ideally, for me, mahiru gets taught by mikuni that he doesn't need to forgive the father who abandoned him but canonically mahiru already taught himself that
he still hates "the father who abandoned him" but unlike what touma expected, that hate doesn't consume him
but if there's a scenario where it's possible for mahiru to hate touma so much that he can't stand it, it would be if tooru think because mahiru has been doing so well without him for so long, tooru can spend more effort in helping touma, because i think the way tooru views touma is similar to how tsurugi sees him
things like he needs me or he has no one beside me (and iori and tsurugi) that mahiru has many willing to help but touma—
tooru being blind to his nephew's needs because mahiru is so good at presenting himself as a good, independent, reliable boy
If google translate isn't completely off then touma claims to attend the servamp academy graduation ceremony for tsurugi, but since its also mahiru's graduation I guess we can also count it as the first important event of mahiru's life that his father was there for.
Mahiru: Do you remember when I gave you advice for your siblings?
Kuro: Yeah, you said we should talk things out.
Mahiru: Now that I know that Touma is my father, I think true family ignore things until they go away.
Kuro: I never expected that I'll be the mature one in this relationship.
OMG NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, Tooru has never, I mean NEVER get mad at Touma!!???
Getting Akira a.k.a his own sister pregnant is one thing, but him being "Touma where are you? Are you okay?" On the phone while he knows Mahiru's hand being snapped by his own father and the fact that Touma really want to kill Mahiru that day..... just, idk, should you get mad??!!
Aren't you his uncle??!!
I need a solid reason why Tooru just being calm after all of this. Any reason should NEVER justified what Touma has done to Mahiru to be honest...
It's all cute and such when you suddenly notice that Touma is holding the floatie ropes(?) of his two sons. It looks like he's holding them on a leash LOL 🤣. Anyway, he knew that holding them at bay is also means that he's able to keep his peace of mind.
Can't blame him tho when the oldest is a trouble maker and the youngest is a trouble magnet...
Touma, when both he and Tsurugi were younger and before Tsurugi constantly fucked off to resturaunts with his coworkers, probably cooked a lot of Tsurugi's meals if they weren't getting takeout. Knowing Touma he probably used the food as leverage when Rugi wasn't yet making money or was money-obsessed.
Can you imagine how pissed he would be when Mahiru bullhorns his way into Tsurugi's (and his) life and starts doing what he does best, showing affection through cooking?
Not that Touma's gonna say no to being able to mooch off of the kid by eating his food for free, he's not upset by that at all. It's just...
"Woah!! Mahiru-kun, this is suuuper good! Better than Touma's!!"
He wants to wipe that dumb smile off of his hellspawn's face so goddamn bad.
He also can't use any food as leverage anymore because no matter how many times he deletes that brat's number off of Tsurugi's phone, he finds his way to that dog anyways, bento or plastic container in-hand chalked full of what he knows he likes.
Tsurugi is getting healthier and happier, eating the love mixed into Mahiru's cooking like it was ambrosia, and Touma's grip on him is slipping into something unlike what it was before. The leash is still there, in his hand, but its longer now– takes much more effort to pull him back.
And his son stands by Tsurugi, scissors in hand. Looking dead into his eyes.
I still feel so bad for mahiru because, yes, touma didn't know about mahiru being his son for years and he probably didn't know about akira's death either until tooru confronted him with the diary, which was the probably the true reason touma never contacted them and didn't show up at the funeral (touma trying to act like these things were deliberate choices by mahiru's father when they were not, but shying away from actually revealing that he was talking about himself has so many implications, but that's another topic).
But when mahiru confronts him during the C3 arc these excuses don't work anymore. Touma knows mahiru is his son. And yet he tries to kill him without a second thought anyway. He failed because tsurugi intervened but he did break mahiru's arm. His murderous intent was so strong that thanks to the jinn mahiru could see it:
Based on the fact that he cast the giant barrier over tokyo and let kuro through when he wanted to get to the nameless shrine we can assume he had a change of heart and doesn't want to kill mahiru anymore, but I imagine the reveal will probably still be hard for mahiru.
The next chapter is titled "The Requirements of a Hero 2" which is a reference to Tsubaki's attack on C3 hospital. He stabbed Kuro and Uncle Toru, leaving Mahiru to fight him. Their fight was interrupted by Iori sending them to London but now we can see the conclusion. I can see Tsubaki taunting Kuro and Mahiru like he did before. Since Tsubaki has hurt two people close to Mahiru, I can see him being angry but his protective nature keeps him focused on saving Kuro.
This fight could be where we see Mahiru's secret power if Tsubaki corners them. I've always imagined his power to be a mixture of Jinn and phoenix fire (it'll contrast the blue/black power that Kuro has).
Or, Touma can arrive to instruct Mahiru of how to use his power. He is the most likely to know his secret after Akira and Toru. I'm mixed. I want to see Mahiru shine in a fight alongside Kuro. Touma is more likely to save Tsurugi too. However, Touma being there would give us a chance to learn about Akira. Mahiru's mother plays such a large role without being there but we don't get to know much about her.
I've always wanted to see more of the Shirota family. Touma is an interesting character that brings out a side of Mahiru that we rarely see. Tanaka said in an interview that Mahiru doesn't hold onto grudges but Touma makes him angry. Then you have Tsurugi and Toru in the middle trying to keep the peace. Kuro would watch their family dynamic and give him the advice that Mahiru gave him for the Servamps.
