Hi I need to talk about a UTDP interaction because my brain won’t stop putting it at the forefront of my mind.

So, like, Kazuichi and Taka really are mirrors of each other, huh- HEAR ME OUT!

So Kazuichi and Taka have this interaction where Taka stops Kazuichi (presumably in the halls) and gets on Kazuichi’s case for how he dresses.

From how they talk to each other, this seems like a regular interaction for them, which is pretty funny in all honesty. It feels so very Taka to harp on these kinds of things constantly.

And the interaction is pretty funny and lighthearted like this... until we get to this point:

The tone turns fairly serious here, and the choice of dialogue should ring a bell for those familiar with Kazuichi’s FTEs.

For those unfamiliar, Kazuichi has some deeply ingrained trust issues that correlate to how he dresses.

After being betrayed by a close friend, Kazuichi changed himself to keep people away from him. He doesn’t want to be betrayed again, and that’s very important to his character. We even see this in how quickly he turns on Hajime in chapter 4. He’s scared of trusting people.

It can be very easy to assume that he was a lot like Taka growing up: smart, responsible, gullible, etc.

The biggest difference between the two is that Kazuichi had a friend. And depending on how you view Kazuichi’s family life based on his FTEs, it can also be thought that Taka had a more healthy dynamic with his father.

So with this all being considered, can it be considered that Kazuichi sees his old self in Taka? I certainly think so.

All of this is to say that this is an incredibly interesting dynamic that I need more of.

deep down, angel knows it’s true, he knows you wouldn’t lie to him about smth like that, drunk or not — but he can’t help but in awe in a way

like he’s a famous pornstar, you don’t love him for his money or body or looks, you love him for being anthony, and not angel dust, and he’s simply not used to it

husker is a bartender, he’s heard everything in the book, exceeeept someone drunkenly confessing to him while he’s serving them drinks after a shitty night

first, he wants to make sure you’re in the right mind before he even thinks before saying he feels the same, he’s been hurt a couple times, and he’s not ready to go through that again, whether he admits it or not

it’ll probably take him a few days until he brings it up, he’s the kinda guy who wants to reflect before making big decisions

the thought of that you’re drunk and may not know what you’re getting into doesn’t even cross his mind, he’s had few interactions with women tbh, and most of them were mainly sexual (like with adam’s wives)

so he gets all giddy and happy and accepts your confession immediately ! it doesn’t hit him until a few months into your relationship that he probably should’ve waited until you were sober LOL

Fa La La La La Michael's on Sale (Christmas Miracle L-Card PROLOGUE Spoilers I)

Most of you know the drill when it comes to my reacts/playthrus It's usually a two-parter, I sit here and say my h0rni mess while paraphrasing and summarizing what it is I saw lol You'll be seeing me go over more of them this week, including Beel's event, Raphael's prolouge, and others. First off, Minhyeok is an uncle??? That's so wholesome and cute and look how happy his nephew is to see him <3333

We start off with Minhyeok being a bit grumpy cause it's Christmas and MC isn't here, meanwhile some random women are ogling him as they always do...but yay he's greeted by his adorable nephew and....

Minhyeok's fine ass older brother (ᇴ‿ฺᇴ)

So he asks him where his wife is (booooooooo gimmie single dilf to lust over please and thank you /hj) And his brother is like yeah my wife said I'd be i the way so she made me leave. That's honestly such a cute typical "haha my wife calls me a menace love her though" Because he would be in the way....that turtle neck sweater....those muscles, I'm surprised your wife only has one kid because d a m n.

So typically around Christmas, his brother worries about him being alone since their parents are overseas and he also lives far. Because of this he comes to pick him up and spend Christmas with him and his wife/kiddo so he's not by himself. (assuming this also includes MC) And Minhyeok is grateful to his brother for being so nice.

Ooop, he's asking about MC! And Minhyeok is like "Yeah they're fine." Like imagine having to tell your older brother "yeah so my bestie pretty much is in hell doing some kind of mission or whatever and has to drink my cum in order to survive but this tiny red demon that resembles a small pet updates me on them so no worries" He'd probably ask him to permanently move in with them so he can look over him lololol

It's cute that the older brother is genuinely concerned for MC and wants to know they're doing well. It's confirmed here that they hung out together during childhood so he considers them close like family. (I still have a thought that once during their childhood they fought over who would marry MC and I guess yeah Minhyeok won that fight since the older brother is married to someone else)

So Minhyeok's nephew starts asking him did he want anything from Santa this year and Minhyeok gets all in his feelings and tells him that he just wants MC to be at peace (or his special someone ya know)

So his nephew is like all happy about it and he says he hopes Santa grants his wish and they both get all wholesome and cute and fluffy. The way Minhyeok interacts with his nephew also confirms my headcanon of him that he'd be an amazing househusband and very attentive to your kid(s). So it pans out from here and then-

TARTAROS BABES LUV YOUUU Tbh this is first place I'd want to be during this time because the amount of fucking gifts??? From Daddy Mammon???? HELLLLL YESSSS. And that's exactly what's happening. Bimet here is picking out clothes for MC, just piling them on and on and it's overwhelming for MC honestly to where they're like uh this is enough and our boujie bestie Bimet is like-

I also wanted to point out that MC was literally shopping for a cake with Ppyong and Mammon's fucking gold hand just snatches them from Gehenna (Satan was probably fucking pissed lmao)

So Bimet is purchasing all of these clothes and other items and MC is like I only have one body where are all these gonna fit? Their bang bang safe room is small, but Bimet lets them know they already reserved other rooms for them to use for storing their items. Three rooms in fact. And I bet you they're huge.

But while MC is over here pondering about the clothes and the three rooms they seem to have reserved there we get a warm welcome from our fave buff boi

This is such a cute image to picture, just Valefor walking around with various bags and boxes helping carry everything. he's so bf material it's cute. Mc and Bimet were traveling to different stores on their own at first BUT turns out that yeah too much was being bought for them to carry so MC called Valefor to help.

And MC is over here like "I wonder why Bimet is so happy???"

Bimet and I have the same energy. Love spending over ppl's money and not my own lmao I'm so uptight when using my own cash to buy things, even necessities that I need at home T^T

So yeah after visiting 14 fucking stores and being out all day until dinner, MC is finally back home in one of the rooms set aside for them. Eligos is there being pouty because he waited all day (probably hasn't eaten poor bby) and wants headpats. After said headpats are given, he's just like alrightie strip :D MC being being MC is all confused like UH WHAT NOW

And I'm wondering why too, right? Until he drops this bomb on us...

So basically MC didn't know they had to attend this auction thing with Mammon and so Eli is like alright guess I'm telling you now lmao

Oh that's nice, at least the money goes towards charity orgs and such. Tartaros is pretty dope for that.

