Hear me out—Redacted Supernatural(-ish) AU [Milo/Sweetheart Edition]
Listen listen i’m trying to finish supernatural (for the like tenth time over the last five years) and this idea would not leave me alone. Hear me out:
Sweetheart, who comes from a line of hunters, mother died when they were young, father taught them the ropes until he went missing. Milo, who is the son of a hunter, but he was raised normally. his dad died as well. Sweetheart is on a vendetta to get their dad back. He wasn’t always the best to them, but he’s all they got. they’re in town hunting something else, and decide to stop at Milo’s dad’s place to ask for help. they’re met with a woefully ignorant Milo and his aging mother. Marie explains what happened, which also reveals the truth to Milo. Milo doesn’t believe it at first, he throws the equivalent of a temper tantrum, which is understandable. He storms off, much to Sweetheart’s chagrin because it wasn’t safe out there. Marie tips them off that when Milo gets upset he usually ends up at the old park. They go out looking for him, worried that the thing they were hunting was going to beat them to it. They find him where his mother said he would be. They were relieved for about three seconds. the spirit got ahold of Milo. Sweetheart’s instincts kick in, and with Milo being a distraction they finally got the upper hand. When the thing was finally dealt with, they were able to tend to Milo, who got a few nasty gashes and was reasonably spooked, but was overall fine. the spirit got ahold of Milo. Sweetheart’s instincts kick in, and with Milo being a distraction they finally got the upper hand. When the thing was finally dealt with, they were able to tend to Milo, who got a few nasty gashes and was reasonably spooked, but was overall fine. He gets patched up, things get explained in broad strokes, they go back to his place, the events get explained to his mom. Sweetheart is urged to rest for a bit, stay the night, but they refuse. When they were getting ready to leave Milo stopped them. He wants to go with. He lost his dad young, didn’t really know the guy, and he could tell that this meant a lot to them. He wasn’t taking no for an answer, even after Sweetheart pointed out he’d be dead weight knowing nothing ab what they do. He promised he could learn. Marie wasn’t thrilled, but she knew it was inevitable. She made Sweetheart promise that they’d look after Milo if he went. Sweetheart still wasn’t convinced, and Milo basically had to strong arm his way into their car. They finally stopped fighting, figured he’d probably get scared off after a few hunts. They’d bring him back, leave him to live out his life, just a bit more aware of the nightmares. They’d be rid of him soon enough, they just had to wait. This doesn’t happen. No matter what, Milo still sticks by them. Sweetheart had given Milo information as they went, letting him look through their dad’s journal when they were staying in motels. They’d answer the questions, the inquiries, the what if situations. The two get closer over the months. Sweetheart is afraid they’re catching real feelings for this guy. They couldn’t love in a profession like theirs, not really. It was too dangerous. It’s why their dad never let them get too attached. But, something about Milo was… different. of course this story goes on, they fall in love, learn how to keep loving each other, trials and tribulations and near death experiences, the two find Sweetheart’s dad, he goes off on his own, Milo and Sweetheart probably keep hunting together but this time unabashedly in love, blah blah.
thats… that’s all i have. BUT i do really like this, i’m keeping it close to my heart.

A Day with Uncle Vinnie: Ch 2
Part 1
Ch 2-The Dryads of Minty Woods
On the way to Minty Woods, Vinnie showed off his cloud sculpting skills, carving Balthazar’s face out of a thick, gray nimbus cloud. He may have exaggerated the mustache a tiny bit, but otherwise it was a near perfect replica. Milo seemed to like it too.
As they drew closer, Milo stuck his nose out and sniffed the air. He glanced around in confusion, nearly slipping out of Vinnie’s arms as he attempted to find the source of the scent. “Minty Woods is a great place to clear your head,” Vinnie explained as he descended. “And where your Aunt Savannah gets all her perfume from. There was this one time a few decades ago where I had this bright idea of collecting essences from the plant life here and created my own bottle of perfume to give to her, but it didn’t work out. Long story short, I mixed the scent of ripe doonkleberries with the scent of Silly Lilies, and turns out when combined they create a giant berry bush that never stops laughing. I had to reorganize the entire Grand Library by author as punishment for that stunt. Not fun, Milo.”
He set Milo next to a blueberry bush. Milo reached out and tried to pluck a berry, but flinched when a sharp twig cut his finger. Whimpering, Milo held it up to Vinnie’s mouth. Vinnie kissed it better, giving adding a loud smack for god measure. Satisfied, Milo sat down on the root of a large tree and played with the fallen leaves strewn about the base.
Vinnie sung an improvised tune as he summoned a basket and began picking the blueberries. “Oh, we’re picking the blueberries. Picking the blueberries. And when we get through we’re gonna eat ‘em all too, cause blueberries are delicious. You know, I should make that a full song. What do you think, Milo? Milo?”
