When it comes to historical research, do you research for things that DON'T exist? For example, foods that are common now but didn't exist in the average American restaurant or grocery in the '80s or '90's? Words, phrases, and entire concepts that are commonly accepted today but unheard of to the average American when Mav and Ice were at Top Gun?

Your writing is so unbelievably good.

not really because I don't care about food, I care about the literary device that is "taking communion." i.e. it doesn't matter what they eat, it only matters that they're eating together, for the plot.

And, okay, showing my little-kid bias, but was there actually stuff in grocery stores in the 80s/90s that wouldn't be there today/vice versa? brands might change, like okay Pringles might not exist but you still have potato chips; and obviously specialty stuff like what you find in your average Asian market might not be commonplace, but, like, were the 90s all that different from today, American-food-wise? its my assumption that they weren't, but I also wasn't alive in the 90s, so. Um, ectocooler Hi-C, maybe? that's the one 90s food I know.

attitudes of course are what change. today's concept of being so QUICK to publicly label sexual identities would be extremely foreign, for instance. obviously people did label their sexualities in the 80s & 90s, people were definitely calling themselves bisexual and such, but probably not the people ice & mav would be hanging out with, in the Reagan-era navy. which is what my fics are about. that's the whole point.

and, also, COMMUNICATION changes. I have never used a payphone in my whole life so I actually have no idea how they work. but they were ubiquitous "back then," and lend themselves to amazingly interesting conflict (omg I don't have enough change to call my boyfriend maverick who's mad at me!!!) which is why I lean on payphones so much in my writing. honestly, im gonna be real, the invention of the cell phone makes telling stories about miscommunication so much harder. instant-speed communication would make certain stories less interesting, which is why a lot of horror movies default to the "no cell service" trope to isolate their characters, or why some teen dramas have the characters reject cell phones on principle (Alyssa or James having a phone in 2017's "The End of the F***ing World" would solve most of their problems, which is why Alyssa smashes hers in the first five minutes and James basically says he views them as a cancer to society--if they had phones the story would be boring, so the writers took away their phones).

I also feel like people used to treat society differently "back then," i.e. Going Out was much more of a thing when there were 10 channels on TV and no one had cell phones, so you Went Out and had drinks & met strangers & interacted with general society to an extent im not sure we do anymore. So that experience is way more fun to write about in the 80s than today. (u can't see me but im seething with jealousy over ppl who were born in ~1965)

idk. im not sure I did a great job reproducing the zeitgeist of the 80s/90s in my fics, bc I wasn't there to have knowledge of what they were like. I got most of my presupposed knowledge about that time period from reading Calvin & Hobbes anthologies as a kid. oh well.

“DreAM NOHOHO!” George couldn’t stop the scream that left his lips as he felt fingers squeeze at his thighs suddenly, kicking and thrashing to knock Dream’s impatient hands away.

“George, you said we could record, why are you taking a nap? This is on you.” The blonde haired boy smirked as he continued to walk his fingers up George’s thighs, moving to straddle the restless legs to hold them down.

“Nohoho DON’T DREHEAM! Nahahaha!” Dream let out a cross between a giggle and a cough, unable to hold in his laughter due to the over-dramatic reaction from George. The boy below him bucked up off the bed, only pushing his hips further into Dream’s prodding fingers. George’s body fell back against the blankets as he continued to kick his legs, trying his hardest to pull Dream’s hands away.

“You brought this on yourself, Georgie. I came in to get you an hour ago and you literally went back to bed. We HAVE to film today, idiot.” George felt Dream’s hands start to move up from his hips, letting out a cackle before falling into high pitched giggles. Dream was surprised to see George had suddenly stopped struggling - his hands were now laying against the bed next to his sides while his legs had stopped their kicking.

“Woah! You, like, melted! What’s this,George?” Dream cocked a curious eyebrow up, looking down to inspect what was causing this adorable reaction. His hands were squeezing lightly against his sides. He gave an experimental skitter of his nails against George’s skin, causing him to let out a squeak before surrendering back into high pitched giggles. At Dream’s question, he just shook his head back and forth.

“Is this your melty spot George? Have I just found the easiest way in the world to make you a pile of goopy gogy?” George let out a cackle at that, scrunching up his nose at Dream’s words. Dream also scrunched his face briefly at his comparison, but continued regardless.

“What, you didn’t like that? Goopy Gogy? It can be your new nickname!” it was Dream’s turn to let out a cackle as George rolled his eyes and, with a growl through his laughter, smacked at Dream’s arm. The bigger boy took this as an opportunity to go back to light scratches up George’s sides, just under his ribs, making him squirm briefly before dropping his hands back on the bed.

“Ihihit’s a horrible nahahame, yohou’re an idiot!” George spoke through his giggles. His head was thrown back, eyes shut as he allowed Dream to continue, even slightly turning his body to get Dream to scratch over certain parts that made him especially giggly.

