So the ADHD Handbook post struck a chord with a lot of people...
I don't think I have it in me to write the book I suggested, mainly because most of what I want to write about is variable by situation. I can't actually offer a magic formula for getting a good assessment, all I would be able to do is say "Here are the warning signs, here's my personal story, shit's just rough". Which I could do but it'd be basically an entire book of "shrug emoji". The best possible way would probably be to offer it as a workbook, like "Here is a page for you to record every communication with the clinic doing your testing. Here is a page for you to write down possible other approaches to getting your medication if the pharmacy is out." etc.
I do think I might write it as a novel of some kind. Possibly even a novel about someone writing a handbook, I haven't decided. I had a dream last night about the book, in which I saw a woman watching a revolution taking place in the distance, thinking, "This is not what I intended when I set out to write a self-help book." Baller way to start a novel, honestly.
Anyway there were several suggestions for books in the notes, so I thought I'd compile those here. I have read none of these, so I can't vouch for their contents, but I'm including what my readers said about them.
@blogquantumreality linked to How To ADHD by Jessica McCabe, who is a well-known ADHD youtuber (I haven't found her videos super helpful but they're also not aimed at me). @knitsinweirdplaces added "The last section of the How to ADHD book is literally called 'how to change the world' and exactly points out we can advocate for a more disability friendly world that traumatizes ADHDer less in the first place. It's the only book I've read that hits the balance of 'your brain has immutable challenges' and 'these strats may help' right. Bonus, it is inclusive of people who use adhd meds and those who don't/can't."
@theindefinitearticle mentioned "I read how to keep house while drowning recently and it's been much more practical for me in terms of actual usable advice." This book has also come up numerous times during National Clean Your Home Month as a helpful guide to cleaning.
@buginateacup said "The year I met my brain is the only one I've read that actually felt like it was making useful suggestions for living with ADHD."
@cabloom said "iampayingattention on Instagram wrote How Not To Fit In."
@grison-in-space said "Do you have any idea how over the top excited I was when I found I Overcame My Autism and All I Got Was This Lousy Anxiety Disorder?"
@doubleminorforroughing wrote "Please read Devon Price. He wants to tear it all down and I love it." I will add that I don't think I've read Laziness Does Not Exist but I have read Price's shortform work extensively and I think he's been very influential in rethinking how we frame laziness and productivity in relation to both work and neurodivergence, so I can second the recommendation.

Hey gang, Joy here!
As you've all likely noticed, the podcast has been on a bit of a break recently in favor of playing Stardew Valley. This post is to let you know the hiatus will be continuing for a while longer.
Nothing is wrong -- we're both just exhausted and trying to practice what we preach.
Both Aye and myself have full workloads at the moment, and while we have a lot of fun hosting the podcast, I won't cheapen what we do by saying it doesn't take a lot of time to prepare, not the mention the energy we have to bring to make it fun for everyone watching/listening.
The podcast is still fun for us, but realistically speaking, between our workloads and personal lives, neither of us has the mental or physical bandwidth left to expend, so we're doing the responsible thing and taking time to rest and avoid burnout, something which I am sure all of you understand and support.
So, when will the podcast be back?
We're not quite sure at the moment. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, once we've got our groove back. Then we'll be back to winding each other up every other week. In the meantime, we're enjoying playing games together and just socializing with everyone who comes to watch.
That said, there will be no stream today. Both of us are, to use what I believe the official diagnostic term is, "fucking knackered." We're taking the day off and having a kip. But we'll see you on Wednesday for more Stardew! So you should definitely come hang out and chill with us. It's a fun time and we really love hanging out with everyone who shows up.
Right. Have fun and take care out there, and thanks for being supportive and understanding. It means a lot to us.

Have y'all read Joy Demorra's Hunger Pangs yet, because if you haven't you should.
Also does anyone remember this meme? A few Novembers ago @thebibliosphere put the trio on the ot3 bunk and I feverishly sketched this up before immediately getting sick and completely forgetting all art until I got better.
But nothing can stop my love for these three!!!
Also I know Nathan doesn't go to bed a wolf every night but wolf made the meme funnier.

