why do some people treat recommending a First touhou game like whatever they pick is going to be the game that person will be married to until they beat it. like when i first started i just juggled around basically all the windows gen 1 games until i found my footing LOL

#if you want my answer its. Start with eosd/th06 if youre interested in the lore and stories #start with literally any other windows game besides eosd if you just want to play a fun bullet hell. my personal favorites are 8 and 14 #also play on easy mode if you're having trouble literally why do people care about other people playing easy mode.#6 and 10 are the only windows games that lock you out of getting the good ending for doing so so. Not a big deal

On ZUN's website (at www16.big.or.jp/~zun/html/th06.html), there is a picture with Reimu in the select menu on Hard difficulty from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.

First image is taken from his website and second image is from ver. 0.08+. As you can see, the position of the difficulty square is slightly changed and the colour of the text saying "Hard" is purple instead of pink.

The graphic with the purple Hard mode variant still exists in the files of the full version ver. 1.02h, although it's just an unused graphic in the present (see /post/162557331914/). But it seems that it was used in the past. It is unknown exactly in which version the change occured.

if you hate bullet hell games (dont worry I believe 90% of the touhou community does) then you can find an abundant amount of fan games that are not bullet hells on steam (I recommend luna nights and scarlet curiosity)

the only touhous that Ive beaten are th06 - th08 Im a poser for any character outside of those games.

ive been trying to get into touhou for ages but have found it very difficult to access. do you have any particular places you look?

i got into it via this google drive archive of all of the games +a patcher to play them in English (said patcher will still work on games bought on steam!)

you can start wherever you want, it doesn't really matter all that much, but my personal recommendations are:

- th06/embodiment of scarlet devil (the first game released on Windows, has a lot of the most iconic characters, generally just well beloved. it's where i started!)

- th07/perfect cherry blossom (a little easier than EoSD, also very iconic)

- th14/double dealing character (this one's just a personal favorite lol)

- and th17/wily beast and weakest creature (pretty agreed upon to be the easiest game in the series)

apart from eosd, all of these will allow you to get the good ending on easy mode, so that's also pretty nice if you're not all that accustomed to bullet hell.

also if you're having trouble getting any of the older ones to work, 99% of the time you can just look up your issue and the first result will be someone on reddit who has already found the answer for you LOL
