**
Chen plopped down on the couch, loosening his tie and throwing off his jacket almost as soon as you were through the door of the penthouse.
“I hate wearing this,” he complained.
Snorting, your mood was slowly lifting now that you were back in a place you deemed safe. “You think you have it bad?” You motioned to the dress you were still stuck in and the shoes that you had kicked off the moment you walked through the door. “I’m getting out of this right now.”
Chen raised an eyebrow cheekily. “Right here in the living room?”
Throwing a shoe at him playfully, you warned, “You’d better watch what you say. Junmyeon might shoot you.”
The grin slipped from his face. Clearing his throat, Chen scratched the back of his neck. “You’d better go get changed. If you want, we can watch a movie until the others get back.”
In all honesty, you’d watched more movies than you ever thought you would care to since being here, but you didn’t have the energy to do anything else nor did you really want to shut yourself in your room. You were too wired up to try and sleep. A small part of you wanted to stay up for Junmyeon, to see if he’d had another run in with Junko.
Once you were in a much more comfortable oversized T-shirt and sleep shorts, as well as washed your face and brushed your teeth, you went back into the living room. Grabbing the blanket that was thrown on the recliner, you sat down next to Chen. You’d grown so used to platonic affection with the boys that you were confused when Chen scooted over, creating a large space in between you rather than letting you rest into his side like normal.
You pouted a little, thinking that now would be the time for any of the boys to give you a little bit of comfort after the night you’d had. Perhaps you’d just grown too used to them doting on you and now they were getting bored or uncomfortable with it.
Not caring about the selection, Chen put on some melodrama involving a fighter and a blind woman. You didn’t pay too much attention to the couple’s plight. Instead, you tried to figure out why Junmyeon made you go tonight. Why did he say that he needed you there? He didn’t keep you by his side - in fact he dropped you off like a child at daycare as soon as you arrived. Your only guess was he knew that Junko would be there, but hadn’t meant for things to escalate like that.
You made it through the first movie just to see that Chen had fallen asleep. His face was innocent in his sleep, like most people, and you kind of preferred it to his usual flirty demeanor.
Getting warm, you kicked off the blanket and placed it over Chen, careful not to wake him. It was well past midnight now and still no one had come back from the event. Chen had said they usually stay out well into the night, but you decided you would wait up for them, just to make sure that nothing bad happened.
**
Junmyeon could hardly concentrate on what the man across the table from him was rambling on about. They were supposed to be brokering a deal on a weapons shipment, but Sehun was having to do most of the talking. The man would have gotten away with an extra million won if Sehun hadn’t stepped in.
Junko’s threat plagued his mind. Would he really go that far for a conversation that had taken place twenty years ago?
Junmyeon would do everything in his power not to let anything happen your adoptive family, but Junko had resources that Junmyeon could only dream of. It wasn’t going to be easy to keep his promise.
If he was forced to be honest, Junko wasn’t the only thing that was making Junmyeon down the whiskey sours.
Something had stirred inside him when you had clung to his sleeve, begging not to be left alone. He’d never encountered someone who grew anxious because of large groups of people and he was at a complete loss of how to handle it.
At first, he thought you were just scared of the occupants since they were all here for illegal dealings. But then you explained how it was just the sheer amount of people in the room. It was slightly understandable considering there were over a hundred gamblers milling about.
The look in your eyes as you pleaded to not be abandoned had moved him. Or maybe it was more like a shove to comfort you. This morning had shown him a glimpse of what your lives together could be like and he’d actually enjoyed it. Earlier - before you ran to Yixing without hesitation - you’d felt so warm in his arms. He didn’t want to let you go. But he had business to attend to and he couldn’t drop it just for anyone, even you.
He kept the two of you in his line of sight, though. The way you were relaxed with Yixing as you danced slowly to the music had caused Junmyeon’s blood to boil. The doctor was just a natural comforter; he probably didn’t even realize how affectionate it looked from afar.
But if Junmyeon had noticed it, then so could have Junko. It was something he could exploit, to hold over you if needed. At least, that was the reason Junmyeon kept repeating to himself.
Behind their buyer, Junmyeon could see Jongin at the high stakes table and they made eye contact. The master card player scratched behind his left ear, signaling to Junmyeon that he was up ahead their previously discussed amount. Junmyeon nodded, telling Jongin to walk away with the winnings.
One by one, the others wrapped up their jobs for the night and met back up near the entrance. It was past three in the morning and they were all ready for a little shut eye. Outside, Chanyeol checked to make sure the coast was clear before they walked back to the cars. They piled in like normal, but Junmyeon stopped Yixing before he could take his spot.
All the doors were closed to make the appearance of a private conversation, but he knew all them would be listening to every word and hopefully the message would get across to them all.
“What is it, Junmyeon?” Yixing asked, perplexed.
“What is the rule when it comes to (y/n)?” Junmyeon made sure that every word resonated with his authority as the leader.
Yixing frowned. “Nothing is going on with me and (y/n). I swear.”
“Good.” Junmyeon tried to not look as relieved as he felt. Yixing wasn’t one to lie and he always followed the rules. “But from now on, I don’t want you to be so affectionate with her. People will begin to talk and I don’t need anyone doubting her ties to me.” He opened the door for Yixing to get inside. “All of you get home and get some rest. I’ll see you on Monday.”
Minseok stopped him from closing the door. “Junmyeon, where are you going?”
“Just on a walk,” he replied. “I’ll grab a cab home.”
“At least have Chanyeol or me go with you.”
Junmyeon shook his head. “I’ll be alright. Get going.”
He needed time alone, time to get his head back on straight before he saw you again.
Slamming the door closed, Junmyeon walked off in the opposite direction. The engines just idled for a minute or two behind him before they finally drove off. After running his hand through his hair for about the fifth time tonight, Junmyeon took in a deep breath of mild night air, sighing.
He’d told you from the beginning that your marriage was to be purely a maneuvering choice. The files were the most important piece of his plan, everything else was just a secondary consequence.
The other side of getting married was that it proved his stability, showed everyone that he had roots and a reason to stay. A wife could also be a weakness, but Junmyeon had decided that certain measures had to be taken to assure that that would never be the case. One of those was to keep you at arms distance, to not show affectionate attachment towards you.
With a surge of rage, he kicked the brick wall of an abandoned warehouse.
Just a few weeks in, he was already losing it. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t get a sense of you. Normally, Junmyeon could read a person like an open book. But you... you were all over the place and he couldn’t get a grip on your thought process. At times, you could be sweet and quiet, but then you would lash out or throw some sarcastic remark his way. Perhaps it was that unpredictability that was drawing him in.
Most of the girls he’d seen in the past knew all about his line of work and the money in his pocket. They were straightforward and honest about being in it for the thrill of it or to hopefully get a hold of one of his credit cards. He knew their game and he wasn’t bothered about it. At least he wasn’t alone and they never lasted longer than a week or so, anyway.
But you didn’t care that he lived in a penthouse or had fancy cars or expensive suits. You were only there out of loyalty to your family and Junmyeon admired that. Part of him hoped that maybe there could be a small change in your reason for staying. Maybe… you could start to feel something for him?
“Now this wasn’t smart.”
Out of the shadow of an alleyway, Junko stepped out, smiling evilly at Junmyeon.
This was always a possibility when he decided to wander off on his own, Junmyeon knew it. Part of him was even hoping that it would happen. He couldn’t resist a chance to trade barbs with Junko.
Putting his hands in his pockets, Junmyeon leaned up against the grime covered wall, not caring that it could ruin his tailored suit. “Can I help you with something, Junko?”
Taking a toothpick from his mouth, Junko twirled it between his fingers before flicking it away. “You know, our fathers hated each other, but I thought we at least could be friends.”
Junmyeon scoffed. “You’ve hated me since our days at private school. Friendship is the last thing on your mind. Now, my territory and control of the east shore, that, I’m sure, is really what you’re interested in.”
“You’re wrong actually,” Junko taunted, taking a few steps towards Junmyeon. “Sure, those things are important, but they’re not my top priority right now. You see, the first couple of years after (y/n)’s parents sadly passed away, my father kept an eye on her to make sure she grew up well... until Taegun succeeded in hiding her. She was always meant to be mine.”
“I don’t think she really wants you,” Junmyeon mocked. “Anyway, stop playing the romantic hero. We all know that you only want the rights to the files.”
Junko set his jaw. “Isn’t that why you snatched her up first?”
Junmyeon shrugged, knowing that every word that was about to leave his mouth was going to set Junko off. “The files will always be most important, but,” he added in a smirk for effect, “I am also a man. (y/n)’s not bad on the eyes, so I guess you could say it’s an added bonus. Something warm to hold at night….”
That did it.
Junko lunged, hitting Junmyeon right below the eye with his fist. Junmyeon landed his own punch on Junko’s face, connecting with his jaw. Unfortunately, the latter’s limbs were longer and he was able to land more blows than Junmyeon could counter.
Finally, the punches stopped, with Junmyeon on his knees, balancing himself on his palms. Blood mixed with saliva sprayed when he spat out the liquid that was filling up his mouth. At least he was able to leave a few cuts and bruises on Junko’s face as well.
“One way or another,” Junko heaved, “I’ll have her. And your name will never leave her lips again.” Before leaving, he landed one more kick to Junmyeon’s stomach.
Once he was alone, Junmyeon slowly stood back up to his feet, holding his side to try and ease the pain. A slew of curses left his mouth with each step he took. If he hadn’t drank so much, he might have actually been able to hold his own a bit longer.
Junmyeon knew better than to pick a fight with Junko. In their school days, fighting between the two of them was common and Junko, thanks to his height, usually came out on top.
It took a while, but he was able to catch a cab back to the apartment building. The driver kept sending him skeptical looks through the rearview mirror, but he smartly kept his mouth shut.
Back in the penthouse, the lights were still on. Jongdae and you were fast asleep on the couch, but  for once Jongdae was sitting a good distance away from you. Good. That meant he saw the daggers Junmyeon was staring at Yixing. He wouldn’t need to have a separate talk.
It took a bit of force to shake his vanguard awake. A whine escaped from the sleeping gangster, but he jumped up once he saw the face of the interruption.
“Hyung!”
“Shh,” Junmyeon hissed. “You’ll wake her up. Come on.”
Jongdae followed him to the kitchen, where the clock read that it was nearly five in the morning. Shit.
“What happened?” Jongdae whispered. “Where are the others?”
“I sent them home a few hours ago,” Junmyeon groaned, sitting down on a stool. “I just needed to go on a walk, but I ran into Junko. I guess you know what they say about poking the sleeping bear.”
“You egged him on?” Jongdae scolded. He shook his head disapprovingly. “Did you not learn anything from school?”
Junmyeon smiled. That was the strongest aspect of his inner circle. They all knew each other from when they were young; it’s what made their bond so strong. Sometimes, however, that meant they could bring up the past. Not that Junmyeon ever really could forget their school days.
“I couldn’t help it,” he shrugged. “He kept talking about (y/n) and how he was supposed to have her. I just wanted him to shut up.”
Jongdae opened his mouth to say something, but thought better of the idea and closed it.
“Go home and get some rest,” Junmyeon ordered. Nodding, Jongdae sighed and exited the kitchen.
As quietly as he could, Junmyeon stood back up and walked over to the freezer to find something cold to press to his face. Moving the perishables around, however, made too much noise. He went still when he heard footsteps echoing in the hallway. So much for not waking you up.
“Are you just now getting home?” you asked sleepily.
Since his back was still to you, Junmyeon let himself grin at your gravelly, just-woken-up voice. It was cute and it pulled at his stomach, how innocent you sounded.
“Yeah,” he answered. “I had some… things to take care of.”
Your bare feet slapped against the tile and Junmyeon had to maneuver to try and keep you from seeing his face.
“Chen said you usually get home around three,” you commented hesitantly. Your voice sounded dejected. “Did you, um, did you go somewhere else? Or maybe… never mind.”
Junmyeon frowned. “Or maybe what?”
“It doesn’t matter,” you whispered. “You should get some sleep.”
“No, (y/n),” Junmyeon tried not to be harsh. He already had a feeling as to where your thoughts were going. “What were you going to say?”
A few seconds of silence went by before you finally spoke up. “I mean, there were a lot of beautiful women there, so I thought that maybe you went home with one of them.”
By the end of the comment your voice was thick. You even tried to muffle a sniffle. Junmyeon’s shoulders dropped. Did you really care if he had gone home with someone else? The thought hadn’t even crossed his mind all evening, a first.
It was obvious that you had tried to wait up for him. You could have gone to bed, but you’d fallen asleep on the couch and had even asked Jongdae what time he usually came home. He never had a woman treat him that way. What were you doing to him?
His hand went to his face, knowing there really wasn’t any way he could hide this from you; not now or tomorrow. Turning around slowly, his eyes met yours and it was like a bolt of lightning hit him when shock and worry covered your face.
**
For a moment you were like a statue, unable to move, speak, or even breathe. Where you had expected lipstick smudges, there were bruises. Without even thinking, you ran forward, placing your hands on Junmyeon’s face, careful not to hurt him further.
“What happened?” you shrieked.
“I decided to try things your way and have a smart mouth,” he groaned, slightly bending at his waist.
As much as you wanted to hit him for that comment, you were too concerned about the split lip he was currently sporting. Shaking your head, you started moving him towards the hallway. “You need to lie down.”
It was a struggle, but you were able to hobble all the way to Junmyeon’s room, supporting as much of his weight that you could. You barely paid attention to how intricate the room was decorated as you sat him carefully down on his bed. If any blood got on the sheets, you would just wash them later.
“He might be sleeping, but I’ll call Yixing.” You started searching his pockets. “Where’s your cell phone?”
“No!” Junmyeon growled as he grabbed your wrist. His features softened at your stunned face. “I’m fine. I don’t need Yixing. There’s a first aid kit underneath my sink. Just bring that here.”
Reluctantly, you obeyed, running to the bathroom and tearing open the cabinet doors until you found the familiar white box under the sink.
When you got back to Junmyeon, he was in the middle of struggling to take off his jacket. Your heart hurt seeing the agonizing expression from such a simple action. Stepping in, you took the jacket the rest of the way off, throwing it in a random direction to be picked up later.
After you sat down next to him, you opened the kit and pulled out the peroxide. Once a small amount was soaked into a cotton pad, you gently dabbed at the cuts on Junmyeon’s skin. His eyes didn’t leave your own face as you worked at his wounds. He had his own supply of arnica gel and - learning from Yixing - you applied a small amount to the bruises on that were forming.
“Who did this?” you finally asked. The ach from seeing him so hurt was killing you.
“Your other fiancé,” he deadpanned.
“Junko,” you gasped. Your hands dropped to your lap and your eyes began to prickle. “So, this is my fault. He attacked you because of me.”
You hated how much you’ve cried in front of Junmyeon the past several hours. Why was everyone associated with you getting hurt or threatened? Why were you even affected by each injury you found on his face?
Junmyeon wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into his chest. “No, no. This is not your fault. I provoked him. I’m too cocky sometimes and I goaded him into it. No one’s to blame but me.”
When he started rubbing circles on your back you pushed away. Why was he being so kind to you? Staring up at Junmyeon in disbelief, you didn’t miss his flinching as he twisted his upper body.
You panicked. “Are you hurt somewhere else?”
He held his side, but he tried to play it like it was nothing. “I’m fine. I just need to sleep it off.”
Not putting up with his crap, you reached out and started unbuttoning his dress shirt.
He let out a noise somewhere between a cough and a laugh. “You know, all you have to do is ask if you want to go that far.”
As much as you wanted to punch him, you settled for a glare. Your jaw dropped when you opened his shirt. Dark purple bruises as large as your palm stuck out against his tanned skin. Reflexively, you reached out, letting just the tips of your fingers touch the blemishes. The skin stretched over the muscles was smooth and soft. How could he be beaten so badly if he was in such good shape?
“(y/n).”
His voice was barely above a whisper. You looked up at him and there was an unreadable expression in his eyes that you’d never seen before. He placed one hand the one of yours that was still settled on his stomach and cupped your jaw with the other.
“Are you scared?” His face was so close to yours that you could count the different shades of brown in his eyes. Unable trust yourself to lie, you nodded. The corners of his lips turned up just a fraction. “Don’t be. I’ve had worse injuries. Really, just a few hours rest and I’ll be fine.”
That wasn’t the only thing that terrified you, but you didnt verbalize it.
“Can I–” You bit your bottom lip, surprised on what you wanted to request. You shouldn’t be this concerned. Nothing was going to happen to him, right? There wasn’t any reason you needed to watch over him, was there?
But you couldn’t help think about what if he didn’t make it through night. What would happen to you then? If there was a choice between Junmyeon or Junko, it was an easy decision. And… you wanted to comfort Junmyeon like how he comforted you back at the illegal casino. His presence was starting to do something to you. You couldn’t explain what it was, but it urged you to stick around and try to figure it out.
Junmyeon cocked his head. “Can you what?”
“Can I stay with you?” You could barely hear the words that left your mouth, but the smile on his face told you that he heard every word.
He nodded. “Of course.”
Testing out each movement, he removed his socks and belt, but kept his slacks on before dragging himself to the top of the bed. He slid under the covers and then patted the space next to him.
You could feel the heat rushing up to your cheeks. Granted, you weren’t completely clueless or inexperienced and nothing but rest was going to happen, but you were still unprepared for this kind of thing. You never imagined this situation when you first entered this house.
For a split second, you considered changing your mind and just running back to your own bed, but you didn’t want to leave him alone. Giving in, you settled down on top of the covers until Junmyeon threw you a look.
“How am I supposed to sleep if you’re holding down the comforter?” he pointed out.
Huffing, you stood up and threw the blankets back. You cautiously slipped into the bed, lying down on your back and staring up at the ceiling.
“(y/n).”
You flipped over to your side to face Junmyeon. You held your head up, resting it in your palm as you propped up on your elbow. He held out a hand and let his fingers gently caress your cheek.
“Thank you,” he murmured.
With a heavy sigh, you pursed your lips. “Well, I couldn’t just sit back and let your wounds fester. You’re too stubborn to get help from the others.”
Junmyeon raised an eyebrow. “You presume to know me so well. It’s not like you’ve been around me for very long.”
It was true that he was hardly ever around for you to get to know him, but still…. “It doesn’t exactly take an expert to see how stubborn you are. But you’re right. I know the guys better than I know you.”
A crease appeared between his eyebrows. “Why don’t we change that? We could actually try to spend time together, get to know each other some more.”
“You don’t think we might kill each other?” you joked. While you meant it as a “haha”, you wondered if it might actually happen. Even breakfast only stayed peaceful for so long before it went to crap. Okay, it was mostly your own fault and how you reacted to the ring, but could you really be entirely blamed for it?
Junmyeon scooted closer to you, rubbing your upper arm. “I think we can get along, if we try.”
You actually gave it some thought. As much as you wanted to deny it, a small bit of you was attracted to him. And he wasn’t outright suggesting any sort of relationship, just that you try to get along and find out more about each other. That could make this sham of a marriage more bearable when the time came, right?
Internally, you snorted. Try to get along. Like a couple of kids forced into a playdate. Fighting over toys and what to watch on TV was inevitable, but the moments in between, you could make tolerable, maybe even memorable.
A wall was easy to build and hard to break down, but maybe the mortar hadn’t hardened yet. You certainly didn’t hate him as much you originally thought. You’d grown soft towards him, never really being the type that was good at holding grudges anyway.
Look at you, you were already tending to his wounds and watching over him. You could be such a bleeding heart sometimes.
“Okay,” you agreed. “I think I’d like that. But right now, I think you should get some sleep.”
Junmyeon laughed and then grimaced. “You’re right. You should get sleep, too.”
“Good night, Junmyeon.”
His smiled crookedly. “Good morning, (y/n).”