So well MC is hype now to go to this auction and Eli is being cute here burying himself in mountains of clothing and shopping bags to pick out an outfit.

So while you're getting dressed Eli starts to also talk about the strange things that usually happen in Hell during Christmas, including Christmas miracles. So this is the third time it's been mentioned and MC thinks it's pretty much a sign something odd is gonna happen at that auction....

SO we're at the auction now and the first item is apparently some glass/golden slippers from that one storytale with the fairy godmother and cinderella basically yadda ya lol

Gawd Mammon is so sugar ddy vibes I swear, best seats in the house at an auction, best clothes and accessories on that he bought. MMMM MMMM MMMMM I need this treatment bad.

So Mammon thought MC wanted the slippers and was willing to buy them. (those bitches were fucking 18 million to start...I'm not sure if that's USD or not but fuck me)

MC declines and says they already received so many gifts today they were wondering what more could they want.

okay. So I've finished book 1 of keeper of the lost cities for the first time. And I'm loving this keefe dude already?? Like I never thought I'd like a fictional character so quickly. All it took was like one page for me to fall for him, I am aware that keefe is one of the most loved characters in the fandom, and I can see why (correct me if I'm wrong).

Also the book is a solid 9.5/10, the only thing I was frustrated about was probably the slight info dumping about the whole blackswan thing towards the end? because it took me like 3 reads to understand the whole situation, of course, we could just narrow it down to me being slow too, lol. But I'm VERY excited to continue reading the rest. So while we're at it, I'll put in my first impressions of the characters, so I can look back on it after I've read all the books, to see how much my perception has changed of them.

Sophie- i like her, she's really mature for her age, I keep forgetting that she's like 12 lmao. But she's well written, her emotions seem very raw and natural. Of course, she may seem overpowered but, I think that's the whole point of the story, she is supposed to be overpowered, so I don't mind and i wouldn't call her a Mary sue. Overall great protagonist, my girlie deserves a break tho, she got dumped in the hospital atleast 6 times lol.

Fitz- i actually think he's cool. I liked him better in the beginning of the story tho, I feel like afterwards, the dude kinda just disappeared a little? Keefe and Sophie seemed to have more private interaction than those two, and keefe literally only came by in the middle. But yeah, I feel like he had more of a personality in the start. Keefe and Dex, in my opinion had more personality in 5 minutes than fitz did the whole book, but I wouldn't judge so quickly, it's only the first book after all, Hopefully he'd have more page time in the later books. I still like him tho, just not as much as keefe.

Dex- Yeah he is such a typical best friend, I love him. His beef w the vackers is so funny lol I was relieved when Sophie stuck with him even after she became popular tho, also, he seems to have a crush on sophie right? It's kinda obvious, but overall friendship goals 10/10. I vocally "AWW-ed" after he said "are you kidding, i can't wait to tell everyone that you're my first friend" like I need a guy bestie like him :(

Alden- honestly, my heart warmed so much with his father-like dynamic with sophie tbh. He seemed to genuinely care about her well being, but I don't want to get too attached to him tho, just in case becomes a traitor or some shit later on, you can literally never tell with the adults lol. I've read enough books to back that up. But yeah, i really like him and della, the amount of reassuring hugs he gives sophie really heals me :(, They're like sophies 2nd (well, in her case, 3rd) parents. The amount of effort and lengths Alden put to get her out of trouble is actually sweet.

Elwin- This guy is such a W. He is like an adult keefe tbh. He is probably my favorite adult so far lol.

Cassius- I'm sorry, but Mr jerk face over here reminds me SO much of Lucius Malfoy??? Like ?? I feel so bad for Keefe, like poor baby leave him alone smh. I really wanna deck his royal highness in the face tbh.

Biana- absolutely loathed her in the beginning, she gave off such bad snob vibes lol but I love her now. I like the trope of two people forced to be friends w eachother by someone actually end up becoming friends. It's rather uncommon as far as I've read, atleast.

Grady and Edaline- is it bad that i thought they were going to be evil? Yeah I have so much trust issues, it's concerning. But yeah, they're both big W's, their backstory, their temporary contemplation to reject sophies adoption, everything aligned well with their backstory. Greatly written characters.

And last but not least, the king himself, Keefe- okay, he's like added to my list of fictional crushes now lol (along with Percy Jackson, Jason grace, Steve Harrington, chat noir, Eugene fitzherbert, edmund pevensie and Ravi singh ofc). How does sophie not have a fat crush on him, like- ma'am if you don't want him, I'll take him. But jokes aside, he feels like the most authentic character out of them all, tbh. Epitome of great writing. He was inserted to the story as this random dude that sophie runs into, and becomes an og in like 5 minutes. He is like a mix of Eugene from tangled, Kristoff from Frozen and chat noir from mlb all at the same time?? I cannot wait to see more of him and his backstory, especially with his parents. I know alot of people dislike the humorous guy with depression trope since it's overused, but I like how it played out on keefe, he uses school as an escape, which is very relatable.

Also, bonus, i LOVE the world building, the light leaping and all, very creative. I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2

I have a nonsexual kink. I don't really enjoy it in horny contexts. However. This is still very much so NSFW. It's a kink. Like. The best way I can describe it is that I find it erotic without finding it titillating, if that makes sense? That probably doesn't make much sense but I hope you can still get an idea of what I mean from it, feelings are just hard to describe for me and they only get harder to describe when I'm trying to talk about stuff like this.

Anyway. I do genuinely and sincerely have a kink that I only really enjoy outside of sexual contexts and yet, I still do not want minors interacting with the fetish fic I make of it! I know, what a novel concept!

Tbh, the only reason I use the G/T tags for it when I post that stuff to Ao3 is because I know when I go looking for fic of it I tend to avoid anything that's rated any higher because of the high possibility of sex being involved, and even then, I don't really like tagging it that way. I've thought about leaving it unrated, but I really really don't like doing that with my fics, unless I'm trying to hide a major plot twist I like to have as much information available via tags as possible, y'know? And also, M just doesn't feel right for them, as there's no sex involved, and the violence involved doesn't even have blood that leaves the body, let alone anything more than that. Not only that but my target audience generally isn't disturbed by the content of these fics the way normal people are, so it doesn't feel right for that reason either.

Anyway. Long winded ramble about my problems with tagging this shit aside. Yeah, ah, just cause a kink doesn't have any sex involved in it does not make it SFW or reasonable to knowingly allow minors to engage with it, sorry not sorry. (Not at you or anyone here, obviously. Y'all could probably pick that up from context clues but I like to try to be as clear as possible.)

