In Search of Yamoshi
Tumblr media
So I got this response to my liveblog of DBS Episode 37, where I floated the idea that the Saiyans of Universe 6 represent a scenario where the “good” Saiyans defeated the “evil” Saiyans in ancient times.  And because of that outcome, there were never any Super Saiyans in Universe 6, because their version of Yamoshi never became a martyr and never inspired the legends of Super Saiyan or Super Saiyan God.
My (fuzzy) understanding of this business was that Toriyama identified the original Super Saiyan God as a Saiyan named “Yamoshi”, and stated that Yamoshi also became the first Super Saiyan as well.  I thought there was something about how his spirit haunts the Saiyan race, causing other Saiyans to go Super Saiyan every thousand years.   My point was that none of this must have happened in Universe 6, since Cabba has never heard of Super Saiyans until he sees Goku and Vegeta use the form.
To this, @iamthenight2001 replied: “You’ve got the Yamoshi thing backward - he never went God himself, he just went Super Saiyan after his five comrades died, then his spirit is what triggers the God transformation when the ritual is used.”
Tumblr media
And at first glance, this seemed... wrong?  But there’s so many different interpretations of the Yamoshi concept that I wanted to do some fact-checking before I responded.  And there’s a lot of primary sources to look at, since there were three different versions of the Battle of Gods story, plus the interview where Toriyama described Yamoshi.  So it seemed like this would be a good reason to just put everything together in one post for easy comparison.  Let’s see if we can get to the bottom of this.
1. Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (2013)
Let’s start with the movie, which introduced the Super Saiyan God as a concept.  I feel like I’ve gone over the plot of this thing a dozen times, but the short version is that Beerus has a premonition of a worthy opponent called a “Super Saiyan God”, and he spends the whole movie trying to find one, or provoke Goku or Vegeta into becoming one.  Instead, Goku uses the Dragon Balls to ask Shenron for more information, and Shenron explains that the SSG is a transformation achieved through a ritual.
Tumblr media
In the movie, Shenron says:
"A Super Saiyan God is a savior, created by chance by a handful of righteous Saiyans, who long ago questioned the evil acts of their fellow Saiyans, and led a revolt against them.  This savior had immense power, and dispatched the evil Saiyans in no time at all, but shortly thereafter, they returned to normal, with their power apparently used up.
"Once again, Planet Vegeta became a world of evil Saiyans, and the savior was also eliminated from their legends.  This vanished legend goes... "'five Saiyans who possess righteous hearts join hands, and by instilling light into another righteous Saiyan, they will become a Saiyan god.'"
------------------------------------
2. Dragon Ball Super Episode 9 (2015)
Tumblr media
This is just a retelling of the movie scene, but in this version Shenron doesn’t go into nearly as much detail.  He only explains how to make a Super Saiyan God, without discussing the tale of the Saiyan who first used the ritual.
“The Namekian Book of Legends states the following: ‘When five Saiyans of righteous hearts join hands and pour their spirits into another righteous Saiyan, he shall become the God of Saiyans.’  In other words, a Super Saiyan God.”
-----------------------------------
3. Dragon Ball Super manga, chapter 4 (2015)
Tumblr media
Nothing much here, as this scene only gets one panel.  Shenron explains what a Super Saiyan God is and how to make one, but that’s it.
------------------------------------------------
4. Akira Toriyama Interview, Saikyō Jump, January 2018 issue (December 1, 2017)
In this interview, Toriyama answers various questions about the Saiyans.  You can read the whole thing by clicking the link above, but I want to focus on the parts about Super Saiyans and the Super Saiyan God.
Q: Can anyone become a Super Saiyan if they train?
A: It’s not like anyone can become a Super Saiyan through training and anger. In order to become a Super Saiyan, one’s body must contain something called “S-Cells”. Once these S-Cells reach a certain amount, a trigger such as anger will explosively increase the S-Cells and cause a change in the body; that’s Super Saiyan. Most Saiyans have some S-Cells, although not a great quantity. The reason why Goku and Vegeta’s children can become Super Saiyan relatively easily is probably because to a certain extent they inherited a lot of S-Cells, and also because Earth’s environment is gentler and easier to live in than Planet Vegeta.
Q: And how does one increase S-Cells to become Super Saiyan?
A: Having a gentle spirit is the best way to greatly increase one’s S-Cells, but most Saiyans have trouble with this, which I think is why no Super Saiyans appeared for such a long time that they became the stuff of legend. However, one can’t reach the quantity necessary for becoming a Super Saiyan simply by having a gentle spirit, so a certain amount of battle power is indeed necessary. Looked at in this light, it’s easy to see why becoming a Super Saiyan came easy for Goku.