I was tagged by @bailandonorris, thanks!
1. what is the colour of your hair brush?
I have a silver paddle brush which I don’t use very often, a transparent and purple swirly coloured (honestly don’t know how else to describe) afro comb, and a regular black comb.
2. name of a food you never eat?
Tuna, can’t stand it. To be honest, I eat most things if they’re warm, but VERY fussy when it comes to cold food
3. are you typically too warm or too cold?
Definitely too hot! I still have a fan on in the winter at night time
4. what were you doing 45 minutes ago?
Playing Animal Crossing, tried to catch some tarantulas because Flick is on my island but the dodos don’t seem to want to send me to any decent islands so my mission was unsuccessful
5. what’s your favourite candy bar?
That’s a hard one... probably either Cadbury’s marvelous creations with the jelly beans and popping candy, darkmilk, or the one with oreos. Snickers are pretty great too, also Kinder Bueno and just Kinder chocolate in general. Basically, what I’m saying is I love chocolate
6. have you ever been to a professional sports event?
Yes, I went to the London 2012 Olympics to watch show jumping, football and basketball! Have probably been to others? Really want to go to Wimbledon at some point but not sure when I’ll be able to do that. Does dog agility count as sport? Seen it at Crufts multiple times
7. what is the last thing you said out loud?
‘Night night curly shoes’ - a goodnight wish for my sweet doggo Ivy
8. what is your favourite ice cream?
I’m a fan of coconut ice cream it has to be said, also honeycomb, and your standard Ben and Jerry’s cookie dough is high up there. Really specifically, the vanilla ice cream from the waffle shop in Cirencester. To be honest, don’t eat much ice cream, not my go-to food choice because I’m lactose intolerant and a lot of it makes me feel sick just thinking about it. Has to be good!
9. what is the last thing you had to drink?
Some water, absolute health right here (she says drinking her first glass of water all day after about 4 cans of Pepsi Max whoops)
10. do you like your wallet?
I guess so, yes. Could probably do with a slightly more efficient one but it’s decent
11. what was the last thing you ate?
A jazz apple from the fridge. We have no pink ladies which are the favourites but jazz are pretty tasty too
12. did you buy any new clothes last week?
No, only virtual ones in Animal Crossing. I haven’t been clothes shopping in so long and doesn’t look like that will change anytime soon
13. last sporting event you watched?
Honestly no idea, since all the sport has been cancelled for a while I can’t think what the last thing would have been. Probably Cheltenham races on the telly back in February or March or whenever it was?
14. what’s your favourite flavour of popcorn?
The classic, salty cinema popcorn. Honestly the best
15. who was the last person you sent a message to?
Strangely, someone from my secondary school who I haven’t ever spoken to over message before. She posted our leavers video on her Instagram and thought I’d message since I’d been looking for that video for  y e a r s  and sparked a conversation! She never liked me much back in school I don’t think, she was popular and I really wasn’t so I never properly spoke to her. One of my friends had a bit of drama with her, absolutely hated her, but they eventually became best pals. Also her best pal during most of school really didn’t like me for some reason... anyway, had a nice chat, strange how friendly she seems these days
16. ever go camping?
Uhh well... I’ve been 4 times, 2 of which were for D of E and I can safely say I’ve never had a good experience. First time, the people in the tent next to us got arrested at 3AM for drugs or something, second time was my dad’s 40th birthday and my brother didn’t know he was allergic to nuts so eating a cake with mixed nuts on the top didn’t go down well for him... also went to a restaurant on the way there with my granny and got a caterpillar in my salad. Third and fourth times, let’s just say D of E was one of the worst experiences of my life, I’ll leave it at that... would really like to go camping again though to have a good experience, maybe change my mind on it? I don’t know, willing to give it a try
17. do you take vitamins?
I go through phases, sometimes I take them every day, other times I don’t take them for like 3 months
18. do you go to church every sunday?
I used to, but as I got older I slowly went less and less until I didn’t go at all. I lost faith I guess? Kind of didn’t feel I belonged there or believed anymore. I loved singing the hymns and our vicar was an absolute lad, we also got biscuits at the end of each service, but over time I decided it wasn’t right for me to keep going. Pretty much all the people that go to ours are your typical white, posh, probably homophobic and hate children type so that put me off. Also after everything that’s happened in mine and other’s lives, I slowly lost the belief in God. If all of it was true, why would these things happen? I guess also my scientific mind was constantly telling me there’s no proof. I think the only reason I went to begin with was because it was a family thing and as a child I believed pretty much everything that was said
19. do you have a tan?
No, certainly not... used to when I lived in the Caribbean but now I’m pretty much white as a sheet
20. do you prefer chinese food or pizza?
A very difficult one... probably chinese? As much as I love pizza, it’s the same issue as the ice cream
21. do you drink soda with a straw?
Nah not a fan of straws, they taste weird
22. what colour socks do you wear?
ALL THE COLOURS! I own a pair of socks for every outfit to colour co-ordinate, my sock draw is overflowing
23. do you ever drive above the speed limit?
Strangely, I drive under by quite a bit when no one else is around. It’s the other cars that stress me out and make me go too fast. Also I have a black box so not allowed
24. what terrifies you?
Good question, lots of things... the sea, pools, tbh water in general, heights, rejection, the current impending doom, large open spaces with no walls I can be against, losing everyone I love, the fact that anyone might be secretly talking about me behind my back because they actually hate me, the list goes on but I won’t continue it
25. look to your left what do you see?
An empty Pepsi Max can, a glass of water, some crocodile scissors, my Switch, a cranberry scented candle, and some tiny balls of wool
26. what chore do you hate?
Got to be changing my bed, or washing up when the things have got cold food left on them
27. what do you think of when you hear an australian accent?
A throwback to year 8
28. what’s your favourite soda?
Pepsi Max
29. do you go into fast food places or drive thru?
It depends who I’m with
30. who was the last person you talked to?
My mum about a meteor shower and satellites
31. favourite cut of beef?
A random question... I do like a good rump steak
32. last song you listened to?
You Make My Dreams by Hall and Oates because I’m using it in my animation project
33. last book you read?
I’m like part way through Good Omens and have been for quite some time... I have learning difficulties and find reading a lot of effort so don’t read very often
34. can you say the alphabet backwards?
No, it’s the kind of thing I’d have expected myself to learn at some point but never did
35. how do you like your coffee?
I don’t like coffee so in the bin
36. favourite pair of shoes?
My multicoloured Vans, got them in the second week of uni and I’ve loved them ever since
37. the time you normally go to bed?
Well, currently it’s around 1AM to go to bed, 3AM to sleep. Used to be around 12/1AM sleep but the lockdown has ruined that
38. the time you normally wake up?
Again, currently it’s around 11:30AM to wake up then 12PM to do things but used to be around 9:30/10AM. To be honest I still sometimes wake up then but I go back to sleep again because I have no reason to exist more than I need
39. what do you prefer sunrise or sunsets?
Sunrise is always nice to watch, but I don’t like getting up early so definitely sunset, especially when you’re at a restaurant or sitting outside somewhere in the countryside
40. how many blankets are on your bed?
Just the one duvet, but I have a soft fish patterned blanket for when I want something to cuddle with
41. describe your kitchen plates?
We have some plain white ones and some that are white with leaves around the edges. The edges have a ridged pattern and the rims are gold
42. do you have a favourite alcoholic beverage?
I don’t drink so no
43. do you play cards?
Yes, love a good card game!
44. what colour is your car?
It’s very nice Caribbean sea blue. Used to be my mum’s car, it’s her favourite colour
45. can you change a tire?
I probably could if I had to but can’t say I’ve done it before
46. your favourite province?
I guess that’s counties? Hometown of Gloucestershire is up there, also a fan of Devon. My favourites may have to be Caenarfonshire and Anglesey though after the road trip last year
47. favourite job you’ve had?
Not sure really, I guess it would have to be doing my art commissions
48. how did you get your biggest scar?
The biggest scar I have these days is on my right knuckle between my index and middle finger, it’s very small. I got it from when I was holding a horse still before untacking and he decided that hay was more exciting, caught my hand on a splintered wooden fence and that was that
49. what did you do today that made someone happy?
Nothing, I’ve only seen my family and even then it was for a short time. Don’t think I make anyone happy these days ahah
It’s now 3:22AM, that took longer than I expected. ‘I’ll go to sleep early today’ I said but I say that every day. Don’t know why I keep lying to myself.
Anyway, I guess I have to tag someone now, so I tag @duckingpunches !