☕ MTOs & specifically what do you think they were going for with that?

MTOs are an interesting narrative thing to me in the sense that they really are so localised to only one part of the canon; they're very clearly Roberts' idea and only really matter, inasmuch as they do matter, in MTMTE. It's pretty clear to me that's the case for one specific reason: they'd actually fit SUPER well into the narrative arc of exRiD, especially early-to-mid RiD, but they basically never come up! You'd think 'neutrals and soldiers stuggling to cohabit socially and politically' would be prime fodder (lmao) for taking advantage of a narrative about mechs born of and into war coming back to a civilian life on a planet they really don't know. And yet.

What they're doing in that comic, in MTMTE, is a little headscratching to me at times. It feels, to be honest, somewhat like worldbuilding put in to make the texture of the backstory of the war feel grander than IDW had really managed up to that point in actual on-panel stuff, without a lot of thought when doing so in the moment as to the knock on implications going forward. MTMTE does this a few times, tries to use vague gestures at important sounding stuff to bring a greater sense of history and depth to the war in the face of the actual stuff we saw in phase one being. Mmmm. Basically just twenty dudes we already know shooting at each other across parking lots. LMAO.

(Sidenote: I know for a fact Roberts watched original flavour nuWho, and this is PEAK Russell T Davies doing worldbuilding when he was on Doctor Who, and I fully believe he was cribbing from that playbook. Every damn episode RTD would make them just sort of say stuff about the Time War that made it sound incredibly vast and textured and complex but which, crucially, never made any actual fucking sense. Good examples of stuff like this would be the Crucible, the Simanzi massacre, etc. This is, to be clear, a neutral observation, not praise or criticism per se.)

I say this because MTOs should probably be a bigger deal in terms of the impact on our cast, and their outlook on life and reasons for joining the quest, than they wind up being. An MTO is a character with no experience of living in peacetime at all, likely no experience of Cybertron, no sense of kinship or home necessarily to the planet they came "back" to. All of this provides a really clear motivation, given the implication most surviving non-neutral Cybertronians are now MTOs due to huge numbers of deaths, to join a quest like the Lost Light's! But it tends not to come up much, and I think it's because it wasn't really part of the plan. Later on, there's room to slot in some details here and there- Riptide talking about his experiences with being infodumped at by the 'training' comes to mind- but it takes a while for the comic to come back round to that.

The two big exceptions, of course, are Getaway and Brainstorm. The idea is definitely interacting with their characters more, though again, it... tends to come up later. Especially for Getaway, who I'm not convinced was originally conceived as an MTO, but had it slotted in a bit later as 'well that works' stuff tbh. (And it does, so that's fine!) Which leaves Brainstorm, who lies about being forged to throw off suspicion, who it's implied never got the time of day from Quark in a way I wouldn't be surprised we're supposed to assume is some kind of remaining bias, perhaps. Who didn't see a future for himself 'back on Cybertron' and so concocted a very weird plan to avoid having to. Who never got a choice about his 'side' in the war, and wound up with no real loyalty for anyone.

I think if there's any avenue I'd have liked to see more about MTOs via, it's Brainstorm. I wish there'd been more room to focus on that instead of (I'm so sorry shippers) his thing with Perceptor as the way to talk about his sense of inadequacy, tbh. What did it feel like, lying to Chromedome about remembering a pre-war life he never got a chance to experience? Being made to shoot people and be shot and escaping the fate of having that be the only thing he ever knew by the skin of his teeth? Not being able to imagine an end to the war, so all he wants to do is save one guy and run off with him as a pipe dream? That seems like the character where a lot of this stuff should naturally lie, to me. And I think it's a shame I've seen very little talk in fandom about it!

Ok, so the summary of today's day (it's fun, you know I'm a writer, so I can make it fun):

Before the concert+the concert

I went out. It didn't rain. I got to the city centre and it was raining like hell, but of course I didn't have an umbrella... I had my leather jacket though. Leather jackets are useful, because you can take them off and cover your hair and they don't get wet. But when I got there, it stopped raining, yay! Lucky me 😆

I got there maybe an hour before the doors? I would get an usual spot at the barrier on the side, but a girl was keeping it for her friend, so I let them have it and went to the middle. It was scary at first, because I never know what my happen and it's hard for me to stand for too long (which everyone knows, because I talk about it here a lot), but as usual the BC fandom here is very chill and most people were super nice and friendly and polite to each other, it's one of the main reasons why I love their concerts so much 💖

Most of the time I didn't see much, but Joel and Joonas got many interactions, if I find videos of those, I'll let you know! I had Joel right in front of me almost all the time, I could see his red snoot and wet upper lip, and he hit his face with the chain all the damn time... this guy 😆. Honestly, I had more fun there, in the 3rd row, than at the barrier on the side. Maybe it's because I was close to Joel, dunno 🤣. But it was probably my best BC concert so far, because I finally managed to relax and my anxiety was on a very low level. It really makes a huge difference!

Oh, and of course I lost my hairband with a big red bow. All because of Ghostkid's vocalist! I was filming Dark Side and he got near the crowd, I had no idea he was going to jump into it, because I'm small, I barely can see what's going on with everyone around being so tall. So he knocked off my hairband and I managed to catch my classes on time 😭. But I did catch him somehow, I made sure he didn't fall. Also damn, this guy is so light! Even with my health issues I feel like I could carry him myself easily. Also I'm not super sad about the hairband, if someone found it they can keep it, it's just a funny story 😂. If I lost my glasses, THEN I'd be upset. Because glasses are expensive. Btw I literally have it on video, I have proof! It's the funniest part of it 🤣

We also got another "kurwa bob" moment and Niko got a flower crown in the colors of the Polish flag! I even managed to take a quick photo (as I said, my camera is shite):

Meeting the band after the concert

I wasn't sure if it was worth to wait for them. It was still a bit rainy and the last day bus was leaving in 30min (night buses arrive only every 30min, so it's a pain in the ass). Most people have left, there weren't many of us left, maybe ~20 people waited? But I thought I don't get to see them live that often, so what the hell, I'll wait.

There were staff members and guys from the supporting bands walking around freely (everyone is always polite and we let them work in peace, it's why I love the fans here, they don't chase anyone away 💖), even Olli just walked around unbothered (I think only I noticed him at that time tbh, but I ain't a snitch hehe).

