The Reinstatement

Adult Swim woke up with a start this morning, sweat dripping down its face. Just another nightmare, it told itself, shaking its head as it stood up. Ever since they had cut off Justin Roiland from their work, they had been fearing every waking moment.

But it did not know that today was unlike any other.

The Redditors, ever since they heard the news about Justin, have been in outrage towards Adult Swim. They post and tweet daily in his defence, but their cries go unheard by the company's cruel, cold professionalism. Until now.

Today, a line of Dude-Bro Brothers stood in front of the Adult Swim headquarters. They held up picket signs and chanted together. "We want Justin!" One of the signs read. "Release the Roiland Cut!" They all chanted in a voice-cracking register. But alas, their pleas went unheard. Even as they sobbed to Get Schwifty playing in the background, they were cruelly disregarded at every turn. Even as they performed the Rick Dance from the season 1 finale, they were shunned by the cruel heel of Adult Swim's boots. It looked into the eyes of a child holding up a Solar Opposites sign with "never again" plastered over the face of Korvo, and spat on the ground.

Justin sat across the street, watching the whole thing play out. He was drinking a Bailey's coffee in his oversized sweatshirt. He hated being seen in public like this. Even when he had ordered his usual, the man behind the counter frowned at him.

"It will be okay," he reassured reassuringly. "They have to take you back eventually!"

"I-I don't think th-that I even w-want that," Justin stammered, awkwardly playing with his mug. "Maybe they're better off w-without m-me..." he mumbled, tearing up as he walked to his usual seat at a booth near the window.

When he saw the picket line today, he could scarcely believe his eyes. He wiped away tears, because there was no way, no chance that it would do anything. And these good Redditors people were wasting their time.

It was then when an electronic car came speeding around the corner, pulling into the centre of the picket line and blasting "Rick and Morty" by Soulja Boy on the speakers. The entire crowd cheered. Out of the car stepped out none other than Elon Musk.

He pulled out a bluetooth megaphone and stood on top of his car. "ADULT SWIM!!!!" he yelled. "YOU NEED TO REINSTATE JUSTIN ROILAND IMMEDIATELY! I COMMAND YOU!"

The Redditors all start chanting "Justice for Justin! Justice for Justin!" over and over. Justin can just hear the chanting from the coffee shop he drinks at across the street and he comes running out in a huff. They cheer his arrived, Elon letting him stand on top of the car with him. They hold hands as the chanting continues until finally, out the door walks a figure dressed in black and hunched over.

It's Dan Harmon, with his face covered in tears. He's booed as he steps out onto the street among the picketers and he looks up at Justin and Elon on the car.

Justin jumps off the car, landing in front of dAn Harmon elegantly, facing the man finally.

Suddenly, Dan falls to his knees, broken and sobbing messily.

Justin's heart pangs, but he stares down coldly to hide his feelings.

"PLEASE!" Dan cries out, "Please! Come back! The show has never been the same without you in it!" he lowers his head. "I miss you on set. I'm so sorry for what I did and I need you to stand by me as we fix this - together!"

Justin sighs, kneeling to level with the level that Dan is at. He shakes hius head.

Dan looks at him widely eyed. "W-what do you say? Like old times?"

"Oh, Dan," Justin begins, warmly, "I just wanted to hear you say the word."

His co-creator grins brightly. "S-so you'll come back? And you forgive me?"

"In my heart, I've never left." But then Justin thinks. "But if you're looking for my forgiveness, then I can't. Not ever."

Dan wails, curling up into an inconsolable ball and sobbing into the sidewalk.

Justin stands triumphantly, returning to stand on top of the car with Elon. All the Redditors look at him, awaiting his words and hushing each other.

"I'M BACK BABEYYYYY!" he screams in elation and joy. "REGULAR RICKKK!!!!! WUBBA LUBBA DUB DUB SZECHUAN SAUCEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!"

The crowd erupts in cheer and everyone claps.

Adult Swim's anger causes an earthquake which shakes the entire building, making it collapse and leaving the voice boxes of Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden completely ruined, irreparably. . The Redditors are left unharmed, and they celebrate with tears and mensa tests.

He is back. The king on his throne.

Elon grabs Justin's hand, taking the voice actor by surprise. They look into each other's eyes.

"I knew you could do it," the muskrat whispers, between only the two of them.

Justin released a breath he didn't know he was holding. "I didn't know you knew that," he explained.

"Well, good to know that one of us knows things," Elon quipped.

And the two kiss on top of the tesla in the shadow of the Adult Swim headquarter rubble, their tongues battling for dominance.

Tbh, I do think there's a little PR spinning going on here with the Justin Roiland story. I believe most of the stories coming out, but he humiliated Hulu and Cartoon Network. Of course they're going to say "Haha Justin Roiland who? We barely see him! He hasn't been in the studio in years!"

I definitely think it's true that his involvement in Rick and Morty plummeted after season two because season three onwards is so different, but some of his weird humor is still there. The writers could've been emulating him, but what about Solar Opposites? His scattered, frenetic energy is all over that show. Did he really just voice Korvo and leave? He had no other involvement in that series?