Q: Was the “legendary Super Saiyan” Freeza feared the Super Saiyan God that appeared in Battle of Gods?
A: In a certain sense, they are the same person. That is to say, very long ago, before Planet Vegeta was the Saiyans’ planet, there was a man named Yamoshi who had a righteous heart despite being a Saiyan. He and his five comrades started a rebellion, but he was cornered by combatants and became a Super Saiyan for the first time, though his transformation and fearsome fighting style shocked the other Saiyans. Outnumbered, Yamoshi eventually wore himself out and was defeated, but this was only the beginning of his legend. Afterwards, Yamoshi’s spirit wandered in continuous search of six righteous-hearted Saiyans, seeking a new savior: Super Saiyan God.
--------------------------------------------------------
So the 2017 interview is probably what iamthenight2001 was referring to.   According to Toriyama’s response here, Yamoshi was a Super Saiyan (though not explicitly the first), who fought evil Saiyans but was defeated.  His spirit searches for six righteous Saiyans presumably because that would resemble his own team of six rebels.  I guess the implication is that when he finds six righteous Saiyans, he “blesses” them by allowing one of their number to become a Super Saiyan God.
But that doesn’t fit with what Shenron said in the movie.  Let’s go over that part again.
“A Super Saiyan God is a savior, created by chance by a handful of righteous Saiyans, who long ago questioned the evil acts of their fellow Saiyans, and led a revolt against them.  This savior had immense power, and dispatched the evil Saiyans in no time at all, but shortly thereafter, they returned to normal, with their power apparently used up.”
Shenron speaks of the Righteous Six as having created their own savior by chance.  The implication is that they invented the ritual, and turned their leader, Yamoshi, into a Super Saiyan God.  And Yamoshi made good use of the new power, but then reverted to normal, which is what happens to Goku in the movie.
I don’t object to Yamoshi being both a Super Saiyan and a Super Saiyan God.  It actually makes a lot of sense that he was a Super Saiyan first.  He must have needed more power than he could muster in that form, which lead him to discovering the ritual.   And it also explains the name.  If Yamoshi had already made a name for himself as a Super Saiyan, then what would they call his even stronger form?  “Super Saiyan God” fits the bill.
But I can’t buy into Yamoshi just being an ancient Super Saiyan who merely inspired the ritual.  The problem is that this doesn’t add up, because it means some other band of righteous Saiyans would have to discover the ritual and make a Super Saiyan God for the first time.  Which wouldn’t be a big deal, except that’s not what Shenron said in the movie.  He said a Super Saiyan God was a savior created by six righteous Saiyans who rebelled against evil.  And after their savior was defeated, the evil Saiyans flourished and suppressed the tale.  No one else would have come along later to invent the ritual.  And even if there had been a group like that, then Shenron would have said so, because he was explaining how the ritual originated.  He would have talked about that group, instead of the group who inspired them.
I don’t want to disrespect Toriyama or the people who translated the interview, but his answer just doesn’t gel with the dialogue in the film, which presumably was also supplied by Toriyama.  This would be like Herman Melville doing an interview where he says Moby Dick is a giant squid.  It’s not about whether he’s right or wrong, it’s about the fact that he wrote a whole book that states that Moby Dick is a whale. Past a point, not even the author can contradict the text.
Nonetheless, I’ll admit that this is all open to fan interpretation.  The way I see it, the guy doesn’t have to be named Yamoshi.  Until they actually put the character in a comic or animation, he’s just a name Toriyama made up on the spot.  But it’s handy to have something to call the guy.
And if you like the version in the interview better, I can’t fault you for that.  Maybe Shenron got the details mixed up.  It’s an ancient, forgotten story, and just because Shenron knows the story doesn’t mean the version he knows is completely accurate, or even literal.
I guess I just made up the part where I thought Yamoshi’s ghost communes with Legendary Super Saiyans.  That sounds like somethng I would have come up with, honestly, but I was pretty sure I read that in the interview.  Oh well.
And of course, the Dragon Ball Wiki has thoroughly convinced itself that Yamoshi is the Golden Ape Vegeta imagined in Dragon Ball Z Episode 66.  I wouldn’t object to this either, except it doesn’t make sense, because that would mean there was only one Super Saiyan before Goku, which means there’s no way for anyone to believe that a new one would arise every thousand years.  But the DB Wiki still lists Yamoshi’s first appearance in the anime as DBZ Episode 66.   Well, they can believe what they want to believe.