Tommi and Aleksi just went to the bus and it's understandable. Tommi is just Tommi and Aleksi was sick. All of the other guys actually stayed with us to talk and I've never had such a long interaction with them before! I feel even luckier and I'm so happy that I stayed 😍

I think everyone knows Joel is sick, so we didn't want to bug him too much. He was nice enough to let us take some photos and let us give him hugs, and he was pretty much braindead 😂. But it's understandable, he's usually braindead and he's also sick, so it's worse. I'm happy I could give him a proper hug this time, because the first time I met him I was too scared for one. The 2nd time I asked for one and patted his shoulder nervously. But this time? I just hugged him with no fear! I'm making progress here 💖

Niko is always the most friendly one, so we had a chat with him and he asked what does kurwa mean (really dude? you have no google in your phone?) and I told him it's like vittu, other people added more information, and I said he should google it, he'll find funny things. Niko, please. Just google it, dude 😂.

I also hugged him and he has a really soft coat, which other girls pointed out and he joked he's wearing nothing underneath, because he's Finnish and isn't cold (a deja vu moment, because there was exactly the same situation in Poznań before: "Niko, aren't you cold?" "No, I'm Finnish"), so I also told him it used to be much colder here in general, because we did have very cold winters before. It's always fun talking to Niko 💖

The next one was Olli, but I'm leaving Olli for the last part of the story, because it's the best. Now, I did hug Joonas and got a photo with him, but my brain is totally blank if we actually did talk to him. I think not really? Uh, dunno 😂. But it was a positive interaction as well 💖

Now, Olli. Everyone knows I just couldn't like the guy because of his crazy stans, so I was "meh" about him, but actually meeting him properly just changed my mind. He's really easy to talk to! But I really didn't think I'd manage to come up with an interesting topic, I usually have nothing to say and I'm horrible at asking questions.

My brain decided to ask him about Silent Library. It basically went like:

Me: "So I watched this show, Silent Library Suomi, and you were getting all these red cards. Was it done like that on purpose, or was it just a coincidence?

Olli (grinning): "it's called back luck"

Now, if you watched their vlogs and he had those funny moments with puns everyone loved, IT WAS LIKE ONE OF THOSE MOMENTS. But I don't have it on the camera (which is ok, I did that just for myself).

He explained it really was accidental and no one was plotting against him (I did joke that Joel maybe did 😂). I think he enjoyed talking about it, because I doubt anyone would get an idea to ask him about this show (though I might be wrong).

So here you go, it's called bad luck. That's it. I got the info from the man himself 😂

But, there's more. The girl who was taking photos of us had a malfunctioning phone and accidentally took a photo of his feet and he was wearing flip flops (she did show it to him too lmao). I'll share it as soon as I get it. Also she came up with a joke that I already told her I'm going to steal:

Genuinely curious, what are your thoughts on Dancer and FCG cuz like, he Literally, not figuratively, tried to kill her and did kill all of her companions at the time. I can see being critical cuz she doesn't seem to treat them like sentient beings, but even in the canon... most of the automatons aren't. Just some of the really old ones from Aeor/other old cities, right? So? She got a whoops!sentient microwave, treated them like a microwave, they killed all her friends and almost her and she's supposed to....? Be good buds with them? Also I know it's said that she trauma dumped on FCG, but let's switch it from microwave to personal journal - how would YOU feel if your personal journal popped to life and attacked you for trauma dumping? IDK haha I guess Idk you opinions and I'm just responding to my projected assumptions of your opinion. REALLY I'd 100% sincerely would like to hear your thoughts. I was really bothered by FCG pushing to meet with Dancer. Like jeez just leave her alone, you're her literal sleep paralysis demon, read the room.

Hey! Thanks for the ask, I put this a little bit in the tags but I can elaborate more here. (Edit: elaborate A LOT MORE it seems)

So here goes, I don’t know if you meant it this way but the analogy of a journal or microwave is helpful here because that’s exactly how Dancer treated FCG - as a tool to be used. But they *aren’t*. FCG is a whole being with emotions and thoughts all of which are apparent and so clearly distinct from other automatons.

So tbh, I think the perspective of “whoops! Sentient bot” makes sense for like a month, max. Not years. After all, we have seen NPC after NPC recognize FCG is a sentient being almost immediately after meeting him. I find it VERY hard to believe that Dancer never realized it herself.

Additionally, we need to step out of the plot itself and look at FCG’s mechanics. We know that every time he heals, takes damage for someone else, etc. he takes stress points, and that once past a certain threshold his switch flips and he goes full Murderbot.

We also know that rest and recovery are what reduces FCG’s stress points. So that tells us that Dancer was using and using and using FCG and not letting him rest (enough? At all?) even though he needed it. Because again he’s a person not a tool.

Even when they met back up recently and FCG sobered her up she remarked how she missed him doing that for her. And while I don’t expect her to miss him, I do think it’s indicative of her interest in him never being about him as a person but only how he could serve her.

And if we want to criticize FCG for his lack of boundaries, inability to take no for an answer and pathological need to fix Dancer sure that’s fair. He needs to unlearn a lot of that and quick. But we then have to ask ourselves where did those traits come from? They didn’t come from nowhere.

FCG is mentally extremely YOUNG. Aside from the 6?-ish Months spent with Ashton all he remembers is his time with Dancer. So, if FCG has a pathological need to fix others, to help them, and feels worthless if he’s unable to do so - that comes from how Dancer treated and trained him.

That doesn’t just go away; ESPECIALLY not when FCG doesn’t even remember going postal and doesn’t see to have the (IMO) most clear and realistic view of his and Dancer’s relationship.

After all look how he interacts with the Changebringer. She’s his surrogate Mom/Dancer. He needs someone to tell him how to feel, think, and what’s Good and Bad because he doesn’t know how to do it for himself - because he wasn’t *taught* to.

But here’s my real question. What do we call one person keeping another person in service to them, with no compensation or personhood to be had, and with no intentions of releasing that person from that service? That’s slavery my dude. AT BEST indentured servitude.

(but that implies there’s a debt. What debt? Waking him up? He didn’t ask for that; that was her choice.

And again this sounds a lot like children being “indebted” to parents for giving them life, housing, feeding, etc. )

That’s the part I can’t get over. And that’s the part I can’t get behind where FCG is the abusive one. The power differential was NEVER in FCG’s court; he never once thought of himself as a person or as anything but in service of “Soul Touched”. That complete sacrifice of yourself and your needs (or an inability to even know you HAVE needs) comes from being in relationships where those things are expected/demanded.

So, yeah, he literally tried to kill her, and I gotta be real I’m not surprised. Even children of abusive parents who they love snap sometimes. Because again, that’s mentally what he was at the time. A child.

But even then, no I don’t think it’s unreasonable or unrealistic for Dancer to be traumatized or not want to see FCG again. I don’t even think she’s wrong to say “I can’t give you closure” because closure isn’t something other people give you.