I'm not defending him because he 100% deserved to get axed and should have been years ago, but I don't know if I buy this whole "Rick and Morty was ALL Dan Harmon! Solar Opposites was ALL Mike McMahan!" narrative. I think that these brands are covering their asses a little because they covered for him for so long.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Solar Opposites. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Korvo's pessimistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Solar Opposites truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Korvo's gayass catchphrase "We're going to be late for work, stop buggering about" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Mike McMahan's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Solar Opposites tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the shlorpians' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

New Shlorp Adventures Scene Idea for @cartoonfanaticmonsterrobotalien

Korvo, Terry, Yumyulack, and Jesse wake up on an unknown planet after their ship crashed. Terry looks for Korvo and finds him and kisses him. Korvo's robe is ruined from the crash. Yumyulack holds an unconscious Jesse in his arms and Jesse mistakes Yumyulack for God. Korvo tries to scan the place but it won't tell them where they are. Suddenly, a Shlorpian appears and Korvo recognizes her, it's his older sister Janiz! Korvo tearfully runs to hug Janiz and Terry is confused about what's going on. Janiz explains that the planet they're on is New Shlorp and says "I swear it's not as bad as the name sounds." Then a Shlorpian gets his head ripped off and Janiz adds "Or how it looks." The others are horrified and Yumyulack covers Jesse's eyes.

Solar Opposites / Rick and Morty master post because a one-off thought I had spiraled outta conteol

Unpopular opinion but I think Korvo n Rick would totally be besties. They're both huge space nerds!! Rick literally built his ship outta random shit he found in the garage what about that would not be the coolest fuckin thing to Korvo. Rick would be tickled shitless to finally find someone that truly appreciates how cool his ship is. they're gonna gut the opposites' house together to build cool new vehicles and neither morty or terry can stand in their way

if ANYONES brawling in the front yard it's totally morty and yumyulack. morty already has to deal with one homicidal maniac he doesn't want to hangout with a new one. plus, Rick's just dubious enough yumyulack probably idolizes him. They're gonna wrestle in the front yard for rick's attention and he's too busy helping korvo with gizmos to even notice/care

Since Morty trails Rick around so often it's probably a while before he actually meets Jesse. She sees the back of his head a lot. Cue a crush that Yumyulack hates with every fiber of his being. First time they properly interact Jesse says "ew" and morty thinks about it every single day for the rest of his life

Also!!! Summer teaching jesse typical teenage girl things and it freaks the shlorpian fam out.

Terry and Jerry. What more do I have to say, just look at their names. They're gonna be so lame and cringe together. Imagine the god awful movies they'll watch. Them getting horribly multilated trying to do a simple task feat. annoyed rick and korvo coming to fix them

Maybe this is just me being autistic but I really don't understand why there's this unspoken rule in hollywood that if a voice actor on a cartoon dies or quits or gets accused of some sex crime so you have to fire them, you can just recast their role, but if the same happens with a regular actor on a live action show, recasting isn't even a consideration and you have to either write their character out or cancel the show entirely if their character is too absolutely necessary to be written out. Like, I haven't watched Rick and Morty in like a year and yet when I saw the trailer for season 7 the difference was immediately noticeable, and that's when they put their best effort into recruiting sound-alikes, with his other role on Solar Opposites they didn't even try and cast a guy who sounds like Josh Strife Hayes and we're all supposed to accept that Korvo sounds like Josh Strife Hayes now. (sidenote: British people, can you tell what part of England Josh Strife Hayes is from by his accent?) But on the other end, when Jennette McCurdy refused to reprise her role as Sam Puckett in the iCarly reboot for very valid reasons, instead of just recasting Sam, which this would be an ideal case for because we last saw these characters a decade ago as teenagers so they're already going to have changed a lot, they wrote Sam out and had to make a bunch of really awkward changes to make up for the lack of Sam that made the whole show suck and not feel remotely like the original. The place where this absurdity culminates IMO is The Orville, where from what I gather, Seth McFarlane started dating one of the other actors, but they broke up and didn't wanna work with each other anymore, so they wrote her character out and then in the next episode had her be replaced with a new character of the exact same species with the exact same personality who even looks basically the same, like the trope where someone's tabletop RPG character dies so they plop down a new character sheet with the exact same stats and say it was their twin sibling. Like, I really feel like the character looking slightly different now would've been less illusion-breaking than her quitting her job and then the position immediately being filled by an effectively identical person who looks slightly different.

some thoughts on season 3

I have so much to say and I don't even know where to start! This season really blew the first two (which I already loved) out of the water, it was funnier, had more heart, and more lore, and it also fixed all the issues that I had with season 2.

Season 2 left a bitter taste in my mouth back when I originally watched it, because I felt it was too meanspirited. I didn't like how often Korvo's character was mean towards Terry, I wasn't a fan of Terry's low self esteem, not for the concepts themselves but because it felt like the show didn't see anything troubling about them that it wanted to resolve. This peaked with the season 2 finale, which to this day is the only episode I sincerely dislike in the whole series, where the family shows absolutely no concern for each other and act borderline out of character mean in order to justify the events. WELL, that was all fixed in season 3. All the problems I had, gone! Not to mention we also got clear roles for what everyone in the family is supposed to do!

On top of that, I swear it was SO funny too. Oh and the animation was different. It was really noticeable.