No answer.
He quickly encased the half-full basket in a bubble for protection, then slid it under the bush so he could easily reclaim it later. “Milo?” he called. “If you’re playing hide and seek, be sure to tell me first next time! Well, technically you can’t talk yet but I can still read context clues like a...a context clue reader person thingy!” He frantically checked underneath a boulder, then circled the thick truck of the tree where Milo had been sitting.
Balthazar was going to kill him! Maybe not literally kill him, but one of his patented five hour lectures was close enough! Why hadn’t the ever merciful Queen outlawed those yet?
The initial panic subsiding, Vinnie calmed down enough and inhaled, taking in the tangy scent of the nearby mint plants. He heard several faint giggles above him, but it certainly didn’t sound like any laughter a baby could make.
After several minutes of straining to listen, a loud squeal pierced the air. “OH MY STARS AREN’T YOU JUST THE CUTEST LITTLE THING EVER!”
Dryads. They always had a habit of temporarily stealing Anacardian babies to gush over how adorable they were. The babies were eventually returned to the parents, often with a laurel crown as a parting gift. It was a much preferable alternative to babies straying into the Black Forest, or worse, into Gethen territory.
Vinnie slowly levitated towards the canopy, ducking to avoid the branches. He followed the giggling, taking care to stay hidden among the foliage. He finally spotted Milo.
A trio of dryads surrounded him, taking turns pinching his cheeks and combing their long, flowing hair. Vinnie blushed. Dryads had never been known for their modesty. Luckily, the ones who had taken Milo had certain areas covered.
“Roseberry, give him to me,” said the one with curly black hair. She set a mirror aside, holding out her hands expectantly.
Roseberry pouted. “But you already held him, Mapledew. It’s still my turn.” Milo batted at the flaming red braid, transfixed as it swung back and forth.
“I haven’t gotten a chance to hold him at all,” the third complained. She hung upside down on the branch, her wavy blonde hair dangling.
“You were the one who took him in the first place!” Mapledew exclaimed. “Don’t be greedy, Honeyvine!”
As they squabbled, Vinnie wondered if he should ask for Milo back politely, or just put them all in bubbles and run away. Both were equally viable options. The dryads would be no match for a Guardian after all. Vinnie sighed, deciding it wouldn’t hurt to ask if he could take Milo back. Maybe if he explained that Milo was hungry....
He slid out of his hiding place carefully. “Hey, girls,” he said awkwardly. “I was wondering if I could have Milo back now.”
“We’ll give him back when we-” Mapledew huffed as Roseberry elbowed her sharply. “Ow, what?”
“Do you realize that this is one of the Guardians?” Roseberry hissed. “This is the first time I’ve ever been in the presence of one so powerful-” her sea green eyes looked Vinnie over, “-and handsome.” Suddenly not caring about her possessions, she threw her comb and mirror to the ground while hugging Milo with her other hand. She smiled and patted the open space next to her.
“You’re going to have seven years of bad luck,” Honeyvine warned.
“Reading those dusty tomes about Mortal superstitions again, are we?” Roseberry asked.
“They aren’t dusty!” Honeyvine scowled. “Just because I’m bound to a tree doesn’t mean I have to be illiterate!”
Vinnie took the offered space, and Roseberry moved closer to him so that their shoulders touched. “Vah!” Milo pointed to him.
“Still not talking yet?” Mapledew asked.
Vinnie shook his head. “Just monosyllables right now. He’ll get there.”
“You’re much more fun than the other one,” Roseberry murmured, caressing his cheek. Vinnie moved Milo to his lap so he didn’t fall.
Startled, Vinnie gently took her hand off his face. “What other one?”
“The one with the pronounced jaw,” Roseberry replied. “The caretaker of that little girl whose feet never touched the ground.”
“Savannah told us what happened to her,” Mapledew added. “She flew above the woods with hardly a care. At one point she managed to sneak away from Orton and came here at night, alone. I was on my way to Stardrizzle’s pool party when I saw her playing in the trees. She was so cute that I just had to bring her with me to show her off as a surprise. The battles over who got to do her hair, you wouldn’t imagine....”
“Don’t remind me! It took me weeks to wash that smelly sap out of my hair!” Roseberry moaned. “And I still haven’t received an apology from Hollypatch yet!”
“Honeyvine, do you wanna hold Milo?” Vinnie asked. “Just for a bit. Milo and I still need to eat. I have a basket of blueberries on the ground I was planning to use for lunch.”
Honeyvine gladly cuddled Milo against her chest while Vinnie retrieved the basket. “He’s still growing,” she said. “Blueberries aren’t going to fill his tummy.”