Fierce Deity Broly
A commission I ordered from ZaionZonzini. Imagine the canon Broly enhanced with god ki, and combined with the Fierce Deity’s power and knowledge, thanks to that mask. The broccoli would become mintachio (mint + pistachio ice cream). And yes, the pelt is converted into a more formal cape.

I've been seeing a bunch of "Humans are Space Orcs" and "Earth is Space Australia" but I raise you to this....
Humans are the galaxy's equivalent to the Saiyans
Allow me to explain.
- We live on a world that would be considered difficult for others to survive on (Planet Vegeta having 10x Earth's own gravity and Earth having storms, volcanoes, natural disasters, and more)
- We aren't as advanced as other species and would likely just learn from them and their technology (Saiyans are primative on their own and only have such advanced technology thanks to the Frieza Force/Cold Force and while we have advanced technology now, we would more likely than not just obtain more advanced tech from other races if not cannibalize old or worn down ones for our own benefits in advancement)
- We are typically perceived as barbarians who are just violent by nature, probably incredibly dangerous as well (Saiyans being a warrior race who believe strength is everything while humanity... Yeah just look at the Humans are Space Orcs posts, they kinda just speak for themselves with how f*cked up a species we are from an outsider's perspective)
- We are just "built different" than other races and even grow stronger from damage (Both Saiyans and Humans having their natural ability to recover from damage and while we aren't getting the benefits of a Zenkai boost, there is a reason "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" is a common saying.)
- We found a species different than us and specifically breed and designed them to suit our needs (Saiyans have the Saibamen which are specifically designed for combat and training purposes and humanity has created all the different species of dogs from wolves for special tasks)
- We have legends of our race being capable of superhuman feats (Saiyans have the legend of the legendary Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan God with Yamoshi while humans have legends from mythology such as Hercules and Achilles)
- When put to the test we can perform incredible feats and overcome anything thrown at us when we put our mind and heart to it and will never stop growing (Saiyans have broken their limits time after time and constantly seek to become stronger to overcome whatever threat they come across, while humans have adrenaline for immediate danger and have survived insane things over the course of history, helped by how technology is always evolving over time and we learn more and more about the world around us and beyond the stars)
Am I overthinking a race of superhuman alien monkey people and comparing them to humans? Maybe? Do I think this is beautiful and a testament to how powerful humanity is with their ability to survive on a planet that would be dangerous to other races? Yes, absolutely.

Gale's Analysis: Frieza: Evolution of Pure Evil
Tumblr media
To those who don’t know, Frieza is one of the most iconic villains in all of anime.
To give some brief background to the few that never heard of him.
Frieza is the Galactic tyrant, basically the emperor of Universe 7, and said to be the evilest villain in all of Dragonball canon.
Frieza is a cut above the rest in terms of villains. Mainly for 3 key reasons.
1. Frieza is naturally powerful, he was born with the power and in the Namek saga, has never trained a day in his life.
2. Frieza is established as successful. His frieza force are feared throughout the universe, even the galactic patrol doesn’t mess with him.
3. He is fully aware he is evil and LOVES EVERY second of it.
Most anime villains have some sort of backstory that made them evil, Frieza doesn’t. He was born powerful and believes EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE is beneath him.
In the show, people would be mortified at the thought of getting on his bad side. With the introduction of power levels in Dragonball, Frieza’s final form was so powerful, the system was basically thrown out immediately after his second transformation.
Frieza was established less of a character and more of a Force of Pure Evil.
At his introduction. Frieza was the antithesis of Goku.
Goku, born with a power level of 2, trained tirelessly and scraped by just to rise up and meet every challenge he faced.
Frieza, born with an ungodly amount of natural power that the only two beings his father told him to watch out for were Majin buu, a magical cosmic threat that killed the Kai’s (basically creator deities) and Beerus, the god of destruction.
Frieza knew he was hot s*** but he was also cautious, killing the saiyans after hearing about their legend of the Super saiyan, and super saiyan god. Resulting in him GENOCIDING most of them by blowing up their planet.
Frieza was never meant to be redeemable, he was the dark opposite of Goku. Which also made him an excellent foil and villain.
Frieza was so powerful, Goku needed to achieve a legend in order to fight him EVENLY!
