Could Estrogen Have Saved Her (and Her Series?)

The series Sword Art Online is often seen in a negative light by a large internet community. Due to issues with the anime adaptation as well as internet personalities backing hate bandwagons, the series as well as the characters are often flanderized and seen in a way that to fans of the series would seem more like parody than reality. However, there is also a large and vocal group of fans that adore the series, and within that group, a devoted sect that discusses the possibility that Kazuto “Kirito” Kirigaya is a transgender female.

While this essay is not an attempt to claim that Kirito is infact textually transgender, various comments made on posts referencing this idea have had a similar sentiment: “If Kirito was transgender, it would have fixed the series for me”. If you look at a variety of comments and reposts on tumblr posts by niche vtuber HeyGuysItsBeth, this is a common opinion. So, would Kirito being transgender make a noticeable and positive impact on the story of Sword Art Online?

Now there are various moments in the series that support the concept of Kirito being transfem, such as their appearance and the role they play within the Phantom Bullet arc, but the pieces are laid out immediately in the first drafts of the web novel, where Kirito is described as seeing no masculinity in their own face. But let us begin with volume 2 of the manga, in which we meet the character Silica. Silica is a young girl in the world of Sword Art Online, a loner trapped with nothing but her animal companion Pina, but upon our first meeting of her, Pina tragically is struck down by enemies saving Silica, before Kirito can help her escape from the attackers. Kirito provides Silica with new armor and promises to help her revive Pina, asking nothing in return, as in their words “[Silica] reminds them of their little sister Suguha.” Already, this adds in a lot of interesting information. Firstly, despite supposedly being a male player, Kirito already has female equipment, armor, and clothing ready to give out to Silica, with the light novel referring to them as Kirito’s “leftovers” implying that Kirito has already used them, and is passing them on. Then when it comes to the likeness of Silica and Suguha, we later discover that according to Kirito, them and Suguha used to be mistaken for twin girls, despite the fact Kirito is older and not a blood sibling to Suguha. From this, we can gather that Kirito when looking at Silica and saying she reminds them of Suguha, they are saying that Silica reminds them of themself. From Kirito’s perspective, they have just seen a loner, someone by themselves in a world foreign to them, lose the thing they hold dearest, and ready to give up on themselves before someone else comes in to save them. This is what happened only a few days prior to Kirito, as they were too a loner in this world, before being taken into a guild called the Moonlit Black Cats, and they had lost each and every one of them, including the one they held dearest, Sachi. And they were inconsolable and wanted nothing more than to fall as well, until Klein came to beg them to stay alive. Kirito had lost Sachi, their Moonlit Black Cat, and Silica had lost Pina, named for her real world cat.

Silica and Kirito are clearly narrative parallels through this story, as they talk to eachother and bond during their journey to revive Pina. Kirito had lost their birth parents, and then felt alone and isolated again upon the discovery that they were adopted. Silica was an only child, whose parents were always busy with work, and they were left alone with just their cat. Both Silica and Kirito had no friends in the outside world, and in-game, people just wanted them for their looks and for their unique skills, not their genuine friendship. Kirito saw themself in Silica, and gave them their old armor, and did everything they could to help her revive her fallen friend, the thing Kirito was unable to do for Sachi. Silica ends up being Kirito’s hope during their trip, where they had previously been pessimistic on their relationship with Suguha, Silica is there to comfort them, and insist that Suguha must truly love and care for Kirito, and that they must care for her a lot too. Kirito insists that even though they helped Silica revive Pina, Silica helped them more, as they gave them hope, both in game and in the real world. To them, Silica is what they would be if the world was simply a bit kinder to them, which reveals the depressing core, that even in their greatest fantasy, Kirito cannot imagine their own life without tragedy.

When examining this story through the lens of a transgender Kirito seeing Silica as a version of themself, quite literally in their armor, the story goes from what many would write off as a fanservice harem-bait to one that reveals more of the inner struggles and pain of the characters, but also the hope that still exists, that they still have a future to look forward to where things do get better.