I guess if I had to voice one complaint, I just felt like the Wall was aimless. It seems to be getting comfortable in its formula of killing off a character everytime they don't know how to progress, especially to characters they just finished introducing or bringing back. It's a pace that leaves me a bit perplexed, and with them having now killed two main characters as well, I find it hard to see what's left to still tell and I wonder if the story won't start to drag. It was like, "oh the power is out, they have to fix it", "oh, guess we're dealing with mosquitoes now", "oh, this new character seems cool... and they're dead" "oh they brought back this character! ...and they're dead" without a clear direction. A lot of "and then, and then, and then", instead of "but this, therefore that".

BUT ANYWAY, I'm not here to discuss the wall. In this post I'd like to talk about Korvo and Terry's characters and their journey.

Korvo goes through an amazing character arc and his character progresses seamlessly every episode. In the first one, being carried around with the others forces him to see that earth makes them happy.

He finally sees things from their perspective and realizes that a team is only as good as their leader, and if they've been letting him down, then he's been letting them down just as hard.

This realization pushes him to give earth more of a chance as he explains. It's a selfless decision, because he still doesn't like earth at this point even if he's clearly made roots, but he sees that his team is trying and it makes him see he's a bit to blame too.

Besides, the only reason he even hates earth in the first place is because it's so confusing, as the addition to his intro rants perfectly encapsulates. Korvo likes things to be straightforward, he likes strict rules and having a set role, he likes feeling capable and in control, but seeing everyone get earth easily while he struggled despite his efforts had him instinctively reject everything earth and stick with what he knew best, his mission and repairing the ship, so he could have a sense of purpose and structure. He sees now that in doing so he was pushing away and stifling the people he loves, his team.

In the first two seasons, the only way Korvo ever engaged earth culture was through Terry. Since he loves him, he'd try to participate to feel included (like the earth eraser), but once again when he could not get it he resorted to antagonizing it. The fact Korvo only consumed earth culture with Terry as a filter is important because now that Korvo has decided to set aside what's basically his whole identity, he's left open and vulnerable with nothing that makes him feel truly like himself.

This is why in the second episode Korvo is so insistent on wanting to have something unique to him. It's not about finding something he likes or is good at, it all hinges on it being something that can become a distinguishing part of him. On the other hand, Terry is very excited that Korvo seems to be opening up to earth, he wants to join him because this is the thing he's always wanted since episode one ("You think you're starting to warm up to earth a little?" "I must admit, with Funbucket around, repairing the ship has lost a little bit of urgency" "Oh my god, you're gonna make me cry"). I think it's hard for Terry to understand why Korvo wouldn't want to include him in these activities, especially because Korvo just has a habit of not communicating his feelings, still.

At the same time, I feel like Terry is also rightfully skeptical, which is why he's initially dismissive, and why later on he has that quip ("and here comes the end of fun!"), he's not used to this New Korvo, and maybe a part of him deep down doubts that it'll last and doesn't want to end up hurt.

Considering the cubic lattice crystallizer pretty much confirms my theory that Terry tends to shove down all negative feelings instead of communicating (not unlike Korvo!):

I'm wondering if maybe Terry's escapades in episode one and three (and that flirting in episode nine when he looks at Korvo smugly while calling someone else hot) were somewhat purposefully to make Korvo jealous, as a way to get back at him for the red goobler incident. I believe he's petty like that and he would.

Speaking of Terry, it seems that with the newfound support of Korvo, he's been able to mend his low self esteem.

And no longer needs the approval of humans, either. Which is, again, another improvement on S2 to me.

To get back on track anyway, in the end of episode two Korvo learns that it's not in fact the things he does that shape his identity, but the bonds he makes and the people he loves. This is important because it's the first step in him prioritizing his team over his mission. It happens slowly and you almost don't realize, but it does. With 99 ships he'll learn that his mission isn't as important as he thought, because there may or may not be thousands of Shlorps out there.

This is freeing knowledge for him because his biggest stressor has always been failing at the mission, it seemed like life and death for him, like the fate of his entire planet rested on his shoulders. He has a sense of obligation, no matter what his personal feelings were, so he also could not allow himself to appreciate Earth, because he knew it would all be gone soon enough, as the mission required. Seemed futile to even get attached to it. What he didn't account for was that he'd get attached to his teammates, and THEY would all get attached to earth life.

Anyway, with this new understanding that the most important thing in his life are the people he loves, it is no wonder now to see him jealous and possessive when he wasn't before. Not as much anyway.

With Korvo knowing how much Terry means to him, he dedicates himself now to supporting him, only to find that he's not the best at it. In fact, he is being bested by someone else. Korvo's never been a fan of not being the most capable person in the room, so this stings particularly hard, especially because he can't afford to lose Terry to some guy. He wants to show that he cares.

Really all his improvement and his genuine attempts to grow roots on earth, his desire to try in the first place, ALL stem from his love for his team, so this is a no brainer.

In the Gargoyle Ray episode Korvo's lesson is just as important. His obsessive need to work on the mission was, of course, a way for him to feel in control. This did not stop there! It extended towards his family too, and so in this episode, the lesson for him seems to be that sometimes, he has to step aside and let others take control. It's what a good leader would do.

Korvo has a lot of anxiety about things being out of control, confusing, of feeling exposed and challenged. I imagine these are all anxieties he got from Shlorp being such a strict totalitarian place, where everything is required to fit the structure otherwise you're a defect and mocked (which I also imagine was Terry's experience :( ), to the point it now feels scary to be in the midst of earth's chaos dealing with conflicting emotions and complex relationships.

