their vagabond life as thieves, Hendyr wants her to be able to live a more comfortable and safe life eventually, and with honour as a Dragonguard that could be way more possible than continuing down the road they are right now.
But I think it also would add to his reasoning of choosing life over honour when faced with certain death in the one scene he appears in the show.
Unlike Rayla who has a whole village to take care of her, Nyx has nobody else (except her Ambler by this point probably). Hendyr doesn't have that level of security for Nyx's future, nor has he been raised in a community that value honour over their lives. He grew up as a street rat and a thief, not a noble warrior, so in line with this headcanon it just makes sense that he made the choice he did, and I think it adds extra flavour even if his choice was still callous to his peers. We've had a lot of characters make many choices based on their family throughout the series, so it's just another case of it!
Maybe it can also serve as another reason Nyx wanted to steal Zym to take the credit for herself, as a means of potentially pardoning Hendyr. I love when things intertwine anyway lmao.
I was more active about this headcanon in 2020, so I never really expanded on it in more recent seasons, but I still love it a lot. I should draw them again sometime ;-;