Kirito and Asuna, a ginger haired front-line fighter, eventually get married and settle in a cottage by a lake during their time stuck in Aincrad. It is there that they find and adopt a small girl named Yui, raising her as a daughter. Despite her being fully AI, they love her with all their hearts and truly become family with her. Within the Gameverse series of games, Kirito and Asuna elaborate on Yui further, noting that despite her not being their offspring, Yui notably takes a lot of the features of both Kirito and Asuna, but Asuna claims that she resembles Kirito more. And this is true, if you look at how Kirito looks with long hair in GunGale Online, as well as in real life, there is a strong resemblance there. Yui in the gameverse games also claims that Kirito is the one who cuts her hair and styles it every morning, which is a cute detail. However, it also comes with some questions. Kirito, according to themself, simply cuts their hair so that it is out of their face and not bothersome for fighting. This implies that Kirito doesn’t care for hair, so why would they know how to properly maintain it in others. Kirito’s adoptive parents were not home very frequently, as both worked heavily, and Kirito was often left with the responsibility of their younger sister, Suguha. We can infer that Kirito knows how to do hair because of taking care of Suguha’s. But Suguha also has her hair cut short, why? For kendo, as she practices it in real life as well. Given that both Kirito and Sugu practiced kendo, it could be inferred that Kirito and Sugu both used to have long hair, but upon starting kendo, they had it cut short. After all, they were near identical when they were younger. Within the light novel for the Phantom Bullet Arc, it is written that Kirito acts as if they have already had long hair, knowing how to take care of it, fight with it, and the proper ways to handle it when it is in your way.

In this scenario, it is shown that Kirito is a loving and caring parent, helping their daughter like they used to help their sister and themself. Without taking this angle into account, many viewers may brush off Yui’s addition in SAO as mere trauma-bait, being as soon as she is introduced, she is killed. However, with the addition of Kirito’s past with long hair, and the implication that Kirito is almost living vicariously through Yui’s appearance, it adds to the story of both of them.

Speaking of Kirito’s long hair and girly features, let’s talk crossdressing. While the appearance of Kirito in GunGale Online is often seen as a trap trope, we need to further examine what exactly happens within GunGale, as well as outside of it. In GunGale Online, Kirito is presented with a rare male avatar that is incredibly feminine in nature, to the point that everyone assumes they are female. And thus, Kirito acts accordingly, pretending to be female to everyone, including flirting with men at the bar during the preshow for the Battle of Bullets. They don’t need to do this, they just do for fun. Infact, they seem to have more fun with their feminine appearance and attire, as they are more emotive, bubbly, and even have a distinct shine in their eyes that isn’t present anywhere else. But that is solely Sword Art Online II, in Sword Art Offline II, things escalate even further. Sword Art Offline II is an official mini-series in the blu ray and dvd releases of SAO II that is written by the original author, taking the form of a news / talk show discussing the events of the show. Within it, Kirito is referred to as “a cute girl named Kiriko” frequently. Very very frequently. Sinon alleges that Kirito may be secretly crossdressing in the real world, and that if they have a sister, they very well may be stealing her clothes to dress up in, a statement that Kirito is notably flustered by. Asuna also states that it seems like Kirito is enjoying themselves more as a girl than as a guy, and that she would love to dress her up in a bunch of cute clothes and “make her a proper woman”.

By including all of this information, the appearance of GGO Kirito goes from a borderline problematic trap trope, to just an egg of a trans woman learning they are comfortable and enjoy having a female appearance, and just having a fun time with it.

Within Sword Art Online Alicization, Kirito meets a boy named Eugeo and is struck with an unnerving revelation. Outside of the realization that Kirito may also like men, Kirito also realizes that they have been playing a role for most of their life. Kirito was forced into roleplaying a character in Sword Art Online, needing to assume the “beater” persona in order to help all other beta-testers escape the wrath of other players. They were forced into a hero role by the game’s creator, being chosen to help lead the fight against him, and be the one to ultimately face him at the game’s finale. Kirito had to play the role of hero again, saving those who were trapped in Alfheim after SAO shut down. Then, they needed to play hero again, saving people from DeathGun, while also needing to pretend to be a girl to everyone around them. But then they met Eugeo, and saw an actual hero. To Kirito, Eugeo was a hero, with a set goal of making the world better, and truly had the ambition and strength to make it reality. Kirito had been forced into strength, Eugeo was made for it. But Eugeo died in Kirito’s arms, leaving them broken. Someone so much stronger, so much better than them. They couldn’t live. How could Kirito, someone who was simply playing a role, manage to live when Eugeo couldn’t? But it was Eugeo who taught them how to be a real hero, not just a roleplay. And not just a copy of Eugeo, but a hero in their own way. Kirito took up Eugeo’s sword and helped save the Underworld, and brought peace between the realms. They had learned to stop playing a role for the world around them, and to fight as themself instead, and that is what gave them their strength.

In the end, is Kirito transgender? Well based upon the fact Sword Art Offline affirms that Kirito has a chosen female name with Kiriko, enjoys dressing as a girl, and enjoys acting like a girl, yes. But does it matter? Also yes. By examining the narratives present within Sword Art Online, the added characterization and motivations do genuinely provide more impact than just adding in representation. They add more heart and reasoning behind each small story. So yes, transition could have saved her.