TodoDeku drabble
*So it's not really a drabble I guess.. but an idea I've had. So it may or may not turn into more. I haven't written in years so I'm getting my sea legs lol Enjoy! I will add more to it eventually*
The dream is always the same. Someone is calling his name loudly. Theres a bright flash of light. Suddenly, he's surrounded by the scent of crisp peppermint and another scent he can't place, which he never understands. A pair of eyes, filled with love look down at him. The eyes are beautiful. Nothing like he's ever seen. One blue eye, surrounded by a burn mark. And a gray eye. He wants to smile at the eyes, tell the eyes he's fine, but before he can open his mouth, he wakes up.
Night after night, Deku has this dream. He wakes up frustrated. All he wants is to tell those eyes how beautiful they are. He wants to know who they belong to. He wants to tell the eyes that he --- well, what does he want to say to this mystery person? He lays awake in the early morning hours, the rising suns gentle light illuminating his room. He hates that after years of having this dream, he can never go back to sleep when he's forcefully awakened.
What do I want to tell the eyes? That I love them? Deku scoffs at his own stupidity. How could he possibly love someone he's never met? And for all he knows, his brain is inventing this character to deal with the fact that he's---he's---an omega. He spent the first half of his childhood knowing he was going to be an alpha, like his idol, All Might. However, at the age of 13, when he didnt experience his first rut, his mother told him that not everyone does at the age of 13. At 14, when he still hadn't experienced a rut, his mother reassured him that he was just a "late bloomer". At 15, when he noticed he would nest when he was anxious, his mother's platitudes became tainted with concern. At 16, when Deku could no longer sleep if he wasn't nesting, she stopped reassuring him. Finally, a week before his 19th birthday, he had his first heat.
Devastated doesn't begin to describe how he felt, but when he went to his mother for reassurance, she cried just as hard as he did.
He didnt leave his house for months after his first heat. He didnt want to face the outside world. How could he be a Omega? Wasnt that only for women? He asked his mother several questions about secondary gender.
"Will I get my heat every month?" - She didn't know.
"Can I get pregnant?" - She didnt know.
"Will I attract male alpha's?" - She didnt know.
"Are there female alpha's?" - She didnt know.
"Well what the fuck do you know?!" He screamed at her through his tears.
All she did was shrug her shoulders and open her arms to comfort him.
Now, at 21, he had been successful in isolating himself so thoroughly, that his world was condensed to the small space of his bedroom, his mother, and a friend he had made in an online forum for male omegas. He didn't mind being lonely. He could mask his depression well enough to the point to where his mother no longer asked if he was fine.
She had been bugging him about leaving the house more lately. "Izuku, why won't you go register for university like other kids your age?"
"Izuku, why dont you go down to the corner store and get a job. I told them you'd stop by."
"Izuku, why won't you go for a walk in the park, it's nice out."
After being met with silence after every suggestion, she gave up.
He sighed and rolled over onto his side. The sun was bright enough to goad him out of bed. He pulled on the same sweats and ratty All Might T-shirt that he'd been wearing for the past week. He wet his toothbrush (because he knows his mom has been checking), swallows a bit of mouth wash, and goes to have breakfast.
His body hurts more today than it has in a while. He sighs with each step, slowly lowering himself into the chair that faces his mother.
"Izuku," she starts.
He groans at the sound of her voice. He loves his mother, but her suggestions have become like nails on a chalkboard.
"Yes mama?"
She clears her throat and begins again, "I know you haven't showered for a week. I know you haven't brushed your teeth or combed your hair. You dont eat as much anymore. I'm worried."
His cheeks reddened and he lowered his eyes to the floor, "Sorry mom", he whispers.
"Izuku, look at me.."
He lifts round green eyes to stare at his mother. He tries to fight them back, but large hot tears cascade down his cheeks, falling into his breakfast.
"Izuku," she says his name softly, with so much love and care. He doesnt know when he moved from his seat or when he was pulled into her arms or even when his tears became loud strangled sobs, but he knew he needed to be held and comforted like he was when he was 5 and he skinned his knees.
He buries his face in her shoulder, his sobs wracking his entire body. Between cries he lets her know he's not okay. He hasn't been okay since he was 19. Since his first heat.
His mother held him like a small child and told him that she knew he wasn't okay. Which is why, he has an appointment for therapy later today.
His head snapped back as if he was hit. "Therapy?! I'm sad, not fucking crazy"
His mother looked up at him, pleading with her eyes. "Just go. Just once. For me. Okay?"
He sighed deeply, "Fine. Just once. But I'm NOT crazy."
He could tell his mother wanted to push him to change, but before she could, he wearily said, "I can't mom. It takes too much energy out of me. If I do, I won't have the energy to leave the house."
She didnt push him and he was grateful.
After she finished her breakfast, Deku was reminded that they needed to leave now to make their appointment on time. He was nervous and he knew his mother could smell his scent rolling off of him in tides, because her scent of fresh cut lawn and jasmine wafted over him in waves. He relaxed enough to get into the car.
As they neared the office, his mother had to scent him again. "Izuku, calm. Your scent is overpowering."
He closed his eyes, counted backwards from 50, asked himself WWAMD (what would All Might do), and pulled himself together.
"Better", she said quietly.
His mother walked into the office before he did. Each step he took was small and calculated. He was muttering to himself, convincing himself to keep walking, keep moving forward. Without raising his eyes, he found himself checking in for his appointment.
He sat quietly as his mother flipped through magazines nervously. Finally, the door opened and he lifted his eyes to see what his therapist looked like .
All of the air was sucked from his lungs. Every sound fell away. The fluorescent lights became so bright, his vision was nearly completely white.
Before him, shaking the hand of the person he can only assume was his therapist, was a man his age. Slender, but tone. Deep voice that he had heard in his dream for years. He needed the man to turn around. He willed him to turn around.
And when he did, Deku felt his heart stop.
One blue eye, with a red burn mark. One beautiful gray eye.
Deku passed out.

5 things tag
Tagged by @kyungsooslatinagf thank you lovely! 💕
Tagging: @hongseok @owowookies @ilovkji @honeybeeloey @solojongdaes @rainbowayv @xiuxiuflake and anyone else that wants to do this :)
5 things you’ll find in my bag:
My purse (a bit obvious but yeah)
Hand sanitizer, I’m that person too and I always need a bottle with me 😂
A pair of headphones I literally have a pair in almost every bag I own
Period pads and painkillers because pcos sucks but also you never know when someone else might need them, women gotta help each other out
Old receipts because I never remember to throw them away 😶
5 things you’ll find in my room:
My growing collection of exo albums, I only have 13 so far but I’m getting there
A teddy bear with a missing nose my aunt got me when I was born on one side of my pillow and a teddy in a graduation cap my mum got me when I graduated last year on the other side
My collection of nintendo ds games, I think I have about 28 games
My guitar which I haven’t played in a year...I think I’ve forgotten most of the songs I learnt to play lol
My old uni folders and work stacked up on the floor waiting to be recycled
5 of my favourite things:
My 2 year old niece, anyone that knows me has probably seen me talk about her at least once but she’s so smart and cute and I want her to date Jongins nephew :’)
My nintendo 3DS and my Professor Layton games... this is where you find out how much of a nerd I am when I tell you I spent my entire teenage years playing games about an Archaeology professor that solves puzzles but I seriously love those games so much 🤓
Pasta! I try to keep my portion sizes down to lose weight but I really can’t control myself when it comes to pasta
Escape rooms, me and my secondary school friends went to a horror/murder mystery themed escape room last year and it was amazing so we’re planning to go to more
My Kipling bags, they’re kind of expensive but this brand is amazing because the bags will last forever. My old backpacks would break in like a month at school with the weight of my books but my Kipling backpack has lasted me 6 years and still looks band new...and they all come with cute monkey keyrings and I swear one of them looks exactly like Chanyeols tattoo 🙉
5 things I’m into right now:
Robinsons crushed mint and lime juice, it’s my new obsession because it tastes so good
Gilmore girls, it’s quite an old show and not what I’d usually watch but I just started watching it and the whole thing of it being a show about a mother and daughter and their close bond is really cute 🥺
Table tennis, in the business park that I work in they have table tennis tables dotted around and you can play on them for free so me and my coworker (not the annoying one) go and play every day during our lunch break and I’ve actually gotten really good
Learning Korean so I don’t have to wait for subtitles for ksoos movies anymore lol. I’m still extremely basic and I definitely need to make a set time for me to learn because I constantly just fall asleep as soon as I get home from work so I haven’t done much learning lately
Cricket because the cricket world cup is starting in a couple of months and it’s in the UK!!!! But I didn’t manage to get tickets to an India match :’( so me and my friend are just gonna watch it on TV together
5 things on my to-do list:
I guess now is the time to mention that I got braces last month! Tomorrow is my first tightening appointment so I gotta wake up at 6:30am to go to that (also instead of looking 22 I now look like I’m 16 again)
Take my car to a car wash, my sister borrowed it 3 weeks ago, parked it under a tree and it now has bird poop in 3 different places and no matter how many times it’s rained since then they still haven’t washed off
Buy and send birthday cards to 2 of my friends, I haven’t had time to do it yet which is really bad of me and with the easter holidays they won’t even be sent out until Tuesday which is the day of one of their birthdays (and the other one is the day after but they live in a different country so it will take even longer to get there) but hopefully a late card is better than none...(i’m sorry) 😖
Get through the gif requests in my inbox, I have a lot of ideas for some of them but can’t decide on anything
Buy a dash cam because I hate driving, other drivers are maniacs and I’ve been in too many near accident because of other people that I need one for if and when that day comes 🙃

14) I don’t know, I’m an adult, it seems foolish to only have three colours I’m allowed to like. It seems foolish I was able to pick two. It depends on my mood, to combination, the time of year, whether I threw up last night or not...
IN THE LAST YEAR YOU HAVE YOU
15) Made new friends: Maybe? Online for sure.
16) Fallen out of love: Nope.
17) Laughed until you cried: I can barely remember last week, how am I supposed to know this?
18) Found out someone was gossiping about you: No? I don’t talk to people frequently enough to find out if I’m being talked about.
19) Met someone who changed your life: Of course I have. Every single moment of every single day changed your life, how could an interaction not? Even something mundane has changed your life from what it had been mere moments before. That being said, no, I have had no major revelations or life changing experiences. Except maybe meeting the doctor who gave me antidepressants.
20) Found out who your true friends are: Not in the last year....I still have them. I’ve known for some time.
21) Kissed someone on your Facebook list: Boyfriend. I’ve probably planted one on some other peoples faces too.
HOW MANY/MUCH
22) Facebook friends: Who fucking knows or cares?
23) Pets: One boyfriend.
24) Want to change your name: I can’t see how this is a how much or how many question?

26) Time I woke up: 5:38 this morning, in the hunt for water. I didn’t get back to sleep. I am going to regret it.
27) Were you doing at midnight: Dunno. Might have been sleeping, but I might have still been drinking. I didn’t look at the time all night and I get memory blackouts when I drink anyway.
28) Can’t you wait for: To decide upon my next career move, buy a house, publish a book.
29) Was the last time you saw your mom: Almost 9 years ago to the day.
30) Was something you wish you could change about your life: Too many to name. Although right this minute, I’d like to be less of a twat when I drink.
31) Are you listening to right now: My house guest walking about and the wind and rain and the thumping of my tiny cold frozen heart.
32) Gets on your nerves: Being a twat when I drink.
33) Talked to a person named Tom: This question doesn’t make sense. I would like to personally find the person who came up with the quiz and scold them in to better grammar.
34) Is your most visited website: I can’t be bothered to learn to find out.
35) Elementary school/primary school: I feel that as I have been free with my age on Tumblr, and I attended a primary school with less than a hundred pupils, that I would probably be singing away my anonymity be answering this question.
36) High School: I feel that as I have been free with my age on Tumblr, and I attended a secondary school with less than a thousand pupils, that I would probably be singing away my anonymity be answering this question.
37) College: I feel that as I have been free with my age on Tumblr, and I attended a college and university with easily searchable alumni, that I would probably be singing away my anonymity be answering this question.
38) Hair color: Rat
39) Long/short hair: I think it’s short, everyone else thinks it’s long. Body dismorphia is a strange beast.
40) Crush: Cans most frequently. Sometimes cardboard boxes.
41) Do you like about yourself: I have a fully functioning digestive system.
42) Piercings: Many.
43) Blood type: Unless you’ve given blood or had a transfusion, I literally don’t know how you would find this out.
44) Nickname: Jeff the god of biscuits.
45) Relationship status: Cheating of the boyfriend with an array of savoury snacks
46) Zodiac: The biscuit
47) Pronouns: Bis/cuit
48) Favorite show: I dunno, depends on the day. Although lets be honest, it’s probably supernatural. Closely followed by Mr. Benn
49) Tattoos: Snope.
50) Left or right handed: Right, because this make a difference to my online persona.
FIRST
51) Surgery: I had all three of my wisdom teeth removed. So now I am not wise. And I was always 1/4 less wise than everyone else anyway.
52) Piercings: Ears. At a hairdressers. Because that’s how things were done in 1998.

54) Sport: I don’t think I’ve ever done anything to qualify.
55) Vacation: I went to Majorca and got stung by a jellyfish.

59) I am about to: Finish this quiz I would assume, unless I plan on dragging it out a little longer.
60) Listening to: Well, my house guest has stopped walking about since you asked earlier. (This is going on the list of reasons to hunt you down, quiz author.)
61) Waiting for: Tea to magically appear, my headache to go away.
62) Want to see: A book I’ve written being sold for moneys.
63) Want to get married: Nah.
64) Career: That would be nice.
WHICH IS BETTER
65) Hugs/kisses: pretty dependant on a number of factors. From an octopus? A hug. From a great white shark? a kiss. His arms are too short.
66) Lips/eyes: Both are useful.
67) Taller/shorter: Taller for reaching things on the top shelf at the supermarket, shorter for weaving between annoying people blocking your path.
68) Younger/older: I mean.... young is good, unless you’re ready to die, then old is good. Young is good for playing and not getting weird looks from other adults, older is good for getting drunk.
69) Romantic/spontaneous: I can’t see how these things are contradictory. But I prefer to plan out my non-romantic events carefully.
70) Nice arms/nice stomach: I prefer people to have both, but I suppose if I had to pick one, stomach. You don’t get far without one.
71) Sensitive/loud: Again, you can be both. I’m going with insensitively quiet.
72) Hookup/relationship: Relationship.
73) Troublemaker/hesitant: I’d like a normal human how had a range of emotion.
HAVE YOU EVER
74) Kissed a stranger: Plenty.
75) Drank hard liquor: No, obviously. I’m a thirty year old fan of sobriety. Have you not read my answers so far?
76) Lost glasses/contact lenses: No. Because they are expensive and I have to pay for my own shit.
77) Turned someone down: Yeah. Once. I felt bad.
78) Canoodling on a first date: I’ve canoodled before a date. Does that count?
79) Broken someone’s heart: I highly doubt it.
80) Had your own heart broken: I’m not certain I have one.
81) Been arrested: No, I am a good monkey.
82) Cried when someone died: Yes because I am not a callous bitch.
83) Fallen for a friend: Literally? Probably. I used to fall down a lot when I drank, probably done it at least once when a friend told me to do something stupid.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN
84) Yourself: Wel, I know I’m here... Otherwise? Not so much. I am a confidence blackhole.
85) Miracles: No. Because there isn’t a old white dude with a beard sitting on a cloud.
86) Santa Claus: Sadly no, because there isn’t an old white dude hiding under the snow.
87) Kisses on a first date: Well, I believe in them because they happen. I haven’t really ever dated though... so... It wasn’t really a thing in England. You got drunk with people, and sometimes they didn’t leave.
88) Angels: No. Because there aren’t lots of white naked guys flapping about.
89) Love at first sight: No. Love is a construct. Unless it’s cake. Or sometimes cheese. I fall in love with cheese pretty easily.
OTHER
90) Best friend’s name: Bert the god of Cam
91) Eye color: No clue. Bluey-greyey-yellowey-greeny-. Mostly grey blue. depends on my eye makeup and clothing colours.
92) Favorite movie: There was one we had to watch about a blind and deaf women giving birth. That was pretty nifty. (read awful.)

