Log date 1.14.24
Haven’t been on here in YEARRRRRS. Was feeling nostalgic. Wish my past posts had dates on them to properly gauge when they were made. So I guess I’ll add my own dates to them now in case years down the line I feel nostalgic again.
Anyways, no longer 22, but in fact 27. Will I edit my blog’s about? Probably not, for the sake of preservation of what my blog was like back in the good ol days on this relic of a site.
I now work as a reptile specialist, technically Herpetological and invertebrate specialist. I take care of a room full of reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, centipedes and millipedes at a wholesale pet company. There’s been drama going on lately at my work and hoping it dies down. My boss and manager (manager that I’ve trained by the way, long story short he was hired without my boss’s knowledge as a “yes man” by the higher ups.) there hasn’t been clear communication between me and my boss or manager and it’s making me feel anxious.
DNR was called on our department and I feel like my boss suspects it was me even though I have no business doing so. I don’t need to create extra work for myself when I already have a lot on my plate with the last minute shipments he’s been ordering. The last thing I need is a surprise visit from DNR or Humane society. He hasn’t out right accused me but the way he’s been acting makes me feel like he’s assuming it was me. The only thing I was clear about was calling OSHA if the higher ups didn’t get proper ventilation for our garage because the mechanic and the head of delivery are too dumb to not open up the garage door when doing maintenance on the truck. They filled the warehouse with exhaust fumes.
I’ve contributed SO much to our department and have been the leading change to improving the setups and care for the animals. I’ve worked too hard for this.
Other than that, for a little bit I was also working as an art instructor at a local art camp. One of my professors from MCC runs it. I haven’t taught there in a while bc I haven’t gotten any sign ups. I used to assist with classes too but they’ve struggled financially so they can’t afford to pay assistants anymore. I miss working there but can’t afford to work for free.
But yeahhh that’s where I am now. I don’t think anyone reads these anyways this is more so for my own enjoyment. In the void. On a site that not many people use anymore.

Ahaha I don’t know if graphic design is really my thing, I like doing illustrations a lot more so I might go for a BA in that so I can go into concept art. Buuuut I’ve got a lot of shit on my plate at the moment. I make shit money at my receptionist job so I gotta find something that pays more.

My college graduation ceremony! I earned my associates in graphic design 🎉
Believe it or not, the mini prints of my work is only a fraction of what I have made during my time spent at my community college. I take pride in how I chose to attend MCC instead of diving right into a four year college, not just because I’m not neck deep in college debt, but what I value most from my career at MCC are the connections and memories that I have made there.
Every drive I made to my classes was like going to my fourth home (my other homes being my mom’s, dad’s and grandparents’). After taking many courses in the DGM and Art departments over the course of several years, you tend to see a lot of familiar faces. Among all those people that I had the pleasure of collaborating, giving and receiving critiques with, I never would have thought that I would meet my best friend Allison.
We’ve had one or few classes with each other in the past but didn’t talk too much with each other, until we were in a mixed class of Graphic Design one and two, which also happened to be taught by my role model. I’ve been in many friend groups throughout my life so far, maybe even had a close friends here and there but I don’t think I’ve ever had a “best friend”. And I was starting to think that I never would. But a new door was opened when I was able to get to know Allison. She’s a photoshop wizard, a fellow skull enthusiast, highly skilled designer, eyeliner expert, dedicated Disney fan, Dunkin’ Doughnut vanilla latte connoisseur, animal lover (who is now the mother of my leopard gecko Pablo). More importantly she has always been my rock, she’s practically my sister. Allison is someone I can come to for a second opinion, whether it be life stuff or art stuff, a shoulder to cry on, someone to make adventures with, she’s especially good at keeping me in check when I get oddball ideas and lending a hand on my hijinks. Which is often. Allison is more than what I deserve in a best friend and I am very grateful that I crossed paths with her in my lifetime.
As for my role model Justin Schmitz, Justin has this incredible creative drive that pushes him to put so much extensive labor into his projects until he gets his visions to manifest, he's funny, witty and isn't afraid to befuddle his students with obscure references from his generation or the unfamiliar corners of the art world that went over my head at times. My kind of juice and jam. Not only is he a great photography/graphic design professor, but he is able to keep his own creative endeavors on the side alive and well. He's able to make a stable living as a professor while going in any direction he wants with his own photography series and the occasional commissions he gets. He has inspired me to push myself by any means of reaching my full potential as an artist and person. His extensive knowledge of technological and artistic disciplines would always blow me away. Of course he’s well rounded in those regards, he has years of experience, a masters degree under his belt. But how he projects himself in his loud and unique nature is what makes me want to be able to take on the world like he does. What I appreciated about taking a class with him is that he was always invested in what fellow students were creating, gave us his thoughts on how to better our work, and then would take a step back to allow us to explore a combination of ideas. But what I appreciated most about him as a professor and a creative, he would always support me and my ideas whenever I hit a roadblock, I will always remember his compassion.
The Professors of the DGM and Art department have provided me with the skills of not only pushing myself as a creator, how to be self motivated, how to conceptualize an idea and articulate my reasoning behind the idea, I must push myself outside my comfort zone in order to add more skills to my tool belt, to have fun with what I'm making and how to legally protect my ideas.
Moving forward I plan to find some internships in the graphic design field to gain some experience as I look into options for a four year school to earn my Bachelors in graphic design OR take a different route. One thing is for certain, I will continue to create and pride myself as an artist, a graphic designer, a wildlife enthusiast, a cartoon junkie, bone collector an independent woman.

Oh, retail
I had the weirdest experience when I helped cashier today..
So there was this couple who came to my lane, I asked them if they found everything alright and the husband replied with “Yeah it was really nice, we kept ourselves busy with shopping. We oughta come here more often when it’s not busy, because we have nothing to do.”
So I jokingly say, “or you could work here.”
The man says “Nah we’d probably have freaky sex here and get arrested.”
I just smiled awkwardly and continued to bag their groceries. At first I thought I misheard him, but then the wife confirmed how lewd he was when she said “Oh my god, that’s so inappropriate.”
The wife added, “This poor girl is probably mortified.”
To which I say “I’m not really phased by this.”
“We’re lucky to have you up here then, or else we would probably be kicked out” said the husband
“Yeah, you’re lucky I’m not one of those people” I replied
When I go back to school, I’m gonna have to tell this story upon doing those typical introductions when talking about our summer.

Forgot to make a post for this, but a card game that I made the art for has reached production this year and is selling at my college! To give some background, the president of Game Club wanted to do something more than just playing games so he had the idea for use to come together and work on developing something that could be put in our portfolios. After working on the game play we came up with the theme and I, being the lead concept artist, whipped up some sketches for our game and did the final version of the Beardie face card while my fellow game developers traced the rest of my sketches. (I didn’t make the panda though) EDIT—- I meant to post this on my art blog, @hummingcrab-creates but for now I’ll leave the sketches here. I’ll post the final art on my art blog.

Ashi
I can’t believe how long it took me to realize this but if Jack successfully makes it back to the past and triumphs over Aku, then Ashi will not exist. The cult that created her was solely devoted to destroying Jack under the rule of Aku, to please Aku, to HONOR Aku… Without this grim purpose, Ashi’s mother would not have been forced to conceive Ashi.