In trying so hard to exert control the way he did on Shlorp and the way his anxiety demands, he is once again suffocating his team.

Another important thing he learns in 99 ships, if his mission is successful, his team will have to die. We have a fake out for a moment where it seemed like his family could coexist with his objective, but that is not the case. For the first time I'd say, Korvo is made aware of this conflict, once and for all, that he'll be eventually forced to make a choice! Shlorp... or his team.

Thankfully, Shlorp isn't as important or as good as he once thought (remember s2ep1? hidden ruling class?) not to mention shlorpians have been compared to mold, they're basically an invasive parasitic species that destroys life to reproduce, and if Korvo in any way likes his life on earth, then his goals do not align.

Considering we saw what happens when a Pupa fully terraforms a planet, I don't think there's a chance that it'll happen for us too, as that would just be a repeat. They removed the magic of wondering what'll happen, so it's clear we're headed in another direction.

This seems overall like a honeymoon period for Terry and Korvo, things are going well.

Then, episode eight strikes.

Despite Korvo having made significant improvement which clearly shows in the way the family gets along now, he hasn't addressed a core problems he's always had, his lack of communication. Of course, neither has Terry. Neither of them will bring up when something has hurt them, preferring instead to shove it down so they can continue enjoying their honeymoon phase.

But this can't last, and Terry is forcibly reminded of the red goobler incident while with Korvo. He never knew the full extent of it either, he knew they fucked but it's not like he had seen them. Which by the way, even in the original episode Terry was upset about it ("did you two DOINK?" "we banged, shut up about it"), and it always rubbed me the wrong way how it seemed to be brushed off after that and how Korvo replied especially. Of course, it wasn't exactly "cheating" in the common sense since they didn't consider each other a couple back then, but it was clear there was something unspoken between them. That was also the PEAK of Terry's self esteem issues, so to hear Korvo replace him so easily, I imagine it must have stung. But you know, "shut up about it", and he did. Up until this.

Boom. Shit from the past comes back to bite Korvo, because you can't just decide to move on and start fresh without first properly addressing your past mistakes! He tried the easy way out by ignoring it all, and Terry probably didn't want to ruin what they had now by bringing it up either, but the hurt festered deep down, and here it is now.

It also makes Korvo doubly hypocritical to show jealousy towards Terry in season 3 then, when in S2 he so easily slept with Chris. But that is the beauty of it! He IS being hypocritical, it builds a good conflict. A reason for Terry to be a bit resentful, as a treat.

Sidenote but I found it interesting how the only betrayal they had to make up specifically for this episode that happened off-screen was Terry's and that even then, it was something very minor. I guess my boy has never done anything wrong in his life ever... (I'm joking!!).

Moving on, Korvo is terrified of losing Terry. He tries distracting him immediately. And what does a scared Korvo do? Why, he reverts back to his old self and raises all his walls.

"We're never gonna grow or learn"? Korvo, it's all you've BEEN doing all season.

But as is to be expected, he deflects and distances himself from the hard emotional stuff. The moment it got brought up he risked losing Terry after all, he clearly saw him get mad. So fuck it, keep it all away and there's no risk, right?

I've mentioned elsewhere that this episode feels more like a set up than a complete arc with a start and an end. We are presented what's at the core of their emotional issues, but the characters are not yet equipped to deal with it so they mutually decide to ignore it, and things seem to go back to normal. They don't want to accidentally hurt each other or themselves after all! They have found a fragile equilibrium that they both enjoy.

Finally finished the whole season (I had yet to watch ep11 at the time of writing this whole post), and I can confidently say that it shows the peak of their whole development. For the first time since maybe ever, the family is mature enough to realize that something is really their fault, and instead of deflecting they take responsibility in the most selfless way they can, out of the love they have for the pupa.

Season 1 and 2 fam would've never, and I don't say this to shit on them. They have come so far!!

But unfortunately for them and their last six months of life, I really think this is a big misunderstanding! It was never the sci-fi that was the problem, the episode makes it clear enough that what really upset the pupa was being left alone WHILE they go do sci-fi stuff. He felt lonely. He wanted their attention so he started acting out. Not only is it made clear by him making a whole friend out of nothing, it's also from how I think it was Terry that said they hadn't paid attention to him in TWO WEEKS, and finally the teacher lays it on in the most obvious way, they don't spend enough time with the Pupa, that was the issue.

I also thought this whole situation was very representative of their mission as a whole, as in, they're doing what they're supposed to but it's making them miserable. This is exactly what Shlorp intended! Follow the structure, fall in line, fit your role. The whole stuff with the sci-fi, messing around and having fun, that was never part of the mission. They were effectively breaking free from Shlorp's control and influence and doing their own thing.

It's like a metaphor about not wanting to do the mission anymore, to me. Feels like a bleak and grueling task they've been weighted with, no longer something they want to do or casually feel they should do, but something they are forced to do that's making them unhappy, under the impression that it's "for the good of something".

But they don't want for the pupa to actually complete his evolution! That goes against everything they have built. His evolution SHOULD be tainted. Or else he's gonna grow up to terraform earth, you know? It wasn't necessarily such a bad thing on its own.

