Hug (Final Rose)
“Come here.” Lightning opened her arms. “Let me hug you.”
Serah took one look at her sister, took note of the smile on her face, and then ran. “Lumina, help! Saviour has taken over!”
Lightning blinked as Serah sprinted behind Lumina and eyed her warily from behind the youngest of the three.
“Come on,” Serah said. “Where are your Aura constructs?”
Lumina sighed and patted Serah on the head. It was easy to forget which one of them was supposed to be the younger twin. “I don’t think it’s Saviour taking over.”
“But look at her smile...” Serah made a face. “It’s so creepy.”
“Excuse me?” Lightning snarled. “Creepy?”
“Oh.” Serah relaxed. “It’s not Saviour. That glare was all Lightning.”
Snow nudged Caius. “And that, Caius, is why Lightning doesn’t just randomly hug her sisters out of the blue.”
“That forced smile was terrifying,” Caius said. “I genuinely feared for my life, and she wasn’t even smiling at me.”
Fang didn’t say anything. She was too busy laughing.
“Uh...” Vanille noticed Lightning’s glare intensifying as she turned to Fang. “I’d better get her out of here.” One trusty net-gun deployment later, and Vanille was dragging Fang off.
“That might be for the best,” Yeul said;. “I foresee great tragedy if Fang stays here.”
“...” Vanille sighed. “Yeul, I don’t think you need your Semblance to know what’ll happen if Fang keeps laughing.”

Photo Shoot (Final Rose)
“Touch my ass, and I will kill you.”
“As if I’d want to touch your ass.”
Snow and Caius sighed. Photo shoots were part and parcel of being a member of a prominent team, and Team LFSC wasn’t simply a prominent team. They were the strongest team in the world, and they hadn’t even graduated from Beacon Senior Academy yet.
In addition to taking countless photographs of the team as a whole and as individuals, they had also been asked to pose for photographs in every conceivable combination. He and Caius had already finished all of theirs. The only ones left now were the ones with just Lightning and Fang.
It was going about as well as expected.
“Are they always like this?” the photographer asked.
Snow nodded. The poor woman looked like she was on the verge of having a heart attack. “Yep.” He cleared his throat. “Hey, you guys, discussions of Lightning’s ass aside, can you tone it down? You’re leaking Aura here.”
Lightning glared, and it was only Snow’s years of exposure that kept him from dropping dead on the spot. Even so, his Semblance reflexively activated, wisps of his blue giant forming around him. “I don’t ever want to hear you even mention my ass, Snow.”
“Not everyone is obsessed with your ass,” Fang shot back.
“What? Are you saying it isn’t a good ass?”
“...” Caius took a deep breath. “The sooner you stop arguing, the sooner we can be done with this.” He put one hand on the photographers shoulder. “And you’re still leaking Aura.”
There was a brief pause as Lightning and Fang glared at each other before their Auras snapped back under their full control. The photographer immediately relaxed and gave Snow and Caius thankful looks.
“Okay, ladies,” she said. “Let’s just get this over with.”

Years later...
Averia scowled.
“Can you two stop making googly eyes at each other!” The nine-year-old jabbed her finger at her parents. “We’ll never get the family photos done if you keep staring at each other.”
“Wait!” Diana cried, running off. “I forgot Strangles! I have to get him! He needs to be in the photo too!”

Author’s Notes
Meanwhile Team STRQ has Qrow telling Raven to look less edgy while Summer lectures him on looking like a weirdo. He needs to comb that hair, tuck in that shirt, and stand straight! Taiyang, though, is just super photogenic. Yang inherits that. She is probably the most photographed student of her generation because the camera absolutely adores her.
Incidentally, none of the next-generation teams are as troublesome as Team LFSC. The worst they ever do is make silly faces.

