What’s your favorite sentence and/or paragraph you’ve written recently?
The water was off again. Boiler went out at the house, and sure it was fucking summer and he could just as easy work up enough of a sweat to make a cold shower bearable, but he didn't want to, and that old bat down the street who used to take pity on him and his mum had stopped taking pity around the time Jamie grew tall enough to almost look her in the eye, and as his mum had rushed out the door she'd told him 'just see if you can go shower at your dad's, yeah?'

also, what's your favourite line you wrote recently in each of your primary wips?
Post season
Roy didn’t go into the office on Monday because he didn’t want to and they couldn’t make him. They’d placed second in the league, damnit; he’d earned a lie-in.
Pavlov's Dog (the 5+1 sleepy jamie pavlovian fic which now has a working title)
It was like balancing an egg on a spoon. He kept dropping the egg, begging for a new one, only to drop that one too. This had been his longest run yet. He wondered how many eggs they’d give him before they all ran out.

hey i hope you’re doing okay and i’m so so excited for your fics!!! if you’re still open to random asks and/or carrots, i’m curious about your editing process - e.g. what does /43 mean?
and if there is a snippet you feel comfortable sharing from the jamie 5 + 1 pavlovian fic, i would love to read it as i just already adore everything about it (but pls no pressure!)
have a great day :)
Hullo. I am always up for asks and carrots.
My editing process at the moment is a thing born of necessity and self-consciousness (on account of me being more than a bit out of practice). So there are two prongs of edits I'm working with right now:
Print it and read it. This is where I physically print the thing and make notes. I'm quite visual and like to be able to see 2-3 pages at a time. This gives me a better sense of pacing, and lets me take notes as if I were writing a report. Plus it helps to see things in a different layout to catch typos. Plus I can scribble in the margins without committing to putting a thought somewhere.
Listen to it. I make the robot voice read it to me. This has the benefit of it being a stupid robot that won't autocorrect a typo, so it's especially good for catching typos. Also a neat thing I've discovered - if your sentences are repetitive it will sound more like a robot. The more fluid the pacing, the less the robot sounds like a robot.
The /43 was page numbers. So I was on page #/43. That is Chapter 1 of the Post-season fic. Right now it is on 43/43, but with the caveat of there's a few bits that I'm still not happy with so I'm waiting a few days to see if I like them again.
Thank you for your lovely question! Here's a snippet:
An hour after dropping his boots into the fire and his hands were still shaking, shoved into his pockets like a dirty secret. It was maddening. All he'd done was mention his dad. It wasn't like he was actually scared his old man would jump out of the shadows. In the middle of the pitch. In Richmond. He'd never know that Jamie'd said anything about him. His hands just didn't believe him.

A snippet from the 5+1 sleepy fic:
One of the reporters started to ask a question, and for a second time hung still and Jamie lived in a splendid moment where anything, fucking anything, could be the reason Roy-fucking-Kent was holding a press conference:
I've gotten really into crypto.
I'm going back to Chelsea.
I'm using my piles and piles of money to build myself a robot body so I can be the same player I once was.
"I'm announcing my retirement," Roy Kent growled into his army of microphones.

"He is drooling on me." "Let it go, Jan." "No." "Boyo's clearly knackered. Pretty sure Roy kept them out all night." "Yes, I can confirm that he did. He smells like dirty gym socks rolled in dirt."

I wrote about 2500 words tonight, half for the post-season thing and half for the sleepy jamie Pavlov thing
Only problem is I hate everything I wrote today.
But at least I wrote something and there will be a better tomorrow where I can look at it with fresh eyes and go, ‘Oh, there’s the problem. Now let’s take a crack at it.’

Do you want more words? More words to use or save:
Team, save, Liverpool (or any other city) and/or tackle
I was very good about sticking to sentences and now I'm not. All of these are from the 5+1 sleepy Jamie pavlovian fic (yes, it still breathes)
Team
Jamie Tartt was an expert in surviving humiliation. After all, it's not the first time his dad's embarrassed him in front of his friends. It's not even the first time his dad's embarrassed him in front of his team. It's definitely not the first time his dad's embarrassed him in front of his coaches. Not even the first time he'd embarrassed him in front of Lasso. It was just the first time Jamie embarrassed himself by having a fucking cry about it in the middle of the locker room.
Save
[redacted]
Liverpool or another city Manchester
Richmond ruined him for Manchester.
tackle
Jamie's hair trickled wet onto his neck as he bent to pick up the towel he'd left on the floor. His ears felt like they were ringing, when his dad marched him back to the bathroom by the arm with a grip hard -- harder than that time he hit a rock on his bike and his arm landed on the upturned handle, harder than the time old bat's nephew through a fit at Jamie for nutmegging him and tackled him like they was playing rugby, knocking the air out of him as he stared up at the sky. Hard, like something he didn't know yet.