Bible Arguments 6
By DeYtH Banger "That’s right. This is great news, because since you have been ignoring me all these years, and have not been giving me the proper respect I deserve, you have made me very upset. I become an angry person when I am not honored, when my loving character is not appreciated. So, I built a torture chamber down in my basement. It’s dark and hot down there, with sharp knives and chains and hooks on the walls, and a furnace with flames, and some smelly vats with caustic Lake-of-Fire chemicals. It’s horrible. But the good news is that you don’t have to go down there. I sent my son down there. It was ugly. It was horrific. My only-begotten son experienced an agony of suffering and shame. But that satisfied my anger, and I’m not mad any more. It is finished. And that is great news for you! All you have to do is come up here on my porch and thank my bleeding son for what he did for you. Tell him you love him." - Dan Barker "“What is the life of life?” That question is based on a belief that life, like a tool, has no internal purpose of its own. If you don’t have the freedom to choose to strive for your own goals, then you are not really alive. You are a hammer. If you think your purpose must come from outside yourself, you are a lifeless implement or a slave to another mind. And that is exactly what most religions teach. The so-called good news of Christian ity, for example, cheats its followers with the sleight of hand of trading purpose for purpose, euthanizing the individual by cutting out the heart of life and implanting it elsewhere. It turns a living creature into a dead shell." - Dan Barker "“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”3 He told believers to “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.”4 Those words were written by a man who called himself a “slave” of Christ: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”5 “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”6 “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”7 In Christianity, you have to die so that someone else can live through you." - Dan Barker "Rick Warren, best-selling author of The Purpose Driven Life, agrees with Paul and Jesus. He has sold tens of millions of books worldwide to worshipful believers who have been conned into thinking that life is not life..." - Dan Barker "He has convinced his flock that it is actually good to be a slave. For political reasons, the fame he has achieved as a shepherd preaching sheephood got him invited to offer the opening prayer at President Barack Obama’s first inauguration. What an irony that the most important civic ritual belonging to all Americans, the swearing in of our secular president, had to be “solemnized” by a superstitious sermonizer who believes that the authority of our nation stems not from we, the people, in pursuit of happiness, but from the sovereignty of a “Lord” who dictates that we must submit to his will because a talking snake tricked us into eating the fruit of knowledge." - Dan Barker "Warren’s entire book; others have already done that. Robert M. Price’s book, The Reason Driven Life, neatly exposes the fact that The Purpose Driven Life is nothing more than newly packaged old-fashioned biblical fundamentalism." - Dan Barker "Before he became wealthy selling sanctimonious self-help (the “self” not being the reader), he was charged with abusing the IRS tax code. In the early 1990s, his church had paid all or a substantial part of his salary as a cash “housing allowance,” allowing him to report little or no income, taking advantage of a little-known, unfair provision in the statutes that allows “ministers of the gospel” to exclude their rent or house payments from income, greatly lowering their tax liability.8 What Warren did was clearly wrong—he was excluding his entire salary as if he were spending it all on housing. He was cheating the rest of us taxpayers. But since the law was ambiguously stated, not setting a limit to the allowance, he did not have to pay penalties or back taxes. Congress mooted the case in 2002, getting Warren off the hook, but clarifying that from now on the housing allowance is limited to the fair rental value of the home.9 This pastor, like most clergy, apparently feels that preachers are a privileged class. His parishioners might have a purpose-driven life, but their leader has a loophole-driven life." - Dan Barker "he means it only in its secondary usage. “It’s not about you,” he preaches. It’s all about God. He believes you have no say in your own purpose. “His purpose for your life predates your conception,” Warren confidently informs us, speaking about the specific deity depicted in his holy book. “He planned it before you existed, without your input! You may choose your career, your spouse, your hobbies, and many other parts of your life, but you don’t get to choose your purpose.” Warren is exactly right, if you think the Christian scriptures are true. The New Testament tells Christians that they have no purpose of their own: “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”10 Jesus reportedly said: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”1" - Dan Barker "You are a hammer. A wrench. A pair of pliers. Warren then insults atheists by insisting that those of us who do not hold his beliefs lead empty lives: “Without God, life has no purpose, and without purpose, life has no meaning. Without meaning, life has no significance or hope.”13 What planet is Reverend Warren living on? It seems…he hasn’t met many atheists. He doesn’t know that hundreds of millions of good people do not “begin with God,” do not believe in a god, yet live full meaningful lives. We are not the ones with the problem! We are alive. We think it is sad that so many human beings pretend to have no purpose of their own, that they are so willing to “die to themselves” (as the bible commands), submitting to someone else’s plan for their lives." - Dan Barker "It is directed from outside your own life. “Whatever you do,” Paul also wrote, “do all to the glory of God.”15 Christians are toddlers who simply do what the parent says, “bringing every thought into captivity unto the obedience of Christ.”16 (The next time someone tells you there is freedom in Christ, read that verse to them. Whatever “captivity” is, it is not freedom.) In Christianity, the ultimate purpose is to glorify and worship the master, not to live or enjoy your own life. Even good works—which you would think should be aimed at the recipients of charity—are ultimately focused on the majesty of the heavenly father: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”17 The biblical writers were shameless about this redirection of purpose: “If I was trying to please men,” Paul wrote, “I would not be a slave of Christ." - Dan Barker "What is wrong with this picture? We normally detest a person who claims to own and control other human beings, so why do we think it is admirable when God does it? Because might makes right? Why do we honor that which we naturally despise? If you were a god, would you actually want others to bow down and kiss your feet? And what would the rest of us think of you? If there actually exists a praise-thirsty deity like the bible describes, then why should we worship him? Because he is the big boss and he demands it? Because if you don’t put your hands together and tell him how great he is you will be sent down into the basement? Would you rather watch a movie about loyal captive subjects in the service of their omnipotent master, or a movie about a slave revolt? Which would be more exciting? What characters would you root for and sympathize with? So, why just a movie? Why not make your own life a slave revolt?" - Dan Barker "Asking, “If there is no God, what is the purpose of life?” is like asking, “If there is no Master, whose slave will I be?” If the purpose of life is to become a submissive slave, then your meaning comes from flattering the ego of a person whom you should despise." - Dan Barker "Here is the good news we atheists offer to the world: There is no purpose of life. It may sound counterintuitive, but that is truly great news! Life is its own reward. You should not want there to be a purpose of life. You are not a subject. You don’t have an assignment to live up to. You don’t have a cosmic task to accomplish. You don’t have a duty to fulfill. You are not being managed or judged by an overlord. Unshackled from the chains of a master, you are truly free to live…" - Dan Barker

Ramblings: Svechnikov Injured; Kadri and Thornton Suspended; Looking Back – April 16
There were a pair of suspensions handed down on Monday as Nazem Kadri was suspended for the rest of the series for his cross-check in Game 2 and Joe Thornton was suspended for one game for his hit on Tomas Nosek on Sunday night.
With Kadri out of the lineup, William Nylander lined up as the third line centre between Connor Brown and Patrick Marleau.
*
Carolina took their first game of the series against Washington with a 5-0 win at home in Game 3. The bigger news, however, could end up being the health of rookie star Andrei Svechnikov. The 19-year old challenged Alex Ovechkin to a fight and was promptly knocked out after about three punches. The ‘Canes forward left the game and did not return.
Micheal Ferland also suffered an upper-body injury and did not return.
I imagine Svech will be out for Game 4 at a minimum and it would not surprise me if he missed the rest of the series. That’s just speculation on my part, of course, but it was a devastating knockout.
Dougie Hamilton scored a pair of goals in the win, both coming on the power play. He had six total shots with two blocks, two hits, and two penalty minutes. Why the coaching staff hasn’t moved him to the top PP unit is beyond me.
The Hurricanes utterly dominated the game from start to finish. Sometimes, a score that reads 5-0 can be misleading. This was not one of those cases.
*
Toronto took a 2-1 series lead over Boston with a 3-2 win on Monday night. Auston Matthews got on the board with a goal and an assist while Andreas Johnsson also had a goal and an assist filling in on the top PP unit for the now-suspended Nazem Kadri.
This was a much tamer affair than the game on the weekend but I’m not very interested in talking about officiating.
*
Update on the late games in the morning.
*
Time makes fools of us all. While we do our best to predict what’s going to happen in an NHL season beforehand – that’s the entire premise of fantasy sports – there’s no possible way to get everything right.
I wanted to go back to the preseason to our panel of predictions. (Part 1 here, Part 2 here.) We cover everything from breakouts, to busts, to midseason call-ups, trophy winners, and more. Basically, I want to review where some of the predictions went wrong and what we can learn from this.
Naturally, I’ll start with my own failures.
  Dark Horse – Sam Steel
At the outset of the season, I envisioned a transition year for the Ducks. Guys like Ryan Kesler and Corey Perry would still be productive, but likely on the third or fourth lines, while guys like Steel, Troy Terry, and Max Comtois would step up and lead the next wave of the Ducks core.
That wasn’t entirely the case.
Steel’s first foray in the NHL saw three points and 17 shots on goal through 13 games, averaging under 15 minutes a game. We have to think back to the state of the Ducks in October, though: Ryan Getzlaf missed two weeks due to injury, Ondrej Kase was not in the lineup due to his own injury, and Perry was injured as well. With guys like Rickard Rakell, Jakob Silfverberg, and Andrew Cogliano in the top-6, Steel was playing on the third and fourth line most nights with guys who were either unproven or without a lot of offensive skill. He wasn’t exactly put into a position to succeed, and he, Lundestrom, and Terry were eventually sent down either for the rest of the season, or until after the trade deadline.
In all, the underlying numbers weren’t great for Steel but I wonder how much of that is Anaheim being a disaster most of the season. Those numbers were really bad in October, but after his recall at the end of February, he had very strong shot share numbers for the remaining games he dressed. It really was a tale of two seasons for Steel.
I’ve still a believer in his talent and think he can be a good second-line centre in the NHL. I thought that might start in 2018-19 but clearly he needed another year of to get up to speed. I think my mistake was my own beliefs in a player’s potential clouded what I should have seen as a clear development year.  It’s a mistake I’m certain I’ll make again.
  Midseason Call-Up – Eeli Tolvanen
This was a popular pick amongst the Dobber team, and for good reason. There has been fanfare around Tolvanen basically since the moment he was drafted by the Predators, and likely before that from certain corners of the fantasy community. I mean, he was called up in the spring of 2018. It would make sense he’d be called up sometime this season, right?
Note: I know he was called up in December, but he only lasted four games. I don’t think this is what our writers had in mind when they predicted a midseason recall.
There are two ways of looking at Tolvanen’s season: a disappointment because he was not able to make any significant contributions in NHL, or a solid development season with 33 points in 57 AHL games. That might not seem like a great total but Milwaukee was in the lower half of the league in total goals, nobody on the team cracked 50 points, and Tolvanen led the roster in shots on goal with 152 despite missing 18 games. When provided a bit more context, that’s a good year for a 19-year old. (He turns 20 next week.)
It did surprise me that Tolvanen did not get a longer look in the NHL given the injuries suffered by Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson at different times in the season. Clearly, Nashville felt more development in the AHL was necessary and with their track record at developing talent over the last five years or so, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
To me, this screams value in 2019-20. I imagine that Tolvanen is on the roster out of camp but I also imagine some of the shine has worn off by now. There was a lot of Tolvanen buzz a little over 12 months ago about being a game-changing call-up for the Nashville playoff run. I didn’t see nearly the same fervour going into the 2019 playoffs. Does he fly under the radar this summer and into drafts in September? My money is on yes.
  Probable Bust – Patrick Kane
I understand the thinking here. Following the 2017-18 season, the Blackhawks certainly seemed like a team on the downturn. There had been the breakout of Alex DeBrincat in 2017-18, but Jonathan Toews had three straight years of under 60 points, Brandon Saad was coming off a miserable season, there were other aging players like Keith, Seabrook, and Anisimov, and the team did not make a splash in free agency. Kane himself was coming off his lowest point total (76) in three years and had seen two years of decline post-Panarin. There was every reason to think the Blackhawks would take a dive this year, and Kane’s production would take a dive with them.
Two things changed for Chicago: DeBrincat was better this year than I think even the most ardent DeBrincat supporter could have expected, and Erik Gustafsson came out of nowhere to post 60 points from the blue line. Chicago’s back end looked very thin with an aging core, and Gustafsson really helped solidify it, at least offensively. An additional two minutes of ice time per game for Kane certainly didn’t hurt.
Now, to be fair to those who thought Kane would be a bust, he did have a lot of underlying numbers that were out of line: his individual shooting percentage both at five-on-five and at all strengths was a three-year high, his on-ice shooting percentage at five-on-five was by far a career high, his secondary assist rate was the highest it’s been since 2010-11, and his on-ice shooting percentage on the power play was also a three-year high. It was a rebound, or career year, in many ways for Kane. Not something easily predicted for a 30-year old on what was thought to be a declining team.
An early lesson I learned in fantasy sports is to always bet on talent. Originally, for me, this applied to relief pitchers in fantasy baseball, but it’s very much true in almost any sport; elite talent usually finds a way to be productive almost regardless of circumstance. This certainly isn’t always the case (see: Kopitar, Anze) and I would bet on a modest step back for Kane in 2019-20. All the same, doubting elite talent is a bet I do not often make.
  Sleeper – Antti Raanta
I just want to mention this briefly because I also liked Raanta coming into the year (officially, my pick was Kyle Palmieri) and he had a wonderful season up until the injury issues. Like many people, I wrote off Arizona after the injury, and that was a giant mistake.
Darcy Kuemper had a great year being the starter from basically the middle of December onward. He finished the year with a .925 save percentage, and has a .916 save percentage since becoming an NHL regular in 2013-14, the same rate of saves as Henrik Lundqvist and Jaroslav Halak. Now, his goals saved above average rate since 2013 isn’t very good (read: bad), but after the season he had, he’s going to at least be in the conversation for the starter in Arizona next year.
Sidebar: does anyone realize Kuemper is younger than Raanta?
So here’s the question: which goalie is the sleeper next year? How far does Raanta’s injury and uncertainty surrounding his grip on the starting role push down his ADP? Does Kuemper’s great season and potential push for the top job drive up his ADP? Will these two be drafted in relatively the same tier as, say, Matt Murray and Marc-Andre Fleury were a few years ago? I am fascinated to see where these guys are valued by the market, especially if the Coyotes make some moves this offseason either in the trade or free agency markets. Or both.
Those were a few misses from myself and the Dobber team from before the 2018-19 season. I’m sure those of you reading this had a few. What were some predictions on player performance that went awry this year? Let us know in the comments.