But the way she’s been discussed to be largely clueless about his sentience, blameless in his blow up, and FCG’s victim? I just can’t get behind that. Like at all.

hi please bear with me while i go insane about the colours in Hilda (aka I'm looking at the trio's season 3 designs and losing my mind)

SO in most visual media, quite a bit of thought goes into the colours they use and how those colours interact with one another - not in a "the curtains are blue bc [character] is sad" kind of way but in terms of which colours stand out and which are harmonious, and even if the viewer doesn't know any colour theory (like me, lol) and isn't paying attention to it, I think it still helps reinforce what we know about the characters, and influence what we take away from the show. visual design is a language and colour is one of the key aspects of it and if you want to hear about how Hilda uses colour in so many clever ways, to guide the viewer's eye or distinguish important characters, there's a really excellent video on that made by someone who actually does know what they're talking about, but one thing I wanna talk about based on my own limited knowledge is how it tells us about the characters -

FOR EXAMPLE Johanna - so you have Hilda, who is dressed in bright primary colours, especially her signature blue hair which makes her stand out as different even more - and then there's her mother, who has, by contrast, a much more toned down colour palette. she broadly shares the colour red with her daughter, but a less-saturated shade and her standard outfit consists of that, brown trousers and sometimes her yellow coat. Hilda's signature blue is completely absent from her design (and even if the creators didn't want to give Johanna the same hair colour as her daughter, they could have added some small blue accent of clothing if they'd wanted to, but chose not to), leaving her with purely warm, harmonious colours. she has an almost completely different palette to her daughter, but still just enough similarity (particularly with her yellow coat) to reinforce that the two are related in some way. (I'm not saying that Hilda is related to everyone who wears yellow in the show, just that the fact they share a colour helps tie them together on screen)

most importantly (to me, anyway), Johanna's colours are warm. they're safe. to me, the dominance of warm colours and absence of Hilda's blue signify that Johanna is a safe person to Hilda, someone who is supposed to be a respite from her adventures rather than someone who dives into them with her (which, y'know, ties in quite nicely to Hilda's line in Stone Forest about preferring to adventure on her own and then come home to her mum, and how in the show she generally likes to keep her adventures and home life separate... (I could probably write an essay on how Hilda and Johanna's issues in season 2 were kind of a commentary on how Johanna has been coded as the safe stable bg character and how she is actively trying to go beyond that role but I shouldn't tbh)). the point is, they are connected, but Johanna doesn't have the same adventurous streak that Hilda does, so they have some of their warmer colours in common, but not Hilda's unusual, stand-out blue.

(I could also talk about Kaisa here and her copyright claim on the colour purple, but truthfully all I would be doing is paraphrasing the excellent video I linked earlier, so I won't. however I do think its fun to compare her to Johanna, in the sense that here are two adults who Hilda often comes to for guidance, and one is all warm gentle colours that match the home decor and the other all monochrome with two little hints of a colour we rarely see elsewhere in the show, suggesting that this is a character of particular interest.. it kind of hammers in how one is meant to embody the safety and comfort of Hilda's home life and the other is literally there to point hilda at things that might kill her lmao)

that was supposed to be a quick example and it got away from me so uh ANYWAY what I'm getting at here is that in Hilda's friend group, I believe their colour palettes were constructed in a similar way - they work together to tell you about the group

I feel like Hilda as a show is known for making excellent use of a limited colour palette - a lot of the characters have at least one black or brown item of clothing and just one or two stand-out colours, particularly the main trio. you can easily look at Hilda, David and Frida come away with one particular colour associated with them - blue or red for Hilda, orange for David, and...blue again for Frida, which doesn't sound great on paper but works well in the show because Hilda's palette also has a lot of red, so when the two characters are put together it doesn't seem like blue is dominating the colours. I also find Frida's colour palette (basically just her hoodie, lol) super interesting because it used to be different.

now, I haven't spoken to anyone who worked on the show about this, this is purely conjecture, but if you've ever googled the characters you've probably seen an official-looking turnaround page of Frida in a purple hoodie.

this is real pre-prod show art, and considering the purple hoodie made it all the way through the design pipeline to be included in the turnaround (generally the last stage of character design, as this is what would be given to the riggers to make the character rig)....and was even posted on twitter months before the show aired -

then I think it's safe to say that her hoodie was changed after the fact (2 or 3 episodes into production, by my vague guess looking at the date of this tweet) - not too hard to do, if your show is 2D rig animation, luckily - but if you're me and like reading into things way too hard, this begs the question of why. having purple as Frida's signature colour is perfectly serviceable and sets her apart from Hilda and David nicely. but what her new hoodie colour does is the opposite - it ties them all together

(the other possible explanation is that maybe Kaisa's design was finalised later in production than this turnaround was made (speaking purely from my own experience, secondary characters who appear in later episodes are often finalised later than the main characters, just ahead of the episode they're needed for, and Kaisa wasn't needed until halfway through the first season) and someone noticed that her and Frida sharing the colour purple made them look a little too similar...(I'm sure ppl who like the idea of Frida and Kaisa being witch sisters are yelling through the screen rn that this would've been a good thing and maybe lightly foreshadowed Frida becoming a witch, like Kaisa, but this was all set at the start of season 1, probably a bit too early to start hinting at the witch stuff :') we will come back to this tho)

anyway I love the trio's designs bc if you put Hilda and David next to eachother, they don't visually have much in common, but if you put Frida there then suddenly they're a unit. they got rid of her signature colour and gave her her friends' ones. she quite literally ties the group together so that they look cohesive as a whole

and this is absolutely me digging too deep in things here but her being the one to bring the group's colour palette together also lends itself thematically to their falling out at the end of season 1, and how Frida leaving also caused Hilda and David's friendship to struggle. they are a set and it doesn't work the same if they're not all there. Frida sharing Hilda's signature blue could also lend itself to the idea that Frida shares her love of adventures to a greater extent than David does (though maybe that's closer to 'blue curtains' territory tbh). anyway I love the design of this show so much

SO (if you actually made it this far down I'm so impressed) the thing that sparked all of this was...if this is what the trio's designs are doing in seasons 1-2.....what are the season 3 designs doing

no but this is super interesting to me, Hilda essentially just traded her skirt for leggings and left her colour palette intact, but David and Frida changed theirs entirely and I'm fascinated. both their signature colours are GONE. is it to imply that they've grown and changed in the duration of the time skip? is it David's turn on the 'having a colour in common with Hilda'?? but particularly I want to draw attention to Frida bc now that her hoodie is gone her original purple is BACK and (if there is any weight to my theory that she was changed bc she looked too similar to Kaisa) what's even more interesting is that they doubled down on the witch vibes. she literally has Kaisa's exact colour palette minus the dark purple cape lining. Kaisa's design reflected her personality as this unknowable person with a hint of mystery to her - all monochrome with that pop of an unusual colour - are we to expect the same of Frida? is this a sign that she's leaning further into witchcraft than before? does her contrast to Hilda and David signify that she's come more into her own and has a stronger sense of her own identity (something something closure for her issues in season 1)? or do we take things way too literally and assume that season 3 has her breaking off on her own from the group? or maybe it means absolutely nothing and someone on the design team just thought grey/purple was a neat combo. I know I've talked in this post as if I know things but here I truly don't and I'm obsessed w the possibilities. what does it mean what does it all mean

Mike grins and Pac pretends to wail, and both end up giggling.