Gift (Final Rose)
Snow watched in disbelief as Fang marched toward Lightning dragging the corpse of a huge Grimm behind her. The creature’s skull had been caved in, and its limbs had been torn off. The spiky protrusions of bone that had once covered its back had been ripped out and driven into its belly. The Grimm’s blood and guts left behind a long, horrid trail to mark its passage.
The other Yun in the camp stopped to watch as Fang came to a halt in front of Lightning. For a moment there was only silence as Lightning’s gaze went first to the dead Grimm and then to Fang. There were bits of gore and viscera splattered all over her.
“I told you to stay here. We were going to go after the Grimm as a team,” Lightning’s voice was ice. Her Aura, which had always reminded Snow of a gathering storm, sharpened and began to bleed into the surrounding area.
“And I told you that was stupid. They gave us an entire week to do this mission when we both know it could be done in a day.” Fang met Lightning’s gaze without flinching and moved closer until they were almost nose to nose. Snow could see from the minute creasing of Lightning’s brow that the pink-haired woman hated the fact that Fang was taller than her. “So I decided to solve the problem.”
“By disobeying my order.” Lightning held her ground as Fang’s Aura went from a campfire to an inferno. The other Yun who had accompanied them took several steps back.
“Your order was stupid.” Fang’s lips curled, and Snow was reminded, once again, of the fact that her canines were longer than they should be. She flicked her wrist, and the dead Grimm’s body thumped into the ground next to Lightning. “You would have had us out here for a whole week while you planned the optimal way to kill this thing. It took me less than an hour to drag its corpse back here.”
“And you’re sure this is the right Grimm?” Lightning asked. “This wouldn’t be the first time you’ve rushed into something and made a mistake.”
Fang’s eyes narrowed. Snow knew exactly what Lightning was referring to. When they had first been put on the same team, Fang had challenged Lightning for leadership of the team... and lost. In retrospect, Snow was fairly sure that the pair were actually evenly matched, but Fang’s rush to pick a fight had put her at a disadvantage from the start.
“You can check it yourself if you want,” Fang said. “It’s the right one.”
Without looking away from Fang, Lightning flicked her wrist out to one side. Her gun-blade unfurled into its sword form, and she drove the weapon into the Grimm’s side. There was a wet squelch before Lightning yanked her blade up. A strange, gem-like core tumbled through the air, and Lightning caught it on the flat of her blade.
“See?” Fang asked. “It’s the right one. The report was clear. There were two of these things. One of them was killed, and they found a core just like that inside it.” She bared her teeth. “And before you ask, sunshine, I checked. There aren’t any other Grimm like this around. I would have killed them too if there were.”
Lightning flicked the core toward Snow. He caught it in one hand and then grimaced at the gore still on it. “Put that in the storage container they gave us. They’ll want to study it.”
“See?” Fang’s lips curved into a mocking smirk. “Easy.” Still smirking, Fang turned on her heel and ambled off.
Lightning watched her go, gaze utterly inscrutable. Snow would have missed her whispered words if Caius hadn’t gestured for him to stay where he was.
“That’s so damn hot,” Lightning muttered, inscrutable gaze now locked on Fang’s swaying hips.

Author’s Notes
Because Student!Lightning and Student!Fang were antagonistic jerks toward each other who also happened to ogle each other when they thought nobody was watching. Also, any team in which Caius is the second most normal person is probably very weird since he, you know, creates ghosts out of the people he kills to use their powers. And Snow being the most normal person on the team speaks volumes.
Also, you know that Lightning and Fang will both later deny that they were ever that bad. Meanwhile, both Caius and Snow will have photographic and video evidence that, yes, they were that bad.

Utility (Final Rose)
“Well... I guess that’s one way to use it,” Snow murmured.
“Ah. Right.” Caius nodded sagely. “Fang is probably the first Yun warrior that you’ve met, isn’t she?”
“I’ve met a few in the past, but she’s the first one I’ve gotten to know properly,” Snow replied.
“In that case, allow me to explain.” Caius cleared his throat. “Using your sari to garrotte your opponents is a time-honoured technique amongst Yun warriors.”
Lightning scowled. “Huh... I suppose it is useful.”
“Uh... guys?” Fang asked as she tightened the sari around the would-be terrorist’s throat. “Are you guys going to help, or do I actually have to garrotte this guy all the way until he’s dead?”
Lightning glanced at Caius. “Him being dead won’t be a problem for you, will it?”
“Not if I kill him, but I can’t make a ghost out of him if Fang is the one who kills him.”
“Would it count if you also held the sari?” Lightning asked. “Or is that not enough?”
“Hmm...” Caius made a thoughtful sound. “I don’t think it would work. I’ve got to be the one who strikes the killing blow or at least the one who is most responsible for someone being killed. And it has to be in a fairly direct manner too. For example, if I don’t warn someone about something and that gets them killed, I don’t get a ghost.”
“Uh, guys.” Snow pointed. “He’s turning kind of blue.”
Lightning sighed. “Fang, ease up a little. We need information from him about who his co-conspirators are and what they’re planning. I doubt he’s working alone.”
Fang unwrapped her sari from around the man’s neck. “Fine.” Her eyes narrowed. “But he did try to blow up a transport hub full of hundreds of people.”
“True.” Lightning nodded at Caius as the man hacked and coughed in a bid to drag air into his lungs. “Well, he’s not dead. I’m sure you can rectify that, and his ghost will tell us everything we need to know.”
Caius stepped forward and then down, his booted heel crushing the man’s throat. “That should do it.”
Snow made a face. “You know, guys, the police are probably going to ask us what happened.”
“He was going to be executed for his crimes,” Lightning said. “Having Caius do it now saves Vale money and ensures we get all of the information we need right away.”
“...”

Author’s Notes
Yeah, Team LFSC is a gigantic sledgehammer, and the rest of the world is full of nails. That said, as long as you don’t need someone alive, Caius’s Semblance is great since he basically knows whatever his ghosts know if he wants to. This has led to many criminal groups, such as the White Fang, having standing orders that people who are confronted by Caius who cannot escape should kill themselves to avoid divulging sensitive information. There are similar practices in place for people like Jahne and Jihl.