Its my responsibility to but this area is foreign to me, I dont know anything about these laws and everything that goes with it. So I lost out on a non-refundable 60 dollars for no reason. Ok so I'm 17 years old. I have had my license for 5 months. I have never gotten a ticket, been in an accident or pulled over. My parents are buying me a car.. and well I'm a teenage guy so I want a sports car. My parents said I can't have a car with a v8 engine or any kind of GT because it will raise the insurance cost. I found a nissan 300zx online for around 4,500. It isn't a gt, its automatic and its a v6. I told my dad about it and he said no. When I asked why he said because nissans are different and the insurance will be high if I buy that car, but he says its fine if I get a different car make that has a v6. Is what he said true? Will the insurance go higher because its a nissan sports car? (We have gieco)""

NFL Panic Index 2017, Week 10: The Eagles are right on track to lose the Super Bowl
Will the third time be the charm for an Eagles Super Bowl?
The Philadelphia Eagles are feeling it right now. At 8-1, they’re at least two games better than every other team in the NFL. They’ve won seven games in a row. They just pounded the Broncos, lighting up a once-proud defense for 51 points. They look unstoppable.
The Eagles are pretty much guaranteed a spot in the playoffs at this point. Since 1990, every team that has started 8-1 has made it to the postseason.
But they’re setting their sights higher than just than breaking a three-year playoff drought:
The @Eagles are 8-1 for the 5th time in franchise history. The other 4 times, they went to the Super Bowl or NFL Championship game. http://pic.twitter.com/umYO8kxLSe
— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) November 6, 2017
For Eagles fans, this is where the BUT comes in. Yes, both of their trips to the Super Bowl came in seasons when they started 8-1. BUT the Eagles also lost both Super Bowls and haven’t won a championship since 1960. That’s longer than the Browns!
Eagles fans, go watch for this a minute. This next paragraph isn’t for your eyes.
Eagles haters, hey how’s it going? So, I’ve got some bad news. If you thought drunk Eagles fans were hard to take, think about how “drunk with the power of a Super Bowl” Eagles fans would be. Like, you know your mom’s friend Cathy, who never stops bragging about her perrrrrfect daughter? Now imagine Cathy as a guard in the Stanford prison experiment. That’s Eagles fans if they are even on the verge of a Super Bowl appearance. If you even know a friend of a friend whose cousin is an Eagles fan, you may as well fake your death to avoid them for those two weeks between the NFC Championship and Super Bowl LII, because they will be that unbearable.
OK Eagles fans, you can come back now.
So, is this a trend, or will third time be the charm for the Eagles’ dreams of finally winning a Super Bowl?
Panic index: No team is punching its ticket to the NFL’s biggest game in November. Around the same time last year, we were wondering the same thing about a one-loss Cowboys team. They didn’t get a chance to lose the Super Bowl because they didn’t win a single playoff game. Just let the season play out first.
The 49ers’ playoff hopes could be over historically early
I mean, this one is obvious, right? But they could actually be eliminated in Week 10! It would make them the first team eliminated with seven weeks to go in 50 years.
TIEBREAKERS: SF will be eliminated from playoff contention w/ loss this wk (NYG); would be earliest elim (7 wks to play) since DEN in 1967!
— Joe Ferreira (@JoeNFL) November 7, 2017
The 49ers made a splash in trading for Jimmy Garoppolo, but Kyle Shanahan doesn’t seem to be in a rush to get him in there. When you see that the team is essentially eliminated from playoff contention already, it’s hard to blame him.
They’ll take their No. 1 or No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, prepare Garoppolo for next season, and keep things moving. Anything else would be a waste.
Panic index: Whether or not this happens this week, the 49ers can put the nails in the coffin on the 2017 season. It’s not the worst thing in the world, if you’re a fan.
Julio, are you OK man?
Julio Jones had the drop of all drops this past Sunday against the Panthers.
With the Falcons down 10, Jones dropped a dime from Matt Ryan, with nobody around Jones. It seemed like a sure thing as the ball was in the air, and he made his way to the 15-, 10-, and 5-yard lines. But it wasn’t.
Luke Kuechly thinks that a hex on Jones caused the drop.
“I think the fans had a little impact on that. They put some juju on him or something,” Kuechly said jokingly, via NFL.com. “He's a great player, and that doesn't happen a lot. So maybe the fans put a hex on him, cast a spell.”
It was a rarity for Jones:
Julio Jones dropped what would have been a 39-yard touchdown on 4th-and-7, the first time he's dropped a pass in the end zone since 2012.
— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) November 5, 2017
Panic index: The drop was bad, and the Falcons’ offense continues to struggle. Individually, Jones will be fine. The Falcons collectively? Well ...
Bill Belichick must not be watching the 2017 Broncos
The Patriots will visit the Broncos this week, and Bill Belichick is preparing his defense for this high-powered, dynamic Denver offense. Wait, what?
Bill Belichick on the Broncos offense: "Offensively they’re very explosive."
— Nora Princiotti (@NoraPrinciotti) November 6, 2017
“Explosive” is not a word we would use to describe this offense.
Let’s loosely define an explosive play as a gain of at least 12 yards on a run and 16 yards on a pass. We wouldn’t look at the Broncos’ per-play average of 4.9 yards and think, man, that’s one explosive offense. But then again, we’re not Bill Belichick.
The Broncos do have offensive talent capable of burning defenses with big plays, particularly Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. But they’ve got Brock Osweiler throwing them the ball right now. He’s averaging 5.4 yards per completion this season, and averages just 6 yards per catch over his career.
Panic index: Maybe Belichick is just being polite, though that’s not typically a huge priority for him. Or more likely, he doesn’t want his defense — which struggled mightily against the pass early in the season — to overlook even the Broncos offense. Any given Sunday, and all that.
Though, to be fair, “explosive” is also an adjective often paired with diarrhea, so ...
It’ll be almost impossible for the Buccaneers to get on track
It’s Week 10, and the Buccaneers are 2-6. Mike Evans sees the writing on the wall.
#Bucs WR Mike Evans: “We are very bad. We are too talented to be 2-6. We are in a bad spot and have to come together. Time is running out.”
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 5, 2017
Tampa Bay was crowned an offseason winner after adding DeSean Jackson and O.J. Howard. And fans fell in love with Gerald McCoy and Chris Godwin on Hard Knocks. This team was expected to contend for the NFC South and maybe even have a shot at a Super Bowl. That does not appear to be in the cards.
So what happened? Despite all that talent, the offense is averaging just 19.8 points per game. It’s partly because the defense can’t get off the field. They’re ranked 29th in the league after allowing opponents to convert 55 third downs this season. They can’t get any pressure on quarterbacks, and they’re ranked dead last in the league with just eight sacks on the season.
And there’s not much reason to hope the Bucs can turn it around, at least not this week. The team is sidelining Jameis Winston for at least two weeks until the sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder fully heals. And Evans will be out this week serving a suspension for blindsiding Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore after he had a sideline altercation with Winston during the Bucs’ loss to the Saints on Sunday.
This isn’t the first time Evans has lamented the state of the Buccaneers. He said essentially the same thing after the team fell to 2-5 with a 17-3 loss to the Panthers.
“I wish I knew why we weren’t starting fast and finishing fast,” Evans said via Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. “I don’t know what it is. Like I said before the season, on paper we are an amazing team, but we’re just not as good as we thought we were, so we’ve just got to pick it up. The good thing about it [is] we have nine games left.”
Panic index: Now the Bucs just have eight games left, and Evans will miss one of them. Winston will miss even more. And this is looking like a lost season for Tampa Bay.
Ben McAdoo might not have much time to save his job
McAdoo denied claims his team had quit in Week 9’s 51-17 home loss to the Rams, but ... c’mon. New York played disinterested defense as Los Angeles rolled all over them, playing with all the intensity of a smoking break in the second half.
After the game, he told the press no one’s position was safe from the shakeup that would mark the Giants’ second half, even Eli Manning. The only problem is there’s not enough talent on the NY roster to gain anything from benchings. The offense has been ravaged by injuries, and Orleans Darkwa has risen to the top of the team’s finest new tradition; a rotation of utterly frustrating and underwhelming tailbacks.
Things are even more grim on the defensive side, where a once-fearsome pass rush is now just Jason Pierre-Paul and a bunch of cardboard cutouts. New York’s inability to rush the passer has weakened what should be an upper-tier secondary. The Giants are allowing opposing QBs to post a 101.0 passer rating this fall; that figure was just 78.7 — second in the league — in 2016.
The wheels have fallen off, and even if McAdoo wants to take a drastic step in a Hail Mary attempt to fix things, his options look grim. Behind an ineffective Manning lies Geno Smith — a quarterback who couldn’t win a starting role with the dumpster-fire Jets — and rookie Davis Webb, who has yet to be activated for an NFL game in his pro career.
Panic index: Better start packing that hair gel and your array of mustache combs, Ben.