AT LAST.
Two books that, on the surface, look nothing alike but have one crucial similarity: I'm gonna read the heck out of them. If you enjoy one or the other, definitely worth checking out!

Hunger Pangs Summary:
Captain Nathan J. Northland had no idea what to expect when he returned home to Lorehaven injured from war, but it certainly wasn’t to find himself posted on an island full of vampires. An island whose local vampire dandy lord causes Nathan to feel strange things he’d never felt before. Particularly about fangs.
Heartstopper Summary:
Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. A bestselling LGBTQ+ graphic novel about life, love, and everything that happens in between.

Archiving Fanfic / Evernote
There’s been some discussion lately, which seems to come round every few years, of fanfiction loss and what happens when archives unexpectedly collapse, or even just when people delete their personal archives. It’s why when I find myself enjoying a fanfic or a juicy bit of meta, I usually clip it to Evernote.
Evernote -- essentially a web clone of Microsoft OneNote -- acts like a bookmark in that it retains a link to the original material, but also clones the page you’re clipping and stores it for you as a page in a private archive, which you can back up to your desktop using the Evernote app. It creates an editable copy, usually retaining embedded images and other text formatting, that you can sort into “notebooks” (folders) and free tag (the tags can also be grouped, and it will suggest tags on newly clipped material).
You can sign up at evernote.com and download the web clipper here; when you’re at the page of a fanfic you want to save, just click the green elephant head in your browser toolbar and it will outline everything it will save for you (you can adjust the outline appropriately in several ways -- full page, condensed page, “more than that”, “less than that” etc). You can then access your copy of the fic through Evernote when logged into the Evernote site, or through the Evernote app.
I just tested it on fanfiction.net and it works fine; it’s always worked extremely well on AO3, and works fair-to-middling on Tumblr (it tends to get a little buggy when fancy tumblr layouts are involved). As far as I’m aware there’s no mass-scrape ability so you do have to go to each page individually to clip them, but it is faster and in some ways more easy to organize than right-click-save-as or copy-paste (the latter of which you can’t do on FFN anyway).
Nothing that I love lives only online -- fanfic, television, art, what-have-you. If I love it, I own a copy of it that I can access without internet, that’s just my policy. Not always possible for everyone or in every condition, but it’s rarely done me wrong.
There’s more info about Evernote, some of it outdated, in my Evernote tag; happy clipping!

So today, I made @thebibliosphere 's shortbread recipe (I halved it as per my first time test try recipe policy) mainly because a super typhoon hit the Philippines next door so that meant the weather is rainy and gusty in pulses which meant no instant melted butter like regular days, and boy oh boy, the smells that bloomed from the countertop oven during the bake was so terribly enticing I kept wandering over to get my free smells like I'm at a Famous Amos instead of watching for overbaking. I did in face overbaked it a touch but it added a nice crispy skin in contrast to the delicious inner texture.
I impatiently waited for it to cool enough for me to not completely sear off my taste buds and
Friends.
Folx.
I kept uttering "oh no" with every bite.
I was on discord telling people 'oh no' with every bite.
Because this is the first time I've made Scottish shortbread (I've made pie crusts and short crusts before) as I've tasted the imported Walkers many times before and found them floury, cornstarchy and wanting.
Oh no, fresh baked shortbread is Really Fucking Good. Oh nooooo it's Really Good 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was honestly so quick to throw together (highly recommend chilling if you're in the tropics like me) and I used the chilling time to pre-heat my oven, cause I'm the slowest at measuring then assembling. But oh man.
I ate 3 fingers in a row.
It's 9 hours later and I'm resisting just decimating the rest of it cause I want to try its next day texture.

POV, you've just asked @thebibliosphere and @ayeforscotland if Madame Web is any good 😕😬
Thanks for sticking with us today, folks. The stream cutting out in the middle was a fun little glitch, but it's not @theayesphere without something going wrong 😂

I was extremely lucky yesterday - I never win anything, but I won a copy of this ebook:
Tumblr media
And, well *looks up from nose buried in book* basically, go read it, it's brilliant!
(it's a queer polyam supernatural romance - if that's at all your thing, do consider this a glowing recommendation!)
Thank you again @thebibliosphere 😘