Executioner (Final Rose)
"I...”
Averia put one hand out and eased Crescent Rose aside. “Let me.”
Ruby stared at her. “But...”
Averia’s gaze flicked to the woman huddled against the wall. “You are a huntress, Ruby. You are someone who fights monsters. For the most part, that means you will be killing Grimm.” Her gaze hardened. “You have killed other people before, but that has been in the heat of battle or in defence of those you love. This woman has not wronged you in any real way, but she poses an existential threat to civilisation. If left alive, she will, at some point, inflict severe damage to the world economy, possibly irreparable damage, all to fill her own pockets and maximise her wealth.”
“I know that.”
“Then why did you hesitate?” Averia asked, not unkindly.
“...”
“It’s because this woman is not a warrior. You will not killing her in battle, nor will you be striking at her in righteous anger. Instead, you will be killing a helpless person in cold blood. And that, Ruby, is not something I think you are comfortable doing.”
“And you are?” Ruby hissed.
“Yes.” Averia shrugged. “To me, it matters little if the threat someone poses to civilisation is through combat or more insidious means. What matters is that someone has decided to actively damage civilisation for personal gain. Besides, to me, all but three people on this planet are effectively helpless. You are all, in some way, little more than lambs to the slaughter.” Averia reached out to one side, and a sword formed in her hands. “But I am no wolf, Ruby. I am a sheepdog. I protect the lambs of the world from the wolves. But when a lamb turns against the flock... it is no longer a part of the flock. And to such a lost lamb, one so willing to harm the rest of the flock, I might as well be a wolf.”
The woman’s eyes widened. “Please, I can -”
Averia’s sword vanished, and reappeared in the wall, cleanly parting the woman’s head from her shoulders. The blade was so perfectly placed that even as the body slumped to the ground, the head remained poised on the blade, the woman’s mouth opening and closing briefly before falling still as the light in her eyes dimmed.
“Ruby,” Averia murmured. “This will be the last mission like this that you get sent on.”
“I can do this,” Ruby insisted.
“No, you can’t.” Averia turned, and the woman’s body disintegrated, along with the blade. “And that, Ruby, is a good thing.”

Author’s Notes
Such missions have hunters play the part of executioner. Not all hunters are psychologically compatible with these missions although most go on one or two, just to see how they respond. Ruby is someone who can’t do these sorts of missions long term without suffering psychological damage. Averia has no such compunctions, which she views as both a good and a bad thing. If everyone was like her, the world would be a scary place, but she understands that some people do have to be like her, or it would fall apart.
On Team RWBY, Blake is the only one who routinely takes these sorts of mission.
On Team ACEJ, Elsa is the only one who doesn’t.
On Team JNPR, Ren is the one who goes on these missions.
On Team TTFY, Fujing and Trajan take these missions.
On Team LFSC, Snow is the only one who doesn’t go on these missions.
On Team SYLV, everyone takes these missions.
On Team DAYR, everyone except Anna takes these missions.

Note
Do bullets just bounce off high tier hunters?
Pretty much. It's why whenever a high-tier hunter goes rogue, the standard response is to send someone even scarier after them. Otherwise, you're just sending people to their deaths. Note that bullets fired by other high-tier hunters are dangerous. Any decent hunter will know how to enhance their weaponry using their Aura, and a high-tier hunter's bullets will be enhanced enough to dent people at a similar level. Or you could take Vanille's approach. Use rail guns or other similar weapons to simply overwhelm an opponent's durability.
The existence of people like Team LFSC is important not only because of their efforts against the Grimm but also because they serve as powerful deterrents toward anyone who is thinking about going rogue. A certain level of eccentricity is certainly tolerated, but there are clear lines that hunters know not to cross.

If Team Were Parties (Final Rose x RPG)
Team LFSC would be a mess. You basically have a bunch of people were designed to solo things thrown together in a way that guarantees massive, massive property damage. It might work, but you can’t help but wonder if it’s the most brute force approach imaginable.
Team RWBY actually makes a lot of sense. You’ve got Yang to tank and melee with help from Blake who can tank (clones) or assassinate while Ruby can melee or snipe. Weiss, meanwhile stays safe and blasts the crap out of everything once she’s ready to go.
Team ACEJ also makes a decent amount of sense. Jahne is there to confuse/distract the enemy or take out key targets, Claire can snipe or DPS at close range, and Averia is just some OP thing you can throw at whoever has pissed you off the most. Elsa, meanwhile, can control the battlefield and grant an overwhelming DPS advantage if left untouched.
Team JNPR probably needs one more ranged attacker. The issue is that Ren is a great sneak/assassin, Nora works wonderfully as a tank and does have a ranged attack, but Pyrrha is going to be doing most of the heavy lifting both in melee range and at long range due to her Semblance. This issue isn’t really fixed by Jaune getting better either since he doesn’t have a ranged attack. And, yes, Ren has a ranged attack, but it doesn’t have the grunt you’d want (e.g., compare him to someone like Ruby or Claire in terms of damage output at range).
Team SYLV actually makes heaps of sense... if only because Vanille and Lumina can basically do anything. Lumina can hit heavily at any range, as can Vanille, and both of them can flood the battlefield (Lumina with constructs and Vanille with robots and drones, as well as artillery and the like). Meanwhile, Yeul is similar to Weiss in that she uses Dust to power AOE attacks. Of course, she can’t match Weiss’s output, but she is arguably quicker and has foresight to make her attacks count. Serah is a time-warper who can fight at range or up close. As long as she is alive, Team SYLV can generally control the flow of battle and retreat or advance with impunity.
Team DAYR is what happens when you put together a saboteur/assassination team and then dump a world-ending monster on it. Their entire plan centres around Diana being able to aggro the enemy, so the others can do their thing. Alternatively, they can sneak in, do their thing, and then get out. A lot of this has to do with Diana being put on a team of VIPs, so using them like a sledgehammer makes little sense.
Excluding the obvious people (bearers of Ragnarok and Saviour), who would you want on your party of four?
I imagine a team like Caius, Snow, Elsa, and Vanille would be absolutely terrifying. Or a team with Yang, Pyrrha, Weiss, and Lumina.

