the #radio silence tagging problem in the hazbin fandom
Tumblr media
said I would make a more eye-catching psa about this, here it is
Tumblr media
**although #radiosilence WITHOUT the space is better than #radio silence with the space, I would still like to discourage it, will elaborate later
Tumblr media
and 90% of the time, they will listen and change accordingly.
and oh yeah. about that book.
Why shouldn't #radio silence be used?
Radio Silence is the name of a book set in the heartstopper universe by alice oseman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(which also features a canon aspec character, pictured on the right: aled last!)
and as such: #radio silence is their MAIN FANDOM tag. it is inconsiderate to flood their tag with content from another fandom, especially one as popular as hazbin hotel. but unfortunately, this is something that is already happening because of radiosilence as a ship tag.
and if you're not convinced this is something that bothers radio silence fans, here's some input from the fans themselves:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wait, so is #radiosilence without the space still fine to use?
it's better than the mistagging of #radio silence with the space. but ONLY on tumblr, because on tumblr, we're allowed the privilege of adding spaces to tags.
I still would like to discourage it though, because for as long as this tag is popularly in use, there will constantly be people mistagging it with a space. I've done what I could to nudge people to fix their tagging but I can't constantly keep this up.
plus, on other sites such as tiktok and twitter, #radiosilence IS literally the main tag for the book because you literally can't add spaces for tags on those sites. so the radio silence book fandom is likely even more drowned out on those sites than here on tumblr because of the popularisation of #radiosilence as a tag for one-sided radiostatic.
I will not be forcing anyone to ditch #radiosilence without the space as a tag though, especially when it's already so popularly used and essentially impossible to get everyone to change it, but I encourage you to go for other options if you are willing to such as:
#onewaybroadcast
decided via a poll last month that was ongoing before #radiosilence was initially popularised, held by ChaoticAce2005 and me.
it's the tag that I always use for one-sided radiostatic and is decently used by others as well! and you won't run into any issue with clashing with the radio silence/osemanverse fandom at all this way. but again, I will not force you, all I ask is that AT THE VERY LEAST, don't tag #radio silence with the space and to nudge others to change it if they do.
please help to silence the radio silence tag!
(the tagging issue on tiktok and twitter are outside of my jurisdiction as I don't engage with hazbin on twitter and I don't even use tiktok, but if possible, it would be appreciated if anyone is able to spread the alternate tag #onewaybroadcast on those sites too to discourage flooding the radio silence book fandom! I believe the original person to coin #radiosilence has been doing work to discourage it on tiktok too, any help is appreciated!)

Bookish Asks
Tumblr media
ORIGINAL BOOK TAG BY CINNASBOOKS
Tumblr media
SPINE — WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE GENRE TO READ?
Probably fantasy or contemporary romance. Fantasy can be difficult for me to get into, but I enjoy it once the story gets moving. As for contemporary romance, there's nothing like some good fluff to put a smile on my face.
COMMA — WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER…. EVER!?
This one is so hard! The first literary character who came to mind was Diana Barry. She's such a good friend and could achieve so much if her family simply gave her the chance.
PAGE — HOW DO YOU GET OUT OF A BOOK SLUMP?
Honestly, if I'm in a slump, I don't force myself to read. I don't want to ruin the enjoyment of it by making it a chore. I always find my way back eventually.
LIBRARY — WHAT IS ONE BOOK THAT CHANGED YOUR VIEWS ON A TOPIC?
I wouldn't say this book changed my views about the topic since I already agree with and support her viewpoints, but Greta Thunberg's speech collection, No One Is Too Small Too Make a Difference, taught me a lot about climate change and the crisis our planet is currently undergoing. She provides tons of information about it that I didn't know about before reading her book. Her speeches really helped me understand the issue and the scientific evidence behind it on a much deeper level. She makes it easy to understand and doesn't come off as condescending. She genuinely cares about the earth and its continuation.
WORDS — WHAT BOOK MADE YOU LOVE READING?
I didn't have the same childhood experience that many avid readers had. Others talk about how amazing reading was for them as a child, but, for me, it was a chore. I was constantly being forced to read books in school that I didn't find interesting whatsoever. Because of that, I didn't experience the childhood wonder of discovering books like the Percy Jackson series or the Chronicles of Narnia for the first time. I didn't start reading for personal enjoyment until my last year of high school. After I was free from narratives I didn't care about, I felt so much happiness once I found books that I actually enjoyed. So, overall, there isn't necessarily any one book that made me love reading. Instead, it was finally being given the chance to read what I wanted that changed my perception of it.
TYPEWRITER — HAVE YOU EVER CRIED OVER A BOOK?
Bridge to Terabithia is in the lead on this one, however, it did not actually achieve the task. No book that I have read has been successful in making me cry. (If you have a challenge for me, send it my way, lol!)
LETTER — WHO IS YOUR CHARACTER CRUSH?