Not surpass him, MATCH
Many Dragonball Z fans will forget that Frieza was still not at full power when fighting super saiyan Goku. It’s only when reaching 100% that the fight really begins.
But this is where the beauty of Frieza’s defeat comes in. Frieza never trained to utilize his power, so he never mastered his full power and as a result, his stamina drained quickly, allowing Goku to get ahead and frieza to resort to cheap tricks, which backfired. Frieza may have been gifted but his talent meant nothing as he didn’t work hard.
The decline and Fall of Frieza in this
Tumblr media
Frieza eventually finds himself cut in half by his own attack on a dying world, begging for energy from his opponent. Goku, despite EVERYTHING, gives it to him. And Frieza then does what you would expect, tries to kill him only to be blasted back and left for dead.
Funny enough Frieza does survive, gets turned into a cyborg and goes to earth to get revenge.
Only for another golden warrior to appear and
Tumblr media
And so ends the reign of Frieza, killed by the super saiyan legend he tried to prevent, sliced, diced and killed by a warrior he never knew of. And used as a stepping stone to show how powerful the NEW villains will be.
And overtime, frieza was only mentioned as a measuring stick, maybe some filler episodes or movies. But for DBZ. That was it.
“But Gale,” I hear you call. “How does this relate to your title “Evolution of Pure Evil”?”
Well my astute and very attractive Reader.
That’s where the sequel series Dragon Ball Super comes in.
During this new series, Frieza’s empire is in shambles with him gone, so Sorbet (the current head of the empire) decides to revive him. To establish order.
And sure enough, thanks to the dragon balls, Frieza is revived
Tumblr media
In which he then kills a few guards and realizes he is rusty for being dead for so long.
Frieza is caught up with the situation and found out Goku killed Majin Buu and fought Beerus.
This is where Frieza makes a shocking declaration. He will train for 4 months and fight him.
Now this sounds ridiculous at first glance. Especially to those familar with the series. We know how powerful Goku is now. Frieza was basically as strong as Goten or Trunks (who were kids). Goku would one hit KO him. How could he close the gap in four months?
And this is where we remember, Frieza STARTED out with his current power. He never trained to attain it. He was always this freakishly powerful. Gohan, Goku, Vegeta, everyone had to train and fight impossible odds to reach his power. So now, Frieza was going to train with his potential.
And 4 months pass, Frieza shows up, and his power is massive.
Even Gohan, who despite not training was still the strongest on earth, nearly died facing Frieza in his restricted first form. (He killed piccolo who sacrificed himself to save him)
And when Goku and Vegeta arrived. Goku fought him evenly, until Frieza revealed his Evolution
Tumblr media
A form he attained through training, choosing the color as a means of Mocking the super saiyan transformation that killed him in the past, and a way of showing everyone he was back on top.
And sure enough he was stronger than Goku, but there was a flaw, Frieza failed to realize he didn’t master the form, his stamina drained too quickly, something that Vegeta and Goku picked up on.
And the result was Frieza’s death once again.
Frieza learned the benefits of training, but he didn’t learn from his failures, something that Goku always did.
Though this isn’t the last time we see Frieza, he is called back. For Goku recruited him for the tournament of power. Where we learn Frieza learned Mental training in hell and learned to master control of his golden form
Tumblr media
Frieza had learned another means of improvement, now being on par with Goku once again.
And in the tournament, Frieza faced many foes, defeating his universe 6 counterpart, and fighting with Goku to defeat the monsterous Jiren.
Frieza learned that the multiverse was more than he even knew.
In The movie, Dragonball Super: Broly. Frieza is looking for recruits as he realizes that no matter how strong he gets, Goku and Vegeta together can beat him. He needs an ally. Which is where we meet Broly.
And it should be noted that Frieza fought Broly for nearly an hour before Gogeta (fusion of Goku and Vegeta) appeared and put an end to broly’s rampage.
It was here that Frieza learned that there was more he needed to tip the balance back in his favor, if they have a way to fuse and become more powerful.
Now we arrive at the current time. In the manga, Frieza has returned. And he casually killed the villains of the saga with minimal effort, One of which had wished to be the STRONGEST in the universe.
And despite the best efforts of Vegeta and Goku (both of which had new forms/ techniques) couldn’t seem to put down. But Frieza did it with one hit.
Frieza tells the group he found a place where time flows differently (that’s right, he found a room of spirit and time) and stated he trained in that room for the equivalent of 10 YEARS.
Now if you do the math, Frieza after 4 months was able to catch up to Goku and Vegeta who were training with Whis. Imagine what 10 full years did to him?