Disparity (Final Rose)
Summer clutched at the cloak Raven had lent her. It wasn’t often that the other woman bothered to wear a cloak, but the weather had been less than ideal. Summer’s own cloak had met its end at the hands of their foe. The Grimm had managed to shred her cloak before going down beneath a hail of blows.
“Raven...” Summer sighed. “I can’t wear this.”
“If you’re worried about me getting cold, don’t be. I’ve got more than enough Aura to keep myself warm.” The taller woman’s lips twitched. “And we both know that I handle the cold better than you anyway.”
“Do you not like the colour or something?” Taiyang grinned. “I could lend you my cloak.”
Qrow rolled his eyes. “Guys, that’s not it.” He snickered. “Look down.”
Raven and Taiyang both looked down. Summer had draped the cloak over her shoulders easily enough... but the hem was dragging in the dirt.
“...” Taiyang managed to bite back a snicker, but Raven didn’t even bother to try.
“Oh, that’s hilarious.” She put one around Summer. “There, there. It’s not your fault that you’re so small. If you want, I can use my sword to trim the cloak for you.”
Summer’s eye twitched. “Don’t make me stab you.”

Author’s Notes
Although Lightning is technically the shortest member of Team LFSC, she’s not that much shorter than Fang. Her tyranny also prevents her team from getting too obnoxious about it. However, Summer is very obviously the shortest member of her team, and she lacks the power of the Farron Death Glare.
Note that Ruby doesn’t have to put up with any teasing since she and Weiss are similar in height, and it’s not long before she’s taller than Weiss. That eventually leads to Yang and Blake teasing Weiss about it while Ruby pretends not to notice despite thinking it’s adorable.
Also note that once Diana begins shooting up like a weed, she is not shy about pointing out her newly acquired height to her teammates.