I'm changing this question just a little bit since I don't really have an answer for it. In regards of which character I relate to and see myself in the most, it would have to be Nick Nelson from Heartstopper without a doubt. So many things he experienced in discovering his sexuality is what I went through as well. So much so that, in certain points of the story, it's almost a step-by-step recreation of my life. It's rather odd, but cathartic at the same time.
SPELLING — IF YOU COULD BE PUT INTO ANY UNIVERSE, WHICH WOULD IT BE?
I'm going with the Osemanverse! (Can you tell Alice Oseman is my fave yet?) Alice has put so much effort into her extended universe that exists within her novels. The Osemanverse provides such a warm feeling of comfort for me. I truly can't imagine a world without her works.
BOOKSTORE — IF YOU HAD A CHARACTER WRITTEN BASED ON YOU, WHAT WOULD THEIR PERSONALITY AND NAME BE?
Hopefully, I would just be me. I'm enough the way I am and I wouldn't change a single thing about myself.
GRAMMAR — WHAT IS THE SHORTEST PERIOD OF TIME IT HAS TAKEN YOU TO READ A NOVEL?
Probably a day, but only because I devoured Girl Made of Stars by Ashley Herring Blake in one long, extended sitting.
SCROLL — WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE WEATHER TO READ IN?
Thunderstorms are where it's at for me!
PRINTER — WHY DO YOU READ?
Because it's fun! I like reading about other people's viewpoints and opinions, as well as discovering new fictional worlds that authors have put their hearts and souls into. Reading really is a beautiful thing.
PAPERBACK — STRANGEST PLACE YOU HAVE READ A BOOK?
I guess my answer would have to be the bathtub? I like to dim the lights and use bath bombs in the water as I take some time to relax. I don't know if I would call this strange though because I know quite a few people who do this as well.
HARDCOVER — LEAST FAVOURITE BOOK AND WHY?
Stephen King's It, primarily because of that extremely gross scene towards the end. (I won't say what it is, but I'm sure other reviewers know what I'm talking about.) Please research that book before you read it. I know it's horror and all, but that scene went way too far in my opinion. That was my first Stephen King book and I will never read another.
BESTSELLER — WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE AUTHOR?
Definitely Alice Oseman! Their books make me feel so warm and happy. I know I can always turn to their work if I ever need a pick-me-up!
BINDING — IF YOU COULD GIVE ANY BOOK TO A LOVED ONE, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
My sister is a lot like me in the sense that she didn't enjoy reading when she was younger. However, she still holds that view to a certain degree. If I recommend a book for her, she knows that I chose it because I'm sure she will like it. That's why I gave her a Chronicles of Narnia boxset. And she loves them!
CHAPTER — DO YOU THINK READING IS FOR EVERYONE?
That's a hard question. I think people consume stories differently and in their own ways. Maybe someone likes physical books while another person likes the audio versions? Someone else could prefer to simply watch the movie or TV adaptation of story? All of those options are fine. I think we need to let go of the idea that if someone doesn't read then they aren't as intelligent as people who do. Because that's simply not true. We should all be allowed to consume stories in whatever format suits us the best without the fear of judgment from others.
BLURB — HOW MANY BOOKS ARE YOU READING RIGHT NOW?
Don't look at me.
CLIFFHANGER — WHAT BOOK(S) ARE YOU READING CURRENTLY?
I won't include books that I haven't picked up in a while because we'd be here forever if I did. The two books I'm most actively reading are Beartown as well as The Duke and I. Beartown is apart of my current Shelf Unhaul challenge, which was inspired by BooksAndLala's Closet Unhaul series. If you remember the earlier question about odd reading locations, I said that I like to unwind and read in the bathtub. That's where I take some time to catch up on The Duke and I. Nothing like a good romance while being surrounded by candles, lol!
COVER — RECOMMEND A BOOK FOR ME?
Heartstopper by Alice Oseman, especially if you like sweet, fluffy stories about friendship and romance.
PROLOGUE — DESCRIBE THE BOOK YOU ARE CURRENTLY READING USING ONLY EMOJIS?
I want to clarify that I've only read the first chapter of Beartown, so I'm only doing The Duke and I for this one, lol! 🤭👸🏻💅🏻✨👑💍💗
EPILOGUE — IF YOU COULD RENAME ANY BOOK, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I genuinely can't think of a book for this one. I don't necessarily have issues with book titles because I know it's not (usually) up to the author what they're book is titled or how the cover is designed.
TITLE — WHAT CHARACTER WOULD BE YOUR BFF?
I'd say Tori Spring, but I'm sure you're all tired of me mentioning the Osemanverse over and over all, so I'll throw in a second character, lol! Annabeth Chase, forever and always! She's such a great character!