I think the pupa has also been feeling upset about realizing his role. He knows his objective will result in the death of the people he loves the most, his family. That was also a factor in his acting out. He never asked for this.

And I don't think the Pupa would want them to be miserable, I think he hasn't even realized that they're forcing themselves to be what they're not for him. He wouldn't want for them to give up everything. He just wants their attention and love...

Anyway, six months of no sci-fi adventures, of doing their jobs, they have both grown so much to be able to do this. It is a testament to what I think has happened a lot this season, how you can change for love. You can find compromise that'll make the people you care about happy. You can act selflessly for someone you love. I think Korvo has been doing a lot of that this season and now it's the whole family doing it.

I don't think this change of being normal will stick anyway, it wouldn't make for very entertaining content to watch. No need to worry.

Still, time is against them, as the pupa is clearly growing up, and the more he grows, the less time they have left...

Anyway, that's all I have to say on this!

Some other spare thoughts that I couldn't fit in the post:

Terry now knows he has adhd!! This is huge to me, I can't get over it! Gone are the days of him thinking he's lazy and stupid and all of that, because now he knows he's really not. I bet that also did wonders for his self esteem. This was really important to me.

Terry not remembering what his role was exceedingly canonizes that, in fact, he's always cared for the pupa from instinct and love, and never out of a sense of duty or obligation. Great!

We finally know what the town they live in is called, AND we know their last names!! Korvo Solar and Terry Opposites?? I somehow expected the opposite (pun not interested, hah) but I'm so happy! It seems they took Korvo's last name then, since they refer to themselves as "The Solars".

I was so enthralled with just how much Korvo compliments Terry this season! A breath a fresh air in comparison to S2. I've talked with friends and they shared the same sentiment.

THE SHLORPIAN ALPHABET IS BACK!! One of my biggest letdowns at the time was just not having anything to translate, even if it was just silly jokes. I haven't translated the ones from S3 yet, but I'm excited to!

Now that Korvo is open to enjoying earth stuff, this opens the door to him and Terry disagreeing on taste, which is just gonna shatter Terry's pink-glasses expectations of how they'd get along sooo much better if Korvo liked earth! That will be fun, we already had glimpses in the trains episode.

Terry's favorite hobby being lines is so perfect for his character, I like to imagine he never looked forward to anything on Shlorp since it was so miserable, and lines are basically the representation of a feeling of anticipation. You'd expect him to be bored out of his mind, but I think one of the things he loves most from being on earth that he didn't have on Shlorp is just, the feeling of being excited for something. So... it's perfect for him! We also needed something that Korvo wouldn't like, so he could demonstrate his love for Terry by doing it anyway. It was a hard balance to strike but they did it. Kudos.

Halk dying was a bad move imo, but I don't actually think he's dead. We'll see.

99 ships? Don't you mean 50? The intro says 100 adults and their replicants, each ship has 2 adults... *comicbook guy voice* boy I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder! (I'm joking)

On a similar note, time traveling sneakers? But Korvo honey you never owned such a thing, that was the whole point of s1ep8... Why haven't you been using those shoessss? I know that whole episode by heart, sorry. This is all poking fun, don't worry.

That lil creacher that died on the ship, that was the guy the shlorpians in s2ep1 were worshipping wasn't it?

I'm really happy that they let Terry be openly bisexual this season, not that they didn't let him before but it's just undeniably obvious now and it made me really happy.

I loved all the characters so much this season, Korvo has truly grown a lot on me. And I feel like all the characters are gonna have very negative feelings about the mission moving forward.

I wonder how the silvercops storyline is going to progress. Their episode was fine, but probably not a rewatcher for me. With some tweaks it could have some serious futurama vibes with the single human in alien world, glen reminded me of fry a lot. I'm afraid of how it could intersect with the aliens (don't want my very fragile dynamics and status quo to be forever altered...) but I do trust the crew and am hopeful.

I LOVE TO SEE WHAT THEIR LIVES WERE LIKE ON SHLORP. We got such a brief new look, but I need more!!! Still I was incredibly happy to see it. Though I guess I found it puzzling that Shlorp had yo-yos as that seemed like the type of fun stuff they'd be against. Like how Terry got reprimanded for wearing his robe collar unbuttoned. Go figure.

"Challenge" Lortober 2022 prompt

The smell of peppermint leaves permeated the den. It was a surprisingly warm day yesterday even for their volcanic home, and I had spent the time with Tallfern and Littledove collecting leaves and berries for the colony’s herb store and gossiping.

To our surprise, we met two strangers that day that introduced themselves as having settled down nearby, requesting advice for how to stay safe here, and bearing gifts from the fertile but hostile land they had come to inhabit. Glacierthorn and Amberwind. They certainly had quite the challenge ahead of them.

Littledove invited them to meet our pack, and escorted them there. They’re always the most friendly and bubbly, perhaps even in the whole colony. They’re wonderful company in the herb store, if a little distracting.

Tallfern, on the other hand, was much more wary, and demanded she watch them from the back whilst they were escorted there. Thinking back, I didn’t really see anything suspicious about the two of them, they were just a couple in their honeymoon phase, a little overly obsessed with each other, maybe, but no threat to us.