Trick (Final Rose x MHA)
"Do you know any tricks with your quirk?” Ochako asked.
Tenko raised one eyebrow. They were in the middle of ‘quirk development class’, which was a fancy way of saying the students were given access to facilities that let them muck about with their quirks in a safe environment. As she’d pointed out to Nezu, the restrictions imposed on civilians meant that for many of the students, they’d never really gotten a chance to cut loose. Letting them do so under supervision and with the proper facilities should speed up their improvement.
“Tricks?” Tenko pursed her lips. As Lightning Farron, she’d often used little tricks with her Semblance to keep her kids amused when they’d been young. “I might know a few.”
“Oh!” Ochako grinned and beckoned some of the other students over. “Can you show us?”
“Do we really need everyone else to watch?” Tenko asked.
“We look forward to your display!” Tenya said, bowing deeply.
“Don’t hold back on us,” Bakugo said. “If you’ve got any cool shit, we’d like to see it.”
“You do have more experience than any of us,” Momo pointed out. “And you are always telling us about the importance of versatility.”
Tenko chuckled. “I suppose I have to do something now. Momo, can you make me a deck of playing cards? If you can, I’d prefer the the professional kind with the smooth finish.”
“Playing cards?” Momo’s brows furrowed. “I can do that.”
“Thank you.” Tenko waited until Momo was done and then held the playing cards up. “As you can see, and as Momo will tell you, these are professional playing cards. They have not been enhanced or modified in any other way.” She palmed the deck in her left hand and then flicked a card into her right hand. “As you know, part of my quirk is the ability to enhance the properties of objects.”
Tenko turned to the target nearby. It was one of the sturdier ones, consisting of a solid circular plate of metal with a bullseye on it mounted on a concrete pillar. “Normally, I’d use that ability on a weapon like a baton or a staff or on equipment like a net or capture tape. However, I can also do this...”
Tenko wrapped the playing card in Aura and then threw it at the target. The card sailed through the air, and then went right through the target.
“Son of a bitch!” Bakugo growled. “Do that again.”
Tenko sketched a bow. “Ochako, since you asked for a demonstration, I’ll let you choose how many cards you want me to throw.”
“Um...” The girl rubbed her chin. “Four.”
Tenko palmed four cards in her right hand and then threw them with almost careless nonchalance. They left four holes in the metal plate in a neat circle around the first hole.
“Wow!”
Tenko bit back a grin. Techniques like this were used to teach Aura reinforcement and control. Learning how to make a playing card sharp enough was a great way to practice the skills needed to let a sword cut through concrete like it was paper. It also meant a properly skilled hunter was never unarmed. A business card, a piece of paper, even a straw could all be deadly in the right hands.
“That’s too easy,” Bakugo said. “How about moving targets.” He picked up some pieces of rubble. “Hey, Deku, grab some rubble. We’re going to be lobbing targets.”
Tenko nodded. “By all means.”
The two boys threw the pieces of rubble into the air, and Tenko allowed the cards to flash from one hand to the other. She was showing off, but card tricks were something she’d picked up from Caius back when Team LFSC had free time. He’d taught Snow and Fang as well, but she’d always been fonder of the tricks than her other teammates.
She waited until the rubble began to descend before sending cards flying. The cards swerved through the air, slicing through the bits of rubble and then arcing into the target further back. By the time she ran out of cards, she’d hit every piece of rubble and hadn’t missed the target even once.
“Okay,” Ochako said. “That is pretty awesome.” She paused. “Also... I don’t think we can ever let you join one of our poker games.”
“That would be a the smart thing to do,” Tenko said, unable to stop a small grin from creeping over her lips. “Also... Momo, if I could have your assistance again. Although one of the aims of this class is to help you improve your quirk usage, you should also keep your classmates in mind.”
Tenko led Momo over to the target. “Momo, if you hit the concrete pillar holding up the target with your bare hands, what would happen?”
The other girl winced. “I’d break my hand.”
Tenko nodded. “Correct. Now, here’s the fun part. Do you trust me?”
“What?” Momo asked, suddenly flustered.
“Do you trust me?”
“I...” Momo nodded, thinking of everything Tenko had already done to help her. “Yes. I trust you.”
“Good. Come over here and take up a stance next to the pillar.” Tenko put one arm one Momo’s back. “Now on the count of three, punch the pillar as hard as you can.”
Momo gaped. “What? But -”
“I promise you’ll be fine.” Tenko grinned impishly. “And I don’t break my promises.”
“...” Momo took a deep breath. “If you say so.”
“One... two...” Tenko allowed her Aura to flow over Momo. The people here didn’t have Aura, so it wasn’t like she could boost Momo’s reserves to make her stronger. What Tenko could do, thanks to her fantastic control, was cover Momo in enough Aura to make her immensely durable. It was like coating her in an impenetrable forcefield. Ironically, this was actually easier to do here on Earth than on Remnant. A persons’s Aura would naturally reject and destabilise this level of contact without a close bond, but since Momo didn’t have any Aura, Tenko had no problems doing it.
A faint blue glow surrounded Momo.
“Three.”
Momo closed her eyes and swung her fist at the pillar as hard as she could - and the pillar came apart in a shower of rubble as her fist smashed straight through it.
“Huh...?” Momo blinked and looked down at her first. “What the?”
Tenko patted Momo’s knuckles. “Objects aren’t the only thing I can enhance. I can use my quirk on people to make them more durable too. When you swung your fist, you might as well have been swinging a fist-shaped wrecking ball.”
“Wow.” Momo stared at the broken pillar. “Can... can you just do that to anyone?”
“Hmmm...” Tenko pretended to think about it. “Not really. I’ve got to be touching someone, and it takes a bit of time.” The first was mostly true. The second was basically a lie. She could reinforce objects instantaneously. “So it’s more of an emergency move than something I’d use all the time. Still, it would be handy if I needed to protect someone and can’t get them out of the way in time.”
Tenko caught the thoughtful expression on Izuku’s face. “No, I will not be using it on you while you train, Izuku. You need to improve your control.”

Cringe (Final Rose)
Lightning tried not to die from the sheer cringe-inducing horror of watching Ruby and Yang re-enact a fight from her younger days.
Ruby stood atop a trash can, red cloak aflutter as she did her best to mimic Lightning’s stoic expression. “Surrender. There is no way you can beat me.”
Yang, playing the part of Lightning’s opponent, hefted a stick in place of a sword. “I’ll never know unless I try! Miracles can happen when you believe and give it everything you’ve got!”
Ruby shook her head, and something that was almost sadness crossed her features. “You’re so naive. Effort alone cannot bridge the endless gap between us. Try as you might, your sword will never reach me.”
“Hah!” Yang dashed forward. “Take this!”
But before she could reach Ruby, she stumbled and then fell to the ground. She stared up at Ruby in disbelief. “How... how... could you...?”
Ruby turned, almost falling off the trash can, and struck an epic pose, looking over her shoulder as Yang slumped to the ground. “You were defeated before you even drew your sword. Every move you’ve made, every step you’ve taken... all of them were exactly as I predicted. That is the power of Saviour.” Ruby took a deep breath and then hopped off the trash can and ran over to Lightning. “How was that, Aunt Lightning? We watched one of your fights when you were at Beacon! It was so awesome, and you were so cool!”
“...” Lightning’s eye twitched and she did her best to smile at the little girl. “It was... great. You are Yang did a really good job re-enacting it.”
“We did, right!” Yang ran over too. “We asked mom if we could borrow an actual sword, but she said she didn’t want us cutting off our arms or anything.”
“That’s probably for the best.” As the two children went off to grab a snack inside, Lightning turned to Summer. “Was I really that... dramatic when I was younger?”
Summer giggled. “Lightning, I’m not sure if anyone at Beacon was as dramatic as you. There was actually a club of people who studied your monologues to see if they could incorporate them into their own speech.”
“...” Lightning took a deep breath. “Who was in charge of the club?’
“Well, Serah was, but I understand that Vanille was the one who gathered most of the footage. They charged membership fees and everything since they were, apparently, the ‘official’ club.”
“Of course, they were.”
“If it helps, people really did think you sounded cool.” Summer struck a pose and did her best to copy Lightning’s expression. “I pity you for having the audacity to challenge me. I’ll do my best to make your defeat quick and painless.”
“When did I say that?” Lightning asked.
“You might have said that to Jihl,” Summer said.
“Ah.” Lightning nodded. “That would probably explain at least part of why she dislikes me.” She paused. “And the fact that her Semblance does literally nothing to me.” She sighed. “I didn’t say anything that dramatic to you, did I?”
Summer smiled impishly. “Lightning, when we were dating, you once promised to slay anyone who dared to harm me and to lay waste to any foe that stood between us. It was unbelievably cheesy, but you were so earnest about it that I couldn’t help but find it romantic.”
Lightning put one hand on Summer’s shoulder. “Summer, you can never tell anyone that I said that.”
Summer snickered.
“Summer...”
“Fine.” The grin on Summer’s face was a little too big for Lightning to relax.
“Who have you already told?” Lightning asked.
“Well...”