“Well, all that matters here is I found goopy’s melty spot,” Dream began, cringing through the ridiculous name he’d made up and continuing to scratch along George’s ribs and sides, adding a little more pressure. “You gonna get up to film? Or are you gonna need some more convincing?”

“Nononoho I’m getting up! I’m uhuhp Dreheam!” The brunette squealed with another buck of his hips as Dream squeezed his hips twice before sliding off his legs and onto the bed next to him. The younger boy leaned forward and reached out to poke into George’s tummy, making him yelp and curl before getting off the bed himself and walking towards the door.

“You better be ready to record in the next 5 minutes, or else.” Dream turned around in the doorway and pointed at George with a wiggling finger, warning him of what would happen if he wasn’t.

“Yeah yeah, I’ll be ready.” Dream nodded at his response and turned around to leave, stopping in his tracks as George called his name.

“Oh Dream?”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t think that I’m not getting you back for that. We both know your melty spot is your tummy, and I’m gonna exploit that when you least expect it.”

Dream felt all the blood in his body rush to his cheeks, wondering how he wasn’t physically on fire as he watched George smirk while walking passed him to the bathroom. He let out a yelp when he felt light fingers glide across his tummy, gone less than a second later.

“George!” Dream scoffed in disbelief, stuttering to say anything else as he met George’s eyes, watching them sparkle with mischief as he giggled. He wiggled his eyebrows at the taller boy a few times before shutting the door to the bathroom, leaving a very flustered Dreamwastaken to rush off to his recording room, mumbling about how much of an idiot his best friend is.

Alex, which type of magic did you find hardest to learn? Which type came naturally? Do you have a favorite or a preference?}

Jacob: Man… I consider myself more like my mum.

Personality wise, I got stuff from mum, for sure. I don’t have her temper (most times), but I definitely have a lot of the concern, the protectiveness, the curiosity, the anxiety. (Alex: Hey! ….. yeah, it’s true.) And her love of bad dad jokes.

I look like mostly dad, but I got mum’s hair and her nose. I also have birth marks and moles all over like her, which is funny. I really like that I have dad’s eyes.

I like the way my magic manifested. I have both of them to thank for that. I don’t use a focus like mum because of dad’s side, but I still love using spell books and components and my magic is like hers - all wispy - but because my aura is blue (Tia Allie told me that!) it comes out blue! Mum’s is gold.

The thing I don’t like… mmf, I dunno. I feel guilty saying this but… the anxiety, because it causes the Jotun part in me to trigger. And when the Jotun form comes out it’s… kind of painful for me. And scary.

Alex: Oof, using my focus (my wand) outright was hard until I was 19. But the hardest kind of magic for me was offensive magic. Using spells for fighting was difficult to control, more when I was younger, because I was always scared of it blowing up. And if you don’t have a steady handle of your focus, the magic could either not work or just go out of control. Kori helped me refine this and my defensive magic a lot when I moved to New York.

The easiest and most natural was my potion making - My mom told me that my great grandmother was a spell maker and a potions master, so I guess I inherited that skill from her. It also takes a little more than just throwing ingredients together, you have to make sure you enchant it right or the effectiveness is too low or dangerously high. And I just always got a handle of doing that just right since I was young. Semantic enchanting of potions was just easy, which is ironic considering how much I struggled with other enchanting or use of spells outside of that. But I got the handle of it eventually.

A preference? Honestly, I like using my magic for doing things like conjuring. Don’t get me wrong, I like potion making, of course but... making little orbs of light or little fireworks shows without the loud noise? That’s pretty cool.

I used to do things like that for Jacob when he was younger. Flashy stuff to give him little light shows to cheer him up when he was down.

Maybe it’s the Leo in me, haha.

Ler!Sapnap: I think Sapnap is someone who loves to dig in and get a reaction right off the bat, so I think he’d rather do rough tickles on a not so bad spot rather than light tickles on a bad spot

Lee!XD: I think XD is still sensitive to tickling since they’re newer to it than mortals, so I think they like getting light tickles - even if it’s on their most sensitive spots

20. Tickle hugs or tickle cuddles?

Ler!Sapnap: Sapnap definitely likes tickle cuddles. I can see him being the big spoon and just tickling into the lees tummy with his chin on their shoulder, teasing them about how much they’re laughing even though he’s “not doing anything” 🙄

Lee!XD: I think XD loves both, but they like tickle cuddles best. Even though they’re normally cuddling people into them because of how much bigger they are, they still love to give and receive tickles during cuddles. They get all giggly and they’ll just lay back and let the ler tickle them while a set of XD’s arms are held above their head (the other grabbing the sheets to keep them down), the ler laying against their chest and teasing about how they’re “only using one finger, surely it can’t be that bad, right?”