And then, Frieza revealed his newest transformation
Tumblr media
Black Frieza.
And after he transforms he does this
Tumblr media
One shots BOTH his enemies.
Frieza was back.
And he learned from his mistakes. Frieza had become like Goku in a way. Training and achieving new power. A prodigy that learned to enjoy fighting.
Frieza had learned to evolve because of Goku, Goku had showed Frieza how working hard and pushing limits allowed him to achieve great power. Frieza was changed by Goku. But unlike Vegeta and piccolo.
This change was for the worse. Frieza fell hard and kept failing only to come back and show everyone why HE is the emperor of the universe, becoming arguably the most powerful villain in all of Dragonball once again.
Pure Evil is back on top. No complex motivations, no desires of changing the world. Just a very evil man with a ton of power and LEARNED from its mistakes.
In another anime, one punch man, there is a villain that wanted to be Absolute Evil.
Frieza, is that pure Absolute evil, and loving every second of it

Idk how but every once and a while I STILL see people wondering why the Super Saiyan transformations in DBS Broly show Goku and Vegeta go momentarily green prior to their normal gold SSJ coloration.
Like its not even symbolism you can miss, its quite literally just a visual way of showing the connection between Broly as the Super Saiyan of Legend, and the other Super Saiyans. It's just showing, yes Broly is the prodigy, the living Legendary Super Saiyan, but also that all Saiyans can attain that status becoming a legend, all of them have the same glowing green eyes and power.
Saiyan's power comes from connection and emotion, the God form being the most upfront about it, being able to grant divine power to a collection of saiyans all working together, but the underglow of green light of all Super Saiyans, in their aura and their eyes show that they're all connected together through their emotions, all linked to a legendary warrior.
So whoops, sorry, it was symbolism, i brought symbolism into your shonen, HAHAHA I GOT YOU! PRANKED WITH ENGLISH CLASS!

Pretty cool answers got some more if that’s ok?
1: what is something the duo believes in? Like Bigfoot, mothman, etc…
2: what’s their opinion on cops in general?
3: you mention in a earlier post that Chris accidentally brushed his teeth with Jake’s toothbrush, was there any other gross moments the duo received?
4: you might’ve answer this before I think but what’s something that makes the duo really angry like super-saiyan angry?
5: what bets does the duo regular make? Like sees who’s faster for example?
6: what does the duo like to do with those respective girlfriends? Like hand holding, kisses on the cheek, etc
1) Well given that well….its the DCU where Greek pantheon gods, biblical demons, descendents of the Norse pantheon (New Genesis and Apokolips) and many others are all legit characters, it’s likely those cryptids indeed do exist anyways. Mainly the Duo though would give some attention in saying the Loch Ness Monster and the Congo’s Mokele Mbembe are real. Unlike in our reality, they have some actual evidence
2) Whilr they certainly have very good allies in Dan Turpin, Maggie Sawyer and especially Amy Rohrbach (in addition it of course Jim Gordon, Renee Montoya and even Harvey Bullock), Chris and Jake are overall more cautious around police officers in general and prefer not to overly rely on them as they both are aware of the systemic issues and structural problems many police departments have, the ones that we in the real world would acknowledge. This is especially true for Bludhaven as their police department is stated in being more corrupt than even Gotham’s.
3) Well, there only two incidents they are willing to talk about including the time Jake was dared by one of his classmates to not shower for a few days, hoping to break a record from an urban legend at their school. While he was able to beat said record by one messily minute, by the end of it he’d smelled and I quote from Chris “like if a foot and Brussels sprouts had a baby….who went Number 2 on their diaper.” Once Jake finally beat said record, Mar’i and Chris immediately gathered up some clean clothes, dragged Jake immediately straight to the bathroom and shut the door behind them so he can finally shower.
The other time would be when Chris and Jake love did some volunteer work at the local zoo, especially when it came time for cleaning some of the animal enclosures. Most difficult of all being the chimpanzees given their usual methods of warding off intruders. One of their ‘items’ they threw literally hit a fan (thankfully an air conditioner fan not a person) from across their habitat.
4) Easily hurting their loved ones and best friends like each others real badly and especially right in front of their eyes while gloating/laughing about it. During the brutal duel and beat down against Victor Zsasz on Jake, had he not been restrained by a power dampening anklet with traces of kryptonite in it, Chris for sure would’ve gone absolutely ballistic on the deranged criminal and rightfully so.