Chapter 5
Killian was still reeling from his conversation with the king even after Emma pulled him out of the room and into one of the long hallways of the castle. The past few hours had been overwhelming to say the least. Barely twelve hours had passed since he and Emma whisked away into the night, and since then he had been married, enjoyed a thoroughly pleasing wedding night, been rushed from his marriage bed by his wife's brother, thrown in the dungeons, and then had his bride's father -- the king -- attempt to buy him off. Killian was honestly shocked he was still standing, and credited much of that feat to the adrenaline still coursing through his veins.  Killian was relived to be freed from her father's interrogation. He was growing increasingly incensed by the king's accusations. Had he been in there too much longer and continued to have his honor and devotion to Emma questioned, Killian might very have done or said something he might regret. It was imperative that he remain calm in the presence of the king, especially now that he knew how the man perceived him.
Distracted and overwhelmed as he was, Killian completely missed the fact that Emma was talking him until she took him by the shoulder and shook him. "Are you okay? I've been asking what happened with my father."
He opened his mouth to respond, but promptly closed it. He wasn't sure how to proceed with Emma. He didn't want to drive a wedge further between her and her family. He could lie, distort the truth of the matter, but that was hardly a way for one to start a marriage. Besides, Emma was quite adept at seeing through lies and mistruths. She would surely call his bluff.
Killian already felt himself sagging under the weight of the daunting task before him. Winning over her parents would be difficult, and, at the moment, it seemed impossible. He knew he and Emma would have to present a united front, King David's opinion of him seemed set in stone. If he was half as stubborn as Emma, well, Killian may never win his approval.
"I don't think your father likes me very much," Killian finally confessed. Though his statement didn't quite encompass just how much her father appeared to dislike him, it was still the truth.
"Well, we can work on that," Emma replied before biting her lip in thought. She began to pace down the hallway, her fingers clasped together. "While she's not happy, I think we have my mother on our side."
Killian peeked up at that. "Your mother? Really?"
A brilliant smile crossed Emma's face, belying the noncommittal shrug she gave. "She believes in the power of True Love."
"She thinks our love to be true?" Killian asked, once again approaching Emma. He grabbed her hands, twining their fingers together. It felt right to once again have her in his arms, to feel the press of his mother's ring against his skin.
"Unfortunately not, or rather not yet," Emma replied, frowning slightly, "but she believes her love for me to be true, and that is enough for her to trust me."
Killian considered that to be as good as he was going to get at this point. He knew the sway a woman could hold over a man, and if Queen Snow was anything like her daughter, it was only a matter of time before the king could see things their way. Hope, which had left him in the castle's dungeon, began to once again surge through him.
Then, Killian remembered the dungeon -- and his brother.
"Liam," he gasped suddenly. His brother had also been arrested, assumed to be in on the plot to "kidnap" the princess.
Emma, who wasn't privy to this knowledge, eyed him with mirth dancing in her pretty green eyes. "Your brother? I suppose we'll have to tell him now. Hopefully he won't be too upset with us."
Guilt coursed through his veins at Emma's words and worry pricked at him. Emma looked quite excited to reveal their relationship to Liam. How could he tell her that his brother already knew, and was quite upset about their nuptials. But Liam's feelings on the matter hardly mattered at the moment, not while there were more pressing issues, namely his imprisonment.
"We have to let him out now," Killian insisted, urging Emma down the hallway through which the guards had led him. "He shouldn't be down there."
"Down where? Killian, wha--"
"Liam is in the dungeon because of us!" His words came out in a half-shout, and Killian felt instant remorse at the way he had snapped at Emma, his bride. She clearly didn't know of Liam's predicament, blissfully unaware that they were the cause. "He was imprisoned because they thought he was in on the plan to kidnap you."
"But I wasn't kidnapped."
"Your family didn't know that," Killian reminded her.
Emma opened her mouth as if to argue, but seemed to think better of it. She brows were knitted in worry, but she was making no effort to move. Killian had half a mind to run down to the dungeon himself to free Liam. He didn't want his brother to stay down than any longer. No innocent man should, but especially not Liam.
"It's not going to be as easy as just letting him out, you know," Emma finally said.
Killian startled, dumbfounded at Emma's statement. "We can't just leave him down there."
"I'm not saying that," Emma snapped, clearly offended by his insinuation. "We're going to free him, we will, but I just want you aware that it won't be as simple after. That's all."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Killian asked. He was frustrated by Emma's hesitance. She had a brother, one she claimed to care about deeply. She should understand his desire to hurry and go now.
"I'm saying that your brother has been arrested. Once we free him, he can't just go back to his ship. He needs to be cleared, things need to be made official. We can't just go raising hell," Emma argued.
Killian scoffed. "You're the princess. Can't you just automatically pardon him?"
"First of all, there is a decorum and process about these things. We can't just 'automatically pardon him'." Emma sounded exasperated at her own explanation.
"But he did nothing wrong!"
"We know that. We will just have to convince everyone else of that, and that means ensuring my parents are happy and the admiral is happy and--"
"Emma, it's my brother," he pleaded. The methodical way Emma spoke of the situation hurt. His brother wasn't just another obstacle to pass. He was Liam. He loved his brother dearly. And while Emma might not feel the same way to Liam, they were family now.
He recalled his earlier annoyance when he discovered that she'd revealed their plans to her own brother. It had felt something like betrayal. Though Emma had explained that she only told Leo as a means for escape, Killian was still hurt that for a period, her brother knew while his own did not. It didn't feel fair, especially considering everything Liam had sacrificed for him. Is this how things were going to be going forward?
Emma, to her credit, appeared to be feeling guilty at his pleading. She reached out to him, but he pulled away in frustration, a look of hurt crossed her face, and Killian regretted his actions immediately. They hadn't been married for a full day, and now they were already arguing and hurting one another. They were hurting everyone, it seemed.
"Gods, we made a mess of things, didn't we?" He asked her, moving to lean against one of the castle walls for support. The large castle already felt suffocating, their actions weighing heavy on him. "Liam, your parents, one another."
Emma looked stricken at his confession. In a small voice, she asked, "You don't regret it, do you?"
By it, he knew she didn't mean their elopement. She was asking about more than that -- their marriage, courtship, her. He wanted to laugh, because it was such an absurd question. Despite his remorse for them hurting their loved ones, he was blackguard enough to do it all again. What kind of monster was he that knew the ramifications of his actions, yet still desired to do it all again, all to sate his selfish wants.
"No, love," he said, rising from against the wall and crossing over to her, "nothing could make me regret you."
He made sure to kiss her then, to seal his words with his lips just as they had done with their vows the night prior. It was a simple and chaste thing, could be nothing more the way they were standing in the hallway. Surely a guard or servant would stumble by any minute and ruin the moment, but Killian still felt the need to kiss her, to mold his lips against hers.
When they broke away, he tipped up her chin and stared meaningfully at her. "Don't ever doubt that every moment of the day that I'm beyond elated to be yours. Nothing could change that."
She nodded, and Killian thought he could detect the hint of tears in her eyes. She did not let them flow freely, by instead she steeled herself and gripped at his shoulders. "So, should we go rescue Liam then?"
It was an apology, an olive branch, a sign that she had been listening to him, despite her reservations.
He nodded emphatically. "Aye, love, let's go."
They made their way through the maze of the castle toward where the entrances to the dungeons were located. The guards stationed on the top of the stairwell leading down eyed him carefully, but Emma's presence by his side kept them from saying anything. They wouldn't speak poorly of their princess' guest, no matter what they said in private.
It was then that Killian began to consider what Emma had been saying about Liam, and by proxy, him. Killian did not know the method by which Liam was arrested, if it was public or if he had been stolen away in the dark of the night. If any of their fellow sailors did see, or even a particularly nasty gossip, word would spread and Liam's reputation would be tarnished, no matter what the king or Admiral Woodhull claimed. Returning one's reputation to a respected status after it had been tarnished was an incredibly difficult task.
Killian's own reputation wasn't gleaming, at least among the royals. Emma's family already looked at him with distrust, and her father saw him as nothing more than a man out for gold. Her mother might have faith in True Love, but Emma had been quick to not give him false hope in where he lay in her affections. The only member of Emma's family who showed him any fondness aside from Emma herself was Leo.
He cringed thinking about his own brother's feelings toward Emma. They weren't positive. Though Liam had always spoken highly of the princess before, it was always in a way that a sailor may refer to his sovereign. There was no true affection present. How could there be? Liam hardly knew her, not that he ever had the chance. Ever since the truth of Killian's relationship with her had come out, and Liam paid the price, Killian doubted his brother would be the same. His words down in the dungeon's cell had been evidence enough of that fact.
Maybe his and Emma's families were right-- maybe they both were too blinded by love to see just how they could hurt their other loved ones. Killian shoved that thought to the back of his mind. There was no use dwelling on that thought. What's done was done. Emma was his wife, and eventually their families would come around.
Hopefully.
But for things to improve, they would first have to free Liam, and ensure his life wouldn't be too torn asunder because of their nuptials. But despite the urgency, he paused in the stairwell. Emma had raced down multiple steps before she registered his lack of movement.
"What?" she asked, perplexed.
Feeling that he should be completely honest with his bride -- they were all one another had in this situation, it seemed -- Killian took a deep breath. "He's not happy, Liam."
"About being imprisoned? I should hope not," Emma replied. Her reply was so innocent, and Killian wanted to laugh.
"No, love, about us." Liam's statements about Emma replayed in his mind, making Killian wince. "He's not pleased with the situation."
Emma frowned. " The secrecy or..."
"It'll be okay, darling, he'll come around. They all will," Killian told her, realized his words of assurance were just as much for him as they were for her. He kissed her softly, taking comfort in the press of his lips to hers. They could prove to their families their love for one another. Surely they would.
Guards were stationed outside the dungeon, and they appeared shocked by the presence of Emma. It was quickly apparent that she had rarely visited this place, judging from the way they eyed her warily. Of course, their nervousness might have also been in response to his presence by her, and the unsubtle way she had entwined their hands when they had approached.
"Give me the key to Captain Liam Jones' cell," Emma demanded. There was a hint of authority to her voice, one that demanded obedience. She reached out her hand, palm upwards and quirked an eyebrow, daring them to disobey. As expected, they did not.
Killian was not prepared for the sight of his brother in the cell. It was one thing being imprisoned with him, but it was another to see him alone.
Killian held back the bile quickly rising in his throat.
For all his life, Liam had been his hero. In many ways, Killian credited the fact that he was alive to this day to his brother. After their father had abandoned them and sold them into slavery, Liam had done everything in how power to protect Killian, whether Killian felt he deserved it or not.  Now the roles are reversed, it seemed, with Killian having to protect his own elder brother from mistakes that weren't his own.
Killian felt no better than his father. He tightened his grip on Emma's hand.
They approached the cell, but Liam did not acknowledge their movements. He was sitting against the wall, his face buried in his hands.
"Liam," Killian called, banging against the bars of the cell to get his attention. "Liam, it's us. We're here to get you out."
Finally, Liam lifted his head, his eyes widening is recognition. His expression turned darker when he noticed Emma by Killian's side, the key in hand. She did not shrink from Liam's scrutiny. Instead, she stood s little straighter, and lifted the key. "We're here to get you out. You don't have to come with us, but I can't see why you would want to stay down here. The castle upstairs is cleaner and far less musty."
Emma jangled the keys for emphasis.
"By all means, Princess," he said, giving a curt nod. Killian watched as his brother pulled himself to his feet. Despite Liam's unhappiness with the situation, he still carried himself proudly as walked toward the cell door.
“Princess, are you certain this is what you want?” one of the guards called out, his hand on the hilt of the sword. He had been watching the proceedings. Killian tried to not feel too annoyed by the guard’s questioning – after all, the man was attempting to protect his sovereign, no matter how wrong he was – but it didn’t keep him from balling his hands into fist and biting his tongue to prevent a smart remark from coming it.
“Yes, Gerald, I’m sure,” Emma replied, her voice holding the same hint of authority as before. There was a sweetness to it, one Killian thought Emma had been trained to use. His wife then turned back to the cell door, unlocking it quickly, and allowing Liam to go free.
“Thank you, Princess.” The curtness was still there, and Liam looked toward Emma with no sense of dereference. It was clear to Killian that his brother was angry. What outlet he would use for that anger, Killian did not know.
Killian knew, however, that he needed to talk to his brother, but it couldn’t be here. Guards were standing by, still holding the swords as if they expected the brothers to attack the Crown Princess at any moment. Emma seemed to be thinking the same thing, because she suddenly announced, “I don’t know about you two, but I’m starving. Why don’t we go upstairs to the kitchens to get something to snack on?”
“Sounds like a grand plan, love.” Killian nodded to his wife. Even without conversing they made quite the team “What say you, brother?”
Liam glanced between Emma and Killian, clearly trying to work out if the invitation was just that, an invitation. He seemed to come to the conclusion that it wasn’t that, but rather an order, and plastered on a smile that Killian instantly recognized as fake.
“Lead the way.”

Ever since Killian Jones had waltzed into her life, Emma had held a sort of odd fascination for his brother, Liam. While some might consider it strange for a woman to be enthralled by her lover’s brother, Emma considered him in only the most academic of terms. Liam, to her, was an idea less than a man, god-like if she were to take Killian’s assessments of his older brother into consideration. Due to the nature of her and Killian’s relationship, Emma had never really gotten the chance to interact with the elder Jones, so he became a sort of mythical creature in her mind.
Killian’s dynamic with his brother was incredibly foreign to her. She had a brother of her own, one she dearly loved, but Emma knew that Leo would never speak of her the way Killian spoke of Liam. The one fault of Liam that Killian had expressed to her was his protectiveness, and the way he talked reminded her more of how she would complain about her parents than her brother would speak of her.
What she knew of him, she had learned from Killian, and her husband was hardly an unbiased source. Understandable, given the circumstances of his and the role his brother had played in it. Emma didn’t know everything about Killian’s past, but he had told her enough for her to feel great sympathy for him. His father had sold both him and Liam into slavery when Killian was a young boy, and he’d stayed a slave for years before escaping with his brother and joining the Royal Navy. Liam’s presence had been a lifeline for Killian, and Killian had told her many times that he would have died or turned to piracy without his brother’s influence.
Because of Killian’s reverence, Emma had always wanted to learn more about Liam, and not second hand. She’d been looking forward to their relationship coming to light so she could get a chance to speak with the man face-to-face, to thank him for practically raising the man she so dearly loved. Except, according to Killian, that man now thought incredibly poorly of her. Judging by the harsh expressions Liam was throwing her way coupled with the brusque tone in his voice whenever he addressed her, it was obvious that Killian wasn’t far from the mark.
Everything was such a mess.
She comforted herself with the knowledge that she had convinced her mother to support her decision. It was a tenuous alliance at best, but an alliance all the same. She trusted her mother to win over her father’s blessing, and to put this whole ordeal behind them, allowing her and Killian to relax into wedded bliss. Emma doubted things would be that easy, especially after everything that had occurred that morning, but it was a pretty thought, one she could hold onto at moments like these. She had her mother and brother, and she had Killian. Her father and Liam would come along, wouldn’t they?
Truthfully, she was most concerned with Liam’s acceptance. Her father was a stubborn man, but he loved her dearly. They’d always shared a special sort of bond, and her mother and Aunt Red used to remark how she had him wrapped around her tiniest finger, to which her father would respond that he was proud to be. Of course, the situations in which she could break her father’s resolve often involved additional sugary treats, extra rides around the castle, and nights staying up listening to stories before bed. Marriage was a different matter, but between her and her mother, he would surely come around.
Liam was a different matter, however. His and Killian’s bond was forged in fire, half-parental and half-fraternal. Liam had been Killian’s protector for so long that it was sure to be difficult allowing him to lead his own life, and Emma had been one of the driving forces in the biggest decision of Killian’s life, one which Liam was not privy to. The whole affair had to be a shock and source of resentment which Liam had never felt before.
Still, Emma did not enjoy being disliked. She was not naïve enough to believe that everyone who encountered her would adore her, but she hoped the brother of the man she loved would find her a fine match. At the very least, she had hoped that Liam would recognize how much Killian loved her, and would find that sufficient enough reason to like her. But no, that was not Liam Jones’ mode of operation when it came to others. This was going to be much more difficult than Emma thought. Thankfully, she had never shied away from a challenge before, especially when the prize was so valuable.
There was a small, paranoid part of her that worried that somehow Liam’s distaste of her would drive a wedge between her and Killian. She’d experienced hints of that fear earlier in the hallway, with Killian’s panic at rescuing his brother from the dungeons overriding anything she said on the matter. Emma didn’t want Liam to be the subject of any more of her and Killian’s disagreements. Killian loved his brother dearly, and she was afraid of making him choose between the two of them. Liam was Killian’s hero. Killian worshiped the ground he walked on. What would happen if he didn’t think her to be an adequate bride?
It was silly. Truly. Killian loved her and he promised that nothing would ever change his feelings toward her. He was telling the truth when he was telling her those things. Besides, he had chosen her when they decided to run away to elope. But having his brother hate his wife could very well take an emotional toll on Killian for which he wasn’t prepared, and that was something Emma did not wish to see happen. She would simply have to make Liam like her, not only for her sake, but for Killian’s as well.
This was already proving to be a difficult task, however.
They were currently seated in the castle’s dining area, eating breads and cheeses Emma had scavenged from the kitchens. Emma had considered requesting foods with more substance, but she shirked under the curious gazes of the kitchen staff. It was obvious that the gossip had spread through the castle like wildfire, and Emma was quickly becoming annoyed by the whole thing. She could deal with the scrutiny from her parents, but she hated the whispers of the servants and guards, judging her and Killian. Emma wondered when, if ever, they would stop.
They’d have to someday. Killian was here to stay, and soon enough she’d have the support of both her parents. Once that came to pass, both she and Killian could relax in their marriage. There would someday be children, and eventually, she would become Queen, with him being her Prince Consort. Even Emma knew he’d never be allowed to be or accepted as King, but he’d still be by her side.
But until then, Emma realized she had to be patient. Too bad patience was a never a virtue of hers. She supposed that was why she was prattling on to Liam and Killian about her favorite pastries. It wasn’t a particularly intelligent conversation, but it was better than sitting in complete silence with Liam glaring and Killian looking so forlorn.
“Oh, you will have to try the cinnamon rolls that Remy – he’s our head chef – makes. They’re to die for.”
“A little hyperbolic, don’t you think?” Liam asked. Killian shot his brother a glare as Emma deflated.
“I’m looking forward to trying them soon, Emma,” Killian told her. He reached out to grab her hand, and a surge of affection for her husband. Liam, however, did not feel the same way toward Killian as she, and he continued to frown throughout the exchange.
“I wouldn’t get my hopes too high, Killian,” he warned. He tapped his fingers on the table, a habit Emma recognized as one similar to those Killian exhibited. Both brothers seemingly grew fidgety when agitated. Emma wished that she were not the object of that agitation. “After all, you don’t know when you’ll end up in the dungeons again. I’m sure dear Remy,” Liam spat the chef’s name with disdain, “wouldn’t be sending you any pastries. Or maybe he might. They are, as Emma said, to die for.”
“Excuse me!”
Emma cheeks were flushed with anger at Liam’s accusations. How dare he imply that Killian would once again be going to the dungeons. He would not. She wouldn’t allow it. She wouldn’t have allowed it the first time, had she known. Once everything died down, she was going to have a word with her father about his unkind treatment of Killian. Killian didn’t deserve his treatment from her family, and she didn’t deserve anything from Liam either. Killian’s brother or not, he would not speak to her that way.
“Killian will not be going to the dungeons again,” Emma announced, trying very hard to maintain her composure despite feeling like screaming. That was not how royalty behaved, and she was a princess, damn it. “It was a mistake he was there the first time, and I will see to it that nothing of the sort happens again. So, there’s nothing to worry about.”
“Considering mine and my brother’s imprisonment wasn’t the only mistake made recently, I’d say there’s plenty to worry about, Your Highness.” Liam crossed his arms over his chest. Despite referring to her as royalty, his words were full of venom. That was not how one was to address royalty, let alone family.
Speaking of family, Emma glanced to Killian. He wasn’t looking at her, but rather his brother, wearing an expression that was sad mixture of hurt and betrayal. He had thankfully yet to let go of her hand, but he wasn’t speaking either. It was strange because Killian was usually quite talkative, almost to a fault, but now he was silent. Emma thought back to her earlier fears of Liam driving a wedge between them. She squeezed his hand tighter in reassurance. Whether it was for him or for her, she did not know.
“I think you’re the one who is being hyperbolic now, Liam,” Emma said finally. She straightened in her chair, her meal forgotten. She had quickly lost her appetite.
“Am I?” Liam asked. “Because the way I see it, since running away with you, both my brother and I have ended up in the dungeons. We both have been manhandled by guards, because you thought it would be fun to play around with someone below you. What happens the next time you are bored, Princess? Will he end up in the gallows?”
Emma recoiled as if she had been slapped. “How dare you?” she gasped. “How could you possibly believe—I just—how can you sit there and accuse me of such frivolity and mindlessness. I love him!”
Liam laughed, the sound hollow and mocking. “Is that what you tell yourself to feel better about what you’re putting my brother through?”
“ENOUGH!”
Both Liam and Emma jumped at Killian’s shout. To Emma’s dismay, he untangled his hand from hers, leaving her feeling cold and bereft. She felt like she was about to cry, the tiny pinpricks of tears stinging at the corners of her eyes, but she swore she would not cry. She would not give Liam that satisfaction. Not now. Not after all the cruel things he said to her. Liam, however, seemed hell-bent on further wringing a reaction from her, dismissing Killian’s shout and barreling on.
“Brother, I’m only saying things for your own good. I know you think you love her, but—“
“I do love her,” Killian cut in, agitated. “It’s not think, I know.”
Emma felt a wave of gratitude toward Killian. He was sticking up for them, not just toward her father, but to her brother, as well. “We both love one another,” she announced, feeling the need to further stand by her husband.
“You think you love one another.”
“I think you’re stepping out of line, brother.” Killian’s voice was full grit, and Emma watched as he balled his fists against the table. This was not going how she had hoped.
Whatever Liam was about to say next, however, was interrupted when her parents swept into the room – another unexpected development. Liam hastily stood in deference to the king and queen, as was expected, but Emma and Killian stayed rooted in place. Nervousness knotted in Emma’s belly. She wasn’t prepared for the day to get any worse. While she believed she had her mother’s full support, and she trusted the woman’s sway over her father, Emma’s interactions spoke to her cynical side, and she worried she had misjudged everyone.
“Oh good, we found you.” Her mother smiled brightly. After Queen Snow’s show earlier that morning, Emma doubted her mother’s sincerity. Her mother glanced over to Liam. “I see you’ve picked up a friend.”
“Captain Liam Jones, Your Majesty.” Liam bowed. At least he was being polite to her mother. “Killian – Lieutenant Jones – is my little brother.”
From beside her, Emma could hear Killian murmur “younger,” and she had to stifle a giggle. Now would not be the time to laugh. Her parents exchanged glances, and Emma wondered how much her mother knew of Liam’s imprisonment. Liam was innocent in the whole affair, and her mother had a strict sense of justice. Surely she would be upset. Then again, she thought the same of her father and look at what he put Killian through.
“It is lovely to once again make your acquaintance, Captain Jones,” the queen replied kindly. “It seems our families will be seeing more of one another now considering the news.”
“I—uh—I suppose.”
“Yes, well, one of the best parts of a marriage is two families coming together,” her father said, the frown on his face belying his words.
Emma’s heart pounded wildly in her chest as she listened to the exchange before her. Was she imagining the words she was hearing? Were her parents truly talking about her marriage to Killian with acceptance?
Liam looked shocked by her parents’ pronouncement. Was he looking for an ally in the king and queen? At least Liam knew to treat them with more deference than her. Why did Killian have to be related to him?
“Anyway,” her father began, looking deeply uncomfortable but resigned to reality, “Killian, if you’ll come with me, we have a few matters to attend to.”
“You’re not going to try and pay him off again, are you?” Emma snapped.
Her father flushed at her suggestion, and shook his head. “Ah, no, we have things to discuss with Admiral Woodhull. Captain Jones, you can join us, if you wish. I imagine you’ll be wanting to speak to the Admiral, as well.”
“I would appreciate that, Your Highness,” Liam said, looking grateful.
Emma, on the other hand, wasn’t grateful. She had taken Killian’s hand in her own, gripping tightly. She didn’t really wish to see Killian go with her father and leave her again. Bad things seemed to happen when they were separated. He disagreed, however, and extricated himself from her grip.
“I’ll be fine, love,” he told her, grinning widely. In a low voice, he added, “Besides, it will give me a chance to speak more with my brother.” He kissed her on the cheek before rising, a bold move in front of her family.
Her father had turned her away at this. He obviously wasn’t dealing well with the whole thing. Emma wondered if he would ever fully accept them. She hoped he did.
“Am I to get my husband back after his meeting with the Admiral?” Emma asked. Killian might think the meeting could be something good, but she was still wary.
“We’ll all plan to have an early dinner tonight as a family to discuss things going forward,” Snow explained. Her tone told Emma to accept this and not fight. For once, Emma relented.
“I’ll see you soon, darling,” Killian promised.
As she watched him leave with her father and his brother, Emma prayed he would keep that promise.