I knew that Tallfern was really just worried about the religious fanatics that lived a little too close for comfort. She was clearly worried more about them trying some new secret tactic to kidnap unsuspecting wolves, than the concept of some new neighbouring pack. That cult was the talk of the colony for sure, although the rumours were probably extremely exaggerated, even if they were genuinely barbaric in their beliefs.

One of the most ridiculous rumours was that they were throwing wolves into the volcanos. I just wonder where in Loria these ideas even come from. There’d be none of them left if it was true. I find it hard to believe that they even claim to follow Korvo.

The strangers requested a council of wolves that could advise them on how to live here and face the challenges this place presented. This meant Littledove and I were also included, for our knowledge of healing herbs and Tallfern for her engineering ability.

Advice mainly involved how to spot if an eruption would occur soon and to evacuate if they saw any of the signs, although I talked to them about herbs that I use frequently in day to day activities. I realise now that Littledove was pulling a funny face at the time. I’ll have to ask what was on their mind.

Finally, Tallfern taught them how to construct a seismometer which detected the direction of earthquakes in the eight compass directions. They were sent on their way with materials to create an evacuation shelter, along with carpenting experts Ghostshine and Willowtuft.

After finishing sorting out yesterday’s collection of herbs, I found Littledove fussing with their bedding of feathers, clearly they still had something on their mind.

“Um, hi Fairyfrost,” Littledove distractedly greeted her

“Hello Littledove, I just wanted to ask what upset you about those two strangers the other day?”

“They didn’t upset me. I’m just worried about them, that's all. They seemed so lovely but they know next to nothing about healing,” they sighed, “And they didn’t want to be taught under either of us, so they're at risk of something unpredictable!”

“I can’t say I understand how you feel. We only just met them yesterday and you said yourself that they're just causing trouble for themselves,” I paused, thinking about what Littledove might want to hear, “Do you want us to do something about it? What were you thinking about doing?”

“I really want to help them whilst they try and find someone to be a permanent healer.”

“Wait, you mean you want to live with them? I’m not sure that they are actually looking for healers at all.”

“If you were listening to them yesterday you would know that they wanted to start a colony - healers included. It seemed like they wanted to find a healer who wanted to join, but that will take a long time.”

“I tuned them out the moment they started cooing at eachother, sorry.”

“They were cooing at eachother the whole time.”

“Exactly,” I paused, “Well, if you want to go help them, then you have my blessing. You’re not my student any more.”

“Really?” The zerda yelped in excitement.

“Yes, really. If you have any trouble, or come across some ailment you’re not familiar with, feel free to ask me about it,” I almost held back, but then asked, “Tell me when you find someone to train, so I’ll know when you’re coming back soon? I’ll miss you.”

“Of course. I’ll miss you too,” the zerda mumbled before nuzzling into my side, “Goodbye!”

They skittered off into the den to collect their herb-collecting bag and to say goodbye to the rest of their packmates before asking for an escort to the other pack’s den.

Just watched the second season of Solar Opposites. I really enjoyed it, but my main question is--what's the deal with Terry and Korvo? The show keeps hinting that they might be dating but won't say it outright. Normally I'd call it queerbaiting, but the show has made it clear that Terry and Korvo actually are queer and attracted to men (or male-coded aliens), so...I dunno. If they're romantically involved, is there a reason why the show won't say it outright?

Solar Opposites in: Ultra Opposites Episode #6: “All Hands on Deck” (for @avaveevo)

Here is out it began, a pirate is watching over the town evilly, who goes by the name of, Captain Rusty!

Captain Rusty: Well, well. This is GeenaDavisville. Let’s wreck some havoc boys!

The Pirate Army laugh evilly. The next day, Terry sees an attack happening around town.

Terry: Holy shit! Korvo, come here!

Korvo: Coming my love! Kids, let’s go!

Jesse: Yes! Crime-fighting time, bitach!

Yumyulack: Hell yeah! Let’s fucking go!

The group transforms into the Ultra Opposites as they do their super hero stances.

Terry/Solar Flare: Ultra Opposites, let's kick ass!

Then, the Ultra opposites flew to the city, while everyone watches them, including Yumyulack and Jesse’s classmate Sonya

Sonya: Wow.

The Ultra Opposites sees a bunch of pirate goons and starts to fight them off.

Terry/Solar Flare: Eat fire, motherfuckers!

Solar Flare shoots fireballs at the goons

Jesse/Electra: Guess what Goonies! You just got Electra’d

Electra waves her wrecking ball around as she channels her anger and hits it with the electric charge of it!

Goon: Get the ice guy!

Legendary Super Shlorpian growls as his eyes glow aquamarine and he turns into his Super Shlorpian form. Solar Flare bites his lip as he looks at his husband.

Super Shlorpian Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: You pirates bitches need to fucking chill out!

Legendary Super Shlorpian fires his ice breath at the goons that freeze them and roars. He uses his ice breath to freeze the goons as Solar Flare blushes at his husband and kiss him on the cheek. Legendary Super Shlorpian giggles and blushes.

Yumyulack/Psylock: Now it’s my turn!

Psylock uses his mind blast with his kind reading powers and it blast the guards away. Psylock charges up his powers and yells as he lets out a brain wave explosion. Daryl blushes as he smiles

Sonya: Wow! These aliens are heroes!

Daryl: Hey, babe!

Psylock winks at Daryl.

Goon: Aaah! Retreat!

