Tami Taylor's first day as the new Vice Principal at East Highland was not turning out as she'd expected. Tami stepped right into the fallout of a very controversial play by student Lexi Howard, one that laid bare the troubling social dynamics of the Southern California high school and caused a violent altercation that the whole town is buzzing about. On top of that, another student named Fezco O'Neill had gone missing, and Tami and her husband Eric seemed to be the only adults who cared about finding him. What they imagined as an easy last chapter before retirement would be much more challenging for the Taylors as they get to know Lexi, Fezco, Rue, Jules, Maddy, Cassie, Kat, Ethan, and Nate. But, as always, Tami knows best, and she might be just the person to turn things around at Euphoria High.

it’s driving me crazy that i feel like i can’t find ANY gifs of one of my top 10 fave fnl scenes, when matt comes to dinner after he & julie get back together and he challenges coach to let him play wide receiver after he gets benched as qb1. like, am i the only person who adores this, bc truly this scene has everything:

-coach & tami passive aggressively sniping over dinner

-julie, at her least annoying, championing matt

-julie shutting matt down w/one word - in v tami fashion - and coach’s eyes snapping over, clocking it all

-coach & matt playing football together (😭😭😭) and julie & tami cheering matt on

FNL question: how do you think Eric and Tami got together, like what would be their story? We get mentions that they married young and then Mo Mcarnold says Eric “stole” Tami from him so I feel like their beginning as a couple might’ve been very interesting

Ooh, fun question! Well, Tami says that she was a bit of a wild child when she met Eric, I think she said she was even going to drop out of high school but then she met him and he changed her mind

and when they have that dinner with Mo, he talks about how Eric told her about his cheating but Tami said she already knew

and then when Julie is thinking about having sex with Matt, and she and Eric get into an argument about how to handle it, she talks a little about how her mother raised her and how rebellious she was against that

so funnily enough, while Julie and Matt are positioned as becoming Eric and Tami when they're older and I definitely think there are aspects of that there, I kind of feel like Eric and Tami were a successful Landry and Tyra (but without a weird murder plot) even though Eric was indeed a football player rather than an outcast? But this is a conversation I could see them having:

all the way down to helping her with school

but even without the weird murder plot, I could see them having the same type of sentiments, I could even seeing them having the same type of angst

and the same type of arguments pre-dating

I think that's why Tami felt an affinity to Tyra

and why she tells Landry that women are going to love him when he's finished high school

I don’t know, I just get that sense between them

I tried to convince my dad that Ted from Ted Lasso and Taylor from Friday Night Lights are very similar characters, and I don’t think I’ve ever disappointed him more in all of my seventeen years on this planet. But I’m RIGHT.

Football man is newly put in charge of a team in a town that very much cares about this team and its success. There is a player who seems central to the team who is soon injured. There is also a very good player with an ego problem. They have a loyal assistant coach who doesn’t talk much. As they struggle with their coaching, they also face problems with their family. They do not communicate their emotions very well (fight me on this—Taylor doesn’t discuss his emotions, Ted suppresses negative emotions until he panics). They have some sort of catchphrase used to motivate their players that doubles as an inspirational tagline for life in general. At their core, they are both coaches who above all want to see their players become good human beings, and end up bringing hope and unity to their communities. One is angry and one is Midwestern.