Author’s Notes
On appearances alone, you’d think Caius would be the dramatic one on Team LFSC. Nope. It was Lightning. And you can be sure that Fang has, one more than one occasion, been only to happy to remind her.
In contrast, Fang was usually pretty laidback.
“So... do you want to surrender, or do we have to do this the hard way?” Is the kind of thing she’d say.

Time Lapse (Final Rose AU)
Lightning woke up. A warm body was pressed up against her, and she glanced down... to find Summer there instead of Fang.
For a long moment, Lightning was convinced that she’d somehow done something truly terrible. And then the small inconsistencies she hadn’t been able to put her finger on swam to the surface of her awareness.
The room they were in.
Summer’s body.
The weapons nearby.
None of them were the way they should be. All of them reminded her far too much of the past.
Wordlessly, she got out of bed, ignoring Summer’s sleepy mumbling, and took her scroll into the bathroom. She unlocked the scroll and stared numbly at the date and time it displayed.
“Shit.”
She was more than a decade and a half in the past... and that was assuming she was in her own past and not in some whacky alternate universe.
Damn it.
She needed to call Vanille... or not. Vanille wasn’t in the Senior Academy yet. She wouldn’t have met Serah or Lumina. She wouldn’t even know who Lightning was, never mind have a reason to help her. As for her own team... her gut clenched.
If her memory was right, she was still on fairly poor terms with them. At this point in time, she and Fang had... had been doing their level best to kill each other while she and Caius had maintained a polite distance. Snow had tried to make friends with her, but she’d not been in a frame of mind to do accept.
Her hands tightened into fists. She wasn’t exactly proud of how she’d acted at this point of her life. Later on, she couldn’t imagine a life without her teammates in it, but that had taken time - time for her to grow as a person and time for them to get to know each other better.
She took a deep breath.
What was she going to do?
Approaching Vanille wasn’t likely to meet with much success since Fang wouldn’t have said anything nice about her yet. And as much as she cared for Summer, the thought of just... picking up their old relationship felt wrong. Lightning was married to Fang. It didn’t matter if it hadn’t technically happened yet due to time travel or consciousness transfer. Fang was her wife, and that was that.
So who could she go to for help?
Serah might know that something was wrong. Her sister did have time powers, but she wouldn’t know about the future Lightning had come from. And Lumina? Her youngest sister would help, but what would she even be able to do?
This was so messed up.
And then her scroll began to ring.
It was Fang.
“Lightning,” Fang’s voice came over the scroll. “I know you hate my guts, but you need to pick up right now.”
Lightning took the call. “Fang?” she asked, hoping against hope that Fang had made the trip back too.
“Okay,” Fang said. “I know you’re going to think I’m crazy, but I just had two children appear in my room claiming to be our children.” The image shifted from Fang to a smiling Diana and a glaring Averia. “I asked them to prove it, and the little one has my Semblance. The older one? She might have your hair, but those eyes of hers... it’s like looking in a mirror, and my own Semblances says they’re our kids from a genetic standpoint.”
Lightning took a deep breath. “Fang... would you believe me if I said I’m from the future and so are they?”
“...” Fang’s eye twitched. “Why do we have kids in the future?”
“Because you’re married,” Diana said with a shrug. “So why isn’t mom here with you?”

Author’s Notes
It’s not something that gets pointed out as much as it once was, but Lightning wasn’t exactly a fantastic person when she was younger. It took a lot of time on Summer’s part and the experience of leading and befriending Team LFSC for her to really grow as a person. Prior to that, she had a tendency to just bulldoze over everyone else because that was what she’d needed to do to take care of herself and her sisters.
Keep in mind that since the Farron sisters were orphans, there was basically an arm’s race to try to snatch up a trio of living super weapons. Lightning’s tyranny was a rational response to that threat even if it resulted in maladaptive behaviour from a social perspective. There were even kidnapping attempts that were halted in bloody, brutal fashion followed by a promise to murder everyone involved if they tried again. Lightning would, eventually, find out about everyone who was involved in trying to gain control of her and her sisters. The results were... bloody even if no one can prove she was responsible.
Fang was actually luckier in that respect since although she was also an orphan, she was an important member of Yun society. She didn’t have to worry about outside forces trying to snatch her because anyone who tried was going to have war declared on them by the Yun.