Mock Draft 2.0
The NFL season is almost over as sad as that is it makes me super happy that the draft is slowly approaching. I feel while doing this mock the hardest part comes in the final 12 picks. Free agency will definitely help clear up some questions that are up in the air as to what will teams draft in the first round. 1. Browns: Myles Garrett - DE Texas A&M -Browns need help all over. Garrett is the highest rated player in the draft. They have also expressed interest in trading with the Patriots for there backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Meaning they probably have no interest in taking a QB at 1. 2. 49er's: DeShone Kizer - QB Notre Dame -Niners have a new GM and Head coach. Meaning they are going to want to bring in their own quarterback. As to which quarterback will go number one? That question still remains right now. I have Kizer at 1 but Trubisky is still in the mix. 3. Bears: Jonathan Allen - DE/DT Alabama - the Bears are another team that could use a quarterback but rumors have they could trade for Romo or bring in another vet. Allen could be argued as the best prospect in this draft with Garrett. He would make that bears D-line stacked. 4. Jags: Soloman Thomas - DE Stanford - Solomon was argued as a top-10 prospect but after his bowl game where he looked unblockable his stock has rose even more. There is no offensive tackle here the Jacksonville Jaguars could take. They could also use help getting pressure on the quarterback and Thomas could be that guy. 5. Titans: Jamal Adams - S LSU - The top Safety is still between Adams and Hooker. Titans have a big need in there secondary and Adams could be a huge addition to boosting that defense on a young and upcoming team. 6. Jets: Leonard Fournette - RB LSU - though I feel this is a smoke screen by the Jets they have claimed Hackenberg has made tremendous strides as a quarterback. If this is true what they are saying and have recently shot down the idea that they like trubisky they could go with what is considered the best prospect on the board and would feel huge need at running back with fournette who is being compared to the likes of an Adrian Peterson. 7. Chargers: Malik Hooker - S Ohio State - we really just found out hooker is Out 3 to 5 months due to multiple surgeries but is in no danger of missing time as rookie on the field but will not be able to test at the combine or pro day. Hooker could definitely drop because of this but his play on tape has shown he is a ball Hawk and a playmaker and has been compared to Ed Reed. He could still warrent a top 10 pick and the chargers could use a safety since they haven't replaced Weedle. 8. Panthers: Marlon Humphrey - CB Alabama - Panthers still could use a corner to replace the hole left by Josh Norman. Humphrey could be that guy to replace the void in this deep corner class. 9. Bengals: Derek Bennett -DE Tennessee - Between this and the Saints pick at 11, I can easily see the 2 prospects flipped. Both fill nees and are highly rated prospects. Michael Johnson struggled for them at DE and need better talent to pressure the QBs in the physical AFC North. 10. Bills: Mitch Trubisky - QB. North Carolina - Bills need a QB and its obvious. There is talk they could go after Romo but that's a short term bandaid over there pressing need of a franchise QB. Trubisky has a lot to like about him and could be an easy option for the Bills at 10. 11. Saints: Reuben Foster - ILB Alabama -Saint's need help on Defense and Foster is consider a top 10 prospects. Like I said I could see foster gone at 9 as well. Foster is the best linebacker in the draft and something the saints could use. 12. Browns: Marshon Lattimore -CB Ohio State - Browns could go QB here, with Watson on the board. (Though I don't believe he goes or should go till at least 2nd round). Browns have a huge need everywhere and that includes corner. They have drafted corner early and it keeps failing but why not try again? 13. Cardinals: Mike Williams - WR. Clemson -Larry Fitzgerald has said hes coming back for 2017, but he is aging and the others behind him are not as elite as the likes of Williams. Williams is a talent being compared to Andre Johnson. He can pair up and learn from Fitz in his final year and become the teams new #1 threat. 14. Colts: Dalvin Cook - RB. Florida State - Colts need to address the O Line and keep luck healthy. They could take Cam Robinson here and it be smart but with Gore getting older and a chance to add a potential stud RB could make there mouth water. We have seen them pass on the logical choice of the Oline early for weapons. 15. Eagles: Quincy Wilson - CB. Florida - Eagles have a need at corner and Wilson was the best corner in college last year. Still raw he shows a lot of promise to be a stud. With Williams and both RBs gone, corner makes perfect scense and is a huge need. 16. Ravens: Cam Robinson: OT Alabama - Ozzie loves Bama product's and with Wagner becoming a Free Agent. Ravens will look to address the O Line in the first round, 2 years in a row. 17. Redskins: Julius Peppers -S/LB. Michigan - Washington has big needs at the inside on defense. DT, ILB and Safety. They have rumored to want to peruse Bennie Logan at DT this off-season. Peppers is a Saftey/linebacker hybrid and can fill in where ever Washington feels best for the team and fills a need. 18. Titans: Corey Davis - WR. Western Michigan - Titans have a few options at 18. They already grabbed there safety earlier in the draft and could follow that up with a corner here, but corner is deep this year and they can grab a talented one 2nd round. There other big need is a weapon Mariota. Davis is a stud at WR and could be that weapon at wide out they need. 19. Buccaneers: Chris Wormley - DE/DT Michigan - Bucs face some talented QBs in there division and need some help on the DLine next to McCoy. 20. Broncos: Ryan Ramcyzk -OT Wisconsin - Broncos have a huge need at Right Tackle and Ramcyzk is a hard nose football player and excellent tackle. Downside is he is having off-season hip surgery and might now participate at the combine and pro day, but is to talented to not go first round. 21. Lions: Caleb Brantley - DT Florida - Lions are still weak on there interior DLine and has been since they lost Suh and Fairly, Brantly could be the next guy to try to fill that void. 22. Dolphins: Zach Cunningham -LB Vanderbilt - This was a tough choice, dolphins have needs at LB and DE. Cunningham could easily go earlier in draft and I can't have him slip any further. Dolphins have a huge need at linebacker and Cunningham is athletic and could be a great piece for this team. 23. Giants: OJ Howard - TE. ALABAMA - giants have a lot of needs as well and if they do not resign JPP, this pick could change to a pass rusher. Howard has solidified himself as a 1st round talent. Giants don't have much of a great at TE and gives Eli another option on offense. 24. Raiders: Garrett Bolles -OT Utah - Raiders are a great young team and had a really good offensive line but had a weakness at right tackle. Bolles could fill that weakness and make that line even better. 25. Texans: Pat Mahomes -QB Texas A&M -Texans invested a lot of money into Oswiler this past off-season but it has not worked out well. Tom Savage showed some but is he really the anwser too? They could bring in a veteran or draft Mahomes. He has a rocket of an arm and is a fun QB to watch but needs to be developed from a spread offense to NFL offenses. He is being compared to a Derek Carr and everyone is looking for someone like Carr. 26. Seahawks: Taco Charlton - DE Michigan - Seahawks will never pass on another strong Pass rusher to rotate into that defense they love to run. 27. Chiefs: Charles Harris- DE/OLB Missouri - Chiefs have a great defense and great pass rushers but Dee Ford is in his last year of his contract and could demand more money than the chiefs are willing to spend. 28. Cowboys: Tim Williams -DE/OLB Alabama -Williams is tough to decided where he will be drafted with some off the field issues. Cowboys have taken character risk players before and it has helped and hurt them. They need a pass rush on that defense and if they do there homework and think Williams won't be a trouble maker. He has talent to be a force on Defense. 29. Packers: Andrees Jackson - CB. USC - packers secondary was depleted by injuries this year and were exposed multiple times. Jackson is a fun electrifying prospect as a return but is a natural cover corner on Defense. 30. Steelers: Takkarist McKinney - OLB. UCLA -Steelers need to find a new OLB. Jarvis Jones has been a bust and how much longer can we rely on James Harrison to keep playing at such a high level at his age. 31. Patriots: Jalen Tabor - CB. Florida - Logan Ryan is a FA this year and they probably won't sign him with them needing to sign butler soon. Tabor was once the top corner in the draft but has dropped some but still considered a 1st round talent and Belichick brings the most talent out of his players. 32. Falcons: Malik Mcdowells -DE/DT. Michigan's State. - Falcons have been an amazing team this year. There defense continues to improve but could look to improve at the DT position.