The beginning of the longest arc of SAO, Alicization! The Story The story is about Kirito ending up in a VR world after he is killed(?) by an old foe from Aincrad. One thing I will bring up is that this volume is very different from the previous volumes, it's has slower-paced storytelling (similar to The Isolator) and it is much more mature. There is no fanservice in this novel whatsoever. Not even Kirito walking in on somebody or any tentacle Monsters. They play this story completely straight and serious and I love this novel more because of it. Some people may not like the changes made in this volume, but I think it makes a great change, since the audience of this novel is getting older, and the series was originally released in 2001, so a more mature story is definitely welcomed. The Characters The Characters in this novel is great. Even Kirito gets great character development and even becomes a mentor to the new lead of this series. Yes, Asuna doesn't play a huge role in this novel, but we do see how much Kirito and her love each other. It is so great to see when it feels like Kirito is starting to become the harem king. Okay that joke has been done to death, but since the last few novels barely had Kirito and Asuna interacting, it feels like she should of stayed dead after the first novel. I mean, I still think it would make more sense plot-wise if she stayed dead, but seeing them being lovers makes it feel like that she still has a purpose in this series. The Illustrations The illustrations are really good, but the only issue I have with them is that there are too few of them. This book is very stingy when it comes to the quantity of the illustrations. Final Thoughts Overall, this volume brings Sword Art Online back to its roots, bringing back what we loved from the original first novel, while giving us something new. Honestly, if you were short on money, I would suggest skipping volumes 2,3,4 and 8 (don't skip Phantom Bullet and Mother's Rosary. They are also great) and go straight to this arc. This series is definitely showing promising signs to becoming a masterpiece in the making! The Story 5/5 The Characters 5/5 The Illustrations 4/5 Overall 4.5/5

Herzlich willkommen zu der ersten Folge "What's new Panda", der Podcast, wo ich euch japanische Bands vorstellen möchte. In der heutigen Folge geht es – natürlich - um zwei neue Gruppen. Dual Alter World, eine Band die ich dem Metalcore und Powermetal zuordnen würde und die gelegentlich auch etwas Symphonic einfließen lässt.

Die zweite Gruppe hört auf den einprägsamen Namen "Kaqriyoterror" und lässt sich etwas schwerer zuordnen. Aber mit Metal, Rock, EDM, oder auch Drum N Bass liege ich sicher nicht verkehrt. Ich wünsche euch viel Spaß

Dual Alter World "Alter ego"

Die erste Gruppe die ich euch heute vorstellen möchte hört auf den Namen Dual Alter World und ist ein im Januar 2019 gegründetes Duo. Es besteht aus der Sängerin Koiwai Kotori und dem Gitarristen Kuriyama Ryuichi, auch genannt RYU.

Koiwai wurde am 15.Februar 1990 in Kyoto geboren und nachdem sie Pikachu's Stimme hörte, entwickelte sie ein Interesse am Synchronsprechen. 2011 feierte sie ihr Debüt in dem Anime Blue Exorcist als Yoshikuni. Ein paar weitere Serien wären:

-The Seven Deadly Sins (Elaine)

-Nisekoi: (Suzu Ayakaji)

-Und da es so beliebt ist: In Genshin Impact spricht sie Yun Jin.

Neben ihren Rollen als Sprecherin ist sie auch Texterin z.B. Für die Sängerin Rie Tanaka, und als Komponistin aktiv. Seit Januar 2023 gehört sie offiziell zu D4DJ All Stars und ist dort DJ und Produzentin der Gruppe Unichord. D4DJ ist ein Franchise von Bushiroad, ähnlich wie Bang Dream Girls Band Party, und es gibt davon Mangas, Serien, Musik oder auch Spiele. Außerdem gab sie 2019 bekannt, in Mensa aufgenommen worden zu sein. Das ist ein Verein für intelligente Menschen und wenn ich es richtig verstehe, muss man mind. einen IQ von 130 in Tests vorweisen können. Die Frau scheint also auch sehr intelligent zu sein.

Zu RYU konnte ich leider nicht so viele Infos finden. Scheinbar ist er am 8.August in Osaka geboren und ist der ältere Bruder von Kuriyama Ryōji, auch bekannt als RYO. Während unser RYU Gitarrist und Keyboard der Band Blood Stained Child ist, die wir sicher auch noch behandeln, übernimmt sein jüngerer Bruder RYO den Bass und Gesang.

RYU war des weiteren Gitarrist bei Yuzukingdom, Save the Queen und Visionquest. Ach... Und falls Ihr euch wundert, wer auf der linken Seite des Folgencovers RYU sein soll – RYU ist natürlich der hübsche Mann mit der Gitarre, auch wenn er wie eine Frau aussieht.

Zu der Diskographie von Dual Alter World gibt es noch nicht viel zu sagen. 2019 erschien das Album "Alter Ego" und 2020 die EP "World Distonation". Und mit dem Album wollen wir uns heute befassen.