Jesse/Electra: Yeah! That's right! Ya better run!

The town cheer, but then Solar Flare looks at the pirate symbol.

Terry/Solae Flare: Hmmm….

Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: turning back to his normal self What is it dear!

Yumyulack/Psylock: What is it?

Terry/Solar Flare: A pirate symbol. We better get this to Janiz.

Back at the house, Janiz looks at the photo of the pirate symbol.

Janiz: Yep this Captain Rusty alright. Dangerous pirate of all the lands. Been plundering villages and stuff

Jesse/Electra: Yeesh. I had no idea pirates were real!

Janiz: Well, they are. And I think they're after you guys.

Korvo/The Legendary Super Shlorpian: How do you know who he is?

Janiz: Let’s just say. I read some history. gets out a book about Shlorp and other planets’ history and creatures

Terry/Solar Flare: Damn.

Janiz opens a book, which reveals the facts about Rusty.

Janiz: Says here a mermaid broke his heart which caused him to become evil.

Terry/Solar Flare: What? Seriously

Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: Well that’s a dumb reason for revenge

Janiz: What the book says it's true.

Jesse/Electra: I agree this is bullshit!

Janiz: And it gets worse!

Yumyulack/Psylock: It does?

Janiz turns to a page to reveal an ancestor of Korvo and Janiz fighting Captain Rusty.

Janiz: Turns out Rusty knows about the Cosmic Blast! I think he might be after you powers!

Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: He is?

Janiz: Luckily our ancestor stopped him. But Rusty vowed to get even one day!

Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: Oh fuck

Jesse/Electra: Well, that's it! We're fucking done for! OUR LIVES ARE OVER!

Solar Flare then notice a strange black page in the book while L.S.S. comforts Electra.

Terry/Solar Flare: Huh?

Janiz: What is it?

Solar Flare flips the page over the black page where it has a headline…. “MUNDANE”

Terry/Solar Flare: What the fuck?

Yumyulack/Psylock: What's a Mundane?

Janiz: Another monster Shlorpian…

Janiz explains the origins of a Mundane which shows a young Shlorpian who resembles to Terry walking but then a group of Shlorpians starts to taint and ridicule him.

Janiz: Long ago, during the times of the discovery of the Super Shlorpian, a young Shlorpian was always ridiculed and put down by others

Terry/Solar Flare: What happened to them?

Janiz: He ran off alone, the reason why he was ridicule is because of a pair of lava black scabs all over his body, which was something he was born with

The young Shlorpian runs off in tears, and he tries to fall off a cliff.

Jesse/Electra: That's awful.

Janiz: He was so depressed and overwhelmed, he fell off a cliff until suddenly, a Super Shlorpian came and saved his life…

The young Shlorpian fell as he close his eyes, but then he open his eyes and a sees a Super Shlorpian. The young Shlorpian gasps.

Janiz: He so amazed by its beauty. It was our ancestors, Koran, the first one to become a Super Shlorpian.

Yumyulack/Psylock: Woah...really?

Janiz: Yes. He knew about the young Shlorpian’s condition. So, he gave him a special medicine, that helped his wounds

The young Shlorpian hugs Koran and leaves.

Janiz: But days past, the Shlorpians still continue to ridicule the young Shlorpian, even after his cure condition. That is one day, he suddenly began to change.

The young Shlorpian starts to feel a sharp pain in his head while his finger tips suddenly turns black.

Janiz: Something in him snapped, turning him into a terrifying creature.

The young Shlorpian eyes then starts glowing, he starts growing bigger and muscular, his voice deepens and his robes and shows rip apart as he roars. The other Shlorpians ran off screaming as the beast snarls.

Jesse/Electra: Did he become the Mundane creature thingy?

Janiz: Tragically, yes…

Korvo/The Legendary Super Shlorpian: Oh no...

The young Shlorpian, now a Mundane growls until he sees another female Shlorpian in trouble. He roars and kills the bandit that tried to rob her as she gasp. She then smiles and comforts the Mundane creature, that starts whimpering.

Young Female Shlorpian: Ssh…

The Mundane stops snarling and sobs. The young female Shlorpian soothes as she smiles at it, it then whimpers as she wipes as his tears and turns back into the young Shlorpian, the female Shlorpian smiles. The flashback ends.

Janiz: Afterwards, the young half Mundane fell in love with and wedded with a lifemate. But, as the years past, it has passed on to their Replicants during their come of age, who passed it onto theirs, once they turned 13 years old. Luckily, the only way to control the beast within ia to channel their powers and remember the ones who love them the most before they lose it.

Terry/Solar Flare: Shit. That's deep...

Legendary Super Shlorpian starts crying.

Jesse/Electra: I agree…

Solar Flare sees his husband crying and gasps.

Terry/Solar Flare: Baby, what’s wrong?

Korvo/The Legendary Super Shlorpian: That poor Shlorpian...he's been through so much...

Terry/Solar Flare comforts Legendary Super Shlorpian as he holds him close.

Terry/Solar Flare: I know, honey, I know. But it's okay. That was a long time ago.

Electra then looks at the monster and then realize something.

Jesse/Electra: Hey I think that’s the monster from my dreams when I was a sproutling.

Yumyulack/Psylock: It is?

Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: You saw a Mundane as an infant?