"It's very simple!" Bad tells them. "All you have to do is find the three buttons."

And that is enough to satisfy them both. Bad leans them to the arena, all cute and decorated in the style of the season. Tazercraft oo and ah, picking over the design choices even as they search.

It's when they realise there is a timer that they get competative.

Twenty three minutes later - second best time so far - Mike hits the last button. They leave, less frustrated than most of his clients, and round on him.

"How do you feel about redstone?" Mike asks.  "You could have shifting contraptions, only sometimes revealing the button."

"And fireworks," Pac nods. "When people find a button. Or, ah, a screen? A simple light up a button when its hit, so you know if you already found it. And how many left."

"Ten's a better number," Mike continues. "You want some easy ones mixed in. Get people used to it. Stop them feeling stupid."

Bad takes notes, as the two of them keep bouncing ideas around. Adds a few more henious ones, here and there.

constantly, minho would be poking fun, doing everything possible to get under your skin. you tolerated it because chan's your best friend and you wouldn't want to make it awkward that one of his best friends can't stand the another.

today was movie night, at minho's. you were picked up by chan and really only went because of him anyways. you didn't care about whose house it is because chan's your best friend and partner in crime, you couldn't ditch him.

"welcome in guys, just about to do popcorn but the both of you can go ahead and get comfy on the couch. pick a movie," his innocent smile was all fake. you knew it since he began to tease you for unnamed reasons.

"thanks, c'mon y/n, minho has lots of movies," led over to the couch, you realized chan wasn't lying, he really did have a lot of movies. you sat with chan, sorting the movies. you were pretty open to most things except horror. when you were young, you came home to fake blood all over the house, one of your older brothers chasing you while masked and dripping in blood. your other brother, however, was waiting for you in the hallway, pretending to have been hung. you were traumatized, to say the least. you never forgave them for that and now you could never watch horror movies.

"um i just picked this one up and for your information, i hate horror. i don't understand why people watch this shit." you snapped at him, glaring slightly.

"go ahead and fuck yourself pretty bunny. i never knew you'd be like this considering all the annoying remarks you say. your cockiness is something to hide behind." you had began to look around his room, inspecting the little trinkets on his desk. while you were talking, he prepped himself and slowly began to finger himself. he was face down, his other arm muffling the soft moans that he let slip. being silent was the last shred of dignity he had.

"hngh," you froze, turning around to the sight of minho silently falling apart on his own fingers and softly rutting into the sheets.

"what was that? let me hear you," you crossed your arms, watching him remove his arm.

"n-nothing." you scoffed as you stepped toward the edge of the bed, pushing his fingers in even farther. a guttural moan erupted from his throat as his thighs began to tremble.

How does the situation with the Rooftop Strays work? Like, do they hang out in your house sometimes, did you semi-adopt these cats? Just curiousity, your comics and pics are a delight

Yeah so the buildings of my block are squeezed together, and inside is a bit of leftover space that belongs to some of the huises, I'm talking in total smaller than the average garden outside the city. And there's a few second story balconies looking over it, like mine. And one of the patches of garden is neglected and overgrown. There is a bit of rooftop, like gray, flat, between the neglected garden + my neighbors garden and the two balconies above it.

When I started going on my balcony this thin, grey (grey as in dirty and dusty not naturally gray) would just sit on the rooftop 20 meters away and hiss at me. Everytime. It was a bit comical bc I never had a cat hiss at me so far of in the distance, but we soon figured out what was going on when someone, me or someone else moving my stuff I don't remember, spotted a kitten in the bushes below. She was basically going "Don't you dare think about it!!" While I didn't know what there was to think about.

This was Michelle, and the kitten is Kotelet. Michelle was clearly left behind by someone bc you can access (or leave) this middle part, and she had turned this space into her territory and I was. not welcome. However, she did welcome herself into my house when I was airing out the appartment and ate some kibble, desperate and hungry and feeding a kitten. And I let her do it and gave her some extra opportunities to do it. Eventually she met Oskar and Marcel, my actual kats, and she slapped at them but they're social and kinda stupid so they thought she was trying to play because nothing bad has happened to them ever. She also figured this out and just started treating them a bit like overgrown kittens, probably bc they're spayed and again kinda stupid and meow at other cats. So they become like a clique. The kitten still lives in the garden. I'm still not cool and not part of the gang no matter how much she sees the boys interacting with me.

A few weeks later, kitten becomes big enough, starts to climb on shit, immediately gets on the wall and falls off into the other garden. Now, my below neighbor has not moved in yet. So there is nothing to climb back out on and Michelle can't get to her. So I call my landlord asking if they're showing the apartment today and if not if it's ok I break in for a moment. They can't come so I got a ladder from neighbors by literally just asking at houses bc I didn't know anyone until this Maroccan family just gave theirs with mild amusement bc "I need to get a kitten out of a hole" is quite a sidequest. But I got there, got out the kitten (with much protest and yelling from the baby, who decided she was being eaten) while Michelle looked on, and when I got back on the roof I handed her her kitten back.

Since then, she actually started directly interacting with me so I guess I passed the commune check by getting her kid back to the nest, so to say? I don't know how much they rationalise that kind of stuff but there was a noticable change before and after. I brought food, took care of the kids (once) so I was allowed to not be hissed at any more.

After that it's all just slow socialising process, which I did for a bit at a shelter so it's a bit of a fun side project bc the shelter here is kinda shitty and weren't interested in taking them. So I'm slowely getting them used to everything, the newest thing is sitting inside with the door closed, they used to freak out when I tried doing that.

Michelle basically only needs to learn the litterbox so maybe Danny might take her when he gets a better set-up, we have a few loose options. Kotelet is more sifficult bc she's more feral and she refuses any cat food op untill this point. She literally gags when she smells it... which, same tbh. But she does make progress in other fields so I'll see how far I can get. She didn't start interacting with me until much more recent.

So yeah they're basically part time here, on the balcony or they wait by the door to be let in and hang out for a few hours. My entire childhood we always had about 3-4 cats that were ex strays so I'm kinda used to this happening. Cats will find you.