Das Album "Alter ego" erschien am 18.September 2019 und ist das Debütalbum von Dual Alter World und umfasst 19 Titel. Das klingt erst einmal viel, allerdings sind 8 dieser mit UAD benannten Titel Storys die musikalisch untermalt sind. Gesprochen werden sie von Koiwai, doch da ich leider keine Texte dazu finden konnte und mein Japanisch so gut wie nicht vorhanden ist, kann ich euch zu der Geschichte nix sagen. Nur eine Vermutung habe ich: Der Name "Kirito" wird immer wieder erwähnt und beim letzten Titel sind Schüsse zu hören, weshalb ich vermute das die Geschichte in der Welt von Sword Art Online, bzw. SAO: Phantom Bullet spielt. Mit den Texten wäre das vielleicht herauszufinden gewesen.

Einen Ausschnitt aus so einem UAD Titel möchte ich euch dennoch präsentieren.

Der zweite Titel heißt wie das Album - Alter Ego- ist ein Instrumentalstück und schließt nahtlos an UAD 1 an. Die Musik wird intensiver und ein Chor singt leicht darüber. Könnte wunderbar zu einem Fantasygame, oder einem Animekampf passen. Es klingt auf jeden Fall so, als würden wir uns einem schrecklichen Ereignis nähren.

Titel 3 ist nun unser erster Song. Console1 eröffnet mit hämmernden Schlagzeug und die Gitarren schmettern ein feines Metalcore Riff. Koiwai stimmt ein und wechselt dabei zwischen zwei Charakteren. Eine kraftvoll, rockige und eine niedlich, aber auch frech klingende.

Den Songtext zu interpretieren ist, aufgrund der bereits erwähnten, kaum vorhandenen japanisch Kenntnisse, ziemlich spaßig... In etwa so spaßig, wie als junger Bub mit dem Fahrrad unaufmerksam über eine Rampe aus Dreck zu fahren, in der Luft die Vorderbremse zu ziehen und aufgrund des plötzlichen zustande kommenden Stillstands sanft vom Sattel zu gleiten, nur um eine Sekunde später weniger sanft Bekanntschaft mit der mittleren Stange zu machen...

Der googleübersetzer liefert jedenfalls kein besonders zufriedenstellendes Ergebnis. Mhh, so ähnlich müssen sich also meine Lehrer gefühlt haben.

Was ich da heraus lesen kann ist, das viele Leute ein verlangen haben und sich mit einreihen. Das was erfolgreich ist wird nachgemacht in der Hoffnung Geld zu gelangen. Wenn du was erreichen willst musst du nach oben blicken, dich entgegenstellen und eigene Ideen haben, sonst wirst du nur verzweifeln und in der Masse untergehen.

Ooooder so ähnlich. Ihr könnt ja gerne selber mal den Versuch starten und den von google übersetzten Text interpretieren.

Zum Schluss leitet Koiwai mit einem Scream ein Gitarrensolo ein, welches in einen ruhigen, Keyboard dominierten Part übergeht, bevor wir zum Metalcore Riff zurückkommen und noch einmal den Refrain hören.

Der zweite Song, Chaos Effect, macht seinem Namen alle Ehre und begrüßt uns mit harten, schnellen Riffs sowie einem angenehmen Scream. Die gute Koiwai hat das jedenfalls echt gut drauf. Und das zeigt sie noch mal kurz, bevor der ohrwurmverdächtige Refrain einsetzt. Ich für meinen Teil, summe ihn bereits gerne mit.

Der Text ist hier angenehmer übersetzt. "Soweit, bis es seine Form nicht mehr behält, gelehrte grenzen, imitiert, dann musst du nicht mehr du sein". Für mich klingt das nach schlechten Einflüssen. Leute die einen durch negative Meinung ändern indem sie die eigenen Ziele schlecht reden bis man so wird, wie sie es für gut halten.

Weiter gehts mit "Überwinde das System. Ruf es raus, schreie es raus, aber sing dabei. Sag es mir mit einer verzerrten Antwort." Der letzte Part ist mir nicht ganz klar, aber das davor interpretiere ich als "sag deine Meinung, was DU willst, wie DU dich fühlst, aber bleibe dabei ruhig und begebe dich nicht auf eine stufe mit andere die sich nicht beherrschen können"

Das Ganze würde so auch gut zu dem Text von Console1 passen und stimmt mich etwas positiver, diesen auch einiger maßen passend verstanden zu haben.

Der nächste Titel, Dual Moog strotzt ebenfalls vor Energie. Das Schlagzeug Begrüßt uns mit der Doublebass, die Gitarren sind mit dem Rhythmus zufrieden und überlassen dem Keyboard die Melodie. Ein Solo lassen sie sich später trotzdem nicht nehmen.