i'm so sorry to ask this but i still didn't get what mucus stands for. explain. please. i see it everywhere in this fucking fandom and still didn't figure it out. just. pls explain.
ps: lrowanster can FUCK OFF we have mister hjsdvjdshkhd
oh you asked the exact right person bestie ps: agreed
short answer: mucus is the phenomenal ship of michael & lucas from solitaire
long answer: back in the day (i think late 2017 or early 2018) there was a beautiful beautiful discord server called sneartstopper which i started. right now it’s sort of chill (i’m not in it anymore, as jam likes to say i abandoned my creation like frankenstein) but back then. well.
basically all it was was a bunch of people all banded together to create the most cursed atmosphere possible. why... don’t ask us. a plethora of questionable memes were born as a result, and the most important one of them, was mucus.
quoting the meme doc (because we did what any sensible group of friends would do and created a manifesto of all of our inside jokes):
Mucus - (this was all written by snellen i hope she dies -vic 1.0) Michael x Lucas (Backstory: We were talking about what would happen if Alice became super popular and how there would be loads of ships. Someone said people would probably ship Tori and Becky (valid) and I said if people wrote fics about them there would probably be a side Michael x Lucas (not valid)
(note: this isn’t the full bit, after this ellen launches into a long list of incoherent mucus “evidence” which is hilarious but not relevant)
mucus then went on to become a bit of a running gang inside the discord, and because the osemanverse fandom was small enough back then (or we were annoying enough you choose) it also spread outside the discord and... the rest is history<3
so basically? any and all complaints/compliments about mucus to @ifididntlaughidcry since she started all of this. who’s changing the course of history like ellen literally NO ONE!!!!!!
(also, most of us actually ended up bonding so much over the sheer amount of dumb jokes we made that we’re still friends- if you ever see me refer to the “incompetent squad” in the tags of a post i mean the friend group that started in sneartstopper & part of the full group that terrorized the world with ideas of mucus and flashmob scenes<3)

The Witch King by H.E. Edgmon
Tumblr media
Read time: 3 Days Rating: n/a
This is a book I abandoned. I stopped reading at about 53%
Warnings: drug use, family violence and racism
When you find yourself actively disliking 2 of the 3 main characters it's time to stop reading. I know in my last update I wasn't looking at DNFing but things change. So let me say that I am fully aware that I am not the demographic this is aimed at (young adults) but I read a lot of ya, it's something I enjoy. The main reason I picked this up is my need to support authors that write ace, aro, aroace or other aspec main characters. Edgmon does that and I only found The Witch King by playing in the asexual tag on Goodreads.
When I say Edgemon does it well I'm not kidding. At the point I'm stopping reading their cast includes Wyatt Croft a trans gay ace (though the ace I'm a bit confused on), his best friend Briar who is bi, Jin Ueno "Nonbinary lady. They pronouns, very lesbian.", their girlfriend Clarke and Emyr an almost ideal ally. There's a brilliant poly thruple in play (if I read that right), I'm totally soft for Roman. But all of them are in shades of grey and not their whole identities. Honestly, Edgemons characterisation feels a bit like that in the Osemanverse.
Okay, so why am I stopping? I cannot deal with Wyatt anymore or Emyr. And I'm not invested enough in Briar and her perspective future to keep going. I am wondering where her arc is going, there is potential there but lore means it's unlikely. Wyatt is just frustrating he's all over the place. One step off lusting after the book's villain, flipping like a switch over his feelings for Emyr. I know he's a teenage boy and this is about growth but it's inconsistent and frustrating. Emyr I've never really liked. I think I understand why he's doing what he's doing but he's still refusing to let Wyatt go back to the family he's made, the life he's made, and has a weapon to hold over Wyatt's head (even if he's never mentioned it). The only thing I like about Emyr is his ability to act as an ally both in word and action.
Another reason I'm stopping is the plot. It just feels so slow. I know in the chapter after I'm stopping the pace starts to pick up but to me, it's too little too late. Just some warnings to take note of when looking at reading this there are references to drug use, family violence and racism. I do like the writing and the chapter titles. Each of the chapter titles are quotes, the most important or amusing lines in the chapter. Some examples • Because I don't want to be beautiful. Because I don't want any sliver of my value to be defined by you or anyone else finding me nice to look at, Because I'm a monster and monsters aren't supposed to be beautiful. — Chapter 3. • "I'm a clueless seventeen-year-old who didn't ask for any of this." Roman snorts out, "Weird flex, but okay." — Chapter 10. I included purely because while I only met Roman once he's a realist in a group of idealists. • "Some things never change." Some connections are too important to be broken, no matter the time or distance between people. — Chapter 11. More than a chapter title it's a key quote. • That's enough cis men for today. I would like to cancel all cis men and go take a nap. — Chapter 13. And the context is fantastic. Wyatt's brain is short-circuiting and I'm not sure I blame him.
I don't regret reading this and I may at some point come back to it. But right now I have two space operas judging me because I'm not reading them and this has a hold list a mile long at the local library. Do you know how much that excites me though? To have a book with such good LGBTQ+ rep be so in demand is a very very good thing. Wow this is really long for a DNF write up.