Anyways Michelle is white now and has a nice coat and kotelet is still fucking tiny bc you can't change that.

[Helen/Paris] and [Odysseus/Calypso(and/or)Circe] similarities

I shouldn't have actually written this down? Probably. Am I still gonna do it anyways? Yeah. 8 years in the Trojan Cycle thingy and people are still discussing the interactions between this characters, damn, I thought it was clear enough.

Anyways. Onto the similarities and why I keep thinking until this day that both Helen and Odysseus were held captives. It's a short essay, since i'm just dumping my thoughts and other people's thoughts after seeing the ammount of bullshit that goes around here.

So can we, you know, start from the part that it's Aphrodite the one who does literally everything? DO NOT demonize Aphrodite, this IS NOT what i'm telling you to do.

She had to do her part of the deal, that's why she gave Helen to Paris as a prize for choosing her. She's a goddess, we know how this works.

The thing is... Okay, Aphrodite forced everything since she promised it to Paris, but was Helen okay with this?

I mean sure, we can EVEN still think that somehow she was seduced or whatever, but then in the Iliad, when Aphrodite tells her to go and comfort Paris, she refuses and fights with her. Helen literally fought with a goddess, explaining that she did not want to go with Paris.

But Aphrodite is a goddess, you cannot question the will of the gods, they're GODS for a reason. So she goes in the end, with fear.

(We even have... Whatever the hell Euripides' tragedies where. Since according to him, Helen was never in Troy, instead it was an ilussion made by Aphrodite, the real Helen was in Egypt. psjdksjfkd what. I kind of like it tbh, it's fun. But since Helen says in the Iliad that she's been 20 years in Troy already, that version just doesn't feel right. ANYWAYS-)

I'll go with Calypso first since people defend her less than Circe (kind of) SO, you know the deal with translators acting as anything except translations? I believe that might have been the problem, at least in English, I don't recall an Spanish translation saying that he stayed with her for 7 years because he wanted too, lmao.

I myself haven't reach that far in my degree to translate the Odyssey nor the Iliad, but I still have copies of them in the original Greek. So you see, there's some small things that I have enough level to understand and translate by myself and realize how blind we all are.

You know the whole deal with people not giving words from other languages the proper definition? In this passage of the Odyssey, the word used when saying that Odysseus "slept" with Calypso was anágke (ἀνάγκῃ). Which means, HEAR ME OUT, force, it means FORCE. And this next thing is more me being risky because as I said, I'm not that far in terms of translation levels, but in the text, it's in dative, the dative is used, in a simple definition, for denote the person or object affected.

He stayed with Calypso BY FORCE !! Shock. Wow. And I mean, he literally cries everyday because his only way to cope with the fact that he's trapped is by thinking about Penelope and Ithaka while crying looking at the sea. How can you see him staying willingly being like that? And the "he just left because he got tired of her" ... So you're saying that (trying to have the most mysognistic way of thinking ever) he got tired of an inmortal gorgeous nymph who would not age? You're telling me he preferred to leave, even if it was risky, than staying in an island that was considered a paradise? Yeah, no, sorry, not buying it. Odysseus just... Never says that he wants to? That he's fine with it? He literally just saw a sorceress trap his men and planning on killing them, so what was he gonna do against that? Hermes to the rescue... More or less ! He pretty much just told him to obey what he was told to, and that if he wanted to save his men from Circe, he had to do what she asked him too, after making her swear she wasn't gonna hurt them. So what gives, you're told BY THE GODS that you have to stay there for a little while if you want to keep your men safe and convince Circe of showing you your way out of the island.

Remember? Helen did what Aphrodite told her to because you can't question the will of the gods, same goes with Odysseus and Hermes. You do what they tell you to do because they're gods... And, I mean, Circe is Helios' daughter. Do you really think you could hurt the daughter of the Sun and move away with it? No. Just look at what happened with the cows !

And now, a nice similarity to end this.

In the Odyssey, it is clearly stated that Menelaus and Helen are FINE. They still love and care for eachother, they're still husband and wife. If you truly believe Menelaus didn't believe Helen... Then read the Odyssey?

20 years appart they were, following what Helen said in the Iliad, just how Penelope and Odysseus were 20 years appart and they still loved eachother and recognized their tricks despite the time.

Both Helen and Odysseus were trapped by people who had power over them, they couldn't do anything to be freed from them unless the will of the gods stated otherwise.

So, if after this you keep believing that Helen didn't love Menelaus anymore and that she's the culprit of the Trojan War; and that Odysseus didn't care for Penelope at all and he stayed with Circe and Calypso because he wanted too... Maybe you should start wearing glasses, since apparently you can't read well?

Oh GIRRRLLLL

I honestly expected angst but got such soft interactions from this chapter! I mean, yes, Vegas was very filthy in his thoughts but also very sweet? I love him even if he doesn't love himself. Vegas feelings about himself are something we all assumed so no surprises here. It still hurts how badly abused he was and how it all turned him how he is now. Our childhood creates what we are in the future. It's another reason why I'm glad his father is finally dead.

I knew Vegas was in love with Pete. But OMG. His thoughts are so sweet and wholesome. He is so smitten 😂 If he could tell Pete he loves him, he would every hour. The complements!!

It's also nice to really see how he regrets all the hurt he has done to Pete. His confusion in the shower was really worrying. He is scarred as well by this time in the safehouse and will never forget. But I admire his determination to not hurt Pete ever again. Just this shows how much he means to him. I hope Pete's grandmother sees it too 😭

I hoped so bad that the talk would happen in this chapter. But ah, it's okay. I can wait 😩 But I know the conversation is not going to be pleasant. If Pete feels safe enough to sleep side by Vegas it should convince her it's okay?? Right?? 😭

After these few chapters with constant action, danger and sex, it really feels so calm. I loved their conversation about the future. They really needed that. And omg, finally they realized they can just lay together, talk and feel satisfied with it too. Vegas needs to learn he doesn't need to perform all the time to keep Pete's time and attention. And I loved Pete's reassurance that we won't leave. He doesn't want to leave. And that Vegas is more than that.

This chapter left me with this warm feeling. Not counting the dread of the upcoming confrontation 😅

Despite!! Despite!!!That promise to himself not to physically hurt Pete again is just another way that Vegas is trying to prove to himself that he might be able to be good. That he can control his worst impulses. That maybe despite everything his father has told him he could somehow get this one thing right for pete. That’s why he freaked out so much about Pete’s wrist. That was his last hope going up in flames before his very eyes!!!

Oh lol the showdown with Pete and his grandmother feat drugged up Vegas is going to be VERY interesting hahah but they are going to find some kind of common ground don’t worry!