Der rote Mond versteckt die unwiederbringbaren Sünden. Wenn du nur lächelst, kannst du alles haben. Ich komme nie wieder auf den Boden zurück, zwischen Himmel und Vakuum. Wir können nie zu dem "Wir Zwei" zurückkehren. Was ich möchte ist weder Vermögen noch Schönheit. Die hingehaltene, vergiftete Frucht. So in etwa ist die gekürzte Version des Songtextes. Klingt nach einer Trennung oder einem Verlust. Aber wie die Beziehung war, ob Freundschaft, Liebe, oder etwas anderes und warum es dazu kam kann ich nicht herauslesen. Vielleicht verschafft der nächste Song da mehr Klarheit.

Dort wird es nun Symphonisch. Northern Oscillator startet mit einem verheißungsvollen Chor und hat auch Streicher im Gepäck. Auch der Gesang ist hier eher Opern ähnlich und wird von einer weiteren, hohen Stimme gedoppelt. Dies ist auch einer der ruhigsten Songs des Albums.

Hier weiß ich mal wieder nicht ganz was ich aus dem Text deuten soll. Wir sind Kinder der Dämmerung. Erhalten Segen und fliegen durch den Himmel. -Später dann- Ist dies ein Desaster oder ein Bote von Gott? Sieh hoch und rede, hab keine Angst. Eine Robe aus Federn in wehenden Farben gehüllt. Ausbreitende Welle, flatternde Flügel zur Wasseroberfläche, in liebe mit jemanden.

Natürlich ist das erstens von einem Übersetzer und zweitens von mir aus dem Englischen interpretiert, aber vielleicht habt ihr ja eine Idee was sich dahinter verbergen könnte.

Hinter Dimension Expander verbirgt sich zumindest geiler Powermetal. Das Schlagzeug treibt einen von der ersten Sekunde an unaufhaltbar durch den kompletten Song. Dazu Streicher und Keyboard, melodische Gitarren Riffs und Koiwai holt einen im Refrain mit dem Gesang richtig ab. Aber das Schlagzeug, das rollt.

Textlich haben wir hier jemanden der lacht und jemanden der weint. Doch da Unterschiede gemacht werden bringt es nichts darüber nach zu denken. Die großen werden größer, selbst wenn die kleinen dadurch noch kleiner werden. Das haben wir ja alle schon gehört. Die armen haben es schwer einfach nur vernünftig zu leben. Und die reichen haben genug Mittel um dadurch immer reicher zu werden und es schmerzt sie auch nicht wenn eine Investition vielleicht mal scheitert. Schlimm ist das in erster Linie dann für die Angestellten die wieder zusehen müssen wie sie klarkommen.

Weiter heißt es Mit dieser Hand, deine restlichen Karten noch verdeckt, leiste widerstand. Ohne Schatten oder Formen zu folgen, starre auf den letzten Moment. Dies sehe ich als "Auch wenn du nicht weiß was du noch leisten kannst, versuche es immer weiter und gib nicht auf. Du weißt nicht, ob deine nächste Karte nicht der Joker ist und du Erfolg haben wirst und alles gut geht. Also lass dich auch nicht von negativen Gedanken oder Erfahrungen wie ein Schatten umhüllen sondern schau nach vorne. Soweit zumindest meine Meinung. Ob Koiwai das genau so gemeint hat könnte wohl nur sie beantworten. Ich sollte anmerken, das ich Interpretation im Deutschunterricht eh immer doof fand. Warum sollte der Lehrer genau wissen was ein Dichter ausdrücken wollte, wenn dieser es nicht selbst erklärt hat? Wenn ich z.b. Schreibe "Ich geh nicht aus dem Haus, es sieht nach regen aus" dann muss das nicht heißen "Patrick möchte zum Ausdruck bringen, das er trauriger, gar deprimierter wird und daher in seinen sicheren vier Wänden bleibt". Ich meine damit einfach nur, das es wohl gleich regnen wird. Interpretation ist nur ein überlegen "was könnte gemeint sein". Seht das hier also nicht als 100%, nicht mal als 10% richtig interpretiert an. Nach diesem Abschweifer, machen wir doch einfach weiter.

Doll$Box, oder Unlucky Morpheus... sagen euch die Bands bereits etwas? Wenn nicht, die kommen bestimmt auch noch dran. In beiden ist aber Fuki als Sängerin vertreten. Und bei dem nächsten Titel Namens Tokyo Interface hat sie den Text beigesteuert. Koiwai stellt hier auch wieder ein paar Screams zur schau, welche ich dieses mal besonders emotional empfinde. So passen sie super zum Text. "It's no wonder I hate myself. No one has to live a lie/Es ist kein Wunder das ich mich hasse. Niemand muss eine Lüge leben" bzw. Bei der Einleitung zum Refrain "Somebody save me/Irgendjemand, rette mich".