Does that latest snippet mean that Lightning isn’t as high-strung in the FRxPokemon au as she is in the regular timeline?
Correct. Lightning in the FR x Pokemon AU basically never reaches peak Lightning levels of irritability (e.g., her irritability when she first took over Team LFSC).
Instead, she more closely resembles the older Lightning we see having a great time raising the kids. Keep in mind, young Lightning would pick fights if someone looked at her funny. Older Lightning would see Diana training an army of animals and tell her it was fine, provided they didn't make a mess and to make sure she only gave the geese non-lethal weaponry.
FR x Pokemon Lightning basically has older Lightning's outlook from a much earlier age. She's still got an unbreakable will and invincible tyranny, but she's a lot less... prickly, you could say. Having a team of pokemon made her realise, a lot earlier on, that just being a tyrant wasn't enough. Lucario has been with her from the start, and he made it clear from very early on that Lightning couldn't just bulldoze her pokemon and expect to succeed.
In fact, even Serah is a lot chiller in this AU (she's a pokemon breeder and coordinator) since going on her journey with Lumina let her have more independence, and Lightning being less prickly makes her less prickly too.
Lumina is still the chillest of the three, though, since she does still have Vanille to keep an eye on. In this AU Lumina is a doctor and pokemon doctor (Fraise is following in her footsteps) who is basically knowledgeable enough to be a pokemon professor if she wanted to. In fact, Lumina spends almost as much time corresponding with other experts as Vanille does, and her opinion is also widely sought after.
Fun fact: Cynthia knows Averia because she sought Lightning out for training when she was younger since Lightning has both a Garchomp and a Lucario. It was during one of those training trips that Cynthia and Averia met, and since they got along so well, Averia decided to seek Cynthia out when she got to Sinnoh, so they could travel together.
Fun Fact #2: Although neither Diana, Averia, nor Taren take over the ranch, the ranch does pass on to Cynthia and Averia's second daughter and Diana and ?'s eldest daughter. The two take over the ranch, expand it, and turn it and its surroundings into a full scale Pokemon Preserve.

Defender (Final Rose)
Caius had just finished disabling all of the traps and defences that Vanille had put around her team’s dorm window. Finally, he and Yeul could enjoy some time alone while the rest of her team finished some weapons-engineering-related assignments at the library. Well, it was more like while Serah and Lumina finished. Vanille, in typical hard-working but lazy fashion, had completed the assignment in about ten minutes after getting it. A normal person, however, would need at least several hours. Yeul, in another moment of foresight, had also completed her assignment early.
He was just about to open the window and step inside when he heard a noise.
He turned and found himself staring into the pitiless, cruel eyes of more than a dozen crows and ravens.
The biggest of the bunch shot him a nasty look and then began to caw loudly.
“Caw! Caw! Caw!”
“Be quiet,” Caius hissed. “You’ll trigger the backup sound sensor Vanille put in!” That sensor only detected noise from the outside of the window, so it wouldn’t be a problem once he got in, but right now he was still on the outside looking in.
The huge raven looked at him, fell silent, and then took a deep breath.
“CAW! CAW! CAW!”
There was a faint whirr before an automated voice rang out. “Potential threat detected. Window sealed. Releasing security drones now.”
“Oh crap...”
Fang tilted her head to one side. “You’re seeing that too, right?”
Lightning followed Fang’s gaze. “You mean Caius running away while being attacked by birds and Vanille’s security drones? Yes, I do see it too.”
“Shouldn’t we, you know, help him?” Snow asked.
Lightning’s lips twitched. Something that could almost have been a smile crossed her lips, not that Fang thought she looked cute or anything. “He’ll live.”

Author’s Notes
That dorm window is the equivalent of Fort Knox. Funnily enough, if Caius and Yeul just asked Vanille instead of being all sneaky, she’d probably agree to it since she just wants Yeul to be happy and she doesn’t have to worry about Lightning’s tyranny.

