It’s been one of those days where nothing goes your way. You wake up late and have to rush to get dressed for work only to spend an extra 10 minutes, that you certainly don’t have, searching for your keys. Grabbing your travel mug, full of freshly brewed coffee, you stumble out the door and into your car. Halfway through your drive, some asshole pulls out in front of you and when you slam on the breaks to avoid a collision, the hot beverage topples in the cup holder, sending the scalding liquid all over your legs. Surely it can’t get any worse? You walk into the office with minutes to spare, dabbing napkins over your pants as you make you way to your desk, when your boss is shoving a stack of paperwork into your arms and all but yelling at you to have it done before lunch. Sitting down with a sigh, you spend the next few hours to get everything finished, skipping a lunch break all together. By the time your work day is over, you want nothing more than fall into your boyfriend’s arms and let him hold you for the rest of eternity. Five minutes into your drive home and you get a call from your boss, scolding you for messing something up. You remain silent as he berates you and then hangs up the call. As you pull into your driveway, the stress finally gets the better of you and you erupt into a fountain of tears. You sit in the car for several minutes, trying to gather yourself before going inside, but it was no use. Jake would immediately know that you’d been crying. Stepping through the front door, he can instantly feel the tension radiating from you as he comes up to cup your face in his hands, “Is that rain, or are you crying again?” You collapse into him as he wraps you in his embrace, holding you tightly as he rocks you from side to side. He hums a melody as you slowly relax into him, letting the vibrations from his chest lull you into a place of serenity. When the tears finally stop, he whispers into your hair, “You wanna talk about it?” You shake your head, holding onto him as you mumble, ‘I just want you to hold me, Jake.’ He smiles, pressing a kiss to the top on your head as he continues to sway you, “Okay, sweet girl.”