Auch der Rest des Textes reiht sich gut in das Thema des Albums ein. Ich interpretiere ihn so, das eine Person versucht ihren eigenen Weg in einer gnadenlosen Welt zu gehen und eigentlich die Hilfe oder Anerkennung einer anderen Person sucht. Sehr schön finde ich das Ende des Refrains: Sag mir eines Tages – Ich bin ich. Irgendwann wirst du die Wahrheit wissen. Und das die Person scheinbar nur jemand sucht der sie akzeptiert, wird für mich in der letzten Strophe noch mal deutlich: Benachbarte Herzen, der Moment des Flackerns. Bring es zu ende und krabbel aus der Einsamkeit.

Kakusei seyo – Diese Stelle schwirrt mir immer noch lange im Kopf rum, nachdem ich den nächsten Song – Opticulture- gehört habe. Kakusei seyo bedeutet so viel wie, wach auf, oder aufwachen. Und wach wird man hier bestimmt. Wie vom Album gewohnt beglückt man uns mit schönen Riffs, tollem Rhythmus, Streichern und ein hämmerndes Schlagzeug im Refrain. Neu sind gelegentliche Dubstep-Elemente in den Strophen.

Der Text bleibt dem Album treu. Sich dem Abgrund der Verzweiflung stellen, die Zukunft – wach auf. Breche die anhaltende Stille und stärke dein Herz. Wenn du an Erinnerungen festhältst, breche sie und wach auf. Das Licht welches in mir wohnt – derjenige an den ich glaube, ist hier.

Falls jetzt jemanden von den Texten langsam schläfrig wird – kakusei seyo.

Wobei, das nächste Lied, Audio City, könnte da keine große Hilfe sein. Ich würde es als eine rockige Ballade bezeichnen. Alles ist ruhiger im Vergleich zum restlichen Album und auch der Gesang ist leichter und weicher.

Auf den Text will ich hier gar nicht groß eingehen. Im Grunde verfolgen sie Erinnerungen in verschiedenen Formen und immer wieder stellt sie die Frage "Was willst du denn noch?"

Beyond the Sonicwall ist wieder ein schöner, treibender Powermetal Song. Schöner Gitarrenteppich in den Strophen gepaart mit einer galoppierenden Bassdrum vom Schlagzeug. Dazu ein Keyboard – perfekt.

Der Text wirkt hier allerdings recht düster. Ich hielt mich für Tod. Selbst wenn ich lebe, ich kann nicht helfen. In meinen Augen sah es wie die Hölle aus, die unbestreitbare Realität. Hinter der Schallmauer, entscheide dich, und löse die Probleme die sich dort verbergen. Dahinter wird bereits von Verzweiflung ausgegangen.

Damit sind wir beim letzten Song des Albums angekommen – Veracila. Was für ein schönes Ende. Angefangen mit leichtem Gesang, begleitet vom Keyboard und Streichern, dreht der Song dann auf und lässt die Gitarre singen.

Während Koiwai von einem Verlust und Hoffnungslosigkeit singt, schrammeln die Gitarren einen kraftvollen Rhythmus und ein leichter Chor setzt ein. Und der Text... Ja... wie gesagt handelt er offenbar von dem Verlust einer Person. Vom Hände halten träumend, fallende Tropfen. Ich bin mir sicher. du holst mich raus. Ein unerfülltes versprechen im Herzen. Mit einem alten Ring auf ein Wunder hoffen ist es das einzige Licht das mir bleibt. Dieses Gefühl das nicht so weit reicht wie ich es mir Wünsche. Hol mich jetzt raus, hinter die Wolken, die diesen Vogelkäfig verbergen.

Damit entlassen uns Dual Alter World aus ihrem Debütalbum Alter Ego.

Fazit: Ich mag es sehr. Die Storytitel bräuchte ich nicht, aber ich verstehe sie ja leider auch nicht. Musikalisch ist allerdings alles nach meinem Geschmack und Koiwais Stimme höre ich auch gerne, egal ob kraftvoll, eher niedlich, oder mit Screams.

Kaqriyoterror

Kommen wir zur zweiten Band in dieser Folge: Kaqriyoterror. Und hier an Infos zu kommen ist gar nicht so leicht, denn viele Seiten sind veraltet und Artikel stammen am besten vom frühen letzten Jahr. Selbst die offizielle Website gibt nicht groß was her. Aktuelle Mitglieder waren da nicht zu finde. Aber hey, es gibt eine Adresse und Anleitung um sich als Mitglied zu bewerben.

Aber eh ich euch mit Aufzählungen von Dingen langweile, die ich nicht gefunden habe, schauen wir doch mal WAS ich finden konnte.