Training (Final Rose)
Yeul backed away as her teammates advanced on her with sticks. “What are you doing?”
Serah raised one eyebrow. “Shouldn’t you already know, Miss Sees The Future?”
“Uh...”
“Well, I am standing right here,” Vanille pointed out. “And my presence can mess up precognition.”
“True.” Serah nodded sagely. “Your Semblance is almost as bullshit as Saviour while somehow making even less sense.”
“Basically,” Lumina said. “We've been thinking, and we noticed that your Semblance has one big weakness in combat.”
“Oh?” Yeul continued to back away until she realised that there was nowhere for her to go.
“Obviously, seeing even a second into the future is immensely helpful in combat.” Vanille cackled. “But it won’t matter at all if you don’t have the speed to capitalise on what you see.”
“To make sure you have that speed.” Serah brandished her stick. “We’re going to give you some special speed training!”
“In other words,” Vanille explained. “We’re going to chase after you and whack you with sticks until you get faster.”
“What kind of crazy training system is that?” Yeul asked.
Lumina shrugged. “My sister came up with. It worked for Serah and I, and it’ll work for you too although we do need to be careful.”
Serah made a face. “Yeah. Lightning did have Saviour to make sure that she could whack us without doing any real damage. We’ll just have to pull our punches a little.”
“Not me.” Vanille raised her stick high above her head. “While you two were busy discussing where you should whack her, I was busy modifying my stick for optimal non-lethal whacking efficiency. I call it the Yeul-Whacker 9000!”
“...” Yeul swallowed thickly. “You three are jerks!”
“Maybe.” Serah stepped forward. “But by the time we’re done with you, you’ll be fast enough to survive fighting three jerks at the same time.”
Caius stared in disbelief as Yeul ducked and dodged through a storm of blows from her teammates.
“What kind of training exercise is this?” Caius asked. “They’re just trying to whack her with sticks.”
“The Yun do stuff like this all the time,” Fang pointed out. “Heck, they didn’t even bother with sticks when they were training me. They went straight to swords, clubs, and all that stuff since I’d just heal from it anyway.”
“So Vanille was the one who came up with this?” Caius asked.
“I’m not sure about that,” Snow murmured. “I remember Serah mentioning something like this to me.”
Lightning glared. “It was for training, and I used Saviour to make sure I could whack them as many times as necessary without doing any permanent damage.”
“...” Caius gaped at Lightning. “You used your Semblance for that?”
“Caius,” Lightning explained, as though it was the most obvious thing in the world. “I love my sisters more than anything in the world. Of course, I used my Semblance to make sure I didn’t do any permanent damage while I was whacking them to improve their speed and agility.”
“Do you have any idea of how insane that sounds?” Snow asked.
“I don’t know,” Fang said. “That actually sounds like one of sunshine’s more reasonable ideas.”

Years later...
Aquila backed away as Diana, Averia, and Claire advanced on her with sticks.
“Why do you have sticks?” Aquila asked.
“You have your mom’s Semblance,” Averia said. “So you need to be trained the same way as she was.”
“And what does that have to do with sticks?” Aquila continued to back up.
“Well, it’s like this...” Diana took a deep breath and then jabbed her finger at Aquila. “Get her!”

Author’s Notes
Lightning’s tyranny ensured that Lumina and Serah were two of the most dangerous people on the planet, even without their Semblances. That same training, when applied to Yeul, vastly improved her proficiency in using short-range precognition in combat. It’s only natural that Diana, Averia, and Claire would want to make sure that Aquila reaped similar rewards.
Or maybe they thought chasing after her with sticks would be funny.

Pillow Fight (Final Rose)
“Behold!” Vanille cried, brandishing the most technologically advanced pillow known to civilisation. “The Pillow Assassin 9000!”
Serah stared at the pillow in disbelief. “Did you seriously weaponise a pillow just so you can win a pillow fight?”
“Damn straight I did.” Vanille advanced on the pink-haired girl. “Finally, you shall know the bitter sting of defeat!”
“You do realise I can just stop time and whack you over the head with a pillow right?”
“You would resort to such villainy in order to win a pillow fight?” Vanille struck a pose. “And you ask why I’m weaponising pillows? That’s why.”
Yeul hefted her own pillow. “I’d just like to point out that I’ve already foreseen everything that you’re going to do. My victory is assured.”
Lumina gestured, and Aura constructs picked up every single other pillow in the room. “I have a hard time believing you’re going to win against this many pillows.”
“So... it seems we’ve got a stand off.” Vanille glanced back and forth. “Luckily, I’ve prepared for exactly this situation.” She whistled. “Pillow-bots... attack!”
The window opened and robots wielding pillows began to climb into the dorm room.
“Hahaha!” Vanille cackled. “Did you really think I wouldn’t come prepared for everything you three could do?”
Fang and Lightning circled each other. Each held a pillow case in their hands. What was troubling was how lumpy the pillow cases were.
“Hey, Caius,” Snow asked. “What’s going on with their pillows?”
The other teenager sighed. “You know how hitting someone with a pillow doesn’t usually do a lot of damage?”
“Yeah?”
“They decided to fill their pillowcases with rocks instead.”
Snow slowly lowered his own pillow. “You know what? I think I’ll stay out of this one.”

They are all idiots. I love it.
Then you have the sensible people like Summer who don't go around trying to fight snakes even though she could easily win.
Meanwhile, Raven is daring Taiyang to fight the snake and Qrow somehow ends up with the snake wrapped around his neck trying to strangle and bite him simultaneously. He then manages to get the snake off and throw it... and it lands on Summer, who is so totally done with her team's shenanigans.
Wordlessly, Snow comes over and takes the snake for its own safety. He ignores Lightning's attempts to murder the snake and Fang's suggestion that they roast the snake. Gently, he puts the snake somewhere safe where it isn't likely to encounter anyone else. Caius then says a prayer for the snake because Lightning is absolutely going to find it and try to get revenge on it for daring to fall on Summer.
Somehow, the snake survives. It rightly concludes that it's important to avoid humans since they're all obviously insane.
Years later, the snake is minding its own business when Diana stumbles across it.