“Good point. I didn’t really pack anything for lunch,” Vinnie said, popping the bubble that enveloped the basket. He took a position between Roseberry and Honeyvine. “I wasn’t expecting to run into dryads either. Not that this is unpleasant. Far from it actually.”
Roseberry nodded. “We weren’t expecting such a youthful, handsome Guardian. But lo and behold, you picked our part of the woods to wander by. Not to worry, we wouldn’t want you two to starve. ”
“We have a vegetable garden that’s just begging to be used,” Mapledew said. “Of course, we derive all nourishment from our trees so we have no practical use for it. We’d be happy to pick a few things for you.”
“So what’s the point of keeping a vegetable garden if you never eat anything from it?” Vinnie asked.
Roseberry let out a high-pitched giggle. “We just like the aesthetics. Besides, Honeyvine had been begging for it ever since she got hold of Anacardian botany guides.”
“Let’’s go,” Mapledew tugged on Roseberry’s hand. “The little one needs to eat.”
“Not to mention his incredibly handsome caretaker,” Roseberry blew a kiss before swiftly hopping from branch to branch to the ground.
“So,” Vinnie said awkwardly. “How do you get the books if you can’t leave Minty Woods?”
Honeyvine looked away. “You wouldn’t understand.”
“Look, books may not be my thing, but it doesn’t look like Roseberry and Mapledew share your interests,” Vinnie replied.
“None of the dryads do,” a tiny, wistful smile formed on her face as she popped a blueberry into Milo’s mouth. “There’s an Anacardian teen who brings me these books. It’s strange. Being stuck in one place, I would think she wouldn’t be interested at all because I have nothing to tell her. It’s always ‘Tell me how Glensong put her hair up in that funny-looking bun’ or ‘I can’t believe Raindaisy isn’t interested in Fireaspen, the nerve of her’. It gets tiring after a while. And they don’t make for interesting stories the way all the past Guardians do.”
Vinnie placed a comforting hand on her back. “Have you considered writing your own stories? That would be cool. You could become the first ever dryad author.”
“What would I write about?” Honeyvine shook her head. Several pink blossoms fell, Milo sticking one in his mouth. Vinnie pulled it out before he could chew off any petals. “Gina has the most amazing tales that happen within her school, and I have none.”
“Make one up?” Vinnie suggested.
“It’s possible,” Honeyvine murmured, deep in thought. She loosened her hold on Milo, and Vinnie caught him before he fell, settling him in his lap.
They sat in silence for a while, until Roseberry and Mapledew came back with a basket full of vegetables. “You like tomatoes, right?” Mapledew plucked a plump, juicy tomato out of the basket and pinched it slightly. A tiny stream of juice squirted into Milo’s mouth, and he reached out for more.
Roseberry wove two bowls out of the branches while Honeyvine carefully gathered moisture from the leaves to rinse the vegetables. Mapledew used a sharpened twig to cut a tomato, popping a slice into Milo’s mouth with a light, airy laugh.
Vinnie’s stomach growled. Roseberry pouted, waggling her finger at him. He grinned sheepishly.
Finally, the salads were finished. Mapledew placed Milo in her lap, cooing softly to him as Honeyvine slowly fed him several pieces of lettuce. Gratefully taking his bowl from Roseberry, he settled against the trunk and ate his lunch.
“Where are you taking Milo next?” Roseberry asked.
“I’ve been thinking Jade Cavern,” Vinnie replied. “He’d love the jewels there. And after that we’re heading back to Verity Palace so I can clean him up. We’re meeting the others at the Lucky Clover tonight for dinner.”
“The others? Including the total bore?” Roseberry asked.
Vinnie raised an eyebrow. “Depends. Are you talking about Orton or Balthazar?”
She laid on her stomach in front of Vinnie, one arm dangling lazily in the air. “Is Balthazar the mustached one?” He nodded. “He’s never been that much fun to prank. That one time I threw a mango at his head, he turned bright red and started demanding that we dryads start covering ourselves. Honestly.”
Vinnie laughed. “Man, I wish I could’ve seen that!”
“Milo certainly has a huge appetite!” Mapledew brought him over. She placed a laurel wreath on his head, carefully fitting it between his ears. “He’s all yours now.”
Vinnie set his empty bowl aside, stepping off the branch. “Thanks for everything, girls!” he said. “Say goodbye, Milo!” Milo babbled in his arms.
“Have fun in Jade Cavern!” Roseberry exclaimed. “Come back and visit me again!”
Honeyvine bowed. “Thank you for the advice, Lord Vinnie.”
Mapledew smiled. “Take care of Milo. He’s one of a kind.”
“You’ll like Jade Cavern a lot!” Vinnie explained. “Jade Cavern is full of jade. I guess it’s obvious from the name, and Balthazar could probably tell you more about its history. But I’ll let him bore you with all that. We’re here to have fun!”