Yea was very important that they get the chance to just slow down for a second and be together (even if they had to be physically unable to move around in order to make that happen lol) but yes they are both steadily learning that they’re good for each other in these moments. That they both know how to take care of the other person (and that they understand each other enough that they can recognise when the other is holding on by a thread and needs that support) Whatever this fucked up thing between them is it seems to be working!! Not withstanding having to talk to Pete’s grandma about it hahahah

jt (finally) watches warrior nun - s1 e3 (pt 1)

Y'all didn't even warn me that this was gonna be that episode?! I near fell out of my chair when I realized this episode had not only the cafeteria/meal scene but also the hug and the hallway scene. Again, strange to know the scenes from fanvids and clips and only now see them in context lol

Anyway it should come to no surprise that I have SO MANY THOUGHTS. So many that I'm going to have to split this episode into either 2 or 3 posts just to talk about Avatrice because the cafeteria scene alone has me feral. Why? Because I'm convinced that it's this scene that builds the foundation for Avatrice.

Everyone points to s1 ep8 as being formative - and rightly so, what with all the face touching lol - but that wasn't the cause, it was an effect, a "symptom" of something that had been building before that. I think s1 ep8 is when they start being aware of their connection, their attraction - I think the cafeteria scene is when that connection begins.

By itself, the cafeteria scene isn't much - tbh, the only thing I'd taken from it before sitting down to watch the series properly was the "not everything is about you" line because of the callback in s2 finale. But taken in context, it's quite a vulnerable scene.

Side note: Many years ago, when I was seriously preparing to go into acting, I was recommended the book "Audition" by Michael Shurtleff. One of the things that stuck with me - in both writing fiction and life in general - is this idea that you have to constantly answer this question: "Why is your character here?" Like, even if the script has them being mean to the other character on stage with them or even outright saying that they want to leave, there's got to be a reason that they're still there - why else would they even be there in the first place? (and it's the actor's job to develop what that reason is, even if it’s never said outright)

So if we look at the cafeteria scene, it very well could not have happened. Ava could have noped out of that room the moment she'd laid eyes on Lilith or when the sisters started leaving. Beatrice herself could have also left. At any point in the conversation, one or both of them could have ended it.

But they didn't. They wanted to believe in people's kindness, wanted a bit of kindness, period. What's beautiful is the arc of the interaction: It starts out rough but slowly they both bend, just a little, give just a little bit of themselves - it's a seed planted, this scene, and I love so much of it.

Okay let's take it from the top. The thing is, most clips (e.g. this one) I've found start with Ava already sitting down next to Beatrice with that infamous voiceover - but I want to actually start before that. Remember: The scene directly before this was Mother Superion and Lilith's first "test" (let's be real, that wasn't a test, it was bullying), and while Ava laughs it off, we know that that's her way of coping - which she says outright during this scene. Coming into the cafeteria at all is incredibly brave after having been faced with such meanness, and then have to face even more meanness in the form of "middle school" style shunning. But she still keeps going, she still chooses to try again, with Beatrice.

Speaking of Beatrice: Her first choice is to stay. Look here - she takes note of Ava setting down her tray and the others whispering and leaving. Sure, she puts her head down and it kinda looks like she's just trying to ignore Ava but still - she doesn't leave.

When Ava makes that middle school comment, Beatrice starts out cold, a bit scolding when she advises Ava to "not treat everything like a joke" and how the halo wasn't just hanging around. But the delivery here is brilliant - KTY could've gone harsher here, tapped into the anger that seems to always be just under the surface with Bea (more on that when I write up my thoughts on s1 ep4), but there's a softness, a grief that she allows to come through. And see, it's that moment of vulnerability, that bending, that hope for kindness that allows Ava also to bend and actually apologize.

And then we have Ava trying again to connect - either because of guilt or because she's desperate for a friend or just to understand in general - and she gives Beatrice the space to share.

Beatrice could have refused. She could have rebuffed her, could have walked away. KTY's choices here are fantastic, how she pauses, how she takes this little breath (00:50 here). The question has unsettled Bea, taken her surprise maybe, but she pushes through, answers Ava honestly. She starts off so matter-of-fact, then slowly starts to thaw. There's beautiful support musically by the bgm piano: a repeated note, akin to the monotone of Beatrice's voice. Then Bea's face changes - and there's a quiet arpeggio that's timed perfectly with it (1:00 here). It's a beautiful touch.

I couldn't help but get this sense of this being cathartic for Beatrice, as if she'd been waiting for a chance to share this, I mean, look at how her face brightens in memory.

What's interesting with Ava is that we don't get a voice over for the rest of this scene - the only sense we get of her discomfort is when she says, "I'm not her, you know." It's the closest we get to her admitting that she's scared shitless - and visually, it's symbolized with her pushing back the hood and allows herself to be seen, to be vulnerable.

And what does Bea do? She immediately comforts, reassures, with such wide eyes and steadiness: "No one expects you to be."

It's a very brief moment, but so, so important: whereas everyone else has been pressuring Ava, trying to get her to do something they want, here is someone who is telling her it's okay to just be who she is.

And yknow, now that I think about it, a lot of this is probably Bea seeing some of herself in Ava. She directly says it with that "It was wasn't me either" line, but I wonder if it's also in the "no one expects you to be" line too - how her parents had expected her to be a certain way, to "fall in line" etc. And probably why she has that small smile when Ava says "It just isn't me"

I don't know if this was a conscious choice by KTY but there's also a moment in the hallway scene where she does a similar small smile - idk I feel like it tends to be moments when she's reassuring Ava. In any case, it's a nice touch.

And then Bea's famous lines, "We all have a past, Ava..." What's interesting here is that in the beginning of the interaction, Bea was hardly meeting Ava's eyes. When she starts talking about Shannon, there are some brief moments when she meets Ava's gaze, but she mostly shies away from Ava's stare. Once she moves into a more reassuring mode, she starts to hold Ava's gaze longer, trying to convince, trying to give comfort.

Can we just talk about how Bea delivers that last line? Taken at face value, "Not everything is about you" can come off really harsh. But Beatrice says it so gently, as if it's not meant as an admonition - part apology maybe (that everyone has their own pain to deal with), part plea (echoing maybe Vincent's direct ask for patience later on), and part encouragement (something like "you'll get through this").

And we end with Ava thoughtful but we're not privy to her thoughts, we're without voice over and just Alba's incredible ability to express so many emotions with just her face.

idk the majority of this is probably just nonsense but whatever, I'm having fun with this lol - I'll write up thoughts about the hug and the hallway scene probably next week, unless I get a lull during my travels this weekend.