🌹🌹 politely asking for a glimpse of the 5+1 sleepy pavlovian fic pls
He made quick work of tying his trainers, and if while he was bent over he pressed his eyes into his knees, blotting tears against the fabric, well it was probably fucking obvious that that's what he was doing but no one was going to say shit, were they? Was fucking damage control now. They'd already seen him bawl like a fucking baby, the least Jamie could do was make sure they didn't have to keep seeing it.

how did you come up with the idea for ur current wip?
The [title soon to not be redacted anymore] post season-three fic sprung out of a well in the ground to shame mankind after Mom City aired. I had a lot of thoughts stirring in my head. How I did not like the Forgive Freddy Kreuger scene*, how the rehab scene in a bubble could have been an interesting development but bookending it on either side with the forgiveness conversation and Jamie reaching out to his dad left a bad, worrying taste in my mouth. How out of left field it felt from a narrative perspective.
And I thought very much 'well next episode maybe he'll talk to someone about it and we'll get some glimpse into hey wtf man, don't you know that's a dangerous idea? Given what little we've seen of your situation, that is definitely maybe not a safe decision to be making when you are already self-admittedly at a low point'
At that point the entire fic was basically one scene: a conversation between Jamie and Roy. I wrote it down to make myself feel better and then I went and did other things.
The scene was in Roy's pov.
And then the next week they DOUBLED DOWN on it, still with no set up, and I made angry tea kettle noises and blacked out for a bit, and when I came to I had conjured this entire scenario that is the backbone plot of the fic: Jamie leading up to seeing his dad in rehab, and not telling anybody about it until after.
Of course it then grew into a hydra. As I broke the story into chunks I realized that oh, it's not just that scene that's in Roy's pov. The whole story is in Roy's pov. And while Roy's main concern is Jamie, now that he's looking for problems he's finding them in everyone: Sam, Colin, Keeley, Nate--even Beard's got shit going on. Now Roy just decided to go to therapy to work on his own problems. He didn't ask for all of this.
Then he finds out he's being made the new manager.
And then everything really is his problem, isn't it?
The 5+1 Sleepy Jamie Pavlovian fic was much more simple. I read a bunch of fic where at some point Jamie is falling asleep, happens to see Roy, and goes 'oh its like sleeping under the poster, how safe.' And I went 'that's the good shit. I could write some fic about that.' So I am <3
*both as a Ted Lasso fan and a Freddy Kreuger fan, but I digress.

Oh my word.
Hello friend! I can honestly say this is the biggest bouquet that's ever shown up in my inbox. Thank you so much!
Most of the snippets I've posted for this fic I believe I have tagged correctly, if you'd like to read more here.
To answer your question, the fic is basically 5+1 times that Jamie was sleepy and traumatized and fell asleep around Roy Kent without meaning too, because he's been falling asleep around Roy Kent for most of his life. Each chapter takes place at a different point through the series, so they also serve as little episode codas as Jamie changes through the seasons.
And because Jamie keeps falling asleep, there are also flashbacks. You know, because of the aforementioned trauma. There's some sort of abuse content warning across the board on like, all of these.
In fact here's a snippet from one of them now:
"Dad?" he called through the door, knocking gently to show he was being polite. The word tasted foreign on his lips. He'd been told straight from the man himself, 'No need to be so formal, 'ey lad? Don't know what that mother of yours told you, but we'll be seeing a lot more of each other from now on.' "Dad?" he asked again--barely a noise, more a statement to himself than anything. He tested the handle once more; it jiggled but a pressure pushed back. Something heavy held it closed from the other side. He couldn't get out.

I am continually AMAZED by the nuöber of writing projects you're juggling. Doyou have a plan for finishing and posting each chapter/fic - like, I'll finish that, then focus on this before jumping back to (with healthy bits of 'ooooh new shiny idea HELLO' thrown in, I imagine - or is it more of a following yoir muse each day and we'll just see what ends up being ready to post first?
I do try to have a plan, yes! My short-term writing plan is that winter is hard. Winter is hard, and writing in winter is hard, and having so many damn social obligations during winter makes it extra hard.
This plus the past three months has seen some major life stuff roll through - both personal and work-related - that seem to have sucked the life out of me.
That said I think I'm about over the worst of it? I can feel my brain muscles starting to work again, and I've had the time to start jotting notes down at work.
So my current plan is:
1- Finish Ch 2 of OGYGGIYHNBGL (it's been months i'm so sorry). This is top priority. This is the one in the front
2- Finish one of the following (mostly by following muse but if muse had a limited menu to work with)
Gift fic 1
Gift fic 2
Ch 1 of the 5+1 sleepy jamie pavlovian fic
Ch 3 of the The Vacant House Behind Our Home
That being said in the past two days I've written about 2000 words of Jamie Murders Zava and its very very fun. But that's work writing on my phone so it basically doesn't count
