Really liking my new tablet so far so lemme give a review. In summary, up front: If you draw on your phone with your fingers, this is a step up! If you draw on a pen tablet with a PC and want something more portable, this is good enough but not gonna be as good as your, say, Wacom or Huion.
I got the Ugee Q6 a week ago for use with my phone. (Important note: it works only on Android phones/tablets)
Tumblr media
Been using it every day since to color (cell shading), sketch, and ink.
PROS:
- it's affordable (Depending on where you are. I got it for equivalent $24 on sale)
- it's very portable. Slightly wider than an A5 notebook and about as heavy as a hard bound book of the same size. The cord stores in the back of the tablet and the pen can be placed in the faux-leather loop
- pen pressure. Of course.
- this is what made me get this over other brands/models: the switch that toggles modes. If you use it with a phone, which has a tall screen, you'll want it in full phone screen mode so the proportions of the tablet area matches the screen. Same if you use an Android tablet or a laptop. (If your tablet area and screen match proportions, you can draw a circle on the tablet and expect a circle to appear on the screen, not an oval.) You can get used to tablet area proportions being off, but it takes a while and it's a pain in the ass.
- it doesn't use up much of my phone battery. Lost maybe 30% in two hours?
CONS:
- default pen pressure sensitivity isn't great. You can adjust sensitivity on a PC, but not on a phone-- unless you use Ibis Paint X. Ibis has its own sensitivity adjustment (pressure curve). The pen pressure is okay on other apps for sketching and coloring, but maybe not painting and inking. (I ink on Ibis because of this). You'd have to find apps that allow you to adjust the pressure curve to how you want it.
- there's a slight lag. It's not noticeable most of the time, especially not when sketching. But I've noticed it when inking. Sometimes when coloring. (I've checked other reviews, and a couple of people have also noticed it: an Osu! player and someone who takes notes with it.) I don't mind it but other people might.
YMMV:
- the pen is thinner and less grippy than I'm used to. Probably just gonna slap a pen grip on it. It's about the width of a mechanical pencil.
- the textural feedback of the pen against the tablet surface is a little plastic-y, but with a little more grip to it. Kind of between plastic and smooth rubber. I'm more used to a really textured, metallic(?) feeling surface.
- the cord is really short. It's more designed for mobiles. If you want to use it for a PC you'll need an extension cord.
...
And that's it, that's the very long review. Dunno if this thing will last, but if it lasts a year I'd be happy with that. It was (relatively) cheap after all. (It doesn't feel cheap)

It’s new drawing tablet time bb!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I got a new tablet (ostensibly for drawing). I got it because, despite my adoration for my XP Pen 12 Pro, it isn’t what one would call... portable. My laptop in of itself is a backbreaker, so even if I could find all the power outlets I’d need in a public space, it’s not practical! But for ages now, despite my casual love for paper sketching, I’ve wanted a way to draw digitally on the go. So I got the cheapest tablet I could find that I wouldn’t have to corrupt into the hell dimension to get Krita working on. Enter stage right; the Surface Go 3! I’m gonna say immediately (and more than anything so you know this isn’t an ad) that the Go 3 sucks, and I do not recommend it. It overheats, it’s gotta a smaller display size than my XP Pen, it has middling battery life, and the pen and drawing support is very, very questionable. However, for me? As someone who only wants it to sketch with, to use essentially as a mobile, digital sketch book? It’s poifect! It’s small and portable but workable, and I’ve been using janky computers my entire life; at this point, I’m stubborn enough to get through most fucky moments if it means I can have drawing on the go. I’m really excited to use this more and get some fun sketching done. And cos it’s all connected by OneDrive and it’s all done in Krita native files, if I like a sketch, I can easily “finish it” at home :) Naturally to test out my new tablet I had to draw the scrunks, I’ve missed them...

the lovely folks over @ Huion kindly sent me a Kamvas 12 to try !! ♡ a quick review:
🖥  Huion Kamvas 12 is a beginner friendly screen tablet with full HD 12″ display, compatible with windows, mac, linux and android phones. it is not a standalone portable tablet, it will need to be hooked up to a computer with a HDMI port!
🖼 i’ve been using this screen tablet for a month now and i’m really happy with it! this is huion’s smallest model, making it easy to carry and ideal for my small desk. it is a compact, lightweight but high quality screen tablet.
⚙️  set up is straightforward. i had some trouble figuring out pen calibration during set up bc there was some lag/offset, but after some fiddling around it works like a charm and i don’t experience any major lag when doing a stroke - i've tested this both in SAI and CSP.
🎨  the screen resolution is impressive for its size & the colors are popping on this one. its kinda like your drawing on paper bc the screen is semi-matte. it even got customizable hotkeys which i love + u can turn off the screen and use it like a regular drawing tablet no problem
🖊  the pen is battery-free and charges automatically, so if you’re like me and get annoyed by the pen running out while you’re working, this is ideal! it comes with pen holder + extra nibs, a drawing glove, and an optional adjustable stand, making it more ergonomic
tl;dr: i’m impressed! if you think larger screen tablets are a bit intimidating, or you’re used to non-display tablets and are looking to transition to screen displays - this is a great and affordable fit! 💞
i'm so happy to see more affordable options out there so more people can jump in and start drawing digitally. i can highly recommend huion tablets!! if you are interested, you can find more info here! ✨

Tablet Review
If you’re in the market for a display drawing tablet, I recommend skipping over the XP-Pen line of tablets.
I bought my Artist Pro 13.3 a year ago. At first it was a wonderful tablet that responded well with unnoticeable parallax (the distance between your stylus and the cursor on screen). There was no issue between colors on the tablet and my computer screen. The biggest draw was that it was much cheaper than a Wacom.
However, a little after a year, the tablet started to act up. The stylus began randomly creating dots at the end and sometimes the beginning of strokes. I figured updating the drivers might help; instead it completely took away my ability to use my tablet at all. I could only draw if the program I used was minimized otherwise instead of drawing, the entire window would shift. I couldn’t draw in Photoshop at all.
Basically, my tablet has become an oversized paperweight, so if you want a good, cheap drawing tablet that’s going to last, skip over XP-Pen. it’s not worth it.