20 Fantasy Hockey Thoughts
Every Sunday until the start of the 2018-19 regular season, we'll share 20 Fantasy Thoughts from our writers at DobberHockey. These thoughts are curated from the past week's "Daily Ramblings".
Writers: Michael Clifford, Ian Gooding, Cam Robinson, and Dobber
  1. Of all the Islanders, I believe Anders Lee is the player who will be least affected by the loss of John Tavares. His spot on the top line and top power play unit will be unaffected. And he will be given an elite center to work with who may just provide a better compliment of skills to his own.
Mat Barzal may have been a rookie last season but he impacted things all over the ice. He and his linemates were consistently controlling the play; providing positive a Corsi For percentage (CF%) despite being deployed in the defensive end as much or more than the fun end of the rink. Don’t let the 22 goals fool you, Barzal is as pure a passer as there is in the league. He averaged just 2.08 shots-per-game as a freshman. His 34 primary assists sat tied for eighth most in the league with Johnny Gaudreau, Leon Draisaitl and Jonathan Marchessault. His 0.77 assists-per-game sat seventh. Not bad company to keep.
Now a pure distributor gets to dish to one of the league’s most deadly finishers. Sure, Barzal will have a hill to climb. He is no longer insulated by Tavares and will earn the opposition’s top defensive pairing and shutdown line. He will be game-planned against and tested on a nightly basis. However, he’s already an elite talent and the safe money is to bet that he finds a way to be successful as the top offensive option.
Lee may not hit new career-highs in a myriad of categories again in 2018-19, but he’s ripe to slip on draft day due to the perceived loss of Tavares. You can take advantage of that by sneaking him in as category filler with a solid floor and legitimate ceiling. (july21)
  2. The impending Erik Karlsson trade, what does this do to Thomas Chabot? It surely gives him more minutes, especially on the power play, but the quality of that team will be…lacking, let’s say.
Chabot was, predictably, caved in last year shots-wise when playing away from Karlsson. That’s to be expected from such a young defenseman playing on a team devoid of talent. But, who does he play with next year that could help in this regard? Cody Ceci?
Though he looks to have a bright future it could be tough sledding ahead for Chabot. It may be a few years yet before his fantasy potential is realized and it’ll have nothing to do with his play personally. Just the team surrounding him and the player he’s paired with. (july17)
  3. Oliver Bjorkstrand had 11 goals and 40 points in 2017-18. Though technically his third season in the NHL, 2017-18 was Bjorkstrand’s first full season. Like most forwards on the Blue Jackets, his role fluctuated greatly, though he didn’t find himself on the top line with any sort of regularity. He often skated with Nick Foligno, Sonny Milano, Alex Wennberg, or Boone Jenner.
If that’s to be Bjorkstrand’s role this year, improving significantly on 40 points doesn’t seem likely. Bouncing around the middle-six with secondary power play minutes doesn’t bode well for a huge boost in production.
That it doesn’t bode well for a bump in points doesn’t mean one isn’t coming. Bjorkstrand is turning into a top-end playmaker to go along with solid shot rates. Had he not shot 6.7 percent last year, if he shoots just 10 percent, he has 16 goals and a 45-point season and maybe he’s viewed with some consensus as a rising star.
Bjorkstrand’s problem is a good one for Columbus in that they have solid depth on the right side. Josh Anderson had a breakout season despite the injuries, and following a slow start, Cam Atkinson reminded us he’s a very good, and very consistent, goal scorer. Bjorkstrand has the look of a top-6 winger but due to their depth, he might not see many more minutes per game than he did last year. (july19)
  4. Habs’ Artturi Lehkonen fits the category of a potential deep sleeper. Don’t be fooled by the lack of offense last season. He’s a player who could pay off if drafted outside of the top 150. I’d even be willing to bet that he’ll still be available outside of the top 200. He was projected for 21 goals and 44 points in last season’s Fantasy Guide. Could he reach that total this season? You might just have to take a gamble, which is one that Dobber could back you on. (july22)
  5. The Wild have signed Matt Dumba to a five-year, $30 million extension. With Dumba’s bridge deal of $2.55 million now expired, salary cap owners will now need to set aside an additional $3.5 million per season for him. He certainly made good on his contract year, recording his first 50-point season (14g-36a). Prior to 2017-18, Dumba’s career high was 34 points, so this was a breakout in the true sense of the word.
If you didn’t know that Dumba scored 50 points this past season, it might be because he got lost in the crowd. Dumba was one of 19 defensemen to score at least 50 points – a number that grew significantly from 2016-17 (just 9 d-men) and 2015-16 (12 d-men). This is the trend of the puck-moving d-man at work. (july22)
  6. Evan Bouchard (Edm) and Ryan Merkley (SJ) arguably have the highest fantasy potential for 2018 NHL Draft blueliners outside of Rasmus Dahlin but both carry varying degrees of risk.
As a 1999 birthdate, Bouchard is physically ready to play in the NHL. He’s accomplished a great deal in his three years with the London Knights, including a monstrous 26-goal, 87-point draft-eligible campaign. His shot is large and in charge and he has very strong vision. He would instantly become a threat on Edmonton’s top power-play unit. That said, his skating and pace of play need to improve. Not to mention the sheer difficulty in teenagers playing defense against the very best forwards in the world. Bouchard should be targeted high in keeper leagues and is one to watch in one-year leagues if he’s still hanging around camp when the pre-season is coming to a close.
Meanwhile, Merkley is one of the most divisive prospects we’ve seen in several years. The late-2000 birthday means he’s one the youngest from the crop and also the most under-developed physically and mentally. Questions surrounding his commitment to all facets of the game, and attitude issues have followed the wildly talented blueliner for a few years.
There’s one thing that is not in doubt: when he has the puck on his stick, magic can happen. His ability to create offense is unmatched by nearly everyone in the 2018 group. The Sharks clearly aren’t too concerned with potential attitude concerns. They traded for and then committed major money to Evander Kane. You can’t have a soft stomach to make those moves. (july21)
  7. The Canucks were clear when the signed Jay Beagle that it was to provide Brandon Sutter with an opportunity to no longer be buried in the defensive end – he started a ridiculous 22.65 percent of his draws in the offensive zone. The hope for the team is that they’re paying him like a second line center (4.35MM), hopefully, he can produce like one if freed up.
Having him play with an elite talent like Elias Pettersson and a bounce-back candidate in Loui Eriksson won’t hurt. However, I question his ability to drive offense on a consistent basis.
As for Pettersson, he should be able to carve out a role on the team’s top power-play unit in Henrik Sedin’s old spot on the right half wall or patrolling the right point. Having Pettersson and Brock Boeser on opposite sides will be chaos for opposing defenders but it’ll take the rookie some time to adjust. His ceiling remains sky-high. (july21)
  8. This isn’t some sort of prediction of a breakout. What I’m saying is the ingredients are there for the Devils’ Blake Coleman to have a good season. Travis Zajac is in freefall and though I’m a believer in Pavel Zacha, it’s not certain he’ll be a full-time center next year. Coleman could find himself with more minutes next year depending on the performance of others and he has the skills necessary to put up a sneaky 20-goal season. Do not ignore him in deeper leagues. Even if he busts, he can be had at such a discount that replacing him on the waiver wire is easy. (july20)
  9. Coleman got me thinking about Marcus Johansson, another Devils skater. Johansson missed nearly three months with a concussion thanks to a flying elbow from Brad Marchand. He eventually returned in the playoffs but for just a few games, not nearly enough to judge him, especially considering how much time he missed. He looks ready for 2018-19 and let’s hope the concussion issues are behind him.
It’s easy to forget that before getting to New Jersey, Johansson averaged 20 goals and 30 assists a season for three years. That was on a high-powered Washington team but Johansson was a fixture of the top PP unit with the Capitals.
Before the concussion issues started piling up, Johansson didn’t spend much time with the top PP unit in New Jersey. Does that change now? The three forwards seemingly locked into the top unit should be Taylor Hall, Nico Hischier, and Kyle Palmieri. Could Johansson be the fourth? It may be tough because assuming Will Butcher takes that spot again, it would give them four left-handed shots. That may open the door for someone else.
All the same, I will be paying attention in training camp. The Devils used a lot of different combinations last year but Johansson will get overlooked this year in fantasy. If he seems to have the inside track on the top PP unit, be sure to pencil him in at the end of your drafts. If he doesn’t, he can probably be left alone in most leagues. (july19)
  10. Whether Jimmy Vesey takes the next step in fantasy relevance depends on usage. He’s averaged about 14 minutes a game over his first two years and that’s just not enough to put up the raw totals necessary to be relevant in most leagues. Will a new Rangers coaching regime give him more minutes or will it be status quo? It’s worth the risk in deeper leagues to draft him late but in shallower leagues he’s probably still waiver-wire material until something changes. (july20)
  11. Phillip Danault has shown chemistry with Max Pacioretty in recent seasons but the captain doesn’t seem likely to start the year in a Habs uniform, pending a trade. If Tomas Plekanec is reunited with Gallagher, that doesn’t leave much for wingers to line up with Danault.
Even with top-six minutes, Danault doesn’t contribute in peripheral categories outside of face-off wins. Unless it’s a deep points league or a league with face-offs, he can be left on the waiver wire. It’s a fine real-life signing but the fantasy hockey impact is marginal. (july19)
  12. The Calgary Flames gave the long-term deal Elias Lindholm had been looking for and the contract will carry him to his age-30 season.
How Lindholm will be used will ultimately determine whether this contract gives the appearance of fair value, or a great value. He has four full seasons under his belt, averaging 17:38 per game in that span, and managing 14 goals per 82 games over those four seasons. To say that it’s just because he played in Carolina, Justin Faulk scored more often in fewer games played. Lindholm somehow developing into a perennial 25-goal scorer seems like a bridge too far.
Some may point to Jiri Hudler putting up 31 goals and 76 points seemingly out of nowhere when slotting with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan. His previous career-highs were 25 goals and 57 points, which makes Lindholm’s situation a bit different.
What if Lindholm isn’t on the top line all year? Or, most of the year? Or, even half the year? If he plays 17 minutes a game in the middle-six, why would we expect more than 15 goals and 45 points? I don’t doubt that Lindholm gets minutes on the top line, it’s just a matter of how many and for how long. There’s a good chance his average draft position (ADP) gets too high for a reasonable profit. (july19)
  13. Chris Tierney had 40 points last year for the Sharks. With Joe Thornton returning, Joe Pavelski still in the fold, and Logan Couture around for the better part of a decade, Tierney will be locked into that third-line role for at least one more year. That, combined with the lack of power-play time, means improving substantially on 40 points is difficult.
That doesn’t mean he can’t repeat, though. There is a lot of winger talent on this team, starting with Pavleski (though he’s really a center) and Evander Kane, then Tomas Hertl and Joonas Donskoi, and an emerging star in Timo Meier. Regardless of how the lineup shakes out, Tierney will have at least one talented winger to skate with so putting up 40 points again is possible.
Pavelski has one year left on his deal and it’s uncertain whether he’ll return. If he doesn’t, Tierney could be bumped up the lineup in a year’s time. But for 2018-19, expect more or less the same as 2017-18. (july19)
  14. The Predators have signed Juuse Saros to a three-year, $4.5 million extension. Saros is worth keeping an eye on this season, as Pekka Rinne has one more year left on his $7 million per season contract. If Rinne’s playoff struggles carry over to the regular season, we could be seeing a lot more of Saros. Plus that would give the Preds a chance to see if he’s ready to take over in net in 2019-20. If so, $1.5 million per season for a starting goalie is a sweet deal. (july18)
  15. This has to be the year the Ducks finally throw Sam Steel in the lineup, right? He averaged a shade under two points per game in his Draft-plus-1 year and followed that with 83 points in 54 games last year. The injury to Ryan Kesler, and the uncertainty that brings, undoubtedly leaves them one center short. He has to figure into the lineup, right?
A couple weeks ago, I wrote about the need for the Ducks to move Ondrej Kase to the top line. I’m not sure that will actually be the case (no pun intended but welcomed nonetheless). A third-line duo of Steel-Kase is something that would be worth the look for the Ducks. Scoring outside of Rickard Rakell was hard to come by in 2017-18; Kase and Adam Henrique were a distant second behind Rakell’s 34-goal total with 20 each. Being able to run forward pairs of Ryan Getzlaf-Rakell, Henrique-Jakob Silfverberg, and Steel-Kase is a good way to spread out the talent while having solid lines throughout the roster. Provided, of course, that Steel can prove himself.
I’m intrigued here. He won’t get the top PP minutes to bring significant fantasy relevance but with so much time having elapsed since his draft, outside of dynasty owners, Steel is likely to go under the radar in keeper league setups. Take a flier on him late. (july17)
  16. One player whose ADP I’m excited (scared?) to see in September is Yanni Gourde, a player in the vein of guys before him like Viktor Arvidsson, Jonathan Marchessault, and to a lesser extent Ondrej Kase. A guy certain pockets of the hockey community saw a player with good underlying results in small samples, solid minor league numbers, and hoped they’d get a chance. Gourde finally got his chance and managed 25 goals and 64 points as a 26-year old in his first full season.
Assuming the reports are accurate, Tampa Bay looks like the landing spot for Erik Karlsson. The question is the return. Is Gourde part of the package? Tyler Johnson? Alex Killorn? There will surely be picks and prospects. It’s still uncertain if any roster players are part of the package. Regardless, the lineup as it sits today is not likely to be the lineup in two months.
Gourde likely slots on the third line this year, be it as the center or winger. Who plays with him? Will either Killorn or Johnson still be around? Will he be lined up with Cedric Paquette? Maybe one of their young wingers in Boris Katchouk or Taylor Raddysh, unless they’re part of the Karlsson trade.
There’s also the shooting percentage, which was over 18 percent overall and over 14.5 percent at five-on-five. That put him just outside the top-10 league-wide among forwards with 1000 minutes.
Gourde is a very good player. In cap leagues, he’s an exceptional asset. I just worry that the steam behind Tampa Bay as a team, Gourde’s superb year, and everyone wanting to get The Next Marchessault will push his ADP too high to be had at a reasonable price. We’ll see in a couple months. (july17)
  17. Sometimes I wonder about Chris Kreider’s ADP this year. His goal, assist, shot, and penalty minute paces (per game) were pretty much around his career norms. He’ll be on the top line with top power-play minutes. With the Rangers going through a rebuild and Kreider coming off a season where he missed a lot of games due to injury, does his ADP get depressed? He can be a very good across-the-board roto contributor when healthy. With a new coach and true top-line minutes, this seems like value in the making. (july17)
  18. For the second straight year, Filip Forsberg’s overall time on ice declined. For the second straight year, his five-on-five ice time per game declined. For the third straight year, his five-on-five shot rate declined. For the second straight year, his shots per game declined. For the second straight year, his five-on-five individual expected goals rate declined.
Anyone watching Forsberg knows he’s not in decline. The guy’s hitting his prime. Injuries played a factor last year and the emergence of Viktor Arvidsson meant fewer shots to go around when the duo was on the ice together.
One thing that saved his season was his shooting percentage on the power play. His previous career-high was 15.4 percent. From 2014-17, he shot 11.3 percent on aggregate. In 2017-18, he shot 26.7 percent. Just playing 82 games will help mitigate the drop in PP goals but a return to normalcy could still cut his PP goal totals by three or four, even with the 15 extra games. The team shot 8.8 percent with him on the ice at five-on-five from 2014-17. Last year, that jumped to 10.2 percent. Despite the team’s expected goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five with Forsberg on the ice being 2.7, they scored 3.6.
He also set a career-high in individual points percentage – the rate he tallies points on goals scored with him on the ice – with his previous high coming in 2014-15. It was a marginal record, but still his best.
Forsberg wasn’t very far off a point-per-game pace last year. The question is if he can repeat that and be an 80-point player this year. Given the high percentages basically across the board, I find it hard to believe he’ll be near a point-per-game player. Maybe he can crack 70 points but I’ll be interested to see his ADP once September rolls around. It might be too rich to search for any profit. (july17)
  19. A couple of recent two-way deals I want to point out: Andreas Johnsson with the Leafs  and Danny O’Regan with the Sabres.
Johnsson has to clear waivers in order to be sent down and he’s already proven time and again that he’s NHL-ready. I already have him as a lock to make the team. Why he signed his two-way qualifying offer was strategic – he’s banking on a full NHL season so that he can cash in next year. Meanwhile, my hunch is that Leafs’ GM Kyle Dubas was thinking about how to get him to sign for two or three years – and I wonder if Johnsson signing his qualifying offer caught him off guard. The Leafs will never – never – waive him no matter how horrible his training camp is. I like his thinking there.
O’Regan would have been in tough to make the Sabres and he can still be sent down without clearing waivers. So, he’s as good as off the team to start the year. But, he has nothing left to prove in the AHL. (july16)
  20. Another interesting one was when Nicholas Baptiste signed a two-way deal with the Sabres. He has to clear waivers and I was having trouble fitting him into the Buffalo lineup. He played 33 games for the Sabres last year but the team is significantly more crowded this time around. And I think he’s behind Justin Bailey in terms of the depth chart – Bailey also has to clear to be sent down, is also a right shot, is bigger (6-3, 214) and was drafted higher (52nd overall versus 69th overall) and I think those things make a difference when teams prioritize who they want to see succeed more. And soon after I wrote the above blurb, Bailey signs and it’s a two-way contract. So, he’s in the same boat as Baptiste. (july16)
Have a good week, folks!!