Im Juli... oder August 2017 wurde Kaqriyoterror Architect gegründet. Die Gründungsmitglieder waren Nonamera und Kotetsu. Nonamera ging im Januar 2019, trat im April 22 der Gruppe wieder bei und soll wohl im April diesen Jahre wieder gehen. Kotetsu verließ Ende 2018 die Gruppe. Vorher gab es aber auch Zuwachs. Yamakomaro kam im August 17 dazu, ging im Mai 19, kam im Januar 21 wieder und wurde wohl im April 22 gekündigt. Im Juli 2018 traten Sumomo und Sentonami Damaru bei. Sumomo blieb bis Dezember letzten Jahres und Sentonami nur bis Januar 21. Keine Sorge, wir haben es fast geschafft. Komari Yuu ist seit Ende 2018 und bis heute Teil der Gruppe. DKI war von August 19 bis Januar 21 Mitglied und gemeinsam mit ihr fing Noa Rond an, welche, wie Nonamera, im April dieses Jahres die Gruppe verlassen wird. Als letztes kam Arlya im April 22 und wird nach einem Jahr ebenfalls im April dieses Jahres aufhören.

Im Juni 2019 hat sich die Gruppe übrigens zu Kaqriyoterror umbenannt gehabt.

Und viel mehr hab ich für euch auch nicht. Am besten schaut ihr selbst mal auf jpop.fandom nach den einzelnen Mitgliedern, denn teilweise waren diese auch in anderen Gruppen aktiv, allerdings unter ständig wechselnden Künstlernamen, die ich euch nicht auch noch antun möchte.

Die Gruppe hat insgesamt 4 Alben, 1 Minialbum und 9 Singles veröffentlicht. Und das letzte Album Ensemble Berserk schauen wir uns jetzt an.

Ensemble Berserk

Ensemble Berserk erschien am 27.07.2022 und ist wie erwähnt das neueste Album. Vielleicht auch leider das erst mal letzte, wenn 3 von 4 Mitgliedern nächsten Monat gehen. Die Mitglieder die hier zu hören sind, sind Arlya, Komari Yuu, Nonamera und NOA ROND.

Und wir starten gleich mit einem richtigen Banger welcher auch ein Musikvideo bekommen hat: Pity Pantomime. Treibendes Schlagzeug, Metalcore Gitarren und süße Stimmen gepaart mit guten Screams.

Eine Warnung an die Videozu...hörer? Im Video kommen starke, schnelle Lichtwechsel vor. Also lieber nicht hinsehen wenn ihr anfällig seit.

Mein Wunsch ist Schwindel und Synchronität

Konzentrieren wir uns bei Kaqriyoterror also lieber nur auf die Musik. Und die ist auch beim zweiten Song Namens 24/7 top. Der Metal wird ganz leicht zurückgefahren, dafür bekommt das Keyboard mehr Strom und darf fast nervtötend rumpiepsen. Außerdem wird in den Strophen eher gesprochen als Gesungen.

Dafür setzt der Refrain fast schon himmlisch klingend ein, was mich, zumindest vom Gesang her, leicht an Asobi Seksu erinnert. Deren Album Citrus ist klasse. Habe es häufig zum einschlafen gehört und selten bis zum 4.Song geschafft weil es so schön beruhigend war. Räuspern Mal sehen wie das bei Kaquriyo klingt.

Was wir bei Kaquriyo auch sehen können ist, was passiert wenn sie den Metal ganz vergessen und stattdessen lieber zu Drum n Base mit Rap wechseln. Denn dann kommt dabei der Song Decadence heraus.

Das zieht sich so auch den ganzen knapp 2 Minuten langen Song so. Nur zum Schluss ist nochmal Platz für eine schöne Melodie vom Bass. Und scheinbar hatte sich nach dem Song wieder reichlich Metal angesammelt, sodass er nun in Titel Nummer 4, Nyo raus gelassen werden muss.

Und damit man davon nicht zu sehr überfordert wird gibt es einen süßen Poprefrain.

Puh, da wir uns jetzt ordentlich ausgetobt haben, brauchen wir etwas entspannteres. Sagen wir mal, Indie Rock. Und wenn wir schon dabei sind, Two door cinema club, denn an die Jungs muss ich bei den Gitarren, oder allgemein beim nächsten Lied Full time dive denken. Dieser Titel ist auch der zweite und bisher letzte des Albums, welcher ein Musikvideo bekommen hat. In diesem sehen wir wie die Mädels auf einem europäisch anmutenden Schlossgelände herumalbern, entdecken und tanzen.

Kein Metal, aber dennoch einer meiner Lieblingssongs des Albums. Auch wegen dem komischen Refrain mit den übertrieben süßen Hintergrundgesang. Ach ja. Ein paar Screams gibt es trotzdem.