Jesse/Electra: Yeah. Terry disappeared and that monster showed up. It was crazy.

Terry/Solar Flare: No way…

The flashback starts with baby Jesse crying until she saw something through own eyes but there was muffling. It was Mundane with glowing orange eyes, but looks familiar. The Mundane heads up close to baby Jesse as it picks her up and starts soothing her as she continues crying.

Mundane: muffling It's okay...Sssh. Daddy's here. Don't cry.

Baby Jesse whimpers but then notice something behind those orange eyes as she taught the Mundane’s face and giggles. Back to the present...

Jesse/Electra: The weirdest thing is... he sounded like you, Terry.

Terry/Solar Flare: Really? To be honest, I don’t remember any of that…

Jesse/Electra: Me neither. One minute I open my eyes, I was in Terry’s arms and he was back and the Mundane was gone.

Janiz: Odd...we must-

Suddenly, they heard a screaming sound. It was Sonya, who is taken by Captain Rusty.

Yumyulack/Psylock: SONYA!

Jesse/Electra: Oh no! Our classmate is in trouble!

Legendary Super Shlorpian wipes away his tears and looks determined.

Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: Come on guys! We got a girl to save!

Terry/Solar Flare: Got it!

Once Legendary Super Shlorpian transforms into his Super Shlorpian form and carries Pupa, who giggles, the heroes fly off to save their friend. The heroes land on the ship.

Captain Rusty: Well well well, if it isn’t the Ultra Opposites and their pet blob!

Pupa is offended.

Jesse/Electra: Hey! Don’t talk to our baby brother like that!

Captain Rusty: Well it is!

Terry/Solar Flare: No he is not! He is our precious sweet baby boy, you fucker!

Korvo/The Legendary Super Shlorpian: Give Sonya back!

Yumyulack/Psylock: Yeah! Let our classmate go!

Captain Rusty: Battle my first mate and I'll consider.

Terry/Solar Flare: Uh oh… I don’t like the sound of that…

A giant robot appears.

Yumyulack/Psylock: A fucking robot?! That is not piratey!

Captain Rusty: Crush 'em!

The Ultra Opposites smirk and springs into action while Sonya gasp in amazement. Jesse/Electra attacks with her wrecking ball. It created a hole in the robot’s left arm, that spark while Electra ducks and grabs Sonya as Sonya screams.

Sonya: Woah! You are awesome!

Jesse/Electra: Really?! Thanks, the name is Electra!

Sonya: Well, Electra, I appreciate the rescue.

Psylock then creates wave blast that nearly knocks the robot as it tries to grab him, but luckily Psylock manage to fly up.

Yumyulack/Psylock: Jesus, that thing has a screw loose!

Super Shlorpian Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: Stand back! I got this!

Legendary Super Shlorpian uses his ice breath. The robot’s metal then reflected the ice breath while the Ultra Opposites fly up while Legendary Super Shlorpian carries Sonya!

Super Shlorpian Korvo/Legendary Super Shlorpian: You okay?

Sonya: Yeah. Thanks to you four! Thanks for coming to rescue me!

Terry/Solar Flare: No prob. Now let's-

The Ultra Opposites then dodge a laser shot by the robot as they courageously fly back down there. Psylock reads the robot's mind to find his weakness

Yumyulack/Psylock: I found his weakness! A trample wire in his head! That can help take him out!

Jesse/Electra: I'll handle it!

Electra grins as he gets out her wrecking ball but then Captain Rusty grabbed her as she gasp.

Jesse/Electra: Hey!

Captain Rusty: You're not going anywhere, you little brat!

Yumyulack/Psylock: Oh no! He’s got Electra!

Something in Solar Flare snaps.

Terry/Solar Flare: Ggggrrrr! You bitch! flies down there with orange glowing eyes

Solar Flare then lands and growls as he looks at Captain Rusty in fury.

Captain Rusty: Ooh. Someone snapped. I'm so-

Solar Flare punches Captain Rusty in the face as he throws Electra towards the robot as she gets out her wrecking ball as she grins

Jesse/Electra: TAKE THIS!

Electra swings her electric ball around and it hears straight to the robot’s head, destroying it as it explodes.

Jesse/Electra: You just got Electra’d!

Everyone cheers for her.

Captain Rusty: Noooo! My robot! You ruined everything you little- suddenly gets punched by Solar Flare, who suddenly starts snarling in rage

Korvo/The Legendary Super Shlorpian: Terry? Are you-

Solar Flare grabs Captain Rusty by his neck part and growls as he clench his fist.

Yumyulack/Psylock: Jesus, Terry! Calm down!

Terry/Solar Flare: screams in fury DON’T GO ANYWHERE NEAR ME OR MY FAMILY AGAIN!

Legendary Super Shlorpian runs up to his husband and tries to soothe him.

The two superhero alien husbands then kiss away in a orbital background. But as the camera pans up to the sky, a black glowing orb piece appears as it heads towards Ophelia’s fortress. Ophelia grabs it as she looks at it curiosity.

Ophelia: Hmm...interesting.

As she looks at it closely, Ophelia grins evilly as she puts it in a loin cloth and folds it carefully without breaking it.

Ophelia: Brace yourselves, Ultra Opposites.

Ophelia laughs evilly while the camera pains over to a photo of Miss Frankie with an X on it and the episode fades to black.