Also hurting innocents just to spite them or being careless is another way to get the two real ticked off. Even Chris and Jake have shown amazement on their ability to hold back during the few times Mongul nearly annihilated large swathes of Bludhaven and Metropolis, merely pounding him down rather than outright incinerating him.
5) Along with who can fly and/or run the fastest, they also made bets on Who can Eat Raw Onions without Crying (Chris won that one), Who’s the better poem writer (Jake), Who Can Curl Their Tongue (Jake again), Who can Annoy Hawkman first (Chris) and Who Can handle Spicy Hot Wings (like we’re taking spices including Habenero and Ghost Chili Peppers) with their Powers Shut Off and Without Milk (a Tie since they both made it two Twenty Wings before rushing for the Gallons)
6) Hand Holding, Quick Cheek Kisses, Sitting Close to each other when taking a seat, Paying for Lunches (Chris and Thara often make reservations at a local Big Belly Burger in Metropolis while conversely Jake and Meredith are regulars at a Bomp N Stomp in Bludhaven), Going to the Movies together (Especially Kaiju movies for Meredith of course), and helping each other out with their homework at their nearby libraries; all these are common place for the Duo regarding Thara and Meredith respectively
Thanks for the asks and your compliments @pin-crusher2000 . It’s very appreciated :-D

In all honesty, while I do miss Super Saiyan "first times" being emotional beats, a lot of fans forget Goten did it by accident and Trunks did it because he felt like it. Like what, was Goten that angry at Chi Chi during their sparing match? Was Trunks' jealousy of Goten going super saiyan equal to Vegeta's self-loathing during the time skip before the Androids Saga? At least with Caulifla there's an in-universe explanation that honestly makes sense for her character. She's not the type to explode with rage and Cabba's not the type to antagonize her. Rather, she's adept enough at fighting to recognize that all she has to do is emulate the feeling of the transformation to attain it and skilled enough to do it by force. She basically skips the awakening part to get right to the "do it at will" stage which is perfect buildup for her as a rival of sorts for Goku.
I think what really bothered the Caulifla haters (besides their misogyny) was that she said the quiet part out loud.
The dirty little secret about the Super Saiyan form was that it was never this ancient and mystic power of destiny, but a quirk of Saiyan biology that almost anyone could replicate if they knew what steps to follow. The reason Vegeta, Trunks, and Gohan all pulled it off in such a short span of time was that they had a living Super Saiyan as a reference, and they had the motivation to work at it.
By the time Cabba showed up, it was considered a big twist that he couldn't turn Super Saiyan. That's how cliche the form had become. So when Cabba learns it very quickly, it's mostly because we need him to get "caught up" in a hurry. And Caulifla and Kale were even stronger than he was before he learned the form, so it only makes sense that they would get the hang of it quickly as well.
But their transformations weren't treated like this big dramatic moment that turns the tide of the story. That's because Super Saiyan was no longer a major milestone, but also because we'd already seen it done several times by several other characters. The gimmick with Caulifla and Kale was that they were prodigies, diamonds in the rough who were suddenly tapping into their hidden potential. Could they improve enough, quickly enough, to become a threat in the tournament?
The thing fans have to accept is that Super Saiyan isn't the be-all and end-all of this franchise. That's why we have Super Saiyan 2, 3, 4, God, and Blue, along with Ultra Intinct, Beast, and all of the other advanced forms that have cropped up along the way. And the bad guys have always been able to keep pace, so calling each new level "unearned" is pointless.
We could say that Caulifla deconstructed the whole concept, except Vegeta already did it when he first transformed in 1991.
Tumblr media
One page. One page is all it takes to undermine whatever legend or superstition is still attached to the Super Saiyan form. This is the third character we've seen use the form, but Krillin still hung onto the idea that a Super Saiyan had to at least be a good guy. But Vegeta informs him that he simply trained and trained until he hit a wall and his frustration pushed his body over the threshold. But Vegeta still clings to the idea of a "Saiyan Messiah", even though he just demonstrated that there's nothing special about this. You don't need to be a mythical hero, or a man of destiny, or even a nice person. You just need talent and effort, and maybe some luck.
The U6 Saiyans just did a speedrun of Vegeta's process, and that may irritate fans, except that the U6 Saiyans were far, far more powerful than Vegeta was in the Androids Saga. Cabba and Vegeta fought evenly in their base forms, and that was the same "Saiyan Beyond God" level seen in Resurrection F. They were already capable of the transformation; they just needed someone to tell them it was a thing.