Mit Who are U bleiben wir beim Indi Rock Feeling. Ein ebenso guter Song wie der vorherige. Und während bei Dual Alter World Chaos Effect mein Ohrwurmsong war, so ist es bei Kaqriyoterror dieser hier. Der Bass geht ins Blut, die Gitarre lässt einen sanft schweben, dazu diese süßen Stimmen in der Bridge und der tolle Refrain.

Mit MAD verabschieden wir uns vom Indie Rock und gehen in die elektronische Richtung. Es ist eine Mischung aus EDM und Trap.

So erinnert mich der Song auch sehr an Kyou You Mu des Duos BPM15Q, welches mit Ichigo Rinahamu wohl eine der kariesverursachensden Stimmen besitzt.

Und auch bei Trigger Atq begegnen wir einer Trap. Der Song fängt ruhig an. Ein paar Trommeln, ein schönes Klavier... Bis der Bass einem erbarmungslos in die Fresse schlägt. Ist das jetzt schon Drum N Bass?

Die Bridge entschleunigt wieder alles und entlässt uns sanft in einen Refrain, in dem der Bass sich schön unterstützend unter das Klavier legt. Und danach kommt auch sofort Drum N Bass zurück, nur hat er seinen aufgedrehten Freund Mr. Synthy im Gepäck

Nur noch 3 Songs Leute. Und Not killed, hätte mich fast gekillt. Und zwar dabei eine Beschreibung zu finden. Lässt das Intro noch einen Rocksong vermuten, werden wir danach mit Metalriffs weggefegt, um dann in eine Poprock Strophe einzutauchen.

Natürlich kommt vor dem Refrain noch ein Wechsel zum Trap. Der Refrain bringt uns allerdings wieder zum Intro zurück und ist schön rockig. Doch nach einer kleinen Bridge werden wir scheinbar in einen Drogentrip fallen gelassen und mit einem coolen Rock/Electro Rap-Einsatz wieder aufgeweckt. -kakusei seyo- ähem

An dieser Stelle möchte ich anmerken: Genau dafür mag ich diese Musik und japanische Gruppen. Es gibt so viele interessante Genremixes die ich bei westlichen Bands eher selten erlebe. Gut, dieses ganze hin und her gespringe in einem Song ist auch nicht jedermanns Geschmack.

Der vorletzte Song heißt Craving und wieder einheitlicher. Ihr bekommt Gitarrenunterstützten Drum N Bass und eine ruhige Bridge, die in einen leichten Rockrefrain mündet.

Vom Metalcore kommst, zum Metalcore sollst du zurückkehren. Das letzte Lied bringt nicht nur brutale Gitarren zurück, sondern auch einen Zungenbrecher. Denn es hört auf den Namen "hate de hamukinaru gekijou". Neben den Gitarren bekommen wir auch noch einmal Screams auf unsere Ohren gedrückt und Poppigen Gesang im Refrain.

Zu guter Letzt kommt etwas Partystimmung auf, wenn Bass und DJ es noch einmal krachen lassen.

Und damit verabschieden wir uns von Kaqriyoterror und dem Album Ensemble Berserk. Wenn ihr also Rock, Metal und EDM mögt, bzw. auf Mischungen dieser Genres steht, dann seid ihr hier sicher gut aufgehoben.

Somit geht nun die erste Folge von Whats new Panda zu Ende und ich hoffe sehr das es euch gefallen hat, informativ war und ihr vielleicht 1 oder gar 2 neue Bands für euch entdecken konntet. Schade das wir so schlecht auf die Texte eingehen konnten, gerade bei Kaqriyoterror, aber so ist das leider wenn man die Sprache nicht beherrscht und bei wahrscheinlich eh schon kreativen Texten auf Übersetzer angewiesen ist.

Da wir natürlich noch keine Fragen haben, gibt es dieses Mal auch kein Q&A. In kommenden Folgen werde ich aber gerne welche beantworten, solltet ihr welche haben. Auch freue ich mich auf Empfehlungen eurerseits. Wann diese dann dran kommen, kann ich euch aber nicht sagen. Genau so wenig, wann die nächste Folge erscheint und ob es zu einem regelmäßigen Rhythmus kommen wird. Zur Zeit bin ich jedenfalls sehr Motiviert und habe viel Spaß dabei. An dieser Folge saß ich geschätzt 15-20 Stunden, im Vergleich zu den 5 Stunden für die Testfolge mit 4 Bands. Und das Script sind nicht nur eine halbe Seite Stichpunkte, sondern 9 Seiten ausgeschriebener Text. Unter de Folge findet ihr auch die Quellenangabe mit Seiten von denen ich meine Infos habe.
